Hey guys, Jana here,

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Startling ‘Southpaw’ Makeover

This year’s Oscar race was a tough one to call as there were so many deserving and absolutely fantastic movies that made the ballot and hundreds more that didn’t, the films coming out now are offering up performances just as stunning. One of the best examples of great acting comes from Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Southpaw‘.

Hey guys, Jana’s here,

Well there’s some good news and bad news abuzz in the movie world that affects the DC movie-verse. ‘Suicide Squad‘ casting was released a few months ago which brought reactions in all spectrums from fans that are rather passionate about who will embody our favorite characters. I know the reactions were mixed because I had some pretty mixed reactions, myself. Particularly with Tom Hardy being cast in the role of Squad leader Rick Flag, however this doesn’t have to be an issue any longer as Hardy has exited the project over scheduling issues.

Film Review: ‘Life’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 23rd, 2017

Audrey E., here….

Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 7.24.35 PM

Ah, the age old question: ‘Are we alone in the universe?’ In the film ‘Life,’ a diverse team of astronauts try to find a definitive answer to that query and volunteer for a daring mission to outer space. After successfully retrieving a sample from Mars, they discover a single cell organism amongst it, which could prove the existence of life outside the realm of our planet. The explorers immediately begin conducting scientific experiments on the fast developing extra-terrestrial; affectionately calling it Calvin. However, their fondness is soon erased when the creature suddenly demonstrates it’s not there to make friends, and the false sense of confidence it’s lured them into could cost them their lives.

Film Review: ‘Nocturnal Animals’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 23rd, 2016

Beka P., here…

nocturnal-animals

I was completely thrown off by Tom Ford’sNocturnal Animals‘. Aside from ‘The Lobster‘, this film is the most disturbing and disappointing one I’ve seen in quite some time. From the time the opening credits rolled, I was bothered and that feeling did not subside. I was literally relieved when the closing credits rolled and at the same time I had a feeling of, “was that it?” To say it was the most unsatisfying viewing I’ve had in quite some time is an understatement. What’s so terrible, you ask? Let’s start at the top.

Hey guys, Jana here,

donnie-darko-4k

Donnie Darko‘ is a 2001 film from Richard Kelly (‘The Box‘, ‘Domino‘) that boasts of a ridiculously star-studded cast and is one of the first films mentioned when putting together a list of cult-classics. It’s been released in what seems like a dozen different formats, but we’re looking at a 4K release now!

Film Review: ‘Demolition’!!

by Janet White on Apr 8th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Demolition - Davis During

Demolition, a comedic drama, begins with a man, Davis Mitchell (Jake Gyllenhaal), who loses his wife, Julia (Heather Lind), within the opening scenes. When I initially was given this assignment, I wondered, “How could a tragedy be made well into a comedy?” I will say that Jean-Marc Vallée held it together.   Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Everest’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

everest-movie-2015

Based on the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster where several climbers lost their lives, director Baltasar Kormákur (‘2 Guns‘) shows us what happened in those days that led up to that horrifying experience. I consider myself a little bit of a daredevil here and there. I love to bungee jump whenever I can, although I admit it’s been a while since I have, but I don’t think I have the guts to climb a mountain like Everest, which is the tallest mountain on the globe at almost 30,000 feet in the air. But year after year, people trek out there and climb it and succeed, where others don’t.

Film Review: ‘Southpaw’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 21st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

_1427472125

When it comes to the world of boxing, there have been many films and documentaries that have been released on the violent sport. Some of the movies have done so well both financially and critically, that they have taken home more than one Oscar, and dare I say it, this new boxing film, ‘Southpaw‘ is the best boxing movie since Sylvester Stallone put on boxing gloves in 1976 and put on one hell of a show against Carl Weathers in ‘Rocky‘. Despite its minor flaws, ‘Southpaw‘ is an amazing film from top to bottom. Director Antoine Fuqua (‘Training Day‘) has perfectly transformed Jake Gyllenhaal into a scary, muscular, bloodied monster of a fighter, who you would never want to step into the ring with.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Two great family film companies, Walden Media and Jim Henson Productions, are joining forces to produce, and develop an original story about a rather nasty subject, a pagan demon who punishes wicked children at Christmas. Did I mention he has horns and looks fifty shades of creepy? They’ve gone with the title ‘Happy Krampus!‘ so they’re going to make it a family-friendly project with a live-action production.

Bryan’s Best and Worst of 2014 List!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Wright_39_s_Top_10_Films_of_2014

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2014 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2014 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2014 with some added categories down at the bottom. I believe this year I watched over 145 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some chocolate snacks covered in marshmallow cream, I finally had a TOP 10. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

Janet’s Film Review: ‘Nightcrawler’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 30th, 2014

Janet W., Here…

nightcrawler-jake-gyllenhaal-riz-ahmed-600x399

Nightcrawler opens with the moonshining down on the city of angels, we see a thief, Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) in action.  He is cutting away chain-linked fence when a security guard spots him.  A bright light shines on the sunken face and wiry form of Bloom.  (According to IMDB, Jake Gyllenhaal lost 20 lbs. for the role.)  The rent-a-cop asks for ID, but Bloom repeatedly diverts his requests with distracting comments and questions.  Bloom is a fast-talker.  Cut to bargaining with a scrap metal yard foreman in an attempt to sell the copper wire and chain-linked fence Bloom had collected.  The foreman doesn’t waive on his offer and resolve, but Bloom rapidly counters like a string of firecrackers pushing for better pay.  The foreman refuses to give Bloom a penny more than his offer.  What does Bloom do in response to this let down?  He asks for a job.  As plainly as he can, the foreman assures Bloom that he would never hire a thief.  Scraping to make ends meet and living in squalor, Bloom is desperate for a fast track to success.

Film Review: ‘NightCrawler’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 29th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

K72A3451d.tif

It’s very rare to me when a film stays with me for weeks on end. It’s been more than a month and I still can’t stop thinking about Dan Gilroy’s directorial debut ‘Nightcrawler‘. It’s a smooth yet very suspenseful thriller about a friendless sociopath who decides one day he is going to start a career in freelance TV new reporting, where we see him succeed as well as go to the metaphorical “dark side”. This sociopath is played by the impressive Jake Gyllenhaal who (to put lightly) has major psychological issues. We’ve seen him play something similar before in ‘Enemy‘ and ‘Donnie Darko‘, but here, he’s on a whole different level. It’s easy for me to say that Jake Gyllenhaal plays the most frightening character in film in the last decade.

How'd you get out?

I had a new trial. Turns out that the evidence in the first trial was tainted.
Dr. Ben Sobel:
O, I see
Jelly:
Anyway, two of the witnesses decided not to testify and the third guy, well, he commited suicide.

How?
