Hey guys, Jana here,

In the world of reboots, ‘Predator‘ is a new one that can be put at the top of the list of “But why?” In all fairness, it’s labeled as both a reboot and a sequel, but it makes me happier to think about this film as a continuation of the first film. What the project does have going for it, is Shane Black has signed on to direct and Benicio Del Toro is eyeing the project to star.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 3rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Benicio-Del-Toro-by-Lamsweerde-Matadin

Good news, everyone. Benicio Del Toro is gonna flip people for real in the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film from Marvel Studios. Director James Gunn and the studio are keeping things tightly under wraps as far as his role goes, but his character is being built for future Marvel movies.  Yes, that means he might be in the upcoming ‘Avengers 2‘ film.

Misty Here…

Benicio Del Toro is now deciding if he wants to join Joaquin Phoenix in Warner Bros. new film, “Inherent Vice”.  Paul Thomas Anderson is the writer-director of this gem that he has adapted from Thomas Pynchon’s crime novel. The film will be set during the spring of 1970 and will follow a reefer loving detective Doc Sportello (Phoenix) as he investigates a kidnapping.  Del Toro’s character will be an attorney who always comes to the aid of Sportello, but it will not be a major role. This role will could be meaty enough to steal some of Phoenix’s thunder. If anyone could do it, Del Toro can.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Benicio Del Toro will flip you, flip you for real.  Benicio is set to play the ruthless and legendary Columbian cocaine head honcho, Pablo Escobar in a film called ‘Paradise Lost’.  The film will be a romantic thrill of sorts and is inspired by true events.  The film centers on Nick, a young surfer who visits his brother in Colombia and falls madly in love with a beautiful local girl called Maria. Their romance seems idyllic until he meets her uncle, Escobar according to Variety.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Sicario

Sicario‘ came out swinging last year and received a slew of nominations for its effort, three of those for Academy Awards. Emily Blunt, Benecio Del Toro and Josh Brolin starred in the drug war thriller. It told the story of an idealistic agent sent to flush out and eradicate a drug cartel responsible for the deaths of several members of her team. There was such a great turnout for the flick that a sequel is in the works and getting closer to a production start with plans to be in full swing by the end of the year.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-02-20 at 10.57.37 AM

Some people love his films. Some hate his films. No matter which side of the spectrum you’re on, you have to agree that every one of Terrence Malick’s films look exquisitely beautiful. With movies like ‘Tree of Life‘, ‘Knight of Cups‘, ‘The Thin Red Line‘, ‘Badlands‘, and ‘Days of Heaven‘, you can’t help but become entranced in the story, characters, and visual spectacle of Malick’s filmmaking process. His past few films have mostly shown a variety of characters who rarely say anything on screen, but instead narrate the movie as it goes along, giving a better visual masterpiece of cinema than a dialogue driven movie.

Film Review: ‘Sicario’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

150917_MOV_Sicario.jpg.CROP.promo-xlarge2

Sicario is spanish for “hitman.” It’s laid out for you right when the movie starts. And from that point on, it’s a gripping and menacing thrill ride. Sicario starts with FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt, in another action role, SUPERBLY done) leading a raid in Arizona on a house owned by a cartel drug lord. She mistakenly discovers in a firefight inside the house bodies buried within the walls.

Film Review: ‘Escobar: Paradise Lost’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 26th, 2015

Fernando M., Here…

escobar-paradise-lost-josh-hutcherson-benicio-del-toro-600x399

This is a tough one.  I’m guessing this falls into the genre of historical fiction.  Director/Writer Andrea Di Stefano created this story out of a short phrase he heard once.  “This kid got involved with the Escobar family and got into some trouble.”  From this small excerpt, Di Stefano drafted a tale of a young Candaian, Nick, (Josh Hutcherson) who gets romantically involved with one of Pablo Escobar’s nieces and becomes a member of “the family.”

Film Review: ‘Inherent Vice’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Inherent_Vice_Movie

Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the best directors working today. His films tell unique and compelling stories with such sustenance and amazing characters that you can’t help but be fully immersed within his world. From ‘Boogie Nights‘ and ‘There Will Be Blood‘ to ‘Punch Drunk Love‘ to ‘The Master‘ and everything else in between, Anderson has time and time again show that he is at the top of his game with each film he puts out.

