A Little Evil is coming to Netflix!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
Netflix is releasing a new film called Little Evil from writer/director Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) that is a comedy-horror about a loving family of three. Well, maybe not loving, but more like the actual Antichrist. This looks like a lot of fun and has quite a good cast. If this is anything like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, then we are in for an entertaining ride for sure. Enjoy the trailer below. Also, I must point out how eerily similar the boy in the poster above looks like a cross between Angus Young from AC/DC and Damien from The Omen. I can’t wait.
DIFF 2014 Film Review: ‘Little Accidents’!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
‘Little Accidents‘ seems anything but little, with the exception of the tiny town this all takes place in. Director Sara Colangelo takes control of a stellar cast in this unsmiling drama about two major events in a small coal mining town. Colangelo does a great job in not jumping on cliches, and letting her characters be true to themselves, but often throughout the film, there are several circumstances and characters that don’t get to earn their keep. Colangelo did say she had a three hour film with this, but was cut down to under two hours. I think the three hour cut would have been perfect, but I expect good word of mouth of avid film fans to recommend this one, despite some of its clunky execution.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.
For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films Will Adapt Vampire Drama ‘Cuddles’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Nicole Kidman’s production company, Blossom Films, has secured film rights to an Off-Broadway drama. It gets weird when you know it’s subject matter is vampires and the title is ‘Cuddles‘. Say what?!
Blu-ray Review: ‘Cook Off!’
THE FILM
There might be a few hundred reality shows based on cooking competitions. Some involve chefs, while others involve children trying to cook five star meals. It’s all terrible. More than 10 years ago, a woman named Cathryn Michon made a film in the style of a Christopher Guest Mockumentary (Best in Show), called ‘Cook Off!‘, which showed us some whacky characters in a cooking competition. Again, this film was made more than 10 years ago and has been sitting on a shelf for the right time. Turns out, it was never the right time and for some reason, we have this horrible movie in front of us.
4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!
THE FILM
The threats of terrorism, war, chaos, and financial ruin are all too real these days. ’The Dark Knight Rises’ dives into these issues on a massive scale, which makes any film in the Marvel universe look like mere “child’s play” (no reference to a knife-wielding murderous doll). Compared with the other Batman movies, everything is bigger in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and there is so much more at stake. Not one second of this film is wasted, the writing and direction is straight to the point, cohesive, and comes across as totally fulfilling in its 164 minute run-time.
Favorite Movies of 2017!
Was 2017 a great year for movies? Of course it was. There were some excellent films to be released in 2017. There were also some bad ones for sure, but the focus on this article are some of the Best films that stuck with me long after viewing. Most people will give you their Top 10 list, but this is no Top 10, because there are just so many movies that I loved and feel passionate about, that I find it difficult and unpleasing to rank them.
Instead, these are my favorite movies of 2017, which I hope you’ve seen already. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a real treat and I can’t wait for you to see them. Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..
4K UHD Review: ‘Dunkirk’!
THE FILM
There’s never been a war film like ‘Dunkirk‘, which I’d say is a masterpiece in filmmaking, lead by Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy). Even though Dunkirk cost $150 million to make, you really wouldn’t know it, as it’s simplistic, yet grand view of the Battle and Evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 is perfectly captured here. Dunkirk is why we still go to the movies. It’s one of the most intense movies I’ve ever seen and is one of the reasons to get out and see it in IMAX. Other war films try add sweeping music to add an emotional effect or certain camera angles to drum up more dramatic suspense.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7!
THE FILM
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 is the best season yet of one of the best television series ever made. In this season, all that we have been waiting for is coming to fruition, since this is basically the 1st part of the last season of the show on HBO. All of the big battles are coming together, characters are finally in the same room now, and those dragons are finally able to do what they were meant to do. It’s so much fun to watch.

Film Review: Motherland!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
In the city of Manila, which is the capital of the Philippines and is considered the most densely populated place on Earth, there is a maternity hospital called Fabella that is said to be the busiest maternity ward in the entire world. That brings us to the documentary Motherland, directed by Ramona S. Diaz. This hospital delivers between 60-100 babies daily as the mothers share a bed with others and their respective newborns. Fabella is a public hospital for women and families who have very little to no money, but help with delivery, surgical procedures, and other forms of care for this explosion of babies every day.
