Hey guys, Jana here,

image-credit-marvel

Is there anything Michael Keaton can’t do?! The answer to that question is “No”. Ok, he couldn’t exactly carry and birth a pack of puppies (without surgical help), but I’d like to think even Keaton could overcome that one if he wanted it bad enough. One thing he’s not done with is being super. As the first Batman I fell in love with he’ll always be the bat to me, but it looks like he’s ready to move to the villainous side of the comic book coin, he’s signed on to appear as Vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Michael Keaton

If there’s one thing the film world needs, it’s more spy movies! How about adapting Vince Flynn’s 14-best-selling novel series, ‘American Assassin‘? OK, so I didn’t think of it first, CBS Films and Lionsgate did because that’s the next film coming down the action pipeline. Not only that, but they’ve just brought in an A-lister that was part of not one, but two films that won the Best Film category for an Oscar for the last two years – Michael Keaton.

Michael Keaton in ‘Birdman’ Is AWESOME!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 12th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

image001_(4)

Michael Keaton is one of the best actors of the last century and was completely robbed of an Oscar for his role as ‘Beetlejuice‘. He’s proved countless times that his talent knows no bounds. His new film is called ‘Birdman‘ and looks all sorts of awesome. In the film, Keaton plays an actor who is famous for playing a superhero. He is now trying to book a gig on Broadway. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego as this superhero to get back his sanity, career, and family.

Film Review: ‘American Assassin’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 15th, 2017

Dan M. here…

You can’t make an action movie like this in 2017 and expect anyone to be impressed with it. Not when studios crank out Bourne, Bond, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, The Raid, etc. Those are movies that execute things at such a high level with passable stories that at least allow you to buy into the character. Hell, even Jack Reacher had some self-awareness to it that made the shrug-worthy, ridiculous, sequel mildly enjoyable. American Assassin is an all-around pretty bad movie but it does have a few bright spots. It honestly felt like the writers watched a Bourne movie, then got high, and played 3 hours of Call of Duty on easy difficulty before putting pen to paper.

Hey guys, Jana here,

There’s some casting movement on the Disney, live-action ‘Dumbo‘ front. Tim Burton has been putting together a retelling of the elephant story for some time now and has a few actors already on the payroll for the project. Those include Eva Green (‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children‘), Danny DeVito (‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘) and Colin Farrell (‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them‘).

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2017

HI everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-03-28 at 11.48.23 AM

All the cookies should be given to Sony, because they have finally learned to share ‘Spider-Man‘ with Marvel Studios. We saw the actor Tom Holland in the Spidey-suit in ‘Captain America: Civil War‘, and was probably the best Spider-Man we’ve seen thus far, but I imagine we will see about 1245 more versions of this character over the next couple of years. Hell, we still need Spider-Man to go into Darkness or something like that.

Film Review: ‘The Founder’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 20th, 2017

Beka P., here….

the-founder-movie-2016-trailer-michael-keaton

As a lawyer, one of the first things they teach you is to always put things in writing. As a criminal lawyer, one of the first things I tell people is never put things in writing. ‘The Founder‘ is a lesson in contracts and how as Roy Kroc says, “Contracts are like hearts, they were made to be broken.” This film explores the story of how McDonalds became more than just a local burger joint- exploding onto the map as a nationwide franchise. Quite honestly, it was darker than I expected, and cast a bit of a cloud on the French fried potato goodness that is Micky D’s, but I suppose that when you pull back the curtain and expose the inner workings of any organization, you are bound to find a few skeletons in the closet.

Bryan’s Best and Worst of 2014 List!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Wright_39_s_Top_10_Films_of_2014

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2014 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2014 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2014 with some added categories down at the bottom. I believe this year I watched over 145 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some chocolate snacks covered in marshmallow cream, I finally had a TOP 10. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

If you have managed to survive this long without knowing who or what ‘Minions‘ are, you lead a sad life and I pity you. This could also mean you have no children in your life and you, yourself are not a fan of animated kiddie fare. Either way, I want to ask “Why are you reading this?” Don’t go anywhere, I’m glad you’re here. This is something I’m excited to share with you. Minions are fantastically hilarious little denizens that have existed since the beginning and their sole purpose is to serve the most ambitious villains they can find.

Film Review: ‘Birdman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

and-the-oscar-goes-to-could-birdman-be-the-first-superhero-movie-nominated-for-best-picture

It’s a very rare occurrence where a film changes the game on almost every aspect of filmmaking. From acting to camerawork, ‘Birdman‘ literally soars above the rest where fierce emotions of erratic actors are put on display in a chaotic yet darkly comedic setting inside the St. James Theatre on West 44th Street in Manhattan. Not only do these actors turn in Oscar-worthy performances of the highest order, but director Alejandro G. Inarritu (Amores Perros) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki have given us an image so fresh and that pushes the bounds, that this is one of the most pleasing films of the year, visually speaking and unlike anything you might have seen before. Lubezki has worked with Alfonso Cauron on ‘Children of Men‘ and the recent film ‘Gravity‘.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

batman25th

Since we are all still celebrating the 75th anniversary of our favorite hero ‘Batman‘, Warner Bros. has just announced that they will be releasing a special edition of 1989 ‘Batman‘ film that starred Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as The Joker. It will be called ‘Batman 25th Anniversary Two-Disc Edition, and will be on Blu-ray starting November 11th (2 days after my birthday – hint, hint). The new packaging is pretty cool as well and will fit nicely in for those of you who add this to your collection. But the big news is that this set also includes a new film called ‘Batman: The Birth of the Modern Blockbuster‘, which is a look at how the marketing and merchandising for this film set the stage for the rest of the superhero films to present day.

