Tarantino Tackles The Summer of the Manson Family!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 12th, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

Quentin Tarantino has decided that, after 2012’s ‘Django Unchained‘, he kinda likes working with Leonardo DiCaprio and enjoyed it so much that he’s signed the Oscar winner to his latest film. This makes number nine for Tarantino, and has been given an August 9, 2019 opening date under Sony.

Film Review: ‘American Sniper’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

thumbnail_19703

This production sure has had its ups and down. Actor Bradley Cooper was cast as real life Navy SEAL Chris Kyle who is one of the most decorated SEAL in US History with a confirmed 160 kills in the recent war as a sniper. He is responsible for saving many US soldier’s lives. Shortly after Cooper signed on to star, David O’Russell (‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ and ‘American Hustle‘) wanted to direct, which would have made sense, because Cooper and O’Russell worked together before. But he dropped out and and Steven Spielberg signed on to direct ‘American Sniper‘. But yet again, Spielberg dropped out, leaving this project in limbo.

Film Review: ‘Foxcatcher’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Foxcatcher

Director Bennett Miller has chosen his four films wisely. Starting with ‘The Cruise‘ back in 1998, Miller has only three more films on his resume, including ‘Foxcatcher‘. The previous two were ‘Capote‘ was an Oscar winner as well as ‘Moneyball‘. Miller has an uncanny knack for telling compelling stories that are based on real life events and engaging the audience to not only be entertained, but to think and discuss these characters and sometimes real people’s motives in what they did in their particular story. You can add to that, Miller’s success in getting his actors to win Oscars almost across the board, and this very dark and creepy film ‘Foxcatcher‘ is no different.

Amazon Announces 4 Pilots Green-lit for Series!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 13th, 2014

Hello Jana here,

 dt.common.streams.StreamServer

Amazon jumped head-first into original programming with 5 pilots that were uploaded to their site where they encouraged viewers to watch and comment their opinions. I’m guessing they got the reaction they wanted as they have now picked four of the titles to give a series order. This includes the first dramas for their fledgling, innovative line-up with ‘The After‘ and ‘Bosch‘. Their new comedy series are ‘Mozart In The Jungle‘ and ‘Transparent‘. The fifth pilot that was not picked up, ‘The Rebels‘ comes from Ice Cube and Michael Strahan. From Amazon’s first pilot season saw eight comedies going to pilot while only two were picked up for series, ‘Alpha House‘ and ‘Betas‘. Of those two, ‘Alpha House‘ has been renewed for a second season and ‘Betas‘ has been discontinued.

Bryan’s Review of Linklater’s ‘Bernie’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 4th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Richard Linklater’s film, Bernie, was inspired by an article in Texas Monthly Magazine by Skip Hollandsworth titled ‘Midnight in the Garden of East Texas’.  The article was an editorial about a murder committed in the small East Texas town of Carthage, Texas.  Hollandsworth’s editorial argued that the entire town supported the killer, rather than the victim.  Regardless of the fact that the killer confessed, the evidence proved his guilt, and a court sentenced him to life in prison, the entire town still believes he is innocent.  This real-life story translated into a hilarious dark comedy.

4K UHD Review: ‘Jigsaw’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 16th, 2018

THE FILM

Wait, what? He’s back? He’s really back with his infamous contraptions that kill people? Of course he’s back, even after a seven year hiatus, which was the last time we watched the Saw franchise on the big screen. Jigsaw marks the 8th film in the series since 2004 and with an eight film combined budget of $77 million, the box office gross of all eight films is a hair-line under $1 billion. So if you think there will be more Saw films with more Tobin Bell, the answer is a hard “yes”. The Spierig Bros. (Undead, Predestination, Daybreakers) are in the director chairs this time around as they put Jigsaw/John Cramer (Bell) in the center of the story.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

Good news, everyone. The entire ANTI- catalog of Tom Waits albums will be re-mastered and re-issued on vinyl, which will include a new remixed version of Real Gone. All of this will be available before the holiday season, which will make excellent gifts and stocking stuffers. Tom Waits is one of the coolest people on planet Earth and has released videos, songs, and movies that always evoke emotions, laughs, and fun. I just hope he’s working on a new album and will once again tour, because if you’ve never seen Tom Waits live in concert, you really haven’t lived yet. It looks like all releases will come with 2 LPs that are 180g each along with a digital download card as well, which is just amazing.