Top 10 Game of Thrones Episodes Thus Far!

Favorite Movie Scene of the Day #3!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
I love Woody Allen movies and I imagine there will be quite a number of scenes in this column from his films. The first one comes from Annie Hall though. This scene just speaks to me so much and I think it’s a perfect capture of two people who were once in love, but still want to be in each other’s lives, even if it can be a bit awkward. Finding something to talk about to pass the uncomfortable time, or seeing new things in your former significant other’s place that make you question what new things they’re into now that you’re gone is delightfully funny to watch.
Blu-ray Review: T2 Trainspotting!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
THE FILM
We all got glassed twenty years ago with Danny Boyle’s ‘Trainspotting‘ movie, and we stuck around for two decades to find out which cunts would come back. Luckily, everyone came back for ‘T2 Trainspotting‘, because this sequel is highly entertaining and has some heart beneath all of the scams, drugs, and violence. Some 20 years later, Renton (Ewan McGregor) is back in Edinburgh after hiding out in Amsterdam from the events of the first film. He runs into Spud (Ewen Bremner) who is still addicted to heroine and is not in a good place. The two eventually meet up with Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), who now owns a run-down pub.

Film Review #2: ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2017)!
Dan M., here….
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991) is in the top 2 Disney animated movies of all-time. I’ll only allow The Lion King, which has a live action version due in 2019 or 2020, to be ranked ahead of it. This isn’t a debate. These are facts. Beauty and the Beast (animated) is a masterpiece from songs to characters, which is why I loved that this new live-action movie stayed so true to the animated version. It was an extremely enjoyable two hours with some really great moments and I look forward to seeing it again.
Blu-ray Announcement and Pre-Order: ‘Moana’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
Official Release: Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana,” the sweeping story of a spirited teenager who sets sail on a daring adventure to save her people, starring newcomer Auli‘i Cravalho as the voice of brave and tenacious Moana and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (HBO’s “Ballers,” “Central Intelligence”) as the larger-than-life demigod Maui, has dazzled both critics and audiences. The film earned a 95% critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes and the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office opening weekend. Now, “Moana” sets a new course, arriving to homes on Digital HD/3D and Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) on Feb. 21, and on Blu-ray 3D™, Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand on March 7.
Film Review: ‘Go North’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
Documentary filmmaker Matt Ogens brings his narrative screenplay to life with ‘Go North‘, which is a post-apocalyptic story with kids. Of course, we’ve seen this genre and story play out time and time again over the past several years with tons of young adult movies that involve kids in a ravaged post apocalyptic scenario. These films all run together, because they are in fact all the same movie with different titles and character names. ‘Go North‘ breaks the mold in one certain aspect, in that it doesn’t take place in a largely dilapidated big city scape in the future with hundreds of millions of dollars going to dumb CGI effects or any big over-the-top action sequences that may involve monsters, robots, zombies, or any combination of the three. Instead, this is a fairly low budget film with none of the above, which is a breath of fresh air in this over-saturated genre.
Getting Deep with ‘Gods of Egypt’!!
Jennifer S., here….
Firstly, this is my first real blog post; inspired by the fact that I finally got to view Gods of Egypt. This was, like many Egyptian Mythology based movies were, a movie that I was looking forward to finally viewing. I’m uncertain as to why I decided this was the topic I wanted to delve back into writing for, but here it is. I feel two ways about it. I’m going to express initially that I enjoyed it from an objective standpoint, it was fun and colorful and full of some interesting effect that got them right as often as they got them wrong… Giant Heads… #BobbleGods. Now I’m going to express my displeasure, as anyone who has a passing interest in actual mythology realizes, it’s terrible. The story is anyway, but the plotline is okay… and personally, I feel the message was all wrong about the afterworld.
Film Review: ‘Operation Avalanche’!!
Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…
This is for all you conspiracy nuts out there. The trio of Matt Johnson, Owen Williams, and Josh Boles brings you a big historical “What if?” Did Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins really land on the moon? Operation Avalanche (still don’t understand the code name) presents an almost convincing counter to the history books. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re a millennial kid, or later, this is a pre-requisite in understanding what was so wonderful about 80’s horror movies.

