Since ‘Pacific Rim 2‘ has been shelved indefinitely, Master of the Chiller, director Guillermo del Toro is circling his next project and it looks to be a remake of the 1960’s sci-fi series ‘Fantastic Voyage‘. del Toro is coming off his last picture, ‘Crimson Peak‘ released October of last year, it was moderately received despite the star power involved. So it looks like it’s time to go small, figuratively speaking, of course.

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (‘Hellboy‘, ‘Pacific Rim‘, ‘Pan’s Labyrinth‘) is returning to his Spanish roots by telling the kind of story he grew up living. His film, ‘Crimson Peak‘, is a gothic-romantic horror tale that will guarantee to scare the hell out of you, like a killer thriller should.

If you thought that the war between humankind and sea creatures of an egregious nature were over at the end of ‘Pacific Rim‘, you don’t get how movies are made today. Everything has an option for a sequel, but the biggest teaser for a next-in-line film is the small glimpse we got at the Kaiju’s realm when the package was delivered , detonated and killed everything, right? If it killed everything where would our sequel lead?

Alright YouTubers, listen up! If you want to make a real, honest-to-God film with professional cameras, this opportunity is just for you! Legendary Entertainment has entered into a working relationship with YouTube that is an entirely new approach to the film making world. The duo are collaborating on ‘YouTube Space House of Horrors: A Legendary Halloween’. It’s getting into the fall, leaves MIGHT be falling from trees, if you’re in the mid-west like I am, leaves are dying off of heat exhaustion, but no matter how it happens, fall is approaching. Where you get fall, you get Halloween.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here it is folks.  The first actual trailer for Guillermo Del Toro‘s epic film ‘Pacific Rim‘.  This might be one of my most anticipated films of next year.  Everything about this looks amazing.  The film opens July 12, 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman who operate giant robots to fight off a giant alien invasion on Earth.  Can’t wait.  Enjoy the trailer.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I really don’t understand why, but hell, this would be one awesome stage production with all the costumes and sets.  Guillermo Del Toro‘s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth‘ is being developed into a stage musical.  Don’t fret though, del Toro and Jeremy Ungar have written the stage version already with Paul Williams writing the lyrics to the songs.  Gustave Santaolalla, an Oscar winner is composing the score.  How cool is this.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I’m so psyched about this film.  Here is the first footage from Guillermo Del Toro’s epic film ‘Pacific Rim‘, which acts as sort of a viral marketing campaign for the movie.  This looks like a sort of CNN report warning civilians of giant Kaiju aliens.  And when I mean giant, I mean giant.  The film opens July 12, 2013, and I can’t wait.  Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day are in the film.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I think Guillermo Del Toro might just be the coolest guy on the planet, next to Tom Waits.  His new epic film ‘Pacific Rim’ is testing through the roof, we hear and Warner Bros. is so happy about it, they want Guillermo to make all their films.  Warner offered Guillermo to direct a feature adaptation of the tv series ‘V’ and a sequel to ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.  But we hear that Guillermo wants to do his own version of a film like ‘The Avengers’ or ‘The Justice League’.

Hi, Bryan Here….

This is awesome news.  I am currently reading this trilogy right now.  I’m almost done with book two, and I have wanted a film or television adaptation of this book since I heard about it.  I think we got a small glimpse of it with ‘Blade 2’ as the vampire mutants are very similar to the vampire plague in this book, ‘The Strain’.  Carlton Cuse will head up the television show, which Cuse was a big part of ‘LOST’ and ‘The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.’   The series will be over at FX, which has only committed to a pilot, but I expect it to be brought to series fairly soon.  Del Toro will write, direct and executive produce the pilot.

Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ Will Be in 3D!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 14th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Guillermo Del Toro’s epic film ‘Pacific Rim’ is receiving the up-convert to 3D. In past interviews with Guillermo about this film being 3D, he has always said it won’t be.  He did not want it to be 3D.  However, the scope of this film is supposed to be HUGE, and with 3D ticket prices higher than standard ticket prices, this film could make more money.  That’s probably what the studio execs are thinking.

Guillermo del Toro has signed on to write and direct an animated picture for Dreamworks Animation called “Trollhunters”.  Now this is not to be confused with the upcoming mockumentary Norwegian film “Troll Hunter which you can find info about HERE.

Trollhunters is based on a forthcoming youth novel by del Toro.

Guillermo said in an interview, “ animation has caught his eye because he believes that during the next 10 years, the entertainment landscape will shift into a transmedia world — a confluence of movies, TV, books, video and online — and artists will need to be educated in all aspects of media.”

