Fantastic Fest 2018 First Wave of Motion Pictures Announced!
Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.
The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.
Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

Hey guys, Jana here,
Universal Pictures is rebooting their monster movie franchise and the first tent pole to be staked is ‘The Mummy‘ debuting on June 9, 2017. We see the first crossover as Rusell Crowe’s Dr. Henry Jekyll is very visible in this film, or at least in the trailer. The cast includes Sofia Boutella, Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Chasty Ballesteros, and Courtney B. Vance.

Third Trailer for the new “Monsters” Film
I cannot express how excited I am for this film. If you do not know anything about it then read below:
“Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life form began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”…… Our story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.”
It seems that Magnolia pictures will release this On Demand at the end of the month then in New York and Los Angeles in late October.

US – 4K UHD Review!
The horror genre is something sacred and entertaining. It can be whatever you’d like it to be from something of a masked killer on the loose slashing their way through unsuspecting teenage victims to a literal hell unleashing in space to something much more quiet and unnerving like family being torn apart by a demonic entity and everything in between. Jordan Peele has crafted his own horror universe and elements and is 2/2 (so far) in drilling the nail into that horror membrane with precision and accuracy. His latest film simply titled ‘US‘ is much more than a straight out horror film, but something that makes us think about our past, present and ultimate future with each other. I’m happy to say that ‘US‘ is a true masterpiece in horror.

Justifying the Female Villain: An Essay by Tuesday Shank!
Justifying the Female Villain

I stumbled through my college career. After the better part of six years, I began my work on my senior thesis. I undertook the easiest thesis I could think for myself to do: analyze a television show. My advisor’s academic expertise was gender studies. As a fan of Joss Whedon, I knew of Joss Whedon’s reputation for feminist characters and decided to use my thesis to sing Whedon’s praises.
Thus, I began my work on “Careful Jayne, You’ll Scare the Women: An Analysis of Gender Representations in the Television Show, Firefly”. I watched Firefly enough that I’m still not eager to see it again. Halfway through the semester, I just wanted to watch anything else.
4K UHD Reivew: Kong: Skull Island!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
THE FILM
We’ve seen a ton of versions of ‘King Kong‘ over the decades from the 1933 version to the Jeff Bridges version in the 1970s, and even more recently, the 2005 version that was directed by ‘Lord of the Rings‘ director Peter Jackson. ‘King Kong‘ has been a staple in entertainment and pop culture since he debuted in the early 30s and he is showing no signs of stopping, thanks to Warner Bros.and Legendary Pictures who are taking their cues from Marvel and creating their own universe called the ‘MonsterVerse‘.
The New ‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer is Here!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
There is a brand new ‘Wonder Woman‘ trailer, starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman with Patty Jenkins directing. Jenkins directed ‘Monster‘ a while ago and hasn’t done too much since then. The trailer looks good for sure, but we’ve been misled before by DC Comics on numerous films. So I’ll say, I definitely have low low hopes for this being any good, but I hope for the opposite. The film comes out on June 2nd, 2017.