This live-action remake of ‘Pete’s Dragon‘ looks fantastic in all the right ways. It’s like Spielberg was a part of it. Film Review: ’10 Cloverfield Lane’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
Has it really been 8 years since we saw New York destroyed in ‘Cloverfield‘, which was the “found footage” film produced by J.J. Abrams about a giant monster in NYC. That film was highly secretive before it came out, and nobody really knew anything about it, but it did well at the box office and there was a lot of talk of a sequel for a number of years. A couple of years ago, things started popping up on sites that said “Untitled J.J. Abrams” project, and as of a couple of months ago, we got the first glimpse of a trailer called ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘, produced by Abrams again and directed by first time feature director Dan Tratchenberg (Portal short). The studio and Abrams himself said that this was not a direct sequel to 2008’s ‘Cloverfield‘, but it was a blood relative or spiritual successor to it, because where do you really go from the end of ‘Cloverfield‘?

There’s only one thing missing in his life: his little brother, Sebastian.
‘Sesame Street’ Is Coming To HBO In 5-Year Deal!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
♪♫ Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? ♪♫ The directions to that particular ear-worm’s location is going to take a slight detour from here on out. You can still tune in to PBS for your fix of Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch along with a side of the alphabet song, if you’re feeling rusty, but that hit will be available on another unlikely network, as well, HBO.
Film Review: ‘Do I Sound Gay?’!!
Paul N., Here…
You’ve read the title of this film and its review, so go ahead, get your snickering and jokes out of the way now; I’ll wait. Feeling better? Good. Now we can begin a serious discussion. The idea that a specific style of speech is exclusive to homosexual males is an interesting one that deserves at least a glimpse.
Writer-director-star, David Thorpe crafts a “personal documentary” style film in an attempt to answer the mystery behind the gay male voice. Pulling primarily from his own personal experiences, he weaves together personal anecdotes, historical references, and numerous testimonials with the grace and skill of a much more seasoned filmmaker; especially when one considers that this is his cinematic debut.
Here’s a Cheat Sheet For ‘Old Man Logan’ – SPOILERS!!!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
San Diego Comic-Con is all I’ve been talking about the last week, and with good reason! The epic trailers, the cast surprises, the tidbits of info that have been, previously, safely guarded. This week gives us a fantastic peek into the next year or two of film and gets us stoked for those release dates. One of the most exciting bits of information came from Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman. He gave us three words that sent fans everywhere into a frenzied sort of glee as to what ‘Wolverine 3‘ could entail, myself included, those words were “Old. Man. Logan.” Boom!

Film Review: ‘Inside Out’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
I’m a huge fan of Pixar and their animated films. They have changed the way films are made, and each movie since ‘Toy Story 1‘ in 1995 has been a success both critically and financially, making Pixar one of the biggest movie studios ever. Hell, all of the Pixar films combined have made over $9 billion (with a “B”) at the box office. That’s not to mention home video or merchandising sales. Since ‘Toy Story III‘ in 2010, there has only been three Pixar movies, all of which have been less favorited to Pixar’s previous films including ‘Wall-E‘, ‘Up‘, and the third ‘Toy Story‘ movie.
Season 1 of ‘Gotham’ Coming To DVD and Blu-Ray!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Following the current trend of superhero antics on the big and small screens, Warner Bros. stepped up their game by offering ‘Gotham‘, an intimate look at James Gordon before Batman, covering his rise to power in the Gotham police force. Circle September 8 on your calendar, then get ready to relive a series that is sans the bat, but not without the boy, Bruce Wayne. I was skeptical of the success the series would have by benching the caped crusader who is instantly recalled when most hear the name ‘Gotham‘, but season 1 has proven the city is big enough for all variety of heroes and villains.

Film Review: ‘Black Souls’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
I must admit, I’m a sucker for Italian mafia movies. Maybe it’s because part of my family actually hails from Sicily and I’ve heard tons of stories, which I still can’t tell are true or not. The truth is though, we all know that Italy has more than a handful of crime families still operating and doing “business”. Needless to say, there is probably enough material and trues stories to keep making Italian mafia films well into the next century. But I must warn you, if you’re looking for something as violent and fun as ‘The Godfather‘ or ‘Goodfellas‘, this little film called ‘Black Souls‘ might disappoint, however it shouldn’t.

