Hey guys, Jana here,

benghazi_victims_for_site

There are directors that you want telling the heart-wrenchingly true stories based on fact. Spielberg was unflinchingly loyal to history when he made ‘Schindler’s List‘ and ‘Saving Private Ryan‘. Mel Gibson brought the history of William Wallace to life as he led the Scots in revolt against England in ‘Braveheart‘. Ridley Scott dove into the horrific tale of ‘Blackhawk Down‘ and pulled no punches with the details. ‘Act of Valor‘, ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘ and ‘Lone Survivor’ are all cut from the same cloth as the previously mentioned films. The memory and honor of the dead lives on through these fact-based projects. One name you won’t see at the top of my wish list to direct a piece like these is Michael Bay.

Hi, Bryan Here…

tmnt-godzilla-noah-gotg-interstellar-the-best-upcoming-movies-august-8-2014

Well we finally have a trailer for the new ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ film, which Michael Bay is producing with Jonathan Liebesman  directing. Plot synopsis: The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan. This doesn’t look great, but one can hope, right? Enjoy the trailer.

Hi, Bryan Here….

So, Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes studios will be producing the new live action TMNT film that will come out on Christmas of 2013.  Michael Bay feels the need to change the origin story and make the turtles aliens from another planet.  I mean, the origin story is pretty clear of the turtles.  A chemically engineered ooze spilled over the turtles and they transformed into what they are.  Splinter (the rat who was covered in the ooze as well) taught the turtles karate and they grew up to be crime fighters and eat pizza.

You know what’s awful?  Writing two stories back to back about Michael Bay.  But I guess, he is unstoppable right now.  In addition to the 4th ‘Transformers’ film, Michael Bay will be directing ‘Pain and Gain’.  Yeah you read that right.  What a shitty title.  The film will star Marky Mark of the Funky Bunch and the People’s Champ, Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

At least Bay won’t be directing the film.  But this is as cool of news as you will ever get.  The comic book, “Zombies VS Robots” has been picked up by Michael Bay’s company, Platinum Dines and Sony Pictures to adapt into a feature film according to Deadline.  Buy the comics HERE.

A Retrospective Look Back at the year 2007 in Movies!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 20th, 2017

Written by: Dan Moran

It has been a decade since we have had an overwhelmingly great year of movies. There have been some ‘great movies’ for sure, that have been released since 2007, but a collective year of dominance like 2007 hasn’t been experienced in 10 years. We have to start with the films that people still talk about today from 2007. No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, & Zodiac. I mean what a Top 3 for one calendar year!  The closest we got to this was in 2015 when the Top 3 was, Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max: Fury Road, & Mad Max: Fury Road.

Exploding onto our screens without regard for the narrative or progressive plot structure, comes Transformers: The Last Knight.  True Michael Bay lovers could care less or would even notice the story’s lack of cohesion with this sequel.  They are there for the cool special effects, radical cinematography, and rich hues that make up Michael Bay’s style.

Film Review: Baby Driver!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

baby-driver-image-3

Finally, Edgar Wright has made a musical in the most Edgar Wright way. The film is called Baby Driver and is the most fun I’ve had at the movies all year long. When Wright makes a movie, you shut-up, listen, watch, and have a cold pint, because you’re in for a fun-as-hell thrill ride. With his highly impressive resume of films, including Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, and Scott Pilgrim vs The World, you quickly know that Wright is one of the coolest, best, and most fun filmmakers alive today.

Amazon is in the CIA business, well the business of running a TV series based on a CIA hero – Jack Ryan. The streamer ordered 10 episodes  straight-to-series for the drama that will star John Krasinski as Ryan. The project comes from Carlton Cuse, writer Graham Roland, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount TV. Three scripts have been submitted by Cuse and Roland which likely helped with the straight-to-series order, not as much as snagging Krasinski for the lead though.

Film Review: ‘TMNT2: Out of the Shadows’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 1st, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

maxresdefault

Coming off the last outing with these four lovable and iconic green characters, I wasn’t so sure about how much I was going to enjoy this sequel, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows‘ or TMNT2 for short. The last film, which was a remake had a shoddy director and filmmaker Michael Bay at the helm. Needless to say, it was all about explosions and a sexy woman walking around with almost no attention to the turtles themselves. There were about ten whole seconds of the last film that I actually enjoyed, which was the fun scene in the elevator where we saw Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo beatboxing like kids, and when the doors opened, they put their ninja faces on to fight Shredder. That scene really showed what these new Turtles could actually be. So I hoped I would at least get twenty seconds this time around.

