4K UHD Review: ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 22nd, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM

For all the comic book fans around the globe, we live in a great time of moviemaking. Over the past decade, we’ve seen Hollywood take the superhero genre by storm, releasing comic book movie after comic book movie with A-list stars, talented directors, and epic budgets to bring our childhood heroes to life on the big screen. This successful genre has even garnered many awards, as well as numerous television shows on almost every network. It shows no signs of slowing up. Marvel has paved the way for superhero franchises, building on each superhero character that culminated into the ‘Avengers‘ movies, showcasing each superhero across the other superhero movies, providing a big bridge to gather all stories together. It’s been an  excellent financial and critical success.

‘Friends’ Star All Grown Up And Directing Now!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 6th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

317767

Looks like everyone’s favorite, uptight, clean-freak, cooking ‘Friend(s)‘ is not going to be in front of the camera in her next venture, but Courteney Cox will be making her directorial debut. Starz jumped to the front of the line after seeing ‘Just Before I Go‘ at the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s a dark comedy to be sure, but who wants ‘The Brady Bunch‘ kind of nonsense anymore? Everything needs an edge. Some of my favorite shows are heavy with edge, like eyeliner on a goth chick. ‘Weeds‘, that’s not any type of a normal setup and it’s not all rainbows and unicorn farts. ‘Nurse Jackie‘, who doesn’t love a drug-addicted nurse?

Alexis Bledel, of ‘Gilmore Girls‘ fame, is set to star in Fox’s and new comedy, ‘Friends and Family‘ alongside Jason Ritter. You might remember Ritter from his roles on ‘Parenthood‘ and ‘The Event‘, along with him being the son of the late great John Ritter. The concept, taken from the UK series ‘Gavin & Stacey‘,  is for Gavin (Ritter) and Stacey (Bledel) to try to keep their relationship going with all the differences that hit it.

Film Review ‘Another Wolfcop’!!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 11th, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,I had the awesome pleasure of watching ‘Another Wolfcop‘. I have to preface this review by saying there are few things I love more in this world than movies, specifically the fantastic sub-genre of horror-comedy. Don’t ask me why, but that pair works together like pineapple on pizza. Yeah, I’m one of those people. While people far and wide dis the pineapple on pizza combo, it’s an unadulterated fact that the horror-comedy tag-team works like crazy in film. So read on to check out what you can expect from this sequel to ‘Wolfcop‘ from writer/director Lowell Dean.

‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 6th, 2019

“‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ is this year’s most remarkable movie.”

Two unlikely friends pair up for an adventure of a lifetime in ‘The Peanut Butter Falcon‘, (not to be confused with ‘The Peanut Butter Solution‘). With a modest helping of heart, soul, and comedy, along with some sprinkles of Mark Twain, ‘Stand By Me‘, and the best thing in the world – Pro-Wrestling, this film hits all of the right notes from start to finish and quickly became on my favorite movies.

‘Hobbs and Shaw’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 31st, 2019

“‘Hobbs and Shaw’ is a fun movie that deserves to be seen loud and with friends.”

I was watching the original Fast and Furious movie the other day and realized that film is now considered a drama with a car chase and a couple of gun blasts. I wouldn’t regard it is a big action movie anymore, which is odd to say. Over the past decade or more, these Fast and Furious movies have grown into mega-budget action blockbusters that tend to lean over how they can top the previous action sequence along with a couple of funny lines of dialogue. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy these movies on an over-the-top level where I can appreciate the insane spectacle on screen. It’s a fun break from the more serious stories I see. Now we have the first spinoff movie from that franchise called ‘Hobbs and Shaw‘, that stars the characters Luke Hobbs (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) from the Fast and Furious franchise.

Shazam! – 4K UHD/Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 29th, 2019

It’s easy to see that the executives at Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been listening to the fans in wanting funnier and more light-hearted superhero films after the super dark and very adult previous films. With ‘Aquaman‘, they literally threw in everything and the kitchen sink into that film to bring a wild, chaotic affair that was silly, yet fun in a “so bad it’s good” kind of way. There is much more of a balance with ‘Shazam!‘ and dare I say it in my most impressive imitation of WWE’s The Rock – “Finally! DC has made a fun movie!” I stand by that statement too as an odd choice in director David S. Sandberg (‘Lights Out‘ and ‘Annabelle: Creation‘) took his cues from Tom Hanks‘ 1980s film ‘Big‘ and made a large budget superhero movie out of it, set in the universe of The Justice League. Everyone in the film looks to be having a great time on screen with their respective characters and it transfers to smiles and laughs in its audience.

US – 4K UHD Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 23rd, 2019

The horror genre is something sacred and entertaining. It can be whatever you’d like it to be from something of a masked killer on the loose slashing their way through unsuspecting teenage victims to a literal hell unleashing in space to something much more quiet and unnerving like family being torn apart by a demonic entity and everything in between. Jordan Peele has crafted his own horror universe and elements and is 2/2 (so far) in drilling the nail into that horror membrane with precision and accuracy. His latest film simply titled ‘US‘ is much more than a straight out horror film, but something that makes us think about our past, present and ultimate future with each other. I’m happy to say that ‘US‘ is a true masterpiece in horror.

The Art of Self-Defense – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 18th, 2019

“The Art of Self-Defense earns its black belt in the annals of cinema.”

A shy, apprehensive man looks to make a major change to his life in Riley Stearns‘ second feature film ‘The Art of Self-Defense‘ that stars the fantastic Jesse Eisenberg. Part sadistic comedy and part thriller, Stearns and Eisenberg perfectly walk the line of awkwardness and confidence here. This is a film that deserves to be a big hit and seen by everyone, although I can’t help but think the masses won’t know what to do with this multiple genre story. In my eyes though, ‘The Art of Self-Defense‘ is a winner and I can’t remember seeing anything quite like it.

Midsommar – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2019

Perhaps one of the most sadistic and darkly funny relationship movies ever made is Ari Aster’s (Hereditary) second feature film titled Midsommar, which is sure to leave you in a state of shock as the credits roll. If Hereditary tackled the paranormal within a generational family of horror, then Midsommar takes you on a chaotic rollercoaster of a couple’s vacation overseas. This is nothing short of spectacular on every level and just like Aster’s previous film, there are many things to take notice in the background due to his explicit attention to detail and filmmaking. Ari definitely knocked it out of the park once again.