A family has a mother, father, and maybe children, a standard definition of a family. A family is a group of people who are related to each other, yet another definition. Nowhere in either definition is a mention of color, right? Since the beginning of time families have blended nationality, ethnicity, and race. This fact doesn’t make the families any less bound.

Good things always come to those who wait, and the last RAW of 2014 was a VERY good thing. WWE Hall of Famer, Edge, and his BFF the Charismatic Superstar, Christian, were the guest hosts to ring out the year for those with the benefit of flash photography. The evening totally reeked of awesomeness as we saw champions fighting champions, championships on the line, long anticipated debuts and prayed for returns. It was an historic night. So let’s get this party started and see what the final RAW of the year had in store for the WWE Universe!
WWE: Tribute to the Troops 2014!!
Angi S., Here…
Once a year, the WWE dedicates one of its shows to the United States Armed Forces. It is a chance for the Superstars to show their gratitude and respect to the men and women who put their lives on the line and make the sacrifices that allow us to enjoy the freedoms that we do. It was a night filled with laughs, excitement, surprise returns and great music provided by Florida Georgia Line. The evening belonged to the men and women in the US Military. So let’s dive on into the night that World Wrestling Entertainment says THANK YOU to the exceptional men and women who are our heroes!
WWE: Raw Review December 15th, 2014!!
Angi S., Here…
Just 24 hours after the TLC (and Stairs) pay per view, RAW IS JERICHO! In Detroit, MI, the WWE Universe is ready to witness the Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah as interim General Manager and do his best to manage the chaos that has become the WWE’s flagship program in the absence of the Authority. The night promised to be intense as the fall out of the previous evening was hanging over the arena (looking oddly like a steel cage). How would the Best in the World at What He Does fair with such a daunting task? Let’s find out as I give my thoughts and opinions on WWE’s Dec. 15th edition of RAW!
WWE: TLC 2014 Review!!
Angi S., Here…
Oh My! It was complete chaos last night for the WWE’s Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Pay Per View. This year we also got to see the debut of a Stairs match, effectively changing the name of this fun ppv to Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (and Stairs). I have been chomping at the bit for the weeks leading up to this one and the main roster had a lot to live up to following the developmental brands NXT Takeover: R Evolution. What worked? What didn’t? Who grabbed the brass ring and who needs to be smacked up side the head with it? How was my heart broken yet AGAIN?! All this and more as I break down what happened at WWE’s TLC(S) PPV.
Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.
And the 2014 Golden Globes Nominations Are….
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
It is time for the 2014 Golden Globe nominations. The 72nd Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, Jan. 11 and broadcast live at 5 PM PST, 8 PM EST on NBC. It looks like there were quite a few films that were overlooked. What do you think?
Fan Days 2014: A Look inside The Show!!
Hey everyone! Your favorite multitasking, costumed wunderkind here…
Prepare yourselves, for I have an excellent look back at Dallas Comic Con’s own Fandays, from October 17th-19th. First I would like to apologize for the delay in reporting, but you know, Halloween isn’t just one day. It’s a month long celebration of costumes and shenanigans, as well as my favorite time of year. Dallas Comic Con’s Fandays fell on the third weekend in October this year. The date was perfect for prime costuming parades as it fell so close to Halloween, many costumed attendees were ready for both events.
Film Review: ‘The Maze Runner’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
To end the summer and start the fall season, we have yet another Young Adult film adaptation from James Dashner’s book series called ‘The Maze- Runner‘. Like the young adult movies to come out before this one such as ‘The Giver‘, ‘Divergent‘, and even ‘The Hunger Games‘, it all takes place in the a futuristic society where Earth is mostly in ruins. And there is one person who might be able to set things straight and save a bunch people and bring peace. ‘The Maze-Runner‘ is no different when it comes to these plot points.