The ‘Transformers‘ franchise has been at a low point for me over the last few films, maybe it was the director, maybe it was the story line, regardless of the reason, the next film in the tunnel has some news that is a little more exciting. Director Michael Bay is returning for the fifth installment with Josh Duhamel.

Film Review: ‘Zoolander 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 10th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

zoolander

It’s been fifteen years since we saw Derek Zoolander perform on stage in the world of male fashion modeling. That first film, directed by Ben Stiller himself was a brilliant and hilarious satire on the fashion modeling world with a little bit of action and silliness packed in at every corner. ‘Zoolander‘ and many of its characters became instant cult icons. Even many lines of dialogue are still quoted today in everyday life from the first film. Stiller himself has said he’s wanted to do a sequel for the past several years now, but nothing has come together, but one script made it through and everyone signed back on for ‘Zoolander 2‘.

Following on the tails of the Ride Along, Ride Along 2 comes rollin’ in.  Ben Barber (Kevin Hart) is finally a cop, straight out of the academy, and still seeking James Payton’s (Ice Cube) respect.  Especially, since Ben is about to marry James’ sister, Angela.  The buddy comedy continues, but lacks luster.  Kevin Hart has his usual diarrhea mouth, but in this film, someone added 20 lbs. of ex-lax to his condition.  Normally 8 out of 10 times, this endless train of ramblings can make your side split.  However, in Ride Along 2 his batting average drops.

As Americans there are moments that made time stand still for our country. The attacks on September 11, 2001 crippled our spirits with the biggest sucker punch in history, and the attack on the American diplomatic compound and the nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya on the 11th anniversary of that horrid event, ripped that scar wide open. Some may see a film based on the events of that fateful night as a crass money-maker, I see the film as a remembrance and a warning to the future to never let this happen again.

Top 10 Horribly Cheesy Scenes in Otherwise Decent Movies!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2015

I am not claiming that all of the following movies are cinematic works of art. Some of these films might be considered mediocre at best. However, they do all have one thing in common; all of them suffer from having that one scene that takes audiences out of the moment and makes them groan in disbelief.  This list includes movies that were meant to be taken seriously. So over-the-top comedies and machismo action flicks will not be found as they are created with the intent of being ridiculous.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

If the topic came up of two particular California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers, there has to be one name that comes to mind, right? ‘CHiPs‘ is indeed what we’re talking about in this article. I can remember something specific about most movies I see. I remember being in high school when the first ‘Bad Boys‘ film came out. The biggest thing that sticks out in my mind though, is how freaking HOT Will Smith looked when he was running down the road and his shirt flew open and showed off his chest and abs, which looked marvelous! This is what stays in my mind when I hear the movie name. My kids are even aware that I have a favorite scene in the movie and which scene it is, and even why, much to their chagrin.

Sequel to TMNT Announced!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey everyone, Jana here,

Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtletop

I get so sad for the future of American film some days. This film is a perfect case-in-point. First off, we had to know that once Michael Bay got his hands on the film rights to one of my childhood favorites, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘, that regular rules of paying respect, homage, or even a gentle nod to their beginnings as a comic book was a long shot. I think the first warning of potential trouble had to come when we saw Bay was involved. Most people would think well, he’s just a producer and not going to direct and be such a vital part of the final product. Those people would be wrong.

Top 10 List of Reboots We Don’t Want To See!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2014

Paul N., Here…

Terminator-5-TV-Series

Like Bill Murray once said, “he’s got to be stopped. And I have to stop him.” You might have thought he was talking about a weather-predicting rodent, but no, he was actually talking about studio executives (the “he” is collective). Hollywood, like any business, is in it to make money. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they choose to rehash tried and true film formulas over and over again rather than take a chance on something new. While this is understandable (albeit infuriating), it doesn’t excuse the idea that EVERYTHING deserves to be re-made. Some films, like priceless art, should never be re-made and re-sold. Every time a classic film gets re-made, audiences hold their collective breaths and hope that it won’t be a straight shot in “the feels” (that nostalgic part of your brain that remembers, with fondness, all your pop culture favorites).

