Hi, Bryan Here….

Family-Guy-Simpsons-630x336

Maybe a trick to draw huge ratings, the executives at Fox have announced that in the Fall season of 2014 of the Animation Domination Sunday lineup, ‘Family Guy‘ will feature an episode that will have the Simpsons cast. We are told that the Griffin family will leave their town of Quahog and venture to Springfield, where they will meet Homer Simpson and the rest of the Springfield civilians.

Now I am not a huge fan of Family Guy or The Cleveland Show or American Dad, but some of the jokes in those shows are decent, I just think they are held back by basic cable to show its true potential.

I think Seth McFarlane is a comedic genius though and given the right crew and script, he can come out with something truly amazing.

Well it seems that Seth has been asked to make a hard “R” comedy called Ted.  Ted stands for Teddy Bear.

It is suppose to be a big budget filthy rated “R” comedy about an adult male’s sentient, drug addicted, womanizing Teddy Bear.

They are in talks with Mark Wahlberg to play the lead role.  Which I think is great.  Wahlberg has great comedic timing.

Looking forward to seeing what all comes of this.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Leonardo-Dicaprio-6

Some celebrities use their status to get the best dinner reservations, vacations and all the clothes it would take at least 4 lifetimes to wear. Most of Hollywood’s elite find their own ways to give back to the society that made them household names, Leonardo DiCaprio has found his own way as a philanthropist, by giving a voice to the otherwise voiceless with his riveting and sobering documentaries. This is not the only way Leo gives back though, he serves on the boards of World Wildlife Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council, and International Fund for Animal Welfare, along with spearheading numerous public awareness campaigns and launching  The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. This is clearly a man on a mission that is making his celebrity work for him, not the other way around.

There has already been some talk about a new biopic of sorts based on the life of Scribner’s iconic editor Max Perkins. Perkins worked with such literary notables as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Wolfe and Ernest Hemmingway. In hearing tales of how these respected authors worked, the amount of difficulty friends and family had with some, I can only imagine the set of balls it would take to be the one forced with fact-checking, making corrections and offering changes in whole to the manuscripts. The flip-side of the downfalls to the job is that the editor is allowed to nurture and encourage talent in it’s various forms. This is precisely what Perkins did, and what will pique the curiosity of viewers the world over.

He passed away in 2009, making the Christmas Vacation his last film in the series.  The chain consisting of ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation‘, ‘National Lampoon’s European Vacation‘, follow that up with the holiday staple ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation‘ and finally a last ditch effort to keep the films going with ‘National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation‘. Fox Bringing back King of the Hill?

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Is Fox finally doing something right? They just might be. Over the past few years, the Fox network has been brining back older TV shows and reviving them with mostly the original cast. Now it seems Fox is wanting to revive an actual good show for once with King of the Hill. FILM REVIEW: “THE GREASY STRANGLER”

by Justin Cline on Sep 26th, 2016

Justin C. here,..

Correct me if I’m wrong, but at one time the term “cult film” referred to a movie that failed at the box office during its initial release but eventually found its niche, either through home video release (The Evil Dead) or midnight screenings (The Rocky Horror Picture Show). Nowadays, it seems as if certain filmmakers have grown disinterested in commercial success and are instead targeting that fringe audience they consider underserved by mainstream fare.

Such is the case with The Greasy Strangler. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Ted 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 25th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

04

Who would have thought that Seth MacFarlane’s (creator of ‘Family Guy‘) first feature film about a pot-smoking foul-mouthed teddy bear would have made over $550 million at the box office back in 2012? I certainly didn’t expect it, but it’s the sole reason why we have the sequel to ‘Ted‘, simply titled ‘Ted 2‘. I’ll be honest with you. Macfarlane did a fantastic job with the first film, making an ‘R’ rated comedy with heart and enough laughs that are still memorable today. He even threw in some great cameos and nods to pop culture references, much like ‘Family Guy‘ does.

