Hey guys, Jana here,

ca2

He’s not Visa, but “he’s everywhere you want to be”. I’m talking about none other than Benedict Cumberbatch. He’s gorgeous, talented and British. It’s the trifecta of awesome and I simply can’t get enough. I’m clearly not alone in this feeling as the movie gods have been shuffling him back and forth for years and that trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down. We just got word that Cumberbabe will indeed provide the voice for the title grump in ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas‘!

Hey guys, Jana here,

Doctor-Strange-first-look

Ever since I heard the news that Benedict Cumberbatch was cast in the titular role for ‘Doctor Strange‘, I didn’t really have any trouble picturing him in the robes of the great Strange and now, none of us have to wonder or guess how it will look as we have pictures, now! Who says Christmas comes only one time a year?!

Hey guys, Jana here,

benedict-cumberbatch-golden-globes-nominee-2015

Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the hardest working stars in the biz with great reason, he’s incredibly talented at what he does and attaching his name to a project guarantees a frenzy of fans that will be among early ticket holders. In this case, the story, itself is enough to warrant some incredible attention. We’re talking a World War II epic called ‘The War Magician‘.

Benedict-Cumberbatch-as-Khan-in-Star-Trek-Into-Darkness

I’ve got some news about Marvel’s  ‘Doctor Strange‘  feature project that will grace theaters in 2016. In a case of we-should-have-seen-it-coming-casting, America’s favorite British export, Benedict Cumberbatch has the golden trifecta required to anchor a Marvel film. He’s got the slightly chiseled handsome face, and perfected the quality of acting an absolute arrogant but brilliant character and he’s got a deep range to his acting ability that supersedes the first two qualities.

Hey guys, Jana here,

BLOG_Kipling_The-Jungle-Book

We’ve talked before about the newest nominee for the animated-to-live-action treatment, ‘The Jungle Book‘. Rudyard Kipling’s novel is being given a lot of attention right now, both from Warner Bros. and Disney. There was a year where we got two films about dueling magicians, ‘The Prestige‘ and ‘The Illusionist‘. We got two animated films about bugs with ‘A Bug’s Life‘ and ‘Antz‘. I don’t get it, but apparently there’s no such thing as too many projects on the same subject, case in point, the over-saturation in comic book ventures.

Black Mass‘ is going to be an excellent send-off for the summer movie season when it’s released next year on September 18, 2015. There is some major star-power in this flick. Every fangirl in the world is going to be in line for this one as it pairs up none other than the ‘captain of summer-movie revenue’ himself, Johnny Depp with the newer, but no-less glorious to the fangirl scene, Benedict CumberbatchJoining Depp and Cumberbatch are Jesse Plemons (‘Breaking Bad‘), Dakota Johnson (‘Fifty Shades of Grey‘) and Juno Temple (‘Maleficent‘, ‘Horns‘). The film is based on the book ‘Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob‘ written by Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill

Hi, Jana here,

The-Penguins-of-Madagascar-Season-2-Episode-2-It-s-About-Time

In 2005 when ‘Madagascar‘ came out, I’m betting the filmmakers did not plan on the runaway stars of the show being the penguins that were a short, little side story at best. The penguins are definitely some of the best characters out of the whole franchise. I may encourage my kids to watch the penguins cartoon when we see it on TV. So learning there is a whole movie based off these great and hilarious winged birds makes me really look forward to its release date, already!

Hello, Jana here,

tumblr_mrsigiy2591rnwoh4o1_500

Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor that sends fan-girls reeling the world over. He has a quality that is simply irresistible, and film makers have monopolized on his popularity. His big breakthrough came in 2004 with a title role in the TV movie ‘Hawking‘. He worked steadily until he garnered another title role, this time playing the fictional genius, Sherlock Holmes in Steven Moffat’s ‘Sherlock‘. This is the role that marked him as the next big star and made him a household name. He has had his pick of prime acting gigs and his name has been on the tongue of casting directors since then.

Benedict Cumberbatch to navigate ‘Blood Mountain’!!