The Top 10 Perfectly Cast Movie Roles!!

Top Ten Perfectly Cast Roles

The Bard of Avon said it best, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” Some actors are great, and shine in everything they do (Leonardo DiCaprio, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day-Lewis). Some actors are smart enough to pick roles that best use their limited skill sets (Keanu Reeves). This list takes a look at the perfect pairing of actor and role. In this list, you will find a pairing of actor and role so great that the actor ceases to be themselves and instead makes the character take on a life of its own. These pairings are so uniquely theirs that you can’t imagine anyone else taking their place should Hollywood have the audacity to try.

Film Review: ‘Need For Speed’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

need-for-speed-first-look-06102013-201607

I was trying to think of a movie that was based on a video game that was truly amazing. I couldn’t do it. I went through all of them, and while I enjoyed some of the attempts, nothing really stood out as being unforgettable or even that great. Sure, you have your ‘Resident Evil‘ movies and your ‘Tomb Raider‘ films, but ultimately those are still forgettable and don’t hold up all that well, although they have made a killing at the box office.

Every now and then, somebody gets the bright idea to take a video game and turn it into a movie.  Nine times out of ten (and that’s being generous), it is a horrid experience.  But sometimes, when the stars are aligned correctly, a video game movie can actually be awesome.  THIS IS THAT TIME.

Harold Ramis: 1944-2014!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 24th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

Harold Ramis

This just sucks beyond belief. Actor/Writer/Director/Producer Harold Ramis passed away this morning at his home in Chicago. He is most known for playing Dr. Egon Spangler in the ‘Ghostbusters‘, meaning he was an actual Ghostbuster. He was 69. He started off at Second City and got his big break as a co-writer of the famous 1978 film ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House‘. He also wrote ‘Meatballs‘, which starred his friend Bill Murray.

Film Review: ‘Robocop’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 11th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joel Kinnaman

Over the past year, I’ve been writing stories on the upcoming ‘Robocop‘ remake. As I found out more and more information about this reboot of the franchise, I was becoming less and less excited about it. It might of been the fact that it was getting a PG-13 rating, the change in the suit, or many of the other differences that were popping up from the original 1987 film that starred Peter Weller. Hell, even Weller himself said he was not looking forward to the remake and even compared his 1987 film to the likes of ‘Casablanca‘, which is hilarious.

Here’s The New Trailer for The ‘Robocop’ Remake!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 7th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

 RoboCop+remake

I just checked out the new Robocop trailer. “Why is America so Robo-phobic?” is the phrase I plan on working into every conversation I have for the foreseeable future. This phrase is uttered by the badly rugged Samuel L. Jackson. So far in the 2:26 minute long trailer we see some awesome CG effects which stands to reason if you’re watching a movie about a cyborg policeman, or any movie made in 2013. Long gone are the days of non-computerized special effects.

 beetlejuice

When you think of the collected works of Tim Burton, certain projects stand out. If you ask my daughter, she’ll point out Alice in Wonderland, my son will give props to, his favorite, The Nightmare Before Christmas. If you ask me, I’ll mention the Batman movies, Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice. There has been a lot of talk about Burton, Michael Keaton and Beetlejuice lately. In particular, whether or not Burton would like to film a sequel. He is already a producer of the proposed movie with David Geffen. I don’t blame Warner Brothers for giving this one to Burton to consider. How could you make a trip back to the universe of Beetlejuice without his directing? It would be like eating steak with plastic wrapped around your tongue…all of the fill of food, but none of the flavor. Come to think about it, that’s kind of like sex with a condom, too!

Hi, Bryan Here….

Good news for your Tarantino fans out there.  Actually, I don’t know whether to be happy or angry about this.  Lionsgate and Miramax are releasing a big Tarantino movie set on bluray on November 20th.  It will contain 8 films and two bonus discs.  This kind of sucks, because I imagine most of us already own all of these on bluray already individually.  Now we have to purchase all of these again.  And, why are the ‘Kill Bill’ films not in one film like we have been promised for years now.  I will admit, the artwork is cool from MondoTees, but I can’t justify purchasing this, for two extra bonus discs.  These look to be the same blurays that we already have.  And why did they not wait till next year to release this, so they could include ‘Django Unchained’?    Official press release below.

Bryan Reviews Toy Story 3 in 3D!!! (A 3D Blu-ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 16th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Dare I say Toy Stoy 3 is my favorite of the three Toy Story films?  Yes, I dare say it.  Pixar has given me so much over the years in the ways of great and original stories, characters, laughs, and tears.  Upon hearing that Pixar would be making yet a third film, I was excited yet a little weary on a third sequel.  Track records show the third sequels of many films have been terrible.  I was just hoping this would not befall Pixar’s flawless track record.  Well let me just say, that Toy Story made me laugh out loud several times, shed a few tears, and talk about how great the film was for weeks.  Not to mention that the 3D in Toy Story 3 is top notch.  This is the best the 3D has looked out of any of the Pixar films.  This is a must own film and must have for any 3D lover.  Toy Story 3 rocks!!
