THE FILM

(This film review portion was written by Dan Moran.)

The fifth installment of Disney’s nearly $4 billion dollar franchise is a Pirates movie through and through. It is about 20 minutes too long, has a needlessly complex plot, fantastic action set pieces, and way too many characters. I found it to be a real roller coaster viewing experience, where some points I was loving every single second of what was on screen and others I wanted to check my phone to see how much longer was left. There were no scenes in this entire movie that I was just ‘Ok’ with. I was either loving it or tolerating it. When it was all over I was pleased with the ending and, more importantly, that it ended.

Getting Deep with ‘Gods of Egypt’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 11th, 2017

Jennifer S., here….

gods-of-egypt-1

Firstly, this is my first real blog post; inspired by the fact that I finally got to view Gods of Egypt.  This was, like many Egyptian Mythology based movies were, a movie that I was looking forward to finally viewing.  I’m uncertain as to why I decided this was the topic I wanted to delve back into writing for, but here it is.  I feel two ways about it.  I’m going to express initially that I enjoyed it from an objective standpoint, it was fun and colorful and full of some interesting effect that got them right as often as they got them wrong… Giant Heads… #BobbleGods.  Now I’m going to express my displeasure, as anyone who has a passing interest in actual mythology realizes, it’s terrible.  The story is anyway, but the plotline is okay… and personally, I feel the message was all wrong about the afterworld.

The Beatles LOVE By Cirque du Soleil Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary At The Mirage In Las Vegas

Even though filming of the latest installment of Disney’sPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales‘ has wrapped, that doesn’t mean the magic has ended. Directors Joachim Ronning, Espen Sandberg and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have reverted to adding an extra big set-piece scene. Word is that it’s built around a rock legend and I’m not talking about Keith Richards. This star comes in the form of Paul McCartney.

Film Review: ‘Gods of Egypt’!!

by Janet White on Feb 26th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Gods of Egypt - Sphinx

Hot muscled men in shining, defining armor, beautiful women wrapped in silks and armor for the menfolk, and mythology.  Sounds like the makings of greatness, right?  Well, no.  Gods of Egypt opens in a fast push in across Egypt.  Suddenly, Egypt is abruptly ripped apart by war obsessed and power hungry, Set (Gerard Butler).  With his father Osiris (Bryan Brown) and mother Isis (Rachael Blake) deceased, Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has a journey ahead of him if he hopes to regain his kingdom.

Could Kaya Scodelario Be Heading To The High Seas?!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 22nd, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

Kaya-Scodelario

There are some film franchises that can continue churning out hit after hit after hit. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ isn’t that franchise anymore. The first film, was epic, grand and sweeping and everyone got caught up in the timeless nature of the story, the romanticism of running away with a pirate and pirates being pirates who will do anything they must to achieve their goals. The second film came and I was even more intrigued because this time there was the whole mystique of Davy Jones thrown into the beautiful mix. Then the third…and the fourth…..and now a fifth. I’m pirated out. It’s over, man the rowboats, search for survivors and head for shore. Alas, Disney won’t listen to me, much like Marvel doesn’t listen to me either. If crowds love it and swarm to it, it’s easy to get greedy and kick out film after film with the only goal being to capitalize on the current hot trend. It IS possible to have too much of a good thing! If I can actually have too much bacon to the point where I’m giving it away, it’s possible to have too many frakking pirate movies!

Criterion Collection Titles For December 2012!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 17th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The good folks over at Criterion have just announced their titles for December, 2012.  There are some really cool titles for December.  One  title I have waited for years to own on criterion.  Another title is actually Christopher Nolan’s first film, ‘Following’, which is very exciting.  If this is any indication, we might get future Nolan films on Criterion sooner than later, which means a possible Dark Knight Criterion. After all, with Criterion, most director’s who get a film in at Criterion, tend to get more of their films in that pot.   So here’s hoping.  Sadly, no announcement of ‘Good Burger’ or any of the Ernest movies yet, but hopefully in the year 2013, we will get at least one of those.  I can’t wait until December now.  Thanks, Criterion.  Thanks.

Bryan Reviews ‘Save the Date’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 17th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Save the Date’ is a romantic comedy about the love lives of two sisters. While loyal indie romantic comedy fans may love this film merely because it echoes their favorite genre, this particular romantic comedy comes up short on both the romance and the comedy.  Although it may capture the indie “feel”, it lacked the spark and originality that should be at the heart of an independent film.  Even the stellar cast was unable to overcome the monotony of the storyline.

Hi Bryan Here….

Now I’ll be honest.  I have only seen the first Pirates film and now I have seen the latest ‘On Stranger Tides’ film.  I didn’t care much for the first film.  I felt it dragged and was too boring. I know it had a huge budget and was full of adventure, but the adventure and action was less than stellar.  I know I’m the odd man out on this issue as I know tons of friends love this series of films and swear by it, but really never did much for me.  Saying that, I do think Johnny Depp is AMAZING in these films.  He definitely deserves an Oscar WIN.  Other than that and maybe the fact that Keith Richards has a little something to do with the films, I just can’t get into it.  Same rings true for this ‘On Stranger Tides’ sequel.  Yes, it had a bit more thrill and fun, but ultimately fell short.  I wish I felt differently.  I really want to like these movies, but sadly I can’t do it.