Film Review: ‘The Guest’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
Filmmakers Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett have struck gold again. They pleased critics and genre fans alike with last year’s slaughter fest ‘You’re Next‘ and made great entries into the ‘V/H/S‘ franchise. Their new film ‘The Guest‘, which Wingard directed and Barrett wrote, is one of the most entertaining films of the year. Not only that, but Wingard and Barrett single handedly revitalized the horror genre with this movie. It’s a hit to the nostalgic testicles that will make you fall to your knees and yell for joy.
‘Ant-Man’ Begins Production and Fills Out Cast!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Today marks the beginning of filming for Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’. It has been a winding road getting to this point though. There has been a change in director and the loss of 3 cast-members due to scheduling issues because of delays. Some of us probably thought it would be a miracle of Marvel proportions if it were to ever make it to the big screen. Some of the reason for doubt stems from the fact that original director Edgar Wright had been working on bringing the 2D superhero to life since 2006 with very limited success.
Top 10 List of Reboots We Don’t Want To See!!
Paul N., Here…
Like Bill Murray once said, “he’s got to be stopped. And I have to stop him.” You might have thought he was talking about a weather-predicting rodent, but no, he was actually talking about studio executives (the “he” is collective). Hollywood, like any business, is in it to make money. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they choose to rehash tried and true film formulas over and over again rather than take a chance on something new. While this is understandable (albeit infuriating), it doesn’t excuse the idea that EVERYTHING deserves to be re-made. Some films, like priceless art, should never be re-made and re-sold. Every time a classic film gets re-made, audiences hold their collective breaths and hope that it won’t be a straight shot in “the feels” (that nostalgic part of your brain that remembers, with fondness, all your pop culture favorites).
Michael “explosion” Bay is releasing his latest bastardization of 80’s culture unto the world in the shape of the beloved “heroes in a half shell”. In case you haven’t been following, this has been one cluster mess after another. From alien origins to white-washed villains, this movie begs the questions: “does Michael Bay hate the 80’s? Did he have some traumatically horrific experience with toys when he was a kid? Why does he have to take a giant dump on our collective fond memories time after time?” Read the rest of this entry »
Film Review: ‘Boyhood’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
If you’re unfamiliar with the name Richard Linklater, then you’re in for a real treat. Linklater is a Texas filmmaker who is known for making iconic movies in and around Austin and Dallas, Texas. His films include ‘Slacker‘, ‘School of Rock‘, the ‘Before‘ series, ‘Bernie‘, and the iconic and legendary piece of cinema ‘Dazed and Confused‘. But nothing could have prepared us for his newest film called ‘Boyhood‘, which is a cinematic milestone and achievement and something that will be talked about and praised for many years to come.
Stage Review: ‘Once’!!
Hello, Jana here,
I was fortunate enough to see the Broadway tour of ‘Once’. This show was a little different than other Broadway shows I’ve seen in several ways. I love live music. Always have, always will. ‘Once’ gave the viewer an amazing performance by featuring actors who were also musicians. They not only sang the hauntingly beautiful songs this show is known for, but they played instruments at the same time. There was no gaggle of musicians in the orchestra pit, the actors were the orchestra, some playing as many as 4-5 instruments overall.
DIFF: The 2014 Dallas International Film Festival Full Movie Lineup Announced!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
The Dallas International Film Festival for 2014 has just announced its full lineup of movies. Last week, we brought you the first ten films that were announced, and if that was any clue on how cool the movies will be this year, it only gets better. It looks like there are some amazing selections this year, films that I’ve been hearing about for quite some time, and am glad to have them in Dallas. Below you will find all the info you want to know about each movie, documentary, short, and cult film that will be showing. And don’t forget, you can purchase your tickets HERE for the festival!!
‘Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’ Is Gearing Up For A Sequel!!
Jana B. here,
If you don’t know who Dr. Horrible is, I’m going to assume you have been living under a rock, on Mars, or in a cave with no sunlight and/or internet access. ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog‘ is a comedy, tragedy, musical….a comtragical? I like that. I officially coin ‘comtragical’ TM pending. The story in 3 separate acts stars gorgeous voices and wonderful voices from Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day.
Paramount Making Film on Benghazi Attack Based on Unreleased Book!!
Jana B. here,
How do we know what took place when we were not there to witness an event? We wait for the movie to come out. The more common way is we wait for the book to come out, then someone writes a movie based off the actual events. Historical movies make big money so it’s not surprising that a book describing the first hand account of the Benghazi attack is in the works. It’s also not surprising that Paramount is already negotiating to purchase film rights to the book that hasn’t even been released, yet.
