‘Gotham City Sirens’ Will Rock Theaters Soon!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

GCS Cv1 var

Margot Robbie and director David Ayer are back together, the last time this happened, the world received ‘Suicide Squad‘. The next venture is even more of a daunting task, and that is ‘Gotham City Sirens‘. I’ll assume that not everyone eats, sleeps and breathes DC comics and I’ll slow it down. DC is the comic book world I prefer to live in, I like dark, deep, broody, melancholy atmospheres, and I’m not entirely certain the sun ever hits the center of Gotham City, but I’m ok with that. Marvel is too bright and flashy and, just not me.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

BoxArt

THE FILM

LEGO sure has the market on DC films for kids. This film as the past direct-to-video films have incorporated almost all of the DC heroes to satisfy all fans for all ages. Packed with some great voice-talent that is recognizable to fans, this 78-minute ‘Justice League‘ story is quite entertaining, despite the chaotic pace and silliness. The full title of this film is ‘LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League – Gotham City Breakout‘ and has just about every DC superhero and villain showing up here, along with some new characters.

Season 1 of ‘Gotham’ Coming To DVD and Blu-Ray!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 15th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

1000543313BRDLEFO_9392df82

Following the current trend of superhero antics on the big and small screens, Warner Bros. stepped up their game by offering ‘Gotham‘, an intimate look at James Gordon before Batman, covering his rise to power in the Gotham police force. Circle September 8 on your calendar, then get ready to relive a series that is sans the bat, but not without the boy, Bruce Wayne. I was skeptical of the success the series would have by benching the caped crusader who is instantly recalled when most hear the name ‘Gotham‘, but season 1 has proven the city is big enough for all variety of heroes and villains.

Hey fanboys and girls, Jana here,

GOTHAM_CAROUSEL_DESKTOP_1400x386-carousel-1400x386

Everyone remember the hype surrounding the new prequel series ‘Gotham‘? We’ve been inundated with teasers, internet ads, and just in general talking about how awesome, or un-awesome (is that a word?) it’s going to be. I want to be hopeful, because I’m a huge fan of the bat. Love the world of Gotham City and it’s dark, iniquitous, sullen tones. I’ve always loved the Tim Burton version of the Batman films, don’t get me wrong, Nolan’s flicks were excellent in that they gave me the action I crave. But I like how the first set of movies make him a real character and not either just a 40-pack a day smoker in a cowl, or an asshole.

‘Gotham’ Casts Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 5th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Gotham City

Comic book fans, Dark Knight collectors, and DC fans everywhere can now speculate on how the young Bruce Wayne is going to pan out now that he and Selena Kyle have been cast for the Batman prequel series ‘Gotham‘ for Fox. Thirteen-year-old David Mazouz, co-star with Kiefer Sutherland in 2012’s ‘Touch‘, has been confirmed for the role of the young- eccentric-millionaire-orphan Bruce Wayne. Camren Bicondova, a newcomer to the film industry, is set to play the role of the highly skilled sticky-pawed Catwoman, a.k.a. Selena Kyle.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Action9-415x450

Fox’s Batman prequel series ‘Gotham‘ has been adding names left and right for the past few weeks to its cast. Ben McKenzie will play Jim Gordon while Donal Logue will play Harvey Bullock. Now, the network has cast Jada Pinkett Smith (‘The Matrix‘) in the series. Smith will play a ruthless villain called Fish Mooney, a sadistic mob boss who might be in cahoots with The Penguin.

Jana B. here,

 BEN-MCKENZIE

For a serious Batman fan, like me, there can never be too many origin stories. If you’ve read the comics, watched the movies, the early tv series and basically scoured the internet for more information about the wounded and caped hero, you’re extremely excited about the upcoming ‘Gotham‘ TV series, and it’s series order. I know I’m not alone here in my excitement.

Hi Bryan Here…

Yes.  “Gotham High” is real.  This was pitched as a tv show and it got lost in the cards over at DC/Warner Bros. from all the Batman projects that are going on.  Basically it is a Batman cartoon with all the Batman universe in it, but it is set in high school and all the heroes and villains are the students that go there.  It sounds a lot like that MTV cartoon they had severl years ago called CLONE HIGH where a scientist cloned a ton of historical figures that were high school students and they all went to CLONE HIGH.  It was a hilarious show, but was only on for one season die to the huge controversy it made.  That photo above is Clayface, Two-Face, The Penguin, Killer Croc, The Riddler, Batgirl, Batman, Scarecrow, Catwoman, Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Bane and Mr. Freeze. As teenagers. It’s a promotional image from Gotham High, a show that was being developed by comic book  artist & author team Celeste Green and Jeffrey Thomas based on an image they sent to DC.

