David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor to every Whovian on the planet and Alec Hardy to all the ‘Broadchurch‘ fans is jumping into another proven franchise as he’s climbing the ladder to launch himself into the Marvel Universe pool. The lucky show that is the recipient of this talented, not to mention gorgeous, thespian is ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones‘. Tennant joins Krysten Ritter who will play Jones and Mike Colter who is cast as Luke Cage.

Streetmagic-david blaine

There are certain types of entertainment where you can have several favorites. You can listen to multiple bands that fit into the same genre. But when it comes to performance magic, I believe you’re either a Copperfield or a David Blaine fan. Personally, I’m a David Copperfield girl, not the tortured waif. Yes, the one with the hair and the face. Him. So, I never jumped on the whole David Blaine band wagon. After all, there are only so many ‘David’s’ a girl can love.  While David Tennant takes up most of my space, David Copperfield occupies a portion. Anyhow, as I was saying.

FILM REVIEW: “OPERATION MEKONG”

by Justin Cline on Oct 4th, 2016

operation-mekong_poster_goldposter_com_1

Justin C. here,…

Operation Mekong waits until the final credits roll to inform its audience that the film they’ve just witnessed is based on a true story. I can’t help but feel that this may have been by design as it certainly would have lessened my enjoyment to think that the filmmakers meant for me to believe even for an instant that what I was watching was true.

More than anything else, Mekong is an action movie, but does the element of realism hurt it or help it? Read the rest of this entry »

Get on the Stick with ‘Jessica Jones’!

Wade D., Here…

maxresdefault

Hey everyone! So it may have started as a PG13 movie between us here at Get on the Stick and you, the beautiful reader… but since this is our fourth encounter, it’s time to seal the deal and turn this flick into a XXX extravaganza! Much like A New Hope, this episode 4 is going to be a fan favorite, and as always, will be spoiler free. Finish polishing those lightsabers, pop the corn, dim the lights, and let’s ‘watch Netflix’. The term “Get on the Stick” is all about getting to work, so no more blather… Let’s get to it!

Hillary Thomas’ Top 5 Films and Best TV Shows of 2015!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 29th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

Best2015_660

As a writer for Boomstick Comics, we are charged with going to see a lot of movies. I thought that this past year, I saw quite a few. Apparently, with the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, the movies I saw this past year weren’t all new. There were some that were classic programming at a new venue. What can I say? James Wallace knows that I like (“Sixteen Candles”, “Aliens”, “Big Trouble In Little China”, “True Grit”, and “Conan” just to name a few), but I did see a “Few Good Movies.”

Ever since her short-lived stint as a Super Hero ended in tragedy, ‘Jessica Jones‘ has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic private detective in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing, and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need… especially if they’re willing to cut her a check.

‘Dragonwolf’ Blu-Ray Review!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 20th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

51myx4irw-L

THE FILM

Dragonwolf‘ is a typical martial arts film in a lot of ways. If you want something slightly entertaining with fight scenes, this will do nicely. If you’re hell-bent on seeing quality fights, pick up a Bruce Lee flick. Watching this made me so sad though, I really wanted to like this. The finished product doesn’t even deserve an entry to my ‘Eh’ category. You know what I mean, “Hey ‘Dragonwolf‘ is on, wanna watch it?” “Eh, why not?”

Peter Capaldi Walks Away From ‘Doctor Who’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Apr 1st, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

Benedict-in-Screen-Magazine-04-2013-benedict-cumberbatch-33870098-1280-1549[1]

BBC’sSherlock‘ is one of the best shows currently airing. One of the reasons is the witty banter between characters, another reason is who plays one of those characters, Benedict Cumberbatch. One of the bad things with being a fan of ‘Sherlock‘ is that our viewing season is only 3-4 episodes long, and we have to wait a bloody long time just to get those! We put up with it because the option of not having those few episodes is ultimately, far worse than the waiting.

Hello, Jana here,

Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor that sends fan-girls reeling the world over. He has a quality that is simply irresistible, and film makers have monopolized on his popularity. His big breakthrough came in 2004 with a title role in the TV movie ‘Hawking‘. He worked steadily until he garnered another title role, this time playing the fictional genius, Sherlock Holmes in Steven Moffat’s ‘Sherlock‘. This is the role that marked him as the next big star and made him a household name. He has had his pick of prime acting gigs and his name has been on the tongue of casting directors since then.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead To Be ‘Exposed’?

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 11th, 2014

Hello Jana here,

Mary-Elizabeth-Winstead

If you’re shopping for the cast to be in a pilot of a new series, you can rarely get better than a well-known actor, with a dedicated fan base, to play the lead. This is what director Patty Jenkins was thinking when she courted Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the lead in ABC’s new drama series ‘Exposed‘. Jenkins was the writer and director for the gritty feature ‘Monster‘ that won Charlize Theron a myriad of awards as she portrayed infamous serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

The Weinstein Company has purchased the big screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth from Studiocanal. The heart-breakingly gorgeous Michael Fassbender, younger Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto from X-Men: First Class and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past is cast as the titular Macbeth. Marion Cotillard has signed on to play Lady Macbeth. Cotillard is fairly well known for playing Billie Frechette opposite Johnny Depp’s Dillinger in Public Enemies. She also recently, and most notably, played Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises. I first realized her star power when I saw her Ridley Scott’s A Good Year playing opposite Russell Crowe.

Movie Quotes

[Costello meets with Sullivan in a porno theater, posing as a movie-watcher and suprising him with a black dildo]
Colin Sullivan:
Frank? What the fuck is wrong with you?
Frank Costello:
[laughing] See anything you like, Colin?
Colin Sullivan:
I almost fucking shot you!
Frank Costello:
You're not indulging in self-abuse, are you? I hope you're not turning into one of them sob sisters who wants to get caught. You're not cracking up, are you?
Colin Sullivan:
I don't crack up.
Frank Costello:
Picking a place like this, where any cop can see you. Jesus.
Colin Sullivan:
If it was such a fucking bad idea, why'd you show up?
Frank Costello:
[turning to face Sullivan] I own the place.
Colin Sullivan:
[laughs] Why am I not fucking surprised? Look, I gotta tell you...
Frank Costello:
You're getting re-assigned. I know.
Colin Sullivan:
How the fuck do you know that?
Frank Costello:
Where'd they put you?
Colin Sullivan:
Hey Frank, I gotta find myself.
Frank Costello:
You're telling me, sonny boy.
Colin Sullivan:
I gotta find the guy you got in the department.
Frank Costello:
With everybody looking up their own ass, and you looking for yourself, I'd put my money on nobody finds nothing.
Colin Sullivan:
I know, but Frank - look, for me, you gotta lay low. Right now.
Frank Costello:
Colin, laying low is not what I do.
Colin Sullivan:
Okay, fucking big daddy Frank. Fucking perfect. But what good am I to you if you don't listen to me?
