Hillary Thomas’ Top 5 Films and Best TV Shows of 2015!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 29th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

Best2015_660

As a writer for Boomstick Comics, we are charged with going to see a lot of movies. I thought that this past year, I saw quite a few. Apparently, with the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, the movies I saw this past year weren’t all new. There were some that were classic programming at a new venue. What can I say? James Wallace knows that I like (“Sixteen Candles”, “Aliens”, “Big Trouble In Little China”, “True Grit”, and “Conan” just to name a few), but I did see a “Few Good Movies.”

Hey guys, Jana here,

Castle Films will be releasing ‘Blood Dynasty‘ the third in  Chris Alexander’s “Irina” vampire film cycle on October 31, 2017. The series began with 2012’s award winning ‘Blood for Irina‘ and continued in 2014’s ‘Queen of Blood‘. The film features a cast of upcoming talented actors including Shauna Henry, Cheryl Singleton, Holly Riot, and Andre Becker. The character of Irina – inspired in part by Lina Romay’s character in Spanish filmmaker Jess Franco’s Female Vampire – is once more reborn, rising from the sea to bring madness and bloodlust to a lonely young woman living in a decaying motel.

It will be the year 2018 in a couple short months, which bring in the New Year with tons of optimism, new slates, blossoming relationships, low-carb diets, and tons of new, exciting movies. Speaking of movies, Criterion has unveiled the first films they will release for 2018, starting in January, which looks like it’s gonna be BADASS! I mean, are we really getting ‘The Breakfast Club’ on Criterion? YES, yes we are. Does that mean we will get more John Hughes’ films in the future? Let’s hope so. Below you can read about each release.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

This movie sounds like so much fun and a little like that 1980’s horror film by Lamberto Bava called Demons, which followed a bunch of people attending a movie screening of a horror film, only to find out that there was an evil force that turned them into blood thirsty demons. This new film though is called Blood Fest and comes from the Rooster Teeth team, which brought us Red vs Blue and Lazer Team.

Film Review: The Hunter’s Prayer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 7th, 2017

Dan M., here….

the-hunters-prayer-trailer-one-001

The Hunter’s Prayer is the best network TV pilot for a show that will run out of ideas and suck by season 2 that I’ve seen in awhile. It’s full of clichés, caricatures, and familiar twists for any thriller genre. If someone took Taken, The Professional, Cobra, Jack Reacher, & Jason Bourne (the bad one), put them in a blender, and then strained it to remove all the good healthy stuff from those movies, you’d have The Hunter’s Prayer. All that said, I didn’t check my phone during it, so I guess I’m the sucker.

Film Review #2 ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2017

Dan M., here….

maxresdefault

I realize that I am late on this one. I was out of town when it came out and frankly, there were just higher movies on the list I needed to see. Well I got to see King Arthur: Legend of the Sword finally and let me tell you… it is really good. Out of every summer movie this year that I have seen, including Fate of the Furious and Guardians Vol. 2, I left the theater thinking about a sequel to King Arthur the most.

Film Review: ‘The BFG’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

maxresdefault

I’m just thankful that Steven Spielberg is not doing awful period pieces like his last films, including ‘Lincoln‘, ‘War Horse‘, and ‘Bridge of Spies‘. Yes, those films won Oscars, but I’m willing to bet you’ve only seen the once and will never see them again. I’m thankful and excited that Spielberg has returned, at least for a few films into his magical world of sci-fi, which he excels at. This time around, Spielberg is tackling the children’s story of ‘The BFG‘ or ‘Big Friendly Giant’, by the great author Roald Dahl (‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘, ‘Matilda‘, ‘James and the Giant Peach‘, and ‘The Witches‘).

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Pre-movie hype, post-movie discussion, and the random hours I spent thinking about it in the shower or sitting at a stop-light. Having said that, this is my list of movies that 2015 blessed us with, and maybe a few the year cursed us with.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Miyazaki_BoxSet2015_BeautyShot_NoTAGS_FIN.indd

Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author and manga artist. His career has traveled five decades and he has attained international acclaim as a masterful storyteller and as a maker of anime feature films. Hey guys, Jana here, f9ae8-ian-mckellen-cigarette

Disney is right in the middle of their latest trend in film. Taking their own smash animated stories and flipping them around, re-working them into live-action films providing double the bank off a single story. If you’re talking box office success, they’re mega-hits, if you’re looking at critically, they’ve missed the end zone more than they’ve scored. Next up for the family studio is ‘Beauty and the Beast‘.

2015 Disney Film Release Dates With Trailers!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

star-wars-disney-570x307

While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!

Hey guys, Jana here,

Cameron Crowe has a background steeped in music and on occasion, he pulls that background to the forefront and weaves it into the tapestry of a new project in a skillful way. One of his premiere films, ‘Almost Famous‘ gave us an inside peek at what it would be like to be hired by none other than Rolling Stone to go on tour with a rock band and experience the highs and lows of it all. With groupies, drugs, sex and of course, rock and roll, there is more than enough fodder to inspire writing of all kinds.

Film Review: “Dracula Untold”!!

by Woozie on Oct 9th, 2014

Hi, Suzanne here…

Luke-Evans-in-Dracula-Untold

We all know the basic story of Count Dracula as told by Bram Stoker, but in Dracula Untold, director Gary Shore aims to provide further insight into the reasons a man would choose to be evil. In spite of the big budget that went into creating this film, the movie falls short of that goal and even the scare we come to expect from vampire films.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Disney_Castle_Disney_Logo

Disney has made a name for itself with family-friendly entertainment. It’s got a logo that any toddler recognizes and parents can guarantee that if it’s bearing the Disney name it’s a safe bet that at least someone in the family will love it. I’m not saying Disney is getting stale, they are having to work harder than ever now to remain atop the family pyramid of entertainment since there are so many other contenders in that category now.

Hi, Bryan Here…

 215748-the_wind_rises-big-4

Hayao Miyazaki’s new film is finally coming to the USA. It’s been doing very well over in Japan over the past month. So well in fact that it is has retained the number one film for the past four weeks. Now, the film will debut in America at the Toronto Film Festival next month. Miyazaki is one hell of a director who has given us ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, and ‘Spirited Away’ to name a few.