Film Review: ’12 Years A Slave’
Hi, Bryan Here….
There have been many films about slavery and the Civil War over the years. Only a couple have been good, and those have featured a big war in the storyline. But as far as a story strictly on slavery goes, the film count doesn’t have a lot of marks for great movies. With the exception of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’, which was more a fantasy and revenge flick on slavery, british director Steve McQueen’s ’12 Years A Slave’ is a phenomenal film from top to bottom, yet it’s extremely rough to watch in certain parts due to the emotional content of the story. Chiwetel Ejiofor leads an all-star cast in one of the finest films in recent memory. One we won’t soon forget and will discuss with friends, families, strangers, and others for months to come.
‘The Walking Dead’ Season 4 Recap – Episode 1 ‘30 Days Without An Accident’!!
Misty S., Here…
Season 4 of the “The Walking Dead” takes place in the 7-8 months in the future. You see a community has begun within the prison. Rick has now taken in more people than just the ones from Woodbury. There is now a high council in place with Rick, Daryl, Carol, Sasha and Hershel on it. You can see how everybody has fallen into new roles within the prison community and grown as almost celebrities in the zombie apocalypse. There is a calm with the chaos of the world that they live in.
Misty S. Delivers Her Thoughts On ‘Grown Ups 2’!!!
Misty S., Here….
Adam Sandler, the founder of Happy Madison films, has used the same formula for every movie that he has ever done. He took some of his unknown buddies that have all started in his first movie “Billy Madison” and every movie since, combined with his ‘Saturday Night Live‘ buddies and throws in some big guest appearances for added entertainment to create a comedic movie that all will love and flock to go see in the theaters. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. This time, though, it did better than I expected it to. ‘Grown Ups 2‘, the obvious sequel to ‘Grown Ups‘, came and delivered, even with all the press and hype to it. This movie is not really a sequel since it can be watched without seeing the first one, but when one does not know what to call a “sequel”, just add a #2 to it. Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock and Kevin James have the chemistry and natural banter, like they had in the first one, that makes the movie ebb and flow without hardly any slow or unfunny scenes to sit through. There are, however, the same jokes that you see in all of the Happy Madison films and even on ‘Saturday Night Live‘. This is the type of film that when you walk into it, you are already knowledgeable of what is going to happen.
The Ultimate Preview For ‘Wrestlemania 29’!!!
Mike P., Here…..
The most exciting event in American television is coming up this Sunday, and I’m a little concerned that some of you are going to make the wrong choice. Sure, Season 6 of “Mad Men” premieres, but that’s not the right call. The correct choice is to pony up and order Wrestlemania 29 on pay-per-view. Unfortunately, I’ve hit a lot of dead ends trying to spark Wrestlemania conversations. So I’ve compiled this helpful list, breaking down the featured matches at the Showcase of the Immortals by the television show you should forego watching in order to truly soak in the Show of Shows.
‘Walking Dead’ Season 3 Recap – Episode 12 ‘Arrow on the Doorpost’!!
Misty Here….
Good afternoon ‘Walking Dead‘ fans. I hope that you enjoyed the episode last night. There are only three more left until the season finale so every scene, in every episode, is jam packed with vital information. Let’s get to it. Rick, Hershel and Daryl pull up to an abandon grain silo and factory. Hershel is staying in the car as watch. Daryl and Rick are making their way, gun and bow up, through the silos. Hershel looks down to make sure the guns that are strapped to his leg are ready to go. Rick and Daryl continue to run on the property. They come to a building. Rick walks inside the building and Daryl stays outside to keep watch. There is a table with a couple of chairs already set up. The Governor walks out from behind the shadows and holds his hands up to show he is not armed. He says that we have a lot to talk about.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here…..
Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman franchise ranks as the best film in the series. That’s difficult for me to say, as the first two films were so amazing. Even with Heath Ledger’s iconic and eternal role as the Joker in the previous film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ far surpasses anything my imagination could have hoped for in film. Movies do not get better than ’The Dark Knight Rises’.
