It was just a matter of time before 1984’s ‘Splash‘ had it’s turn under the knife of plastic surgery and Disney has decided it’s time for a refresher. Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell will star in the project that launched Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah into the acting pool. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer of Imagine are back to produce.

Director Lucia Aniello (‘The Traveling Bong‘, ‘Broad City‘) lights up the big screen with Scarlett Johansson (‘The Avengers‘), Kate McKinnon (‘Saturday Night Live‘) and Zoë Kravitz (‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘) in a Hangover-ish flick about a bachelorette weekend. Well, a bachelorette party gone wrong since a male stripper ends up dead at a Miami beach house.

The Angry Birds Movie‘ made such a giant splash for Rovio Entertainment Ltd. that a sequel has been announced. This one is kind of a “Duh!” move, but I’m glad it’s officially in the works. Film Review: ’22 Jump Street’!!

The movie theater chains across America are plagued with sequels, reboots, and remakes these days. It seems like almost every film out there is either a sequel or a remake of an older film, leaving the original indie films left out to dry for the more independent theaters or video-on-demand. While you want these sequels and remakes to be just as good as the original or first film, most of them fall a little short, or are down right terrible. There are only a select few sequels that receive the praise and box office power that have audiences across the globe cheering its name. And I’m happy to report that ‘22 Jump Street‘ falls into that category, maybe even being towards the top of that list.

2013 SXSW Film Lineup Announced!!!

SXSW 2013 is coming up and we are very excited about it.  The lineup for the film portion of the festival has just been announced and Joss Whedon’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ will debut at the festival, as well as the remake of ‘The Evil Dead‘, ‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone‘, and ‘Spring Breakers‘. Plus much more.  Below is the full list of movies.  I can’t wait.  Who’s going?

The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books.  ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy.  Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’.  Can’t wait.  Below is the official press release.  Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Films announced include titles in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes. The announced films include 17 Galas and 45 Special Presentations, including 38 world premieres.