The world of pro-wrestling has been around for many years and has certainly seen its ups and downs, most noticeably being the WWE. There have been many promotions through the decades, which have made a lot of people very successful and it continues to this day. At some point down the road though, there was one company that surpassed everyone by leaps and bounds and brought the pro-wrestling arena into the mainstream. Of course I’m talking about World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), or the artist formally known as World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in its teenage angst years. For a long while, there were two major companies that featured the best of the best in the pro-wrestling world. WWE and WCW. They didn’t play well together at all on and off screen.

THE FILM

Back in 1988, an excellent creative team consisting of director Tom Holland, writer Don Mancini, producer David Kirschner, and visual effects wizard Kevin Yagher got together and made ‘Child’s Play‘ and psychological thriller turned horror film about a serial killer’s soul that is transferred into a kid’s toy doll and wreaks havoc on this family in Chicago. Nobody knew at the time, but this small little film would be an instant cult classic with rave reviews from audiences and critics alike for years to come. Not only that, but this film hatched numerous sequels and created one of the most famous horror icons in pop culture – Chucky.

Film Review: ‘The Legend of Tarzan’!!

by Janet White on Jun 30th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Tarzan - Brothers

Every woman loves the strong and silent type, yes? Well, I say only for a while. Women are more than their looks and I’d say the same in regards to men. Both sides have bad apples, but on the whole, our actions and words are as integral to who we are as our appearance. Yet in The Legend of Tarzan’s portrayal of Tarzan, silence dominates and makes this King of Beasts a robot, not just mute, but cold and detached for the majority of the film. They should have subtitled the film, “A Man of Few Words”, because The Legend of Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgård as Tarzan/Lord John Clayton was just that.

Daniel Craig and Showtime are teaming up for a new project based on the Jonathan Franzen novel, ‘Purity‘. From Showtime’s description:  Purity is a morally complex story of youthful idealism, extreme loyalty and cold-blooded murder. Franzen’s intricately plotted novel is populated by characters both hungry for the truth and desperate to hide it. From Stasi offspring to Oakland anarchists, Franzen tracks his characters’ landscapes as varied as East Berlin, the Bolivian jungle, East Harlem walk-ups, and the California Redwoods. Purity is at once supremely ambitious in scope and intensely intimate in its treatment of character – a decades-spanning tragicomedy that builds to a contemporary climax, even simpler, ‘Purity‘ is the journey of a girl who joins an activist group and begins a world-wide search for her father.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

shane-jump

As I’m recovering from seven insane days of ‘Wrestlemania 32‘ in Dallas, TX., I’ve had time to reflect, contemplate, saturate, and regurgitate every I event I attended. I had my box of Booty O’s to make sure I wasn’t Booty thru the weekend, met some good people, watched some amazing matches, talked with some WWE Superstars, and lost my voice when Shane-O-Mac put his life on the line for the WWE Business. To quote a certain former WWE announcer, it was a slobberknocker of a week for sure that hit me in the solar plexus more times than I’d like to admit. WWE really did it up big this year for Wrestlemania 32. Not only did they put on several good shows, but they also broke records. There was over 101,000 people in attendance at AT&T Stadium for Wrestlemania 32, beating the previous record from Wrestlemania 3 by quite a bit. Not only that, ticket sales and merch sales were way up as well from previous years. It seems like WWE is growing exponentially with more and more fans tuning in every week. That’s a good thing. Instead of writing a recap of the entire weekend, I’ll give you some details of some of the cooler things I witnessed over the past week.