Michael “explosion” Bay is releasing his latest bastardization of 80’s culture unto the world in the shape of the beloved “heroes in a half shell”. In case you haven’t been following, this has been one cluster mess after another. From alien origins to white-washed villains, this movie begs the questions: “does Michael Bay hate the 80’s? Did he have some traumatically horrific experience with toys when he was a kid? Why does he have to take a giant dump on our collective fond memories time after time?”  Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

TMNT-2014-Desktop-Wallpaper-HD1

It has been 21 years since we’ve had a ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ live action movie in theaters. In 2007, there was a CG animated ‘TMNT‘ film, which was actually quite good. And of course there have been the comic and two different animated series. And now we have a complete reboot of the entire franchise in live action form from Jonathan Libesman (the guy who directed ‘Wrath of the Titans‘ and ‘Battle Los Angeles‘). You can add to that so-called talent the worst filmmaker to ever come out of Hollywood, Michael Bay (‘Armageddon‘) as a hands on producer. The sad thing about this reboot is that it has tons of potential to be a great film. A really great film. But everything went wrong everywhere with the movie, and poor decisions were made, and now we have a steaming pile of shit for a film that could have run with the best of the Marvel Comic book films.

I’m not sure why there was an idiotic woman behind me, applauding and yelling “Woooo”, every time an autobot was on screen, but it happened throughout Michael Bay’s fourth installment of his ‘Transformers‘ franchise. Let me assure you, there is absolutely NOTHING to applaud or cheer for in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘. If you weren’t sure if Michael Bay couldn’t get any worse as a filmmaker, think again. He outdoes himself here and tries to throw all of his tricks into one bag, leaving us with a film that can only be described as ‘shit with big explosions’.

So here is the fourth film of ‘The Transformers‘ franchise from Michael Bay, who has basically rebooted his own series. And yes, Steven Spielberg is still producing to make a few extra bucks. But don’t count on Shia LaBeouf running around screaming in this one. Instead, you’ll have Mark Wahlberg (who was in Bay’s ‘Pain and Gain‘) trying to save the day. Hopefully there is a scene of him rapping and dancing.  Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, T.J. Miller and Ken Watanabe also star. You can expect a lot of explosions and chaos, but not much else. ‘Friday the 13th’ Is Getting Remade Again!!

Hello, Jana here,

Friday-the-13th-2009-horror-movies-23926925-1600-1200

Hollywood has a lot of tricks up its collective sleeve.  Yet for all these tricks, they go back to the same wells time and time again. It’s annoying and it’s sad. To use a phrase from ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ by Elton John “Maybe you’ll get a replacement, There’s plenty like me to be Found”.  This is what every new release means to another new release. For every completely original offering from film makers, we receive a hundred re-makes of movies that were good, some that were crap, some ideas that were both crap and should have died in the original. This film announcement is putting it all together.

Hi, Bryan Here…

HEAVEN-IS-FOR-REAL-04

I expected ‘Heaven is for Real‘ to be bad, but I didn’t expect it to be as bad as it was. Writer/Director Randall Wallace who gained fame for writing ‘Braveheart‘ over twenty years ago who moved on to direct such films as ‘The Man in the Iron Mask‘, ‘We Were Soldiers‘, ‘Secretariat‘, and now ‘Heaven is For Real‘. It seems like his glory days from ‘Braveheart‘ are long over, because this religious movie plays out like the cheesiest made-for-tv LifeTime movie that should only appeal to a small group of people. But as times have told, these religious-centered films tend to draw people in. But don’t expect a very realistic and bloody movie like ‘Passion of the Christ‘ or the recent ‘Noah‘.

The only thing you need to know  about ‘The Raid 2: Berandal‘ is that you need to run to the nearest theater that’s playing ‘The Raid 2: Berandal‘ and watch it. This is the sequel to 2011’s ‘The Raid: Redemption‘ by Gareth Evans, and is even better than its first literal non-stop hardcore action movie from only a few years ago. This time around, we have a 2.5 hour film full of some of the best action sequences and fight choreography ever put on film. In addition to that, we have one hell of story to go with it, which was mostly lacking from the first film, which I’m not complaining about at all.