2013 SXSW Film Lineup Announced!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
SXSW 2013 is coming up and we are very excited about it. The lineup for the film portion of the festival has just been announced and Joss Whedon’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ will debut at the festival, as well as the remake of ‘The Evil Dead‘, ‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone‘, and ‘Spring Breakers‘. Plus much more. Below is the full list of movies. I can’t wait. Who’s going?
Film Review: ‘Broken City’
Hi, Bryan Here….
I was majorly impressed with Allen Hughes of the Hughes brothers ‘Broken City‘. I’ve seen a lot of political crime dramas before, but none like this. This particular story dives into the deep dark corners of politics and the police force in New York City at the end of a big mayoral election. I’m calling it now. Brian Tucker’s debut screenplay deserves at least an Oscar nomination for next year. This multi layered drama and its intense characters made this film shine above the rest in its genre.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Prometheus’!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
“In space no one can hear you scream.”
We have all been hearing about a movie called ‘Prometheus’ for sometime now, and all of us fans have been trying to piece the puzzle together on what it has to do with Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ film. Since Scott directed ‘Prometheus’ and the original ‘Alien’ film, there has to be some sort of connection from what we have seen from the trailers, right? The filmmakers told us that ’Prometheus’ would be a prequel to the ‘Alien’ film. After seeing ’Prometheus’, I can say that it’s a very early prequel. I’m certainly happy Scott returned to this universe, because the ‘Alien’ franchise has been in a state of decay for a number of years starting with the 4th installment and then onto the ‘Alien vs. Predator’ series. So, I was truly hoping to get an original film, but with strong ties to the ‘Alien’ franchise. The question is, did it work?
Film Review: ‘Not Fade Away’!
Hi, Bryan Here….
David Chase, mostly known for being the creator and show-runner on HBO‘s ‘The Sopranos‘, marks his first feature film directorial debut with ‘Not Fade Away‘. I didn’t know what quite to expect from this coming of age film that relies heavy on music of the 50s and 60s as well as political and social issues to further the story, but from what the trailer showcased, I expected more of a ‘That Thing You Do!‘ type of film, which chronicled the rise and fall of a local band to fame and fortune. That is not the case with ‘Not Fade Away‘. Instead we get something a little more in the way of growing up in turbulent times and dealing with change. By all means, Chase made a solid film, but it is not without its flaws.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘My Way’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Je-kyu Kang’s ’My Way’ is not just a film you watch, it’s a full emotional experience. ’My Way’ will take you on a moving journey through several countries and languages as you grown a bond with the two main characters. This is Korea’s most expensive film to date and you will immediately see that. ’My Way’ is epic on all levels. This is one of the better films I have seen in recent memory and most definitely the best film dealing with war-time since Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’.

Opera Review: ‘Aida’
Claire S. Here….
The Dallas Opera’s production of Aida was well-staged, the arias were well-sung, the choreography was well-danced, and yet despite these technical proficiencies, I was emotionally unmoved by the production as a whole. Although this opera has always been loved for its grand pageantry, the true essence of the story lies in the intimate relationships between the three main characters. Unfortunately, here, the three leads Latonia Moore (Aida), Nadia Krasteva (Amneris), and Antonello Palombi (Radames) had little chemistry on Wednesday night, and their lack of intimacy created a hollowness that plagued the entire performance.
Bryan’s Review of ‘Hotel Transylvania’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
‘Hotel Transylvania’ is a huge spectacle on the eyes. With giant colorful monsters, swooping camera pans at every scene, and a somewhat decent voice cast, you’d think ‘Hotel Transylvania’ would be the perfect movie for all ages this Halloween. However, ‘Hotel Transylvania’ relies more on the visual aspect with keeping little kids entertained to the fullest every second, that the story and characters get left buried underground. With the other animated monster and zombie films that are out right now, this one ranks low on the list.