Film Review: ‘Eddie The Eagle’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 25th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Screen Shot 2016-02-25 at 9.18.06 PM

Underdog stories are almost always fun. From ‘Miracle‘ to ‘Rocky‘ to even ‘Little Giants‘, these stories of regular people, who you normally wouldn’t pick for a sports team, prove that they have enough heart, guts, blood, and spirit to give it a real shot and make it to the top. Some of these films and television shows we’ve seen that have portrayed the ‘underdog’ scenario have been based on real people and real events, such as this one, ‘Eddie the Eagle‘. If you grew up during the 1980s, you might remember hearing about ‘Eddie the Eagle‘, who was a British Olympic ski jumper at the Calgary 1988 Olympics.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

pawn-sacrifice-DF_01541_R_rgb1.jpg

We’ve seen many stories, films, and television specials about Bobby Fischer, who has a reputation for being the greatest Chess player to ever walk the Earth. It’s also well documented on how Fischer fell into madness and became a recluse from his paranoia until his death in 2008. Fischer was for sure a strange and chaotic man, but he was also a genius and fairly charismatic when he wanted to be. Needless to say, Bobby Fischer’s life is as interesting as it is sad and is worth telling, which is why so many people have told it over the years.

In the midst of family and friend get-togethers, 37 pounds of BBQ spare ribs, ten gallons of creamy cool coleslaw, floating in a pool, and setting off fireworks, while listening to Neil Diamond’s ‘America’, I also like to enjoy “that one night game a year”, meaning I love to watch July 4th inspired films. I usually do a mini movie marathon of them with the usual food and beverages that go with each film. I’ve done this the past few years, with one year, taking a break to do an all John Carpenter/Kurt Russell marathon. That was a lot of fun. Groucho Marx Biopic In The Works From…Rob Zombie?!?!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 18th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

2013-01-29-RAISEDEYEBROWSNEW

One of the genre’s I adore in film is an excellent biographical depiction. It doesn’t matter who the subject is, I love the truthful way these films are usually made and like seeing the story unfold, event at a time. What struggles they’ve gone through to become who they are, it’s the intimate details that I genuinely crave. A successful biopic depends on the character and quality of its written source material as it’s vital to the core of a project. Such will be the case with the planned Groucho Marx flick.

If the news about recent shark attacks hasn’t scared you from the beaches already, let’s let Eli Roth (‘Hostel‘, ‘Cabin Fever‘) give it a try. That’s what Warner Bros. has to be telling itself after closing a deal with the multi-talented director to helm a story titled ‘Meg‘ that’s spent some time at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. Meg isn’t a coquettish girl, or the raving demon-bitch from ‘Supernatural‘ either, this Meg is an ancient threat to waterways as a 60 foot Megaladon tends to be.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

WWE: An Evening Spent Inside ‘Hell in a Cell’ 2014!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 27th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

The superstars were set. The lights and fireworks were bright and loud. And a giant sixteen-ton cage of steel was sharp, fierce, and ready for the carnage that was to take place inside. WWE’sHell in a Cell‘ 2014 (the sixth event of this caliber, but 30 matches total) was a force to be reckoned with. Blood was shed, title belts were on the line, chairs were slammed, tables were broken, and special appearances were made to a sold out crowd in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center. A famous Beatle put it simply, “The Long and Winding Road“, which is a great lyric that could be used to describe the past several months of WWE.

Fernando’s Review of ‘The Equalizer’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 25th, 2014

Fernando M., Here….

denzel-washington-the-equalizer

Antoine Fuqua is two men.  He is the director of the critically acclaimed “Training Day,” for starters.  He is also evidently also the man that saw “Taken” a bunch of times.  When you put those experiences together, you get “The Equalizer.” Showcasing Denzel Washington again reprising his role as Denzel Washington, a strong , smooth, moral protagonist that is going to do a bunch of stuff with guns, but somehow still manages to have a part in the script where he gets to dance.  Denzel plays Denzel quite well, so it’s hard to fault him for that.  In this case in particular, he plays action Denzel better than ever!

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Film Review: “Side Effects”

by Woozie on Feb 8th, 2013

Hi, Suzanne here,

Screen shot 2013-02-08 at 12.28.47 AM

In what he claims to be his final film, director Steven Soderbergh delivers a solid, suspenseful story that still delivers amusing moments. Side Effects ponders our society’s dependence on psychiatric medications but binds the plot in a story of homicide, blackmail, and intrigue. If it is his last film, the storyline, acting, and film stand up against some of Soderbergh’s best. It wouldn’t be a bad one to end on.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 5th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

81FYoqASu6L._AA1304_

Je-kyu Kang’s ’My Way’ is not just a film you watch, it’s a full emotional experience.  ’My Way’ will take you on a moving journey through several countries and languages as you grown a bond with the two main characters.  This is Korea’s most expensive film to date and you will immediately see that.  ’My Way’ is epic on all levels.  This is one of the better films I have seen in recent memory and most definitely the best film dealing with war-time since Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books.  ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy.  Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’.  Can’t wait.  Below is the official press release.  Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Films announced include titles in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes. The announced films include 17 Galas and 45 Special Presentations, including 38 world premieres.

