THE FILM

The next franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes with mystical and magical powers in ‘Doctor Strange‘, which is a damn good start to this new character. ‘Doctor Strange‘ was created by Steve Ditko and first appeared in Strange Tales #110 back in 1963. ‘Doctor Strange‘ or Stephen Strange is a highly intelligent surgeon who is in the top of his field. In an accident, he loses the use of his hands, which leads him to seek out alternate methods of healing. This brings him to a mystical and magical place across the globe where he meets ‘The Ancient One’ amongst other sorcerers that help him heal spiritually and physically.

More news on Marvel’sDoctor Strange‘ front, this time coming in the form of a new cast member. Rachel McAdams has confirmed that she will star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the upcoming comic-to-film adaptation. We’ve known since 2014 that Cumberbatch was set to lead the story of arrogant neurosurgeon, Stephen Vincent Strange, turned magical sorcerer known only as Dr. Strange.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Benedict-Cumberbatch-as-Khan-in-Star-Trek-Into-Darkness

I’ve got some news about Marvel’s  ‘Doctor Strange‘  feature project that will grace theaters in 2016. In a case of we-should-have-seen-it-coming-casting, America’s favorite British export, Benedict Cumberbatch has the golden trifecta required to anchor a Marvel film. He’s got the slightly chiseled handsome face, and perfected the quality of acting an absolute arrogant but brilliant character and he’s got a deep range to his acting ability that supersedes the first two qualities.

Comic-Con isn’t a place where only huge bombs of information get dropped, it’s also chock-full of fans spreading rumors like the wildfires that all too often consume the San Diego area anyway. Seems like one of the biggest rumors surrounded the potential casting for a Marvel Studios property, ‘Doctor Strange‘. Fans have been dropping names like Tom Hardy, Jared Leto and Benedict Cumberbatch in mass conversations that branched out until at least a few of the names were being taken as gospel truth. I’ve got the answer, kids, and it’s NOT Cumberbatch.

DOCTOR SLEEP – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 6th, 2019

An adult Danny Torrance is still haunted by the ghosts of the Overlook Hotel and his father as he telepathically connects to a young girl who has the shining, but must help save her and defeat a group of inhuman monsters looking to torture and eat their souls in a wonderfully scary sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, titled Doctor Sleep. Again, written by the horror maestro Stephen King, his novel Doctor Sleep is nothing short of thrilling, exciting, and furthers the story and characters of the Torrance family, while introducing a new sect of evil among us. The brilliant filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Haunting of Hill House) utilizes the slow burn of terror, akin to its predecessor to create a sense of horror here, and works effortlessly.

Jana B. here,

Dr. Horrible

If you don’t know who Dr. Horrible is, I’m going to assume you have been living under a rock, on Mars, or in a cave with no sunlight and/or internet access. ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog‘ is a comedy, tragedy, musical….a comtragical? I like that. I officially coin ‘comtragical’ TM pending. The story in 3 separate acts stars gorgeous voices and wonderful voices from Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day.

Spider-Man: Far From Home – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2019

Spider-Man: Far From Home shows that if this is the direction they plan to go after Avengers: Endgame, then be prepared for another 10 years of Marvel dominance. The ease with which this film picks up after the events of Endgame while propelling a single character forward was actually unexpected to me. Maybe I was dumb for doubting Marvel, but I didn’t think that Far From Home would be better than 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it was.

Avengers: Endgame Predictions!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 17th, 2019

We are one week away from the big L.A. premiere of Avengers: Endgame. The embargo on critics reviews will lift shortly after that and the internet will be the wild west of spoilers for two days until the movie is released. I have succesfully avoided spoilers like the plague for Avengers: Endgame. I got off of Twitter last year and deleted Facebook in January (not because of Endgame), so it is very easy to avoid spoilers. I dabble in Reddit for news sometimes but don’t subscribe to any “spoiler” groups, and I still plan to stay offline starting that day in case anything makes the home page. Now even though I am leak and spoiler adverse, I have watched every single trailer and TV spot and spend way too much of my adult time speculating what will happen. I was also in the Wal-Mart toy aisle yesterday and saw the Avengers: Endgame figures so that tipped me off too. So here is what I think will happen based on that…

Film Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 25th, 2018

For the last decade, we’ve been getting to know most of the Marvel super-heroes. In 2008, we met Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when the comic book company Marvel decided to start making their own films with their own company, without the help of any other big studio. It was a massive success, which led to 17 more films that included a ton of more superheroes, including Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For the first few superhero films, we were introduced to their origins and character, which led to the first Avengers films. Needless to say, that first Avengers movie broke box office records at the time and put in motion a story arc that culminates into what we have today – ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘.
