by Janet White on Sep 28th, 2018

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

When life hands you lemons, make lemon drops.

Night School opens with young, Teddy Walker (Kevin Hart) struggling to study for his GSAT test. Right off a cool special effect, test questions pop off the page and fly about the room, makes Teddy’s challenge tangible for the audience. Teddy’s father, Gerald, portrayed by the venerable Keith David is convinced that he is dumber than a box of rocks. Coddled by his mother, Carole (Donna Biscoe), Teddy wakes to a gym filled with anxiety. As the questions yet again fly off the page, a tantrum sets in, Teddy storms out spouting claims that he will have money, a beautiful woman, and a fly ride the age-old question looms. Can a person be successful without college? Fast-forward 17 years; Teddy has Lisa, a Porsche Carrera, killer apartment, etc. However, a fiery misjudgment will change his life. Hey guys, Jana here,

In the world of film, there are specific genres that stand out for me and one of those is war movies. I love different titles for a variety of reasons, the story, or even an actor, in this category there is one primary theme that ties each film together – heroes. Their outstanding courage is what gives us that lump in our throats and a swell of patriotic pride that causes us to lift these characters, real or imagined, to elevated heights. It takes a special kind of person to be a hero, I know I couldn’t do it, but I am eternally grateful for the men and women that take up that mantle and defend the lives and freedoms I hold so dearly.

“The D is silent.” In some excellent news, Quentin Tarantino is partnering up with Dynamite Entertainment and DC Entertainment to publish a comic book that pairs up Django and Zorro. Django has already been in the comic book realm when the film came out, but now he’s coming back. Tarantino himself will co-write the series with Reginald Hudlin and Matt Wagner and is scheduled to hit comic book shelves late this year. I’m excited to see where this leads, as all 3 collaborators are known for risky moves and thinking outside the box (no one more so than Tarantino). And both outlaws should be well represented by that kind of thinking.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I’m so excited for this release.  Finally, the ultimate edition blu-ray for John Carpenter’s ‘The Live’ starring Rowdy Roddy Piper will be released November 6th, 2012.  I was hoping they’d get this out before Halloween, but at least they are getting it out before the holiday season.  Tons of AWESOME extras come with this release.  I can wait.  No specs have been announced yet, but I will update everyone once those become available. That cover art is too cool.

Film Review: ‘Selma’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

se

It’s no doubt that Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential people in the world. He fought for basic human rights, received a Nobel Peace Prize, and not only changed a nation for good, but changed the world. This film is not necessarily a biopic on iconic man, but rather a glimpse on a short period of time that focuses on the 1965 voting marches from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama, that was to ensure that anyone, no matter your race, color, creed, or religion, could have the right to vote.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Tom Waits Brings The Goods On “Bad As Me”

by NapkinArt on Oct 24th, 2011

Tom Waits' "Bad As Me" LP.

For decades, Rock n’ Roll has been thought of as a young man’s trade; the energy to sustain its demands on the mind, body and soul is no match for the weary. As true as that idea my be, rockers like Tom Waits (now 61), who continues to play by his own rules and charming madness, again goes beyond the borders of his own conventionalism with his 17th studio album, “Bad As Me” now available for the taking.