Hello ladies! Look at your man, now back to me – whoops, sorry about that. As you know, it’s Valentine’s Day once again. And as this overly-commercialized excuse for a holiday rears its ugly head, we take a reflective look back at our lives and at the choices we’ve made concerning our relationships. Some of you will realize that maybe the gap-toothed ex-con biker named “Bubba” might not have been the best choice for a mate (“but he’s a real sweetheart once you get to know him!”). Unfortunately, now you’re “in like Flynn” with his whole clique, and before you know it, you’re drinking homemade moonshine with the rest of his recently released buddies in the middle of backwoods nowhere (if you hear banjos – run). That isn’t to say that everyone makes bad decisions. Some women seem to have a gift for finding the right people to surround themselves with – or have a real knack for how to handle the bad apples that come along – and that can make all the difference between a smooth sailing adventure and a total train wreck experience.

Film Review: ‘A Million Ways To Die In The West’

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

hr_A_Million_Ways_to_Die_in_the_West_2

Seth MacFarlane is back with his second directorial effort with ‘A Million Ways To Die In The West‘. His first film, ‘Ted‘, which was a huge box office success, netting in almost $600 million from a budget of only $50 million, pretty much guaranteed that he would get to make any movie he wanted to in the future. MacFarlane is most known for creating and providing many of the voices for the cartoon shows such as ‘Family Guy‘, ‘The Cleveland Show‘, and ‘American Dad‘. All of which are family oriented shows. But with ‘Ted‘, he took it a couple of steps further and made a solid ‘R’ rated movie with tons of laughs and a decent story.

Seth MacFarlane’s new film has a trailer. His first feature film he directed was ‘Ted‘, and it scored big theatrically and on home-video. It was only a matter of time before the ‘Family Guy‘ creator and voice made his 2nd feature live-action film. ‘A Million Ways To Die in The West‘ synopsis is: Seth MacFarlane plays a hapless farmhand in the Old West who loses his girl (Amanda Seyfried) when he ducks out of a fight, only to be taught to shoot by the wife (Charlize Theron) of a gunfighter (Liam Neeson) in this Media Rights Capitol western comedy. This looks pretty funny, plus it has Neil Patrick Harris in it. The film is set to release May 30th. Enjoy the trailer.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Ted’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 16th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

81eCHHOHKEL._AA1500_

‘Ted’ is hilariously funny.  I didn’t expect it to be as humorous as it was, but I busted a gut from start to finish.  I’m not a huge ‘Family Guy’ fan. so I admit, I was a bit apprehensive to watch a feature film written and directed by Seth MacFarlane.  I was quite surprised as to how warm and witty it was.  After the first 15 minutes or so of seeing an animated teddy-bear come to life, I really didn’t see it as a teddy-bear, but rather an actual person.  MacFarlane captured a genuine and heartwarming film with an ultra raunchy and vulgar kick at every turn.

Seth MacFarlane Will Host the Oscars!!!

Hi, Bryan Here….

The creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show will host the 85th Oscars.  That’s right folks, Seth MacFarlane, the director of the recent film ‘Ted’ will assume hosting duties.  I wonder if this is a ploy to get a younger audience to watch the Oscars, a ploy the  Academy has been trying to do for many years.  Remember that horror montage they did a few years ago at the Oscars, which failed miserably?  Or maybe, they love MacFarlane’s hosting duties on Comedy Central’s Roasts?  Which ever the reason, I expect some inappropriate and funny humor at the Oscars.

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 30th, 2010

50 years ago today, The Flinstones debuted on television.  For a few years after the show debuted, everyone thought it was an animated imitation of “The Honeymooners.”

Not necessarily a kids show, but a cartoon for adults.

The Flintsones paved the way for The Simpsons, Futurama, South Park, Family Guy, and many others.

Some Stone Age Flintstones trivia:

  • “The Flintstones: was the first American animated show to depict two people of the opposite sex (Fred and Wilma; Barney and Betty) sleeping together in one bed.
  • The popular closing credits theme “Meet the Flintstones” did not start until season three.
  • The fact that the Rubbles adopted superstrong Bamm-Bamm (they could not have children on their own) made “The Flintstones” the first animated series in history to address the issue of infertility.

So if you can, watch an episode of The Flintstones today and enjoy.