Have movie makers gone SO dry of original ideas that they continue to re-make perfectly good movies that aren’t even that old, yet? I take these re-makes personally since most of them are from the 80’s, which means I grew up on the films they destroy with a re-birth. Was Patrick Swayze really one of those actors that was so horrible, none of his work is safe from a re-make? Let us keep in mind that Swayze is now a verb, not just a noun. It takes an epic actor to make that kind of difference.  Not only did they have to annihilate the Red Dawn I grew up with, there are still projects  in the works that will destroy Dirty Dancing, Point Break and Ghost! I can  add to that list of Swayze comfort movies that seem destined for destruction, Road House. It’s the sad truth.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 29th, 2013

Wade D., Here…

 robot_monster

I love bad movies.  That is an extremely oversimplified, yet usual response I give to people when discussing film and cinema in conversation.  It is true though, but if you want to have a conversation about what I love we are really going to need to discuss it much further.  I think the best place to start is really defining what a “bad” movie is.  When I am referring to a bad movie, I am talking about those movies that are usually made with the best of intentions, but due to a lack of knowledge, talent, abilities, etc. they usually fall short of their intentions.  Sometimes these movies are mishandled from the very beginning; sometimes they are well done but just too bizarre to hit the mark.

Fernando Reviews ‘White House Down’ and Loves It!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2013

Fernando Here….

jamie-foxx-channing-tatum-white-house-down

God bless you, Roland Emmerich.  It looks like you finally read my last review where I asked you to please stop caring about any sort of plot in movies and just focus on action.  Emmerich brings us “White House Down,” a movie about a world where Jamie Foxx plays Barack Obama…I mean, “President Sawyer,” who signs legislation to bring peace to the middle east, and then is targeted by white supremacist domestic terrorists in an effort to start a nuclear world war 3……does this sound crazy?  HELL YEAH IT DOES!!!

Film Review: ‘Pain & Gain’ !!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 25th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

pain-and-gain-poster-final

Michael Bay made a film for $25 million over the past year. This is a budget that he hasn’t had since  his first film ‘Bad Boys‘ in 1995. Between then and now, he has epic $100 million dollar budgets and is known for his horrible filmmaking and amazing explosions and car chases. The $25 million movie in question is called ‘Pain & Gain‘ and is a true story as it tells us on screen, which is very difficult to believe while watching what happens during its two hour run time.

Megan Fox Joins ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 21st, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

yellow-dress-megan-fox_large

This is way out of left field. The last time we talked about Megan Fox and Michael Bay, it certainly wasn’t good.  Fox compared Bay to Hitler and both were fairly angry at each other.  But I guess by gones are by gones and Fox wants to be in big movies again. So Bay just announced on his blog that Megan Fox will indeed star in the reboot of TMNT, which will be a live action reboot.

Film Review: ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

a-good-day-to-die-hard-official-trailer-3-movie

We’re back for another installment of the action packed ‘Die Hard‘ series, the fifth chapter in the series that has spanned twenty-five years. We’ve followed John McClane to the top of a skyscraper, 50,000 feet in the air on a jumbo jet, a cat and mouse chase around a metropolitan area, and even cyber terrorism. Prior to the screening, I even thought “Haven’t we already said all we need to say with this John McClane character?” Needless to say, ten minutes into the film, I found myself grinning ear to ear and holding on to both armrests ready for a highly entertaining thrill ride. ‘A Good Day to Die Hard‘ might lack in story structure, but completely makes it all up with its intense action sequences and two solid performances by Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney.

Mark Wahlberg Confirms The Sequel to ‘Ted’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Ted_Movie_Photo_08

While Mark Wahlberg was on Anderson Cooper’s show today, promoting ‘Broken City‘, somebody asked if there was going to be a sequel to ‘Ted‘, which is Wahlberg’s biggest grossing movie to date, and is one of the top grossing ‘R’ rated films out there, if not the number 1 spot.  Well, he confirmed it, saying it’s a done deal and that Seth MacFarlane is already working on script for the sequel.

