Jun/2018

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

This is definitely on my radar now. Jeff Bridges and Chris Hemsworth, meaning The Dude and Thor are most likely going to star in a new film called Bad Times at the El Royale, which will be directed by Drew Goddard and released by 20th Century Fox. Despite the awesome two actors and the cool title, filmmaker Drew Goddard is one to watch for sure.

Hi Bryan Here….

Chris Hemsworth other known as Captain Tiberius Kirk or Thor is in final talks to star in ‘Rush’.  He will take on the role of British Formula One driver James Hunt.  The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard with Howard most likely to direct.  The film will most likely follow the story of Hunt’s rivalry with Niki Lauda for Formula One circuit dominance in the 1970s.

Hi Bryan Here….

Marvel and Paramount must have tons of faith in Thor, because it has already been given a sequel and release date.  The date is set for July 26th, 2013, and so far Chris Hemsworth will return to play the Mighty Thor.  No word on if any of the other cast will return.  I’m sure they will.  But director Kenneth Branagh will not be back.  Sources say he declined and it went down mutually and amicably.

4K UHD Review: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 26th, 2018

THE FILM

Thor is starring in his third stand-alone film called ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ and brings a much needed change to the character in the best possibly way. Thor now has a fun personality and great comedic timing, mostly due to Chris Hemsworth amazing acting chops here. In addition to that, the film is steeped in a hypnotic, yet hyper-active color scheme that looks like Willy Wonka and Andy Warhol got together and decorated a city. In fact, Wonka’s theme ‘Pure Imagination’ is a song that plays in the film. It’s not all cold and stiff dialogue here anymore with brown or earth toned aliens and robots that Thor has to use his hammer to fight. Everyone and everything is covered in bright primary and pastel colors that creates a breath of fresh air in this stale universe. That’s all thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi for giving his unique vision on this big budget film ($180 million). In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, particularly with Thor, things have been sour and gloomy.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The Avengers are back and they’ve brought a few friends. The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe  packs the star-power in like gunpowder to a bomb making it ready to ignite a powder keg of awesome to kick off the summer. The usual suspects have all returned, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., and Jeremy Renner. But there is room for more awesome, and we get it with the addition of Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, and Zoe Saldana from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and far too many to mention to round out one kick-ass movie, or at least that’s what the trailer leads us to expect. We can’t forget to mention that Josh Brolin’s Thanos is back and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, the Infinity Stones.

Film Review #2: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 4th, 2017

Taika Waititi legitimately reinvigorated  the marvel brand with Thor: Ragnarok. A lot of the criticism that Marvel movies get is that there are no stakes and we know that the heroes will always win. No kidding? That’s every superhero movie. No one thought Iron Man would die, no one thought Cap would die, no one thought Batman was dead in TDKR, no one thought (cared?) Superman died in BvS. Waititi proves that not taking a paint by numbers destroy the world story too seriously can be a damn blast.

Film Review: ‘Ghostbusters’ (2016)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

ghostbusters-2016-cast-proton-packs-images

Paul Feig certainly has quite the resume. This writer/director/producer has recently made some of the funnier films, including ‘Bridesmaids‘, ‘The Heat‘, ‘Spy‘, and let’s not forget the hit TV series ‘Freaks and Geeks‘. Feig knows comedy and how to cast his roles perfectly. Each one of those films and a tv show are spot on hilarious with charm and heart. This same filmmaker has pretty much done the impossible, which is revamp the iconic 1980’s film ‘Ghostbusters’. Even before the first trailer for the movie debuted online, there was a sea of online people who trashed the film even before seeing one single frame of the film. It became a whole thing where sexism became one of the issues here.

Film Review: ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’!!

by Janet White on Apr 23rd, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Huntsman

Let’s say just say it…Snow White and the Huntsman was not well done. The Huntsman: Winter’s War is the hot and cold shell that envelops its predecessor.  It’s not perfect, but is action enjoyment coupled with corny sporadic humor.  Not to mention, Chris Hemsworth finally got his balls back.  I can tell you that.  Snow White and the Huntsman emasculated the action-packed hunk of man that is Hemsworth.  Though some believe that this story should not have been told, but I enjoyed the unveiling of the back-backstory.  The film could have been structured to be less predictable but sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy a film for your base needs: adrenaline, fear, and desire.

If you didn’t come up with ‘Ghostbusters‘ after that sentence, you need to reboot your life to a time where it’s acceptable for you to pop your Ghostbusting cherry and get on it and may Harold Ramis have mercy on your soul. Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Pre-movie hype, post-movie discussion, and the random hours I spent thinking about it in the shower or sitting at a stop-light. Having said that, this is my list of movies that 2015 blessed us with, and maybe a few the year cursed us with.

This film follows Clark’s son Rusty (Ed Helms) and his wife (Christina Applegate), and their two kids as they embark on a road trip to Wally World. Rusty tells his family that it was the best time in his life and he wants hi own family to experience the fun and adventure of a family cross-country road trip. While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!

Film Review: ‘Thor: The Dark World’!!!

Hi, Bryan Here….

Thor-2_2709663b

And we’re back with the first non-Iron-Man sequel in the Marvel universe with ‘Thor: The Dark World‘, with the entire cast back ready for more saving the universe and defeating evil. However, this time around, the sequel felt uneasy and a little bit off, as it dragged in the mid-section quite a bit, or when Tom Hiddleston’s Loki (Thor’s adopted brother) is not on screen. Sure, the main event is Thor himself (Chris Hemsworth), but he seems to take a back seat for most of the film, as the co-stars really drive this movie as Thor smashes his hammer from foe to foe.

Film Review: ‘Red Dawn’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 19th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I admit, I was a bit apprehensive heading into watching this remake of the 1984 action film that starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Harry Dean Stanton, and Jennifer Grey.  The 80’s film was a big hit and is still good today. John Milius ,the director of the original film, made an imprint on the minds of the youth back then with a ‘what if’ scenario and a heck of a fun film.  This remake, while it is certainly very cheesy and awkwardly bad in tiny moments, the overall picture is a fine and worth-while remake despite its many faults.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joss Whedon’s Avengers is what every comic book geek and action film fanatic has dreamed of since they were a little kid.  Not only was it one of the most epic films ever shot on film, but Whedon used his wit and unique story telling to weave these iconic characters into a team that destroys evil.  You see, it’s not all about the people who form a team and save our planet.  It’s about a group of people from different times and different worlds, who necessarily don’t belong together, but realize that by teaming up, they form something bigger than themselves.  And notice that I don’t use the term superhero.  None of the Avengers refer to themselves or think of themselves as heroes, with the exception of Captain America, who really is the only hero in the story.

Bryan Journeys Into Mystery With “Thor”!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on May 8th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

The Almighty Thor is finally here.  Marvel’s next feature film in their line of super-hero films revving up for the huge epic “Avengers” film may surprise you.  Thor is great.  It’s very different from the past Marvel films, but different is very good.  Especially for a hero like Thor.  What makes Thor different from the other Marvel Super-Heroes in films is that Thor is not from Earth nor is he really a human.  He is a GOD.  And when I think of Thor my brain usually goes to the Greek Mythology place and to that Shakespearean universe.  So it was only too perfect that Shakespearean vet, Kenneth Branagh would be the director for this epic film of Thor.

Film Review: ‘Vacation’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 27th, 2015