“Transmedia,” he said, “will not just be a buzz word.”

Anything by Del Toro, I am interested in.  This is one to keep your eye on.

Despite a rich and incredibly varied film history, one would be hard pressed to imagine a more famous Japanese cinematic export than Godzilla. Born at Toho Company in 1954, he’s still alive and kicking ass, as it were, at the ripe age of sixty. Cast as a villain and a hero over the years, whatever his role, he has always been nature’s favorite solution to just about any problem. Six decades ago he was awakened by atomic bomb testing and took revenge on mankind for creating them. In this new Gareth Edwards iteration, other monsters feed on radiation from our nuclear power plants in order to wreak similar havoc, so Godzilla is sent to annihilate them.

He definitely made a big impact on audiences around the world and spawned 31 sequels and remakes since then. Director Gareth Edwards brings that number to 32 with his epic and dark toned reboot that is sure to please fans young and old and have them roaring with joy as they exit the theater. Edwards was Hollywood’s top  choice to reboot this franchise after everyone saw his 2010 film called ‘Monsters‘, which focused on two lost lonely souls who have to trek through a quarantined zone in Mexico, while evading giant tentacled monsters.

How do we know what took place when we were not there to witness an event? We wait for the movie to come out. The more common way is we wait for the book to come out, then someone writes a movie based off the actual events. Historical movies make big money so it’s not surprising that a book describing the first hand account of the Benghazi attack is in the works. It’s also not surprising that Paramount is already negotiating to purchase film rights to the book that hasn’t even been released, yet.

Artist Nicolas Francoeur has created a bunch of characters from the classic 1980’s film ‘The NeverEnding Story‘, as if the film were to be remade for next year. It’s not a crazy thought, and to be honest, I don’t know why it hasn’t been remade yet. Hell, it had a few sequels.

Film Review: ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 12th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

desolation-of-smaug-dragon

And we’ve arrived in the 2nd year of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘, and let me tell you, it’s a big improvement on the last film, which was released the same time last year. First off, we don’t have to spend a half hour inside Bilbo’s home with thirteen dwarves eating, drinking, and singing songs about washing dishes and Bilbo’s unhappy attitude. In this sequel things start off fast and to the point, which is sure to excite all audiences. Still, adapting J.R.R Tolkien’s less than 300 page novel into three separate films might be a bit much, but damn if it isn’t fun and highly entertaining this time around with a giant fire breathing dragon, some epic battles, a familiar elf, and an escape from orcs that I could watch 100 times in a row and never tire of. Just like the previous films set in Middle Earth, I expect another billion dollars for Jackson and co.

Hi, Bryan Here….

brad_pitt_world_war_z_movie-1920x1080

We all knew that we were getting a sequel to the zombie smash hit ‘World War Z‘, since the first film made over $540 million dollars. There is much more to tell in that whole universe, which was though up by Mel Brooks‘ son, Max Brooks, who wrote the book. The first film was directed by Marc Forster and starred Brad Pitt, but now the studio has chosen a different director, which is Juan Antonio Bayona.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Warner Bros. and DC Comics have teamed up yet again. This time it’s for a television show based on the comic book ‘Constantine‘. If you remember, a few years ago, Keanu Reeves starred as John Constantine, based on the same book. This particular series will be headed to NBC with David S. Goyer and Daniel Cerone serving as writer and producer.

Film Review: ‘Pacific Rim’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 10th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

pacificrim

Robots, monsters, and Ron Perlman. Oh my. Director Guillermo Del Toro has given us a movie that we’ve all wanted to see since we were five years old. In an action-packed and brilliant special effects film, we have giant 30-story robots fighting vicious mega monsters on Earth. Guillermo was the perfect person for this project as he is a fan of genre films and can tell a great story with flawless structure and good acting, while mixing in loud and vibrating action sequences. ‘Pacific Rim‘ movies fast and will keep you on your toes till the very end, and while this summer has proved that big budget action movies won’t always go the distance, I’m betting this one will.

