HBO orders 10th season of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 14th, 2017

It was several years between season 9 and season 9 of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm‘, which the 9th season just ended on HBO to rave reviews and huge laughs. It was one of my favorite seasons for sure where Larry David had a Fatwa placed on him. The President of HBO programming Casey Bloys announced today that a 10th season will be happening and production will start next spring. Yes, that means we will have to wait a year at the most for a new season and not several years like in the past.

I’m so excited for this. Warner Bros. has partnered with HBO and is releasing the first ever 4K UHD with HDR and Dolby Atmos when it comes to television box sets. Film Review: ‘Neighbors 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

0002-neighbors-2-ew_0

It’s rare when a comedy sequel works on all levels. With sequels, you’d hope the original cast comes back and there is a good balance of returning and new jokes and plot devices to make it stand on its own without doing the same recycled material as the original. With the case of ‘Neighbors‘, you had a pretty great cast with Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, in an ‘R’ rated comedy about a couple with a newborn baby, trying to raise a family next to a frat house. It was a solid premise with a lot of funny moments. The small budget film of only $18 million went on to make over $270 million at the box office.

In what I personally declared one of the absolute worst movies of 2014, ‘Neighbors‘ stars Seth Rogen and Zac Efron turned in some fairly uninspired performances. I generally like the two actors, especially Zac Efron in ‘The Paperboy‘, so I want to say it was the abysmal story line that limited their range. It wasn’t a huge laugher in my book, but still went on to become the highest grossing comedy of the 2014 year. When you take a multi-faceted actor like Bryan Cranston, his many hats show throughout his career. You’ve got the spineless, browbeaten dad, Hal from ‘Malcolm in the Middle‘, the absolutely brilliant, frightening, genius that is Walter White from ‘Breaking Bad‘. Then you turn-around and he’s in the ‘Rock of Ages‘ musical whaling out Pat Benatar’s ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot‘. He does some fantastic voice-over work for animated productions. Remember the 6-episode of the animated version to ‘Clerks‘? Chances are if you’ve seen that, you’ve heard Cranston’s voice ( you also understand Jay’s saying “we steal monkeys all the time!” in a later film), but I digress. PLUS!!!  Don’t forget that he’s a bad boy with the roller skates! Remember that episode in Malcolm where he had a big skate scene? That was really him doing it! He’s a renaissance man. The real deal. So it shouldn’t be such a surprise that after Cranston wrapped with ‘Breaking Bad’ that he went straight to Broadway.

Film Review: ‘Neighbors’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 8th, 2014

Black Mariah Here…

Neighbors-Movie-Still-1

Let me start off this review by saying comedy movies have gone straight downhill in the past 10 years. I don’t know what demographic survey told movie studios that we wanted our comedies with a side of moral lesson, but this girl, for one, HATES my comedies anywhere near a moral lesson (I’m looking at you ‘Bridesmaids‘).  I truly miss the golden era of Adam Sandler films and comedy recordings. Sometimes settling into a good dick and fart joke film is just what you need. Don’t think about the humor, it’s just funny!

397816 06: Actor Ben Affleck and Matt Damon attend the premiere of "Project Greenlight" November 27, 2001 at the Chelsea West Theatre in New York City. (Photo by George De Sota/Getty Images)

It looks like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are brining back ‘Project Greenlight‘ to HBO. If you don’t remember, ‘Project Greenlight‘ was a reality show where Ben Affleck and Matt Damon searched for new filmmakers and writers, ultimately giving the winner a chance to make their own film and distribute it. The show followed the entire filmmaking process. I believe there were only three seasons of this show with the first two seasons revolving around two indie drama films. One of them starred Shia Lebouf and Amy Smart. The third season was the best as they went with a fun balls-to-the-wall horror film with tons of gore. That movie was called ‘Feast‘ and spawned several sequels. It was directed by John Gulager, the son of Clu Gulager. Official press release below.

Hello, Jana here,

jay-roach-premiere-the-campaign-02

If you’re looking for a successful name in the industry, look no further than Jay Roach. He began his directing career in 1990 and has been a top name for comedy since then. He is the man responsible for the three ‘Austin Powers‘ films, ‘Meet the Parents‘ and my favorite, ‘Meet the Fockers‘. In 2008 Roach began a working relationship with HBO with the movie ‘Recount‘, the film got into the details of the aftermath of the 2000 U.S. presidential election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, which led to Roach winning two Emmy’s and resulted in another Emmy-winning HBO movie, ‘Game Change‘. Roach may have moved away from the election debacle, but a new partner of his is still rather close to it.

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 6th, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

Martin Luther King, Jr.

When you hear ‘Civil Rights Movement’ most people associate that with Martin Luther King Jr., the figurehead that fueled the volt-face in the 1960’s. The American pastor and African-American Civil Rights leader is at the center of several different projects at the moment. It seems that putting King’s struggle into a workable form has been eluding filmmakers for years.

‘Gone Girl’ Writer to Pen ‘Utopia’ for HBO!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 13th, 2014

Utopia

David Fincher’s name is synonymous with a successful film franchise, and for using Brad Pitt in his work.  Films like ‘Fight Club‘, ‘Se7en‘, and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button‘ have all been huge box office hits and when we hear Fincher’s name, we expect more of the same. After a successful TV debut with Netflix’sHouse of Cards‘, he is ready to take on another series, like ‘House of Cards’ it is a British remake, and will be aired on HBO. The drama series project is based on the Channel 4 series, ‘Utopia‘, created by Dennis Kelly and produced by Kudos. ‘Utopia‘ enjoys a successful following on Channel 4 and in January of 2013 was picked up for a second season to air later this year.

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.