We’ve got the latest trailer for ‘Tomb Raider’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 18th, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

It’s a new year and we’re a few days closer to the debut of the ‘Tomb Raider‘ reboot which will hit theaters March 16. The film comes from Norwegian film director Roar Uthaug (‘The Wave‘, ‘Escape‘), while the screenplay comes from screenwriters Alastair Siddons (‘Trespass Against Us‘), and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Her credits include some pretty big up and coming flicks like a ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ film, ‘Captain Marvel‘, ‘Gotham City Sirens‘, and ‘M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand‘.

To carry out the visions of these filmmakers, they’ve brought an amazing cast on board. Alicia Vikander will take over the Lara Croft role, with Kristin Scott Thomas, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, and Dominic West all lending their talents to this big-screen spectacle.

You never thought we’d get a crossover feature animated film of Batman and Scooby-Doo, did you? Well we have one now and I’m here to say that’s it’s quite a fun experience that combines both the DC Universe and the classic Scooby-Doo antics that we’ve grown to love. This marks the 30th Scooby-Doo film and brings back the whole ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold‘ cast back to the screen, which is the first time since 2011 when they went off the air with their hit TV show. On paper, or even the fun poster art of the film, you wouldn’t think these two worlds would mix well together, but when the two universes collide, its seems like they were always meant to be together and solve crimes together. They are the peanut butter and jelly of the animated world.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The threats of terrorism, war, chaos, and financial ruin are all too real these days.  ’The Dark Knight Rises’ dives into these issues on a massive scale, which makes any film in the Marvel universe look like mere “child’s play” (no reference to a knife-wielding murderous doll).  Compared with the other Batman movies, everything is bigger in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and there is so much more at stake.  Not one second of this film is wasted, the writing and direction is straight to the point, cohesive, and comes across as totally fulfilling in its 164 minute run-time.

4K UHD Review: ‘Batman Begins’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

Since 1989, we were thrilled to have Batman movies. In 1989, we received are first big budget Batman film from newcomer director at the time Tim Burton. It went onto be a box office sensation and spawned three more sequels, which became increasingly worse and silly. By the time the 4th film got around, it was more like watching a slapstick cartoon than anything good or resembling Batman. In fact, the franchise became a joke. Then came along Christopher Nolan who made his trilogy of Batman films, starting with ‘Batman Begins‘, which told a much darker and realistic side of the Dark Knight. The results were astounding on both critical and box office fronts.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The Dark Knight‘ is one of those rare instances where the sequel is even better that it’s previous original movie. I would say that this film is perhaps one of the greatest, if not the greatest superhero film of all time so far. In addition to that, it’s just a fantastic film itself that can compete with any movie out there. This sequel picks up with Batman in the prime of his justice restoring and bringing criminals to jail. Christian Bale is better than ever here as Batman and we see how him being the caped crusader is taking a toll both physically and mentally on him. He still manages to come through though each time. But soon enough, comes The Joker, played flawlessly by Heath Ledger.

The films include the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘, ‘Inception‘, ‘The Prestige‘, ‘Interstellar‘, and the recent ‘Dunkirk‘. The whole collection will retail at about $150 with the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘ retailing at around $70. Of course with the holidays coming up, expect big discounts everywhere for these.

Film Review: ‘LOGAN’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-02-17 at 11.10.34 AM

For decades now, we have been clamoring for a ‘Wolverine‘ film done right. From his first incarnation in Hulk #181 to his own miniseries in comic book form in the 1980’s by Frank Miller, to the amazing Saturday Morning Cartoon, and his first appearance in a feature film in 2000 with ‘X-Men‘, which had the song and dance man Hugh Jackman play the iconic character. He was so good at playing Logan/Wolverine, that fans immediately took a liking to him as that character and he went on to play the ‘Snikt-y Snikt’ character in almost a dozen more films. Besides the ‘X-Men‘ films, Wolverine got his own set of standalone films, which may or may not have been liked by a lot of people for various reasons. Either the story was too silly or the character Wolverine was to PG for fans.

