Short Film Review: ‘Creswick’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 5th, 2017

Audrey E., here….

Step aside, Los Angeles. Austin is quickly becoming the new city of stars. From SXSW to the Austin City Limits, and just this past month, the annual Fantastic Fest (the nation’s most diverse film festival), the city is bursting with art! This year there was a plethora of strange and unusual films waiting to make their mark, and I’m here to tell you about two that might be short in length, but tall with impact!

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

M. Night Shyamalan was the next greatest filmmaker in the world. With films like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs – the talented filmmaker was set to be the next Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, Hitchcock, and Gilliam combined into one person. It was working for him. Then, Shyamalan went on a “bender” and made a ton of shitty films, but I do believe this was a case of Hollywood taking control and not letting him do anything creative.

Two Dramas Vie For HBO’s Sunday Night Lineup!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 7th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

willferrell-645x370

HBO is looking to switch up their Sunday nights from the iron grip ‘Game of Thrones‘ currently holds on the network. The powers that be have realized that heavy, serial drama is what their customers love so they’re checking out a few new sources to come in to play as the world of Westeros could be wrapping up. Among the projects in contention for the coveted Sunday night slots are ‘Succession‘ and ‘Mogadishu, Minnesota‘.

Jason Bateman is a genius no matter which side of the camera he’s working, his latest project he will produce is ‘Game Night‘. The studio backing the picture, New Line, has picked up a pair of writers that are nothing short of the comedy gold standard, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. In addition to successes separately, the pair is the powerhouse responsible for the script for 2015’s ‘Vacation‘.

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 22nd, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

81wBzBcSclL

The Big Short‘ comes from director Adam McKay, and if you’re familiar with his films and Will Ferrell, you know the two go hand in hand. ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy‘ and the sequel, ‘Step Brothers‘, ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby‘ and more, this project takes a departure from the funny and drops hip-deep into the dramatic.

WWE: O’ What a Night of Champions 2015!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

185_NOC_09202015jg_0915-3399209481

Formally called Vengeance, ‘Night of Champions‘ quickly became a popular PPV in the WWE universe ever since it debuted back in 2001 where The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, and Chris ‘Y2J’ Jericho battled each other over the course of a few matches with Jericho winning in the end, becoming the first Undisputed champion. This year, Night Of Champions took place in Houston, Texas and had some spectacular moments. In fact, one of the matches had me yelling out praises throughout. We will get to that match in a minute. In other segments though, things fell a little short, mostly dealing with Sting, who definitely didn’t deserve to be in the main event with current champ Seth Rollins, and who didn’t deserve to have his image and likeness on all the promo art. Don’t get me wrong, I like Sting. He’s a damn fine wrestler. Or shall I say, he WAS a damn fine wrestler back long ago, but not so much anymore. There is far too much talent in the back locker room to give Sting a shot at the championship. First off, Sting doesn’t show up to almost anything, but a couple time a year, whereas everyone else are having matches day in and day out in the WWE. And it just doesn’t make sense to have a guy like Sting who is barely there, more than twice Seth Rollins’ age, and not involved in any long story line to make this match believable, let alone anyone thing for a second that Sting could win the WWE title belt. But first, let’s start at the beginning.

Film Review: ‘Two Days One Night’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 22nd, 2015

Paul N., Here…

two-days-one-night-cannes-2014-5

The phrase “train wreck” is tossed around a lot. People love to watch train wrecks in their many forms. This might explain the onslaught of reality television shows that permeate the airwaves. However, these shows are often short lived as people slowly learn the sad truth. The Hollywood version of a train wreck is a fun roller coaster ride with many ups and downs, often resulting in a happy ending. A realistic train wreck, however, is as disturbing to watch as one might expect. Directors who attempt to go down this path must navigate that precarious line to not delve too deep in that grim realism, and instead . Two Days, One Night is certainly not a train wreck of a movie, however, it suffers from a pretty blatant identity crisis due to its shallow glimpse into much deeper ideas.

Brad Pitt has found another Michael Lewis bestseller he hopes will be just as big a hit as ‘Moneyball‘ was. ‘The Big Short‘ is a non-fiction book about the build-up of the housing and credit bubble during the 2000s. It spent 28 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list.

For the inaugural event of Wizard World’s Comic Con in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the guests were in abundance. I was extremely excited to sit in on a panel Q&A by Robert Englund. Before Englund took the stage, the audience got a special teaser for his newest film, ‘Fear Clinic‘. The film which doesn’t open until February of 2015 can be seen earlier if you are fortunate enough to be able to attend NYC HorrorFest where ‘Fear Clinic‘ will be the official opener.

Hi, MDP Here…

Dean-Ambrose

On a night that was supposed to be all about WWE’s championships, and on a night where he wasn’t even scheduled to appear, the takeaway from Night of Champions is that Dean Ambrose is the coolest. Ambrose had been off for a month after Seth Rollins and Corporate Kane took him out on an episode of Monday Night Raw. Rollins was scheduled to face Roman Reigns on Sunday, but Reigns underwent emergency surgery over the weekend and will be out for several months. While Rollins was gloating in the ring after demanding that the ref declare him the winner via forfeit, Ambrose arrived (via taxi cab; what timing!) and attacked Rollins.

Short Snap Film Review: ‘Skeleton Twins’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2014

Hillary T., Here…

skeleton-twins-article

Tonight’s screening was the Skeleton Twins, starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader as a dysfunctional brother-sister duo (who are also twins) and estranged. You would think such a film would be riddled with problems and cliches, and yet this movie has nothing but brilliance and so much unspoken pain and joy that you have to watch.