BRIDGE – Chapter Fifteen

by Justin Cline on Mar 28th, 2012

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Peering into the empty elevator shaft, it was difficult not to at least imagine the prospect of tossing Rook’s body down into the darkness.  Despite the fact that the man’s fingers remained animated even after being severed from his body, Bridge was convinced that even they would cease to function once the killer plummetted fourteen stories. BRIDGE – Chapter Fourteen

by Justin Cline on Mar 21st, 2012

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

As always, the duality that came from channeling Polly gave Bridge a headache.  Or, in this case, worsened the one he already had.  Most humans—himself included—had difficulty maintaining a single point of focus, much less two, but here he was.  And there he was as well.  On the physical plane, he was seated in a chair in his office, gazing into the eyes of a dead man.  At the same time, his body was also floating weightlessly in space, surrounded on all sides by tiny flickering lights, hovering like fireflies. Reason # 1042 Why George Lucas Is A Boob!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…..

It might be to hype up the 3D release of one of the worst films ever made, or may be the anger of an old man finally getting back at his fans.  But I’d like to think once upon a time, George Lucas liked making movies.  Sadly that hasn’t been the case in over 20 years.  Lucas recently said he was done with making big blockbuster movies.  He said, “Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”  Now he has gone the way of the internet in trying to get a rise out of his most rabid of fans.

Hi Bryan Here….

HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ is easily one of the most brilliant and engaging series to air in the past decade.  It is full of colorful characters, gripping story lines, and tons of violence and sex.  And all of the series is based on actual people and events from the roaring 20’s in Atlantic City.  You can tell that everyone involved with the series has a passion and love for the show.  This bluray release is incredible.  The video and audio are top notch while the extras are a lot of fun for any fan of the show.  This gets my highest recommendation.  So let’s have a glass of scotch and be secret about it.

BRIDGE – Chapter Ten

by Justin Cline on Dec 28th, 2011

CHAPTER TEN

Bridge was still puzzling out how Miss Fortune could function with just one small garbage dumpster—only half-full in the early part of the evening—when the cook stepped out the back door and lit a cigarette.  He seemed to take no satisfaction from it, and Bridge could have sworn he wasn’t inhaling, the smoke drifting past his face and lingering near his left eye before dissipating into the air. BRIDGE – CHAPTER FOUR

by Justin Cline on Nov 16th, 2011

CHAPTER FOUR

Bridge was faced with a decision, a choice between two evils, neither of which was in his favor.  Should he stretch his light out to reveal what had become of his would-be client or draw the candle closer to inspect the ruins of his own gut?  In the end, the woman won out if only because he was still in a state of shock, and he knew he needed to take advantage of that fact before it wore off and the pain of what had happened to him set in. Fox Renews ‘The Simpsons’ For Two More New Seasons!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 7th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

Everyone’s favorite animated family has just been renewed for two more new seasons.  Of course I am talking about the lovable ‘Simpsons’.  Of course over the past few days, Fox and the cast of the ‘Simpsons’ have been negotiating their salaries.  Fox said earlier in the week that ‘The Simpsons’ might need to be cancelled because they could no longer afford the salaries of their cast.  Harry Shearer (voice of Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Lenny, amongst tons of others) offered 70% of his salary to keep the show going.  But that didn’t need to happen.  Fox and the cast came to a gracious agreement and we get ‘The Simpsons’ for at least two more years.  Kudos to everyone involved and thank you.

Bryan Enjoys The ‘Straw Dogs’ Remake!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Once I heard of the news that Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 film ‘Straw Dogs’ was getting remade, I was completely skeptical.  It was going to take one hell of a cast a crew to fill Peckinpah’s and Dustin Hoffman’s shoes.  I honestly didn’t think it could be done, but alas I think Peckinpah would be proud of this modern day re-telling of his work from Gordon Williams’ novel, ‘The Siege of Trencher’s Farm’.  Now the remake has its flaws, but everything from the original is mostly seen in this remake.  For fans of the original or for people new to the story, I definitely think you will enjoy all the brutal and barbaric images portrayed in this remake of ‘Straw Dogs’.