Film Review: ‘Skyscraper’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 12th, 2018

Summer blockbusters have been a staple for all of us for many years in the movie theater. We can expect, a ton of action, one-liners, witty actors, explosions, feel good endings, and sometimes monsters, zombies, aliens, robots, or a combination of all four. These big summer blockbusters usually lack an award winning story or break-through performances, but it makes up for that in sheer entertainment and high stakes. When you bring in a former charismatic WWE Champion with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to play the “every character from our favorite 80s-90s action movies, you’re gonna get something wild, fun, and nothing short of spectacular, which is why I’m hear to say that ‘Skyscraper‘ is the big budget summer blockbuster you’ve always wanted.

Dan Moran’s Review of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 4th, 2018

Ant-Man & The Wasp is perfectly fine. Its ok. It is certainly a two hour movie in which things happen. I was entertained by things that happened in this movie, that I definitely saw, but I don’t think matter at all. I love Paul Rudd. Evangeline Lily as Wasp is delightful. Michael Pena steals every single scene he is in again. Michael Douglas certainly enjoys his paycheck. Walton Goggins is wasted, but my face lit up every time he spoke. This is without a doubt the best cast of all the solo Marvel films. The problem with the movie is that it was released at the worst possible time to get anyone to care about it.

Film Review: ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 28th, 2018

Sicario: Day of the Soldado is a stunningly topical sequel that almost lives up to the original. I personally had Sicario in my top 3 movies of 2015. The first Sicario is a masterpiece from one of the best writers, Taylor Sheridan, and best directors (Denis Villeneuve) of our time. Sheridan wrote this sequel and has now put together 4 straight incredible crime/western scripts in a row: Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and now Sicario: Day of the Soldado. It is a worthy follow up to the original and one of my favorites of the year.

UPGRADE

Upgrade is an excellent 90 minute Black Mirror episode. If you enjoy action movies or anything sci-fi I suggest checking out this quiet little movie before it leaves theaters. The basic plot is in the near future a guy has his spine severed when he and his wife get attacked by a group of men. After becoming a quadriplegic, he undergoes an experimental procedure that puts an AI chip in his spine. This chip gives him some superhuman abilities and senses which he uses to hunt down his wife’s killers.

4K UHD Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 1!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 7th, 2018

THE SERIES

HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ series is one of the better series to come out in the last 20 years.  Based on the books by George R.R. Martin, which are called ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’, this series adaptation is top notch in every aspect.  If you haven’t seen HBO’s ‘ Game of Thrones’ or read George R.R. Martin’s novels, then I highly suggest you do a few things.  First, purchase this 4K UHD set.  It will be one of the best purchases you will make this year so far.  Second, set your DVR’s to record the last season coming up in a few months.  And third, get the books, because they are truly a great read.  This is one of the best HBO series to have ever been aired and it will sorely be missed when it’s gone.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Molly’s Game’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein)

Do you have a girl crush on Jessica Chastain? Do you have a man crush on Idris Elba? If you have any combination of the two, Molly’s Game is going to make you have all the feels. This is a well done film with all the right players and script that packs a punch. Aaron Sorkin (screenplay and first time director) has taken the novel Molly’s Game and turned it into a film that at a run time of two hours and twenty minutes seems fast paced and doesn’t waste your time. While I know literally nothing about poker, this movie kept me entertained and engaged because the story wasn’t the game-it was the players.

WWE: Braun Strowman Goes to Wrestlemania 34!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 22nd, 2018

With Wrestlemania 34 just a few weeks out, the city of New Orleans is preparing for a tidal wave of wrestling superstars and their many rabid fans of all ages to partake in the cajun food, festivities, and even some good old fashioned wrestling on the grandest stage of them all – Wrestlemania. WWE is quickly stacking the card with matchups leading up to the big day, which I thought would be a good time to discuss some of the wrestler’s storylines and what we can expect on the big day. Enter Braun Strowman.

Film Review: ‘Brewmaster’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 8th, 2018

“Can I get a hell-yeah”, as Stone Cold Steve Austin would yell in the middle of the squared circle with his middle fingers high in the air as he signaled for the tasty, cold brew that he clanked together the cans and poured it down his throat. Even after he did this a million times on live television, the crowd went insane with joy every single time. It’s because of the beer. Universally, people love beer. There’s something sweet about it that brings people together and have a good time. At the turn of the century, beer was kept to big companies, where you’d go to a market that sells or serves beer, and you’d more or less see Miller, Bud, or Coors, with an occasional Shiner on tap.

