Film Review: ‘Battle of the Sexes’!!

by Janet White on Sep 22nd, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

The year was 1972; Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) had just won the US Open. Thrust into the mainstream limelight, emerged into the Women’s Lib movement, and treated as the lesser sex by the world, King breaks free from the bonds of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association. The USNLTA paid the female players considerably less than the male players for illogical reasons like men are the big ticket sellers; men need the money for their families, etc. With her trusted friend and manager, Gladys Heldman (Sarah Silverman), along with her and other female tennis players the face of tennis was forever changed.

Goodbye Christopher Robin has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 4th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Looks like Fox Searchlight made a Winnie the Pooh movie without Winnie the Pooh. Instead, they Star Wars prequel-ed it and are bringing us a film called Goodbye Christopher Robin, which nobody wants to see. The film stars Domhall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, and Kelly McDonald that all takes place before Winnie the Pooh was even a thing. In fact, it’s about creating the honey-loving bear and his friends, along with some boring family love and drama. At least there looks to be some Nam-style war flashbacks. Honestly, I might just take a nap and you all can fill me in on this.

Hey guys, Jana here,

We all know the movies based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien (‘The Lord of the Rings‘ and ‘The Hobbit‘ trilogies), but not many knew the man. Chernin Entertainment for Fox Searchlight have set Dome Karukoski at the task of directing a biopic of the author. Nicholas Hoult is the front-runner to take on the part of the gifted author.

Woody Harrelson is ‘Wilson’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 18th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-01-18 at 3.18.19 PM

Woody Harrelson is having a few big years and for good reason. The guy is just genuinely likable and a badass. His next big film is called ‘Wilson‘ and will premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. ‘Wilson‘ is directed by Craig Johnson (‘Skeleton Twins‘), written by Daniel Clowes (‘Art School Confidential‘, ‘Ghost World‘), and produced by Alexander Payne (‘Election‘, ‘Sideways‘, ‘About Schmidt‘, ‘The Descendants‘, ‘Nebraska‘). Need I say, “HOLY SHIT”, what a cast and crew already. If that weren’t enough, you can add Laura Dern, Judy Greer, and Cheryl Hines to the cast as well. Fox Searchlight now has a trailer and new poster for the film, which looks excellent.

Hi Bryan Here….

“Peter and Lorna, a young Silver Lake couple, delve into the underworld of a cult that meets in the San Fernando valley. At the center of the group is an enigmatic young woman named Maggie who never leaves her basement chamber. The members follow Maggie blindly—growing her food, obsessively sanitizing the house, giving her their own blood for transfusions. But why? We follow Peter and Lorna as they smuggle hidden cameras into Maggie’s basement bent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the members from her spell.”  That is the story of a new film called ‘Sound of My Voice’.

Hi Bryan Here….

‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’ is a film by Wayne Wang who is probably most known for his film ‘The Joy Luck Club’.  Over the years Wang has directed movies such as ‘Smoke’, ‘Because of Winn-Dixie’, and ‘Maid in Manhattan’.  These are a far cry from ‘Joy Luck Club’, ‘A Thousand Years of Good Prayers’ and his most recent ‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’.  I must say I am happy to see Wang return to the Chinese American storylines in his films.  He does this effortlessly.  ‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’ is based on the novel by Lisa See.

Check Out The Trailer for ‘The Sessions’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Based on the poignantly optimistic autobiographical writings of California-based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien, The Sessions tells the story of a man confined to an iron lung who is determined–at age 38–to lose his virginity. With the help of his therapists and the guidance of his priest, he sets out to make his dream a reality.  This film screened at Sundance and was a big hit with the crowds.  It stars John Hawkes, Alan Arkin, William H. Macy, and Helen Hunt.  Ben Lewin served as director.

Hi Bryan Here…

Terrence Malick is one heel of a filmmaker and I am so happy he is busy making films currently.  His next film which is called “Tree of Life” comes out May 27th.  I have been looking forward to that film for quite sometime.  It seems that he has already finished his next film as well which is still untitled at the moment.

Hi Bryan Here…

If you have not had the chance to check out the latest vision from extraordinary director, Terrence Malick, then you should take a couple of minutes and watch the trailer.  The film stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain.  The Tree of Life is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950’s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick’s signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

Click HERE to watch this fantastic trailer.  Cannot wait to see this movie.