Zack Snyder has placed J.K. Simmons in the middle of another superhero world, this time making him Gotham City police commissioner Gordon in his upcoming ‘The Justice League‘. Wise-cracking Wade Wilson aka Deadpool is a fan favorite for his ass-kicking capability and his witty master of the English language. Marvel originally introduced Wilson in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine‘ in 2009 played perfectly by Ryan Reynolds. In a somewhat strange turn of events, Reynolds confirmed that the current ‘Deadpool’ will have no connection to the character he originated in the Wolverine movie, but will be playing him again, in the new incarnation. This time around Wade Wilson, an assassin who undergoes a procedure to cure his cancer that ends up leaving him twisted and scarred but carrying superpowers. ‘Deadpool‘ is slated to begin filming in March and slated for 2016 release.

If you think about superhero television shows, or if you’re like me, you think of the dreck that was ‘Lois and Clark‘, ‘Mutant X‘, or ‘The Tick‘?  If it’s not one of those shows, then it’s probably something equally abysmal. With the resurgence of super-powered peeps making such an excellent showing at the box office – because why would they be creating so frakking many of them if they weren’t making some serious coin? So it stands to reason that the small screen is looking for new hit projects in the same vein.

Edward Norton Turns to ‘Motherless Brooklyn’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 21st, 2014

Jana B. here,

Edward Norton

Edward Norton is an exceptional and compelling actor, writer and filmmaker, and has decided on his next project. Well, he decided 15 years ago, it just took time to get his vision crystal clear before it could be put to celluloid. That time is now. What is this mysterious project, you ask? The film treatment of the Jonathan Lethem novel of critical acclaim, ‘Motherless Brooklyn‘. You know how you read a book and hope someone takes that vision and puts it directly onto screen? Don’t hold your breath for that happening with this novel. While taking the source material mostly straight across there are going to be some major changes. One of those changes is Lethem’s novel takes place in 1999, or at least contemporary New York. Norton is setting his story in 1954, a time of great change in the city.

I’m very skeptical about this project. The original ‘Escape from New York‘ that starred Kurt Russell and was directed by John Carpenter is pretty much flawless. ‘Escape From LA‘ on the other hand wasn’t as good, even though it had Bruce Campbell. Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman franchise ranks as the best film in the series.  That’s difficult for me to say, as the first two films were so amazing.  Even with Heath Ledger’s iconic and eternal role as the Joker in the previous film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ far surpasses anything my imagination could have hoped for in film.  Movies do not get better than ’The Dark Knight Rises’.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna are trying to figure life out.  They’ve been living in New York for a couple of years, but they’re still not sure what they want – from boys, from each other, from themselves.  And things aren’t getting any clearer.  Created by and starring Lena Dunham (“Tiny Furniture”), the new HBO series GIRLS takes a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s.  Dunham, Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner executive produce the show, which kicks off its ten-episode season SUNDAY, APRIL 15 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.  Bruce Eric Kaplan and Ilene S. Landress co-executive produce.

You’ve probably seen it already, but in case you haven’t yet, here is ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer.  Plus, if you have seen it already, take a nother look and see if you can find any hidden easter eggs.  Like the one in the poster above.  Right below the left bat wing, it looks like the Superman symbol.  Is it?  Looking forward to his one.  Let’s hope this film is just as good as the previous two.  Enjoy.

Hi Bryan Here….

The past two Batman films have been filmed in the Chicago area and they have looked phenomenal there.  It actually looked like what I picture Gotham to be.  It was beautiful and haunting all at the same time.  Now, Nolan has announced that he will film the third Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” in Pittsburgh.

Beginning January 2011, DC Comics will implement a line-wide pricing adjustment, lowering the prices of all standard length 32-page ongoing comic book titles currently priced at $3.99 to $2.99, it was announced today by DC Comics Co-Publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio.

“Today’s announcement re-affirms DC Comics’ commitment to both our core fans and to comic book store retailers,” said Jim Lee, DC Comics Co-Publisher. “For the long term health of the industry, we are willing to take a financial risk so that readers who love our medium do not abandon the art form.”

“As Co-Publishers, we listened to our fans and to our partners in the retail community who told us that a $3.99 price point for 32 pages was too expensive. Fans were becoming increasingly reluctant to sample new titles and long term fans were beginning to abandon titles and characters that they’d collected for years.” said Dan DiDio, DC Comics Co-Publisher. “We needed a progressive pricing strategy that supports our existing business model and, more importantly, allows this creative industry to thrive for years to come. With the exceptions of oversized comic books, like annuals and specials, we are committed to a $2.99 price point.”