Hi Bryan Here….

So the huge action packed star studded insane action film ‘Expendables’ is getting a sequel.  If you saw the last film, you might have noticed Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a small and short cameo appearance.  We reported last time that both Arnold and Bruce will be back for the sequel with much larger roles.  Well Sly Stallone has confirmed that he has got Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris to sign on and come aboard which is turning out to be the biggest most epic action film EVER.

Music and a Movie

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 20th, 2011

Hi, M.D. here…

I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into last Thursday night when I went to the first of three monthly series presented by D Magazine’s Front Row called “Dallas, Outlaws, and the American Dream”.

Bonnie and ClydeBringing together the best of both worlds; signature films that feature a subversive outlaw portrayal with a North Texas connection, along with a local music artist who happens to explore similar themes in their own lyrical presentation. On this particular evening, we’re pleased to present talented Dallas-based singer-songwriter Miles Penhall performing early in the front gallery space, and then the film “Bonnie and Clyde” will screen shortly thereafter inside the main showroom.

The themed evening was quite intimate, just as the Kessler always is, even when it is packed (which this particular evening it wasn’t) there is a close ambiance about the theater. This was a great idea of an evening that included great music and a classic movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Blu-Ray/DVD Releases for the 3rd Week of October….

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 19th, 2010

Sorry, It’s a Little late today, but still on schedule.  There are some AWESOME releases this week.  Some that I have been waiting years for. Anyway – as usual – the pics and titles link over to AMAZON – where you can learn more about the film in question – and can purchase the item, which helps give a small donation to help keep this column going. Now – here we go…

Apocalypse Now: Full Disclosure Edition (Bluray)

During the Vietnam War, young U.S. Captain Willard is given the assignment to hunt down and kill one of his own: Colonel Kurtz who has apparently gone insane, murdered hundreds of innocent people, and constructed a strange kingdom for himself deep in the jungle. Willard and his crew embark on a surreal river journey to find Kurtz, meeting along the way a Lieutenant- Colonel who likes to watch surfing during live combat, and Playboy bunnies dropped in by helicopter to entertain rowdy troops.

This is one of the best films about war to date.  It has an all-star cast including: Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Dennis Hopper, and Francis Ford Coppola as director.  It is loaded with extras.  I highly recommend this.

Supplements

  • Interviews
  • Featurettes
  • Deleted scenes
  • Lost scene
  • “Destruction of the Kurtz Compound” end credits with audio commentary by Francis Ford Coppola
  • “The Hollow Men,” video of Marlon Brando reading T.S. Eliot’s poem
  • The Synthesizer Soundtrack” article by music synthesizer inventor Bob Moog

Exclusive HD Content

  • Hearts of Darkness Documentary
  • Hearts of Darkness audio commentary with Eleanor and Francis Ford Coppola
  • 48-page collectible printed booklet with special note from Francis Ford Coppola, never-before-seen archives from the set, behind the scenes photos and more
  • John Milius Script Excerpt with Francis Ford Coppola Notes
  • Storyboard Gallery
  • Photo Gallery, including images from photographer Mary Ellen Mark
  • Marketing Archive

Assault Girls (Bluray)

Now I do not know much about this movie, but the synopsis makes me want to buy this and watch it.  Could be a hell of a lot of chix-ploitation fun.

Plot Synopsis: When a video-game company creates an immersive gaming environment where players wage war against gigantic sand-dwelling monsters, three gorgeous gals armed to the teeth (Meisa Kuroki, Hinako Saeki and Rinko Kikuchi) accept the challenge and jump into the virtual desert. But as they blaze their way into the game’s higher levels, they face ever-more ferocious foes. Yoshikazu Fujiki also stars in this sci-fi action flick from director Mamoru Oshii.

That just sounds AWESOME.  Will be checking this out.

Moulin Rouge (Bluray)

I remember seeing this in the theatre when it was first released and I was in AWE at the set design and all the cool songs that were re-done for this movie.  This movie was just so beautiful to watch and I am glad it has finally received the HD treatment.  So enter this fantastic world where nothing is forbidden and everything is possible and purchase this movie.