Scorsese and HBO Re-Team For Montezuma-Cortes Series!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 19th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Back in January there was talk of Steven Spielberg and Javier Bardem heading toward a script written by Steve Zaillian. Zaillian expertly took ‘Schindler’s List‘ from a novel and created a sweeping, gut-wrenching film that was lauded by critics and peers alike. The script in question was to showcase the murderous history of Cortes and Montezuma. Neither Bardem  nor Spielberg were officially attached to the project and if it is still in progress, it’s doing so quietly.

Film Review: Guardians of the Galaxy’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 30th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Movie-Trailer-Pic

Since Marvel became their own movie studio back in 2008 with the first ‘Iron Man‘ movie, they have quickly become one of the most lucrative movie studios in Hollywood in less than ten years. With films like ‘Iron Man‘, ‘Thor‘, ‘Captain America‘, ‘Hulk‘, and the billion dollar blockbuster ‘The Avengers‘, you can see why so many people stand in line for hours on end to see the top visual effects, greatest actors, and the fun and thrilling story lines for their favorite superheroes. And of course we all know that Marvel is now famous for connecting each of their films with cameos of heroes from other movies and those exciting end credit sequences after each of their films.

The New York Film Festival is one of the highlights in the festival circuit. It’s an excellent place for a filmmaker to get a lot of exposure. Writer-Director Paul Thomas Anderson has landed the big centerpiece gala for the third time with ‘Inherent Vice‘, Anderson achieved the same trophy position with ‘Boogie Nights‘ and ‘Punch-Drunk Love‘. Many filmmakers use the festival circuit to promote new film and Anderson is no stranger to the scene. ‘The Master‘ was viewed only a handful of times in the US before it’s competition appearance at Venice in 2012 and ‘There Will Be Blood‘ world-premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2007.

Josh Brolin Will Play Thanos for Marvel!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

That’s right. Actor Josh Brolin has been signed on to play the big bad villain in the next few Marvel movies, Thanos. Thanos was the the purple guy in space seen at the end credit scene in the first ‘Avengers‘ film. And now the guy who played Brand, the older brother in ‘The Goonies‘ will play him. This is excellent news.

Hi, Bryan Here….

1392672840000-GUARDIANS-GALAXY-MOV-jy-0704

We’ve been hearing about this film for a while now. This is Marvel’s new epic film in the whole superhero franchise. We saw a tease to this film at the end of ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ earlier last year. It’s where we saw Benicio Del Toro doing something sinister. James Gunn (Slither & Super) is directing. If you are unfamiliar with the story, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.

Bryan Reviews Oliver Stone’s ‘Savages’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

After a few years of getting a softer side of Oliver Stone, Savages brings the director back to his ultra violent, drug induced, sex crazed, and savage side.  Based on Don Winslow’s novel, Savages tells an intense tale of drugs, sex, and betrayal.  I really missed this side of Oliver Stone.  I’ve been hoping for a film that can be put in the same cookie jar as Natural Born Killers, Platoon, and U Turn.  Instead, we have received films like Wall Street 2: Electric Boogaloo, W., and World Trade Center.  By far not his best work nor interesting.  So the big question is, “Did Oliver Stone deliver the goods on his return to a more sadistic film?”

The Venice Film Festival headed by Quentin Tarantino awarded Sofia Coppola’s movie “Somewhere” the Golden Lion which is the top award given at this film festival.  Now I have enjoyed Sofia’s past films including Lost in  Translation, The Virgin Suicides, and for what it was Marie Antoinette.

“Somewhere stars Michelle Monaghan, Stephen Dorff, and Benicio Del Toro.  Tarantino said “This was a film that enchanted us from our first screening…Yet from that first enchanting screening, it grew and grew and grew in both our hearts, in our analysis, in our minds, and in our affections.” The jury’s decision was unanimous.

“Somewhere” is about a hard living, hard working actor in LA who has to re-evaluate his life when his 11 year old daughter comes for a surprise visit.

If this movie is anything like Sofia’s previous work then I no doubt will love this film and it will be loved by all.

And of course I look forward to the killer soundtrack this movie will be providing.

The trailer is below.  Enjoy.

‘Annihilation’ trailer is here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2017

Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac. It was written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later). It looks so good and scary as hell. It has a lot of ‘Alien‘ and ‘Predator‘ vibes to it too. Perhaps this will be the better version of those movies that came out several years ago. The movie will release on February 23, 2018, which you can bet, I’ll be first in line for.