Jana B. here,

Benedict Cumberbatch

That sound you just heard is the collective sigh from The Cumber-Collective all over the world, upon hearing their poster boy, Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be starring in ‘Blood Mountain‘. Nothing can make a fan girl squee louder than knowing that he is increasing his on screen presence with another movie. Not that it’s possible for him to be any busier than he was in 2013. Cumberbatch was in every movie from last year, it seemed. With movies ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘, ‘The Fifth Estate‘, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘ and TV’s ‘Sherlock‘, among others, his presence has been noticed everywhere.

The Avengers are back and they’ve brought a few friends. The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe  packs the star-power in like gunpowder to a bomb making it ready to ignite a powder keg of awesome to kick off the summer. The usual suspects have all returned, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., and Jeremy Renner. But there is room for more awesome, and we get it with the addition of Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, and Zoe Saldana from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and far too many to mention to round out one kick-ass movie, or at least that’s what the trailer leads us to expect. We can’t forget to mention that Josh Brolin’s Thanos is back and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, the Infinity Stones.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Doctor Strange’!

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

61HRk7rEWAL

THE FILM

The next franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes with mystical and magical powers in ‘Doctor Strange‘, which is a damn good start to this new character. ‘Doctor Strange‘ was created by Steve Ditko and first appeared in Strange Tales #110 back in 1963. ‘Doctor Strange‘ or Stephen Strange is a highly intelligent surgeon who is in the top of his field. In an accident, he loses the use of his hands, which leads him to seek out alternate methods of healing. This brings him to a mystical and magical place across the globe where he meets ‘The Ancient One’ amongst other sorcerers that help him heal spiritually and physically.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Captain America: Civil War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

61GKKp2eMaL

THE FILM

The ‘Civil War‘ story line in the Marvel Universe is one of the better story lines in recent memory in all of Marvel. It pitted your favorite superheroes against each other and caused some real havoc, before taking on a much bigger enemy. The day has finally come when that comic book miniseries is put up on the big screen in a very large way with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. This is the third ‘Captain America‘ movie, and a lot of you will wonder why this isn’t just an ‘Avengers 3’ film since most of the ‘Avengers’ show up here throughout the movie. You might be right, but in a big way, this is really Captain America’s movie that shows us just how Steve Rogers ticks.

Film Review: ‘Black Mass’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 8.01.58 PM

It’s okay to look at ‘Black Mass‘ as a distant sequel to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ movies. Both have bad guys, wars, guns, monsters, and Johnny Depp. Maybe I’m reaching a bit there, but it’s still fun to think about them as distant cousins in movies. The story of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger has been told a lot, especially recently. If you’re unfamiliar with who Bulger is, he was one of the most vicious and heinous human beings to ever walk the planet. He was even the FBI’s Most Wanted man for more than a decade, as he spent most of his time in Boston as a mafia boss who committed murder amongst other things.

Film Review: ‘Mr. Holmes’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 15th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

maxresdefault

I’m a huge fan of anything Sherlock Holmes. I’ve read the books, watched the TV series, and own the films. Heck, I even own some of the Sherlock Holmes stories on vinyl. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan. We’ve seen a ton of incarnations of the famous British detective over the years. Recently though, Holmes has become very popular due to the films that starred Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and of course the hit BBC series ‘Sherlock‘ that stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock and Watson respectively. The amount of fandom for these projects have even spawned new shows and other films in the past year or so as well. It just seems that we all can’t get enough of Sherlock and those famous suspenseful mysteries.

If you’ve missed Hogwarts as much as I have, prepare to contain the squeals of joy that will undoubtedly emit from the deepest spot in your soul when you read the next line. BBC is producing a Harry Potter story unlike we’ve ever seen before. The plan is to have a two hour movie that takes place after the main characters we’ve loved so much have left Hogwarts. Remember at the end of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘ when we saw our heroes later in life all taking their kids to the train station to begin their school careers? THAT is where this film will pick up!!!

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

BBC’sSherlock‘ is one of the best shows currently airing. One of the reasons is the witty banter between characters, another reason is who plays one of those characters, Benedict Cumberbatch. One of the bad things with being a fan of ‘Sherlock‘ is that our viewing season is only 3-4 episodes long, and we have to wait a bloody long time just to get those! by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 28th, 2014

Jana B. here,

The Bag Man

I really wanted to like ‘The Bag Man‘, I did. I love Robert De Niro. I love John Cusack. How could this not be an awesome movie? It started out really promising. The opening scene jumped right into the plot. No excessive build-up, no slow start, just right there. Boom! On first impressions I was already bored of hearing about the bloody bag but I was intrigued, too. I want to know what’s in the bag but I’m also trying to figure out who decided to outfit De Niro and Cusack with the most ridiculous eye-wear known to man. De Niro’s begin to grow on you, but there is no way I could ever take Cusack seriously in those hideous specs.