When taking into account mini-series, annuals and specials, more than 80% of DC’s comic books will be priced at $2.99.

As of January, the following titles standard length ongoing titles, previously priced at $3.99 for 32 pages/22 story pages, will be priced at $2.99 with 32 pages/20 story pages:

American Vampire;
Batman: The Dark Knight;
Batman Incorporated;
Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors;
JSA All-Stars.

As of January, the following licensed titles, previously priced at $3.99, will be priced at $2.99:

Gears of War;
God of War;
Kane & Lynch;
Ratchet & Clank.

As of January, the following ongoing titles previously priced at $3.99 for 40 pages/30 story pages including co-features, will no longer include co-features and will be priced at $2.99 for 32 pages/ 20 story pages:

Action Comics;
Adventure Comics;
Batman: Streets of Gotham;
Detective Comics;
Doc Savage;
Justice League of America;
Legion of Super-Heroes;
The Spirit.

In January, five books are $3.99 for 40 pages/30 story pages:

Batman: Europa # 1
First Wave # 6
DCU: Legacies # 9
Weird Worlds # 1
World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen

The following oversized anniversary issue will be $4.99 for 48 pages/38 story pages:

Hellblazer # 275

BLURAY/DVD Releases For the Last Week of September 2010

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2010

Tons of releases this week including my favorite film of all time.  It seems that a few weeks go by with some “ok” releases then one week later oodles of BADASS releases come out, burning a giant hole in my wallet.  Well this is one of those weeks.  Like before, click on the link/picture to be whisked away to AMAZON where you can purchase the movie for a big discount.  Enjoy this week’s releases.

This was a hard film to catch in theaters because it was a very limited theatrical run. Remember that film a few years ago, “Open Water” about that couple that went snorkeling in the ocean and their tour boat left them in the middle of the ocean accidentally? Well, “Frozen” is a little bit like that. A few college kids go skiing for a weekend and take the chair lift up one last time right when the park closes. Midway up the ski lift and about 100 feet up in the air, the chair lift stops and the park closes for the entire week and does not open again until the weekend. Five days without food or water in freezing conditions. What would you do? Check this film out!

Special Features include:

Audio commentary with Writer/director Adam Green and actors Shawn Ashmore, Kevin Zegers and Emma Bell
Catching Frostbite: The Origins of Frozen
Three Below Zero
Shooting Through It
Beating the Mountain: Surviving Frozen
Deleted scenes
Theatrical trailer
*Exclusive to Bluray* – Audio commentary with Adam Green, cinematographer Will Barratt and editor Ed Marx

A spin-off of 2008’s hugely successful Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek reunites Jonah Hill (Superbad), playing a low-ranking record-label employee, and Russell Brand (Despicable Me), the ultimate larger-than-life rock-star Aldous Snow. Also starring are Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) in a devastatingly funny comic turn, Rose Byrne (“Damages”) and Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”), plus cameos from music and media stars including Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lars Ulrich, Pharrel, Meredith Viera, Billy Bush, Mario Lopez, Kurt F. Loder and Paul Krugman. This is as raunchy as “The Hangover” and as funny as Superbad.

Special Features include:

Gag Reel
Getting in Tune with the Greek
The Making Of “African Child”
Five complete music videos featuring Aldous Snow, Infant Sorrow, and Jackie Q
Musical Performances
Deleted, Extended, and Alternate Scenes including Alternate Intro/Ending
Digital Copy
Line-O-Rama
Blind Medicine: Promo for Sarah Marshall’s new TV series
Audio commentary with Director Nicolas Stoller, Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Rose Byrne, Elisabeth Moss, and producer Rodney Rothman
Getting to Get Him to the Greek

*Exclusive to Bluray Features* include:

Additional Deleted and Extended Scenes
Musical Performances from The Today Show and VH-1 Storytellers
Karaoke – Sing Along to 15 Outrageous Songs
Cast Auditions
My Scenes
Pocket Blu
Social Blu
BD-Live

I really loved Iron Man 2. It was such a blast in the theater to see. The action was non-stop and the characters were even more developed which made me care amore about them. This is something that has been lacking in the comic book film adaptations. Seeing Iron Man and War Machine team up and kill bad guys was out of this world. Mickey Rourke did a phenomenal job as the villain “Whiplash”. This movie had it all for me, even the cool cameos of Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, and the awesome Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. I am looking forward to a 3rd film as well as the Avengers movie in a couple of years.