4K UHD Review: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 26th, 2018

THE FILM

Thor is starring in his third stand-alone film called ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ and brings a much needed change to the character in the best possibly way. Thor now has a fun personality and great comedic timing, mostly due to Chris Hemsworth amazing acting chops here. In addition to that, the film is steeped in a hypnotic, yet hyper-active color scheme that looks like Willy Wonka and Andy Warhol got together and decorated a city. In fact, Wonka’s theme ‘Pure Imagination’ is a song that plays in the film. It’s not all cold and stiff dialogue here anymore with brown or earth toned aliens and robots that Thor has to use his hammer to fight. Everyone and everything is covered in bright primary and pastel colors that creates a breath of fresh air in this stale universe. That’s all thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi for giving his unique vision on this big budget film ($180 million). In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, particularly with Thor, things have been sour and gloomy.

Blu-ray Review: ‘COCO’!

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein.)

If you’re like me, you’ve seen the previews for Coco and thought, what is this movie and how is Disney going to make a movie all about death translate to kids. It didn’t stop me from jumping at the chance to preview the film and now I submit my apologies to Disney and the world that I ever doubted their creative genius. Dan Moran’s ‘Black Panther’ Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 16th, 2018

Admittedly, the easiest narrative for Black Panther reviews is that it is a “game-changer”, “important”, “redefines hero”, etc. Those narratives and feelings aren’t wrong. I think Black Panther is one of Marvel’s best stand-alone hero films. It is right behind The Winter Soldier and the original Iron Man for me. In a few years it may even eclipse those two as the distance and impact it has going forward is felt. I believe the cultural and racial themes of this film are well thought out, focused, bold, and sobering. To be perfectly honest I don’t feel comfortable writing about that aspect of the film in depth. I’m a 32 year old goofy white guy who is not a good enough writer to navigate that territory, plus I lack the experiences that would make my take worth reading. There are some incredible writers who have written on the overall cultural impact of (essentially) an all-black cast superhero film and I encourage all of you to seek those pieces out because they are worth your time. My review is going to focus on just how badass this movie is.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Straight from it’s dynamic debut where it premiered January 21, 2018, at the Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section, comes ‘Hereditary‘ to theaters nation wide June 8th, 2018. It’s a combination drama/mystery/horror film that will make anyone take a second look at their family. The writer director Ari Aster is the man behind this film, both from his pen and his artistic vision that brought the project to fruition. This is Aster’s first feature length film after helming and writing   a handful of short films. With positive reviews coming in, it seems his first attempt at a full length film was a success, at least that’s what the 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes would suggest. I’m sure that’s a relief for PalmStar Media (‘Collateral Beauty‘), Windy Hill Pictures, and A24 (‘Lady Bird‘, ‘The Florida Project‘, ‘The Disaster Artist‘) who were the production companies backing the flick.

Eli Roth (The Bear Jew and director of ‘Cabin Fever‘) has remade the 1974 violent revenge film ‘Death Wish‘. Instead of Charles Bronson, we now have Bruce Willis. This film was originally slated to release in theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday of last year, but the studio decided to push it now to March 2, 2018. The guy behind ‘Narc‘, ‘Smoking Aces‘, and ‘The Grey‘ (Joe Carnahan) has written the screenplay too. I’m sure this movie will be fun with some hardcore carnage and one-liners, or at least – let’s hope. Below is a ton of info about the film and of course the trailer.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

Favorite Movies of 2017!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2017

Was 2017 a great year for movies? Of course it was. There were some excellent films to be released in 2017. There were also some bad ones for sure, but the focus on this article are some of the Best films that stuck with me long after viewing. Most people will give you their Top 10 list, but this is no Top 10, because there are just so many movies that I loved and feel passionate about, that I find it difficult and unpleasing to rank them.

Instead, these are my favorite movies of 2017, which I hope you’ve seen already. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a real treat and I can’t wait for you to see them. Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..