Home Entertainment as The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The six-disc set will feature all three films with their existing extra content, two new featurettes and exclusive new collectible memorabilia. Hi, Bryan Here….

robopocalypse

Here is a bit of unfortunate news.  Spielberg has been working on his next directorial effort on the heels of his award winning film ‘Lincoln‘, which is an “end of the world’ type of scenario called ‘Robopocalypse‘.  That film has been put on an indefinite hold, according to a source close to the project.  The film would center on the destruction of the human race caused by a robot uprising.  And the film was an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s novel of the same name.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Film Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Welcome back to Middle Earth.  Peter Jackson‘s version of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘, which covers the first six chapters of the 19 chapter book, is very faithful to the original material. Jackson has gone back to the world that made him a household name and literally translated verbatim from page to screen, which is sure to blow the minds of fans of the book. However, at its almost 3 hour run-time, ‘The Hobbit‘ feels sluggish and never seems to pick up any sort of pace.  That being said, i have no doubt this movie will make hundreds of millions of dollars before the year is over.

We’ve been hearing that Warner Bros. has been developing a new Pinocchio project, and now Jane Goldman will write the script for Tim Burton to direct Robert Downey Jr, which will be a first time collaboration for the two to work together.  No contracts have been signed yet, but Burton and Robert have been talking with Warner about their excitement and suggestions for the film according to THR.

ABC’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Has Its Beast!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 25th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Beauty and the Beast’ has been getting lots of attention lately.  And I think it has something to do with Disney’s 3D version of their animated classic.  Not only has there been the re-release of the classic animated film by Disney, but there is this new ABC project coming about, and another project with Guillermo Del Toro spearheading the classic Beast tale.  And now the ABC version has finally cast its beast, and it might be someone you won’t expect.

Hi Bryan Here….

Tim Burton is in talks to direct a live-action version of ‘Pinocchio’ movie which is currently being scripted by ‘Pushing Daisies’ creator, Bryan Fuller.  Warner Bros. is courting Robert Downey Jr. to star as Geppetto as well.  This is no surprise as Burton’s last film, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ was his biggest box office success.  Now it seems on the big screen as well as on television, there is an abundance of fantasy/fairy tale films in the works.  Heck there is a few Snow White films coming out and a few Pinocchio films coming out, and not too mention the many more fantasy/fairy tale films that have been slated for this year already.

Hollywood has a rich tradition of releasing competing movie projects at virtually the same time.  Armageddon squared off against Deep Impact.  Before that, Big duked it out with Vice Versa and roughly 87 other body-swapping comedies, the last of which was kept on a shelf until finally being released earlier this year (The Change-Up).  So it is that two studios have set their sights on updated interpretations of Snow White, currently scheduled to be released with 3 months of each other. Hi Bryan Here….

I’ve been looking forward to the Guillermo Del Toro produced horror film ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ for quite some time.  No, it isn’t a spinoff or the inspiration from the Nickelodeon show ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’.  It is a remake of the 1973 made for tv movie of the same name.  I did not know what to expect really from the movie before I watched it.  I was thinking it was going to be all horror, but to my surprise it was a much scarier, more hardcore horror film in the vein of the 80’s film ‘Gremlins’.  This is ultimately a kids film.  A very scary, dark, brutal kids film. When I was 10 or twelve years old, and I watched this, I would have nightmares for months.  This would have scared the shit out of me.

Hi Bryan Here…

I can’t believe it has been more then ten years since Peter Jackson unleashed his vision of Lord of the Rings on the world.  It has been a long and treacherous journey in getting this film, “The Hobbit” green-lit and made.  At first director Guillermo DEl Toro was attached to direct and I would have loved to have seen his vision.  But alas, the main maestro is behind the camera again to finish what he started a decade ago.

Guillermo Del Toro wants to make a 3rd Hellboy film, but Hellboy star Ron Perlman is not eager yet to make another one.

Guillermo said in an interview that he has plans to finish the Hellboy trilogy.  He went on to say that Ron really does not want to because, “He really grew tired of the makeup in the second film and he was really rubbed the wrong way by those seven hour sessions.  And I think that … I don’t blame him … but I think it is almost impossible for him to agree to do it. I can’t make a Hellboy film without Ron, you know, at all.”

So it was mentioned that they could start up an online petition for Ron and Hellboy 3 to get on board and make the film in to which Guillermo replied, “You know what?  If you guys start that, I promise you it would help, because he would absolutely love that.”

So if you click HERE, you can sign the petition which takes all of 20 seconds.  Let’s all sign this and get a 3rd Hellboy film.

John Boyega Set to Star in ‘Pacific Rim’ Sequel!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

John_Boyega_97807

Yes, we are finally getting that ‘Pacific Rim‘ sequel we have always wanted, but again, it won’t be directed by Guillmero Del Toro. Instead, it will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight, who is more into TV Series, than films. Actually, this is DeKnight’s first feature film, and a mighty big one at that. DeKnight, Del Toro, and Legendary Pictures have set John Boyega to star in the sequel.