Special Features include:

Commentary by Jon Favreau
Creating Stark Expo
Practical Meets Digital
Four deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Jon Favreau

Exclusive to BLURAY Features* include:

S.H.I.E.L.D. Data Vault
Previsualization and Animatics
Ultimate Iron Man: The Making of Iron Man 2
Illustrated Origins: Black Widow, Nick Fury, War Machine
Working with DJ AM—Jon Favreau remembers working with Adam Goldstein
Four Blu-ray exclusive deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Jon Favreau
Concept art gallery
Theatrical trailers
Music Video: AC/DC “Shoot To Thrill”

Finally. My favorite movie of all time. The 1933 version of King Kong. Actually I have two favorite movies. King Kong and Army of Darkness, but Army of Darkness has already been released in HD, but King Kong (1933) has not, until this week. What an epic movie this is. I love everything about this film. It is not so much an action adventure story but a love story. Pure and simple. “It was beauty killed the beast.” From that first moment that Kong sees Fay, he falls in love, but deep down he knows he will be doomed, for he cannot have anything so beautiful in life. But he protects her from everything and will stop at nothing to be with her, even if it means his own demise. This movie is a must own. i am so excited that this is finally out on BLURAY.

Special Features include:

Commentary by creature creator Ray Harryhausen and visual effects artist Ken Ralston, with archival sound bites from Merian C. Cooper and Fay Wray
I’m Kong: The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper (2005 TCM documentary)
The Making of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World (7-part documentary)
Trailers

I will see anything with David Bowie. Anything. Especially a David Bowie War Film. Now this is a criterion release which means it is the best release you can get. “In this captivating, exhilaratingly skewed World War II drama from Nagisa Oshima, David Bowie regally embodies the character Celliers, a high-ranking British officer interned by the Japanese as a POW. Music star Ryuichi Sakamoto (who also composed this film’s hypnotic score) plays the camp commander, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious blond major, while Tom Conti is British lieutenant colonel Mr. Lawrence, who tries to bridge the emotional and language divides between his captors and fellow prisoners. Also featuring actor-director Takeshi Kitano in his first dramatic role, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is a multilayered, brutal, at times erotic tale of culture clash that was one of Oshima’s greatest successes.”

Special Features include:

•The Oshima Gang, an original making-of featurette
New video interviews with producer Jeremy Thomas, screenwriter Paul Mayersberg, actor Tom Conti, and actor-composer Ryuichi Sakamoto
Hasten Slowly, an hour-long documentary about author and adventurer Laurens van der Post, whose autobiographical novel is the basis for the film
Original theatrical trailer
A booklet featuring an essay by film writer Chuck Stephens and a 1983 interview with director Nagisa Oshima by Japanese film writer Tadao Sato

Rock & Rule stars Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick and more in this animated classic rock movie. The movie is about Angel, a member of a punk rock band in the apocalyptic future, is kidnapped by Mok, a legendary super rocker. Obsessed with an evil experiment, Mok plans to use Angel’s voice to summon a demon from another dimension. The rest of the band follows Mok to Nuke York in an attempt to rescue her and then the ultimate battle of good vs. evil begins. Why would you say no to this movie? This will be watched with beer and friends at midnight.

Wow. Two releases in the same week with Iggy Pop. Add to that cast, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and vampires, and you got yourself “SUCK”. It is about a band’s bass player that becomes a vampire, down and out rock band, The Winners are launched into spotlight. Stalked by creepy producers, wild groupies and the legendary vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing, The Winners soon find fame to be a fate worse than death. Doesn’t that sound AWESOME?

Special Features include:

Audio commentary
Making-of featurette
Music Video
Cast-and-crew interviews
Deleted scenes

Another one of those PG-13 animated superhero films. Ed Asner lends his voice talent to the cast which is always a plus. “After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.”

Special Features include:

DC Showcase: Green Arrow (short film)
Sneak Peek at the Next DC Animated Movie
Supergirl: The Last Daughter of Krypton featurette
Two bonus TV episodes handpicked by Bruce Timm

*Exclusive BLURAY Featues* include:

The New Gods
Orion and Mister Miracle Mini-featurettes
Two more TV episodes handpicked by Bruce Timm
Digital Copy