Blu-ray Review: ‘Stronger’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 18th, 2017

THE FILM

The Boston Marathon Bombing was a horrific tragedy that only happened a few years ago, where a bomb went off at the finish line of the big marathon. People died and even more were injured. Amongst those injured was a young guy named Jeff Bauman, who lost both of his legs at that bombing. We’ve seen a number of films that have dealt with terroristic attacks that involve elite military teams or big action sequences. Other films might tackle a group of police officers or a group of people who have to deal with this attack. That’s not the case with this fantastic and melancholy film called ‘Stronger‘.

A Deeper look into the ‘The Holiday’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 21st, 2017

In 2006 a little movie by the name of ‘The Holiday’ was released unto the world from the place where all darkness flows. It now signifies the start of “Holiday Movie Season” for countless women across the globe. I believe it is solely responsible for the Hallmark Channel’s holiday film slate every November-December. However, the imitators don’t even come close to the unique mess this film is. I actually don’t think I’ve seen the movie in one full sitting the past 5 years but it has been in such a rotation in my home that I’ve caught it in enough chunks to have seen it at least 10-12 full times since it came out in 2006. I really want to break down the absurdity of this movie to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

The world of pro-wrestling has been around for many years and has certainly seen its ups and downs, most noticeably being the WWE. There have been many promotions through the decades, which have made a lot of people very successful and it continues to this day. At some point down the road though, there was one company that surpassed everyone by leaps and bounds and brought the pro-wrestling arena into the mainstream. Of course I’m talking about World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), or the artist formally known as World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in its teenage angst years. For a long while, there were two major companies that featured the best of the best in the pro-wrestling world. WWE and WCW. They didn’t play well together at all on and off screen.

Film Review: ‘Mark Felt’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 12th, 2017

Written By: Beka Perlstein

As I watched Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching a movie about modern day politics. I wasn’t around during the Nixon years, so the story itself was intriguing to me, but as the film played I just became increasingly frustrated that history was seemingly repeating itself. Mark Felt was as they said, “the G-Man’s G Man.” He worked for the FBI for 31 years and it’s made clear at the outset of the film that under Hoover, he was the guy that held the key to Pandora’s Box. Felt knew when to talk, when to keep his mouth shut, when to bark and when to bite. Everyone in Washington knew not to cross him for fear of their secrets leaking. But that wasn’t Mark Felt. He. Did. Not. Leak.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The most popular and well-known man in the world was and maybe still is Michael Jackson. He had fans all over the world and inspired not only the common folk, but many great musicians over the past 30 years years. Michael Jackson won tons of awards for his music, produced and created some of the best songs ever made, delivered the best music videos, and started a big charity called Heal the World. His life was in the tabloids constantly with hideous scum people making up stories that forced him to be a recluse for most of his life. He was just a man who became a father to three kids and when he was pushing 50 years old, he was more or less forced to perform 50 concerts as a way to make ends meet and provide for his family. Much has been said over the many years about Michael Jackson.

Film Review: ‘American Assassin’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 15th, 2017

Dan M. here…

You can’t make an action movie like this in 2017 and expect anyone to be impressed with it. Not when studios crank out Bourne, Bond, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, The Raid, etc. Those are movies that execute things at such a high level with passable stories that at least allow you to buy into the character. Hell, even Jack Reacher had some self-awareness to it that made the shrug-worthy, ridiculous, sequel mildly enjoyable. American Assassin is an all-around pretty bad movie but it does have a few bright spots. It honestly felt like the writers watched a Bourne movie, then got high, and played 3 hours of Call of Duty on easy difficulty before putting pen to paper.

Blu-ray Review: ‘First Kill’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 3rd, 2017

THE FILM

In addition to Bruce Willis starring in a ton of mega-budget action films over the years, Willis has also been starring in direct-to-video movies that many of you have never heard of. Three of these films have been directed by a guy named Steven C. Miller, who is in line to direct the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s Escape Plan. Anywho, this film is called ‘First Kill‘ and pits Bruce Willis as the bad guy here, which is something we don’t often see play out in other films. If that comes as spoiler to you, don’t let it, because Miller has a difficult time in playing the con game with his audience.
