Film Review #2: ‘Logan’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 3rd, 2017

Dan M., here….

thumbnail_25047

Even when the dust settles and recency bias fades, I can’t imagine LOGAN not being considered one of the greatest superhero films of all time. For me, LOGAN is in the same class as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 1-2, Iron Man, Reeve’s Superman, Burton’s Batman, etc. I believe all of those comic films work as films and stories first, comic fun second. There are plenty of “fun” comic movies I thoroughly enjoy and love but I wouldn’t classify them as well-crafted films. LOGAN is a great story and character arc first and comic fun second. It just works on every level.

Film Review: ‘LOGAN’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-02-17 at 11.10.34 AM

For decades now, we have been clamoring for a ‘Wolverine‘ film done right. From his first incarnation in Hulk #181 to his own miniseries in comic book form in the 1980’s by Frank Miller, to the amazing Saturday Morning Cartoon, and his first appearance in a feature film in 2000 with ‘X-Men‘, which had the song and dance man Hugh Jackman play the iconic character. He was so good at playing Logan/Wolverine, that fans immediately took a liking to him as that character and he went on to play the ‘Snikt-y Snikt’ character in almost a dozen more films. Besides the ‘X-Men‘ films, Wolverine got his own set of standalone films, which may or may not have been liked by a lot of people for various reasons. Either the story was too silly or the character Wolverine was to PG for fans.

Director James Mangold (‘The Wolverine‘, ‘Walk The Line‘) has taken up the Wolverine mantle he’d set down when production wrapped on ‘The Wolverine‘ in 2013. He’s back to tell the final chapter of Wolverine’s story with ‘Logan‘. Back in the saddle is Hugh Jackman as the bladed mutant, Boyd Holbrook, Doris Morgado, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen also share the screen. Hey guys, Jana here,

be516842da1d14da2a423af6777fddf3

We’ve known for a long time that a third sequel to the X-Men solo movies about Wolverine was coming. We’d even gotten some pretty solid leads on the fact that the Old Man Logan storyline is going to be the base for that film. Now, we have another tidbit of info that can give us an idea of how the film is coming together.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Logans-run-book-covers

Logan’s Run‘ has been processing in the remake machine for quite some time with limited progress. Warner Bros. is trying to put it back on track by bringing in Ryan Condal (‘Colony‘, ‘Hercules‘) to write a new script. The film will not be a remake of the 1976 film, but rather a new take on the 1976 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson.

It’s finally been confirmed and the Old Man Logan storyline for the next Wolverine movie is a GO!!!  ‘Deadpool‘ has opened the doors for the powers that be to realize that an R-rated comic book movie is not a death sentence and Fox has green-lit an R-rated Wolverine 3!!!

Hey guys, Jana here,

I love ‘Gilmore Girls‘ news, and this bit is fantastic! Matt Czuchry, you know him as Logan Huntzberger has closed a deal that brings him back to Stars Hollow for the four-part revival of the series from Netflix. I loved Rory’s boyfriends, I’m more than a little partial to Jared Padalecki’s Dean, but Logan was another one I loved.

Hey guys, Jana here,

San Diego Comic-Con is all I’ve been talking about the last week, and with good reason! The epic trailers, the cast surprises, the tidbits of info that have been, previously, safely guarded. This week gives us a fantastic peek into the next year or two of film and gets us stoked for those release dates. One of the most exciting bits of information came from Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman. He gave us three words that sent fans everywhere into a frenzied sort of glee as to what ‘Wolverine 3‘ could entail, myself included, those words were “Old. Man. Logan.” Boom!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

Hi Bryan Here…

For years and years now, this film, Logan’s Run, has been tried and tried again to be remade but has failed on all levels.  Logan’s run celebrated its 30 anniversary back in 2006.  So far the film has an excellent actor in Ryan Gosling playing the role of Logan, and one hell of a director and writer.

The Perfection – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 22nd, 2019

“This film is exactly what its title indicates – The Perfection.”

It’s not an easy task to fool me in a film. I can usually tell where a story is headed by one aspect or another. That’s definitely not the case with Richard Shepard’s (Dom Hemingway) newest film The Perfection, which consistently had me thinking one way, but completely went the other direction. I loved every bloody minute of it and you will too with its beautiful camerawork, excellent performances, and incredible pacing and story.

Film Review: ‘Happy Death Day 2U’!!

by Janet White on Feb 12th, 2019

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Snoring, and probably some drooling, too, opens and continues the Happy Death Day series with Happy Death Day 2U.  Is it Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe), a troubled college student, doomed to repeat her birthday (death day) over and over?  No, it is Ryan Phan (Phi Vu), the stranded roommate of Carter Davis (Israel Broussard).  Ryan heads to his room where he meets Tree and Carter with the same awkward question, “Dude, did you hit that fine vagina or wha…?”  Read the rest of this entry »

‘Escape Room’ – Film Review!

by Janet White on Jan 4th, 2019

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Puzzles are amazing. They push you to think and not just any ole thinking. You have to see through, around, up and down, probably why I love being a critic. Anyway, locks slide and toggles click as the screen fades in from black. Escape Room opens with a chessboard followed by a pan around an overloaded study, foretelling much. The sounds did not match the image that appeared. I wanted to like Escape RoomRead the rest of this entry »

Interrogator:
I am instructed to inform you that you have been convicted by special tribunal and that unless you are ready to offer your cooperation you are to be executed. Do you understand what I'm telling you?
Evey Hammond:
Yes.
Interrogator:
Are you ready to cooperate?
Evey Hammond:
No.
Interrogator:
Very well. Escort Ms. Hammond back to her cell. Arrange a detail of six men and take her out behind the chemical shed and shoot her.
Guard:
It's time.
Evey Hammond:
I'm ready.
Guard:
Look all they want is one little piece of information, just give them something, anything.
Evey Hammond:
Thank you, but I'd rather die behind the chemical sheds.
Guard:
Then you have no fear any more. You're completely free.