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Grand Theft Auto 5’ just keeps looking better and better.  Man, I can’t wait till Spring of 2013 for this to release.  The first trailer for the video game was great, but this new one takes it to a whole new level.  This new trailer shows us that there are 3 main characters we will be playing as during the game, Michael, a family man who lives in the post Vinewood hills; Franklin, a professional automotive repo man; and Trevor, who appears to be a complete and total psychopath. Players will have to utilize each character’s strengths and abilities to execute intricate heists.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Taken 2’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Of course they would make a sequel to ‘Taken’.  The film made over $226 million dollars with a budget $200 million smaller than its gross.  Did they need to make a sequel?  No, they didn’t.  But, since the weird popularity of Liam Neeson as of recently, it was inevitable that the studio make a sequel.  Neeson has sort of taken on the persona that Chuck Norris or Nic Cage has of the past few years.  Meaning that now, Neeson is one true ultimate badass, that fights aliens, robots, kills every bad guy everywhere in the world, and is a jedi.  ‘Taken 2’ takes all of this power, and pretty much forces it into one film. As my friend said, “No, ‘Taken 2’ is not good, but on a Nic Cage scale, it’s a 9.  And I have to agree with that.

Bryan’s Review of ‘The Possession’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

Finally, the Catholics aren’t the only group getting into the demon possession genre.  There is a Judaic version now.  ‘The Possession’ is basically ‘The Exorcist’, but much worse and instead of priests, there are rabbis.  The demon is known as a dybbuk and resides in a wooden box.  ‘The Possession’ is partly based on a true story, but what horror movie isn’t these days.  With the help of Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi producing this little flick, I was hoping this would be truly terrifying.  Instead, I received a dull film with a couple of creepy moments that I forgot about as soon as I got home.  If I learned anything from ‘The Possession’, it’s “Never buy an old mysterious box at a yard sale.”

The Top 26 Film Vehicles!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Have you ever wanted to own a specific car from a film or television series?  I have compiled a list of my favorite vehicles from films and television series that I want to own someday.  Now, I am excluding spaceships, because that is a whole different list.  This particular list of vehicles all stay on the ground.  It was fun coming up with this list, and I imagine some of you out there actually own these cars or are working on restoring one.  Or just maybe it will give you an idea to make one of these in real life.  Enjoy.

Paramount Pictures has decided to indefintely shut down the planned reboot of that Ninja Turtles film we reported about a few months ago.  The film was supposed to be released around Christmas in 2013.  Looks like that won’t be happening anytime soon.  This is the film that Michael Bay was producing and that he wanted to make the Turtles from outer-space.

Hi, Bryan Here….

How many Transformers films, tv shows, spinoffs have there been?  Too many to count.  Nothing will ever compare to the original series and film in my opinion.  Sure, some people say the originals were full of cheese, like the ones today, but I disagree.  I have gone back and watched the original series on my DVD volumes and in my well respected opinion, that they still hold up today as they did back in the 80’s.  Especially the film.  This all CG animated series ‘Prime’ at first had me thinking I would hate it just as much as the Michael Bay films, but to my surprise, it wasn’t all that bad.  I actually thought a lot of the series was pretty kick ass.

FedMex Reviews ‘Act of Valor’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 23rd, 2012

FedMex Here….

‘Act of Valor’ is advertised as a war movie unlike any other, a movie that creates an unprecedented realism due to the fact that it stars real Navy Seals.  Unfortunately, although it did create some awesome battle sequences which were probably some of the most realistic and tactically accurate battle sequences in a military film, it completely lacked the sense of realism that it hoped to showcase.

Jonathan Liebesman (Battle L.A./Wrath of the Titans) is set to direct a reboot in live action form of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ for Paramount. I’m seriously, people in Hollywood fail upwards.  Liebesman started with ‘Darkness Falls’ then went on to ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning’, then to ‘Battle L.A., and then onto the upcoming sequel to ‘Clash of the Titans’.  How does someone like that get more work?

‘CAPTAIN AMERICA’ REVIEW

Don’t get me wrong, the movie was good.  We have the origin story of Steve Rogers, the kind hearted wimpy kid that would do anything to fight for his country.  Rogers is an idealistic, wholesome idea of the values of America, truth, justice, and the American way…wait, that was reserved for another comic franchise.

“Voltage Pictures and Wildwood Enterprises have cast Shia LaBeouf and Robert Redford in the political action thriller, ‘The Company You Keep’.”  This movie sounds like ‘Sweet Smell of Success’ crossed with ‘The Manchurian Candidate’.  I have been hearing Redford has many projects in the works, but I haven’t heard of any in a while that have actually started production.  That is until this film.  And I like Shia.  He was excellent in ‘Disturbia’ and he is fun to watch on screen.  That being said, I’m happy to see him get away from the Michael Bay disasters and do something more in this vein.  Read the entire press release below.