Supplements

  • Introduction by Baz Luhrmann
  • A Creative Adventure
  • Uncut and Unreleased Footage
  • Production Featurettes (The Stars, The Writers, The Dance, The Music, The Design, and The Cutting Room)
  • The Making of Moulin Rouge

Exclusive HD Content

  • Spectacular, Spectacular Picture-in-Picture Viewing Mode – With audio commentary by Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Donald M. McAlpine and Craig Pearce, and featuring behind-the-scenes footage and stills
  • BD-Live

Night of the Demons (2009 Remake)  (Bluray)

This is a remake of the 1980’s horror film about a group of college kids who summon a demon at a party and kills everyone.  This remake is basically the same thing.  A group of kids go to a Halloween party, only to have to face down a group of demons.  If you like Demon movies and tons of gore and boobies, then this is a must own.  I would also purchase the original movie as well.  Just in time for Halloween.

Supplements

  • Writer/director commentary
  • Cast and crew interviews
  • Behind-the-scenes footage

Predators (Bluray)

A mercenary (Adrien Brody) reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers—mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members—human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

I remember anticipating this film and that Robert Rodriguez was a major producer on this.  This a re-vamp of the original film which starred Arnold, but instead of a Predator coming to Earth, humans go to the Predator planet.  Worth a look and a must have for the fans of the franchise.  I still miss VENTURA in his role.

Supplements

  • Commentary by producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal
  • Motion Comics: “Moments of Extraction” – Robert Rodriguez presents exclusive prequel vignettes voiced by the cast of Predators. Witness the secret adventures that turned our world’s most ruthless killers into the ultimate Predator prey (Isabelle, Mombasa, “Crucified”)
  • De-Cloaking the Invisible: Alien Terrain

Exclusive HD Content

  • Additional Motion Comics (Cuchillo, Hanzo, and Noland Intro (part 1)/Noland Ending (part 2))
  • Predators as Prey
  • The Chosen
  • Yuatja Transformed
  • Rite of Passage
  • Fox Movie Channel presents: Making a Scene
  • Nine deleted and extended scenes
  • BD-Live: Exclusive Predator Features
  • Live Lookup – Powered by IMDB
  • Bloodline
  • Intelligent Design: The Hunting Camp

Psycho: 50th Anniversary Edition (Bluray)

Alfred Hitchock’s masterpiece, “Psycho” finally gets the HD treatment.  This is hands down one of the scariest films of all time.  They built a ride after this film.  This film still scares me and Anthony Perkins is BRILLIANT.

Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), the ill-fated traveler whose journey ends in the notorious “shower scene.” First a private detective, then Marion’s sister (Ver Miles) searches for her, the horror and the suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed.

This is a must own for any collection.

Supplements

  • Audio Commentary
  • Documentary
  • Featurettes
  • Storyboards
  • Posters and Lobby Cards
  • Theatrical Trailers
  • Hitchcock/Truffaut Interviews
  • Photo Gallery

Exclusive HD Content

  • BD-Live

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Edition (Bluray)

One of the greatest cult films of all time gets the HD treatment.  I remember seeing this film when I was about 10 years old and i was forever warped.  Excellent music and young stars such as: Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meatloaf make this film what it is…..AMAZING.  They still today all over the country show midnight screenings of this film with audience participation where you can throw stuff at the screen and see actors act out the movie live in front of the screen in synch with the film.  Love this film.

‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ is an “erotic nightmare beyond any measure.” Relive Richard O’Brien’s sinfully twisted salute to horror, sci-fi, B-movies and rock music – A “sensual daydream to treasure forever” – starring Tim Curry (in his classic gender-bending performance), Barry Bostwick, and Oscar®-winner Susan Sarandon. Do the “Time Warp” and sing “Hot Patootie” with Meatloaf again…and again…and again. Pull up a slab and let the madness begin!

Supplements

Seven Samurai: Criterion Collection (Bluray)

One of the greatest films of all time by Akira Kurosawa is about a Japanese farming village, constantly besieged and pillaged by an army of bandits, recruits seven independent samurai to defend it.  This is phenomenal and am very happy to purchase this title AGAIN to get it on BLURAY.  A MUST OWN.