‘Treme’ Returns for 3rd Season Sept. 23!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
First, the people came back. Then, the crime. Now, more than two years after the near death of a great city, the money is starting to arrive, which would sound like a solution if this were some place other than New Orleans, and this was some other era but America at the millennium. For the people of New Orleans, even the promises of redevelopment come with strings attached, and every dollar that shows up – whether from government disaster relief, or from venture capital, or even from those seeking to remake New Orleans in the wake of Katrina – carries with it new dynamics and new risks. National interest has waned, moving on to the next headline, but those who know and love the Crescent City have no choice. They must find their way back to what matters in the life of their city. However, little of what they can bring to bear yields a quick result, and nothing about New Orleans – its government, its police department and courtrooms, its school system – works as it should. Nothing is easy. In the end, their only weapons are community. And culture.
Unknown Pleasures Pt.1: Roxy Music “Country Life” (REVIEW)
It’s gotta be one of the sexiest record covers in music history, especially from a red-blooded American male perspective, giving you a little bit of a visual tease of nipples and pubic area without giving away too much. You’ve seen the album countless times in magazines, on record store shelves, probably even hanging on your big brother’s wall, but have you actually heard any of the songs on Roxy Music’s “Country Life” LP? Bryan’s Review of ”Amazing Spider-Man’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is the best Spider-Man film to date. I can’t believe I’m actually saying that either. It was just less than a decade or so, that the original Spider-Man film came out. So how can they be rebooting this franchise and why would they? I think there are several answers to that question. One might be as simple as making more money. The last three Spidey films have made tons of money. The opportunity came to make another film, and of course Marvel said “Yes” to that, therefore more money in the pockets of Marvel. Another reason might be, is that the third Spider-Man film was such a terrible milestone in filmmaking, and acted as a “what not to do” with a superhero franchise, that Marvel thought it would be a good idea to just reboot the series. And yet, even another reason might be, is that Marvel wanted to go the route of DC Comics and make an edgier more realistic superhero film, similar to what DC Comics did with the Batman franchise.
Bryan Reviews ‘That’s My Boy’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
We all still love Adam Sandler. He gave us great characters in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and his many iconic roles on Saturday Night Live. But at some point, Sandler started making lazy, unfunny, and obnoxious films and characters. It made me not want to see any of his films. There were a few brief moments of greatness from him over the past several years in his more dramatic roles, but when it came to his comedies, Sandler and his films have become a joke. His last film, ‘Jack and Jill’ was one of the worst films to come out in the last twenty years, with his previous comedies not too far off from that. That being said, Sandler’s ‘That’s My Boy’ is his welcome back party. A welcome back to the great comedic genius he was once known for.
Bryan’s ‘L!fe Happens’ Review!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
‘L!fe Happens’ tries so hard to be a warm hearted movie that will make you laugh and feel for its characters all throughout the movie. But due to its lack of likability of characters, and its really poor and laughable dialogue, ‘L!fe Happens’ plays out more like a 3rd rate series on Lifetime more than the funny, heartwarming, and vulgar humor type of film it wants to be. And it’s terribly sad, because the cast of this film is amazing. I like the cast of actors in this movie, but they were given a terrible script and nothing was executed to make me laugh or feel anything for its characters or story.
Harry Potter Author, J.K. Rowling Unveils Her New Adult Book!!!
Hi, Bryan Here…..
The books is called ‘Casual Vacancy’ and will cater to adults. The book has a scheduled release of September 27th, 2012 and I expect hordes and hordes of fans standing in line to get the first book. Rowling describes the book as “blackly comic” and for adults. The book runs about 480 pages and will be available in hardback, audio CD, and ebook formats. I anticipate a movie studio (Warner Bros.) picking up the rights to this book soon once its done. Here is Rowling’s synopsis of her new book:
Here is Bryan’s Review of ‘Act of Valor’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
I’ll come right out and say it. I enjoyed the hell out of ‘Act of Valor’. It was intense, thrilling, and a lot of fun. That being said, it has its flaws. ‘Act of Valor’ separates itself from other action and military films by having real navy seals play themselves rather than have actors portray navy seals. The result is bittersweet.
SXSW!!! Check Out What Films Will be Premiering at Midnight at SXSW 2012!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Boomstick Comics will be headed to SXSW this year in conjunction with Arts+Culture. We are very excited about this. One of my favorite parts of the SXSW festival are the midnight screenings. With these late night screenings is where we get to see the fun and insane genre films. And this year looks to be top notch. There is going to be a film with nazis innnnn spaaaaaaaaace!!