Now you know I am not a fan of Michael Bay nor am I a fan of his version of the Transformers.  I however do love the 80’s cartoon movie of the Transformers.  The last two Transformers films have stunk.  The only thing I liked out of both films was the scene Bernie Mac was in.  That’s it.  And the last Transformers film was a joke.  How did that even get made?  How did studio execs allow that?  Well, sources close to production say this third film will be badass and that everyone on set including Bay knows especially that last film was shit.  SO who knows.  I still think it will be a turd.  Hopefully I will be surprised.  My hopes aren’t high.

Top 133 Films of the Last Decade (#133 – #120)

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

Earlier in the year, I made my list of favorite and best films to come out between the years 2000 and 2010.  A ten year span of great films.  Films that I completely forgot about.  Films you may have not even heard of.

So I came up with 133 films which was narrowed down from about 300 or more.  Below is the start of the list which has the film title, the date it was released, and my brief personal memory and review of the film.  Plus the link to purchase the movie for a cheap price.

It was a great time coming up with this list.  It was also fairly difficult once I got down to the last 20 or so because they are in fact in order from great to the absolute best of the year.

So over the next few days I will be posting more titles as we get to the #1 spot.

I hope you enjoy and feel free to comment.

133_ Wet Hot American Summer – July 27, 2001

How could this movie not be on a favorite list?  Especially a list of top films of a decade.  This film is balls out hilarious, but in that silly way.  It takes place in the 80’s at a summer camp on the last day of camp.  Directed by David Wain from Stella, Role Models, and The Ten, with an all-star comedic cast including Janeane Garofalo, Paul Rudd, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler, and Michael Ian Black, amongst others.  There are plenty of quotable lines and tons of gut-busting laughs.

132_ The Bridge – October 27, 2006

This is a very haunting documentary that I remember having many conversations

with people after viewings.  Two filmmakers set out to make a documentary film on the Golden Gate Bridge on its history and beauty.  As they were filming the bridge, the filmmakers noticed people committing suicide by jumping off the bridge quite often.  This documentary is about those suicides and interviews with  the vicitims families and friends.  You will actually see people talking on the phone – hang up – then jump to their death.  It is unforgettable.

131_ Bandits – October 12, 2001

I loved this film with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thorton who stole the show.  These two characters are criminals in jail who break out of prison and go on a bank robbing spree.  It is very heart felt and load of hilarity.  Not any of it seems forced.  Actually, the two bank robbers are the good guys.  Great film that I feel that was missed by a lot of people.  Check it out.

130_ JCVD – June 4, 2008

JCVD as in Jean-Claude Van Damme.  This film is brilliant.  It is fiction mixed in with documentary.  Very strange but oh so good.  This is NO action flick.  AT ALL.  JCVD plays himself in real life.  He is coming to terms that he is just a B movie actor that fights.  His personal life is in shambles and he has no money and his wife is trying to get custody of his kid in the bitter divorce battle.  Add to that while he is getting a wire transfer of money in his home town at the post office, criminals hold everyone hostage and want money and tell the press and officers outside that JCVD is the culprit.  This film is very emotional and very well acted.  Yes.  Very well acted.  I really hope to see what this director does next.  Truly excellent film.

129_ Kung Fu Hustle – April 8, 2005

From the makes of Shaolin Soccer comes King Fu Hustle with Stephen Chow.  This movie is all sorts of fun.  A Kung Fu film that does not take itself seriously and packs high end special effects and lots of laughs.  Typical evil vs good film.  I love these types of films and will always hold a place in my heart for Stephen Chow.

128_ Death To Smoochy – March 29, 2002

I’m a sucker for dark comedies.  This is one of the best.  I great cast of Edward Norton and Robin Williams who play kid tv show personalities who are bitter rivals.  This shows what the seedy underbelly of kids shows are really about.  Such great black humor and very well directed by Danny Devito.  Loved it.

127_ Ginger Snaps – May 11, 2001

A kick ass different take on werewolf movies that involve high school sisters.  Extremely gory and violent with a dark wit that takes you on a great journey on what it is like to transform into a werewolf in high school.  Sexy Werewolves equal AWESOME!

126_ Remember the Titans – September 29, 2000

I remember seeing this film and becoming very emotional while watching it.  Based on a true story in the south about a black high school football coach overcoming racism in the 60’s as he leads his interracial football team to win the championship undefeated.  The soundtrack to this film is top notch and a great performance from Denzel Washington.  One great heart felt Disney Film.

125_ Team America: World Police – October 15, 2004

From the creators of South Park comes a Jerry Bruckhemier/Michael Bay marionette production of a group US citizens who fight the war on terror.  Very crude and lewd and hilarious.  Oh the sex scene is worth the price of admission alone.  America….Fuck Yeah!

124_ Knocked Up – June 1, 2007

The sophomore effort from Judd Apatow is a great film about a stoner schmuck who scores a one night stand with a hot tv personality who becomes pregnant.  Apatow mixes great feeling and emotion with tons of dick jokes.  A perfect combination that makes a successful story and film. The deleted scene with Jonah Hill and Katherine Hiegel discussing Brokeback Mountain is one of the greatest discussions EVER!

123_ The Simpsons Movie – July 27, 2007

Finally!  Fifteen years in the making.  This had everything that I wanted in a Simpsons movie.  Good morals, great story, and lots of laughs and inside jokes made this brilliant movie a masterpiece.  Matt Groening made America’s favorite family a joy to watch all these years and the movie was NOT  a let down.  Keep up the good work.

122_ Chocolate – February 6, 2008

An awesome Thai film about a girl with emotional problems to the ppoint where she is almost non-sociable with anyone.  She has a great fondness for Chocolate and once she sees some Thai Fightin on tv courtesy of Tony Jaa, she learns to fight by watching it and then goes after bad guys in the neighborhood.  A film that has no stunt wires or special effects, but stuntmen who take real hits and fall hard.  A real treat in filmmaking.

121_ School of Rock – October 3, 2003

A perfect combination of Jack Black being Jack Black while Jack Black teaches kids about music and playing rock music.  This movie could have failed in so many places, but I was surprised on every corner.  This film plays very well to all audiences.  If you love music and comedy than this is a film you have to see.  Very well done.

120_ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – November 16, 2001

The first film in the whole series created a whole new world to everyone and in filmmaking.  Great filmmaking and acting as well as speical effects made this children’s book come to life and was great for the whole family.

Alien Invasion Film “Skyline” Gets a 2nd Trailer

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

It has been a while since we got a flashy Alien Invasion movie.  I can remember Spielberg’s remake of “War of the Worlds” and 1994’s Independence Day being the typical goto movies if you wanted to watch aliens come to earth and destroy us humans.

Skyline looks no different.  It stars Donald Faison (Scrubs) and Eric Belfour (Six Feet Under) as in the lead roles as aliens try to kill all of us.

I think I saw a transformer and the creature from Cloverfield in this trailer.

All in all, I hope this is a good time.  I do not expect greatness, but hopefully it won’t be to Michael Bay-ish.

Below is the 2nd trailer for the film.  What do you think?

It’s about time they did this, because Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street already have box sets. Glad to see ‘Halloween‘ is catching up with everyone else. Now if we can just get that ‘Phantasm‘ box set to release in the US instead of the UK, all will be well. And today, they have unveiled the amazing Box Art it comes in. This is Fantastic. I Can’t wait. And you can pre-order the set now for 30% off.

Kim L. Here….

 FRUITVALE

The first word that comes to my mind about this movie is… Heart.  Based on a true story of Oscar Grant, the 22 year old that was murdered by a police officer in the early hours of New Year’s Day in 2009 at the Fruitvale BART Station in the Bay Area of California, the story follows Oscar, played by Michael B. Jordan (Friday Night Lights) on the last day of his life and shows the ups and downs he faced as a young man and father trying to do the right thing.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Pawn’

by Gumbercules9000 on May 6th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

514a6YGGy1P

I had a lot of fun with ‘Pawn’. This is one of those instances where you are perusing movies online or at your local video rental place where you come across a film you’ve never heard of, but see tons of A-list actors on the front cover. And when we decide to purchase or rent based only on the cover, we usually have a 50/50 shot of really enjoying the flick. Most of the time, these particular films have a low budget and suffer from a wide range of problems. Sometimes the budget is too small to create a decent story and locations, and other times it’s bad filming. With ‘Pawn’, everything tends to work here and is a fun film that deserved a bigger audience.