Film Review: ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 12th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

desolation-of-smaug-dragon

And we’ve arrived in the 2nd year of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘, and let me tell you, it’s a big improvement on the last film, which was released the same time last year. First off, we don’t have to spend a half hour inside Bilbo’s home with thirteen dwarves eating, drinking, and singing songs about washing dishes and Bilbo’s unhappy attitude. In this sequel things start off fast and to the point, which is sure to excite all audiences. Still, adapting J.R.R Tolkien’s less than 300 page novel into three separate films might be a bit much, but damn if it isn’t fun and highly entertaining this time around with a giant fire breathing dragon, some epic battles, a familiar elf, and an escape from orcs that I could watch 100 times in a row and never tire of. Just like the previous films set in Middle Earth, I expect another billion dollars for Jackson and co.

Film Review: ’12 Years A Slave’

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 24th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

john-legend-12-years-soundtrack-lead

There have been many films about slavery and the Civil War over the years. Only a couple have been good, and those have featured a big war in the storyline. But as far as a story strictly on slavery goes, the film count doesn’t have a lot of marks for great movies. With the exception of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’, which was more a fantasy and revenge flick on slavery, british director Steve McQueen’s ’12 Years A Slave’ is a phenomenal film from top to bottom, yet it’s extremely rough to watch in certain parts due to the emotional content of the story. Chiwetel Ejiofor leads an all-star cast in one of the finest films in recent memory. One we won’t soon forget and will discuss with friends, families, strangers, and others for months to come.

It’s very difficult to give a review of “Star Trek: Into Darkness” without going into a ridiculous amount of spoilers, so I’ll just start by saying that it is a damn good film, executed brilliantly with enough originality to bring in even the most ignorant of the Star Trek universe, but also bringing familiar material that will make Trekkies go totally titillating for tribbles (hell yeah alliteration!)

After the critical and financial success of J.J. Could Abrams possibly pull off a movie as fantastic or would we be left thinking he was spent after the first? Would he continue to remain true to the geekfest of science talk that places Trek above Wars? Would we get tired of the lens flares? Yes, Yes, and no.

Film Review: ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

star_trek_into_darkness-HD

I must admit that when I walked into the the crowded theater yesterday to watch J.J. Abrams’ second journey into the Star Trek universe, I was a bit apprehensive and weary on how good it could be. Reason being, that there were no press screenings before the film was released. On the contrary, the actual press screening was one hour later than the regular screening for anyone to attend who bought tickets. Usually studios do this, because they know they have a terrible film on their hands and do not want negative reviews about their movie until the film is out. I thought of two reasons why Abrams woud do this. Either he really did have a crappy film on his hands or in true Abrams fashion, he kept tons of secrets and reveals throughout the picture wanted to keep all a secret until it was released.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage.  I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter.  After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories.  There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.

2012 Emmy Award Winners!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners.  I don’t  see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything.  They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’.  The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again.  However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here we have a new ‘Hobbit’ trailer with tons of new footage.  December is coming up fast and I can’t wait.  This is the second official trailer for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, part 1 of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy. Starring Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield). A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug. Also starring Benedict Cumberbatch (The Necromancer), Elijah Wood (Frodo), Hugo Weaving (Elrond), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Christopher Lee (Saruman).  Enjoy.  ‘The Hobbit’ will be released on December 14th.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Paramount Pictures has chosen a title for the ‘Star Trek’ sequel.  It will be called ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ and will be released May 17, 2013.  That’s not too far off.  I can’t wait.  JJ Abrams is back in the director’s chair with Chris Pine back as Captain Kirk, plus the rest of the cast from the original.

Hi, Bryan Here….

If the Simpsons were a 10 on the cool-meter on a scale of 1-10, then now they are a 15, because Tom Waits has been scheduled to guest star on the hit show for Fox for their 24th season which starts Sunday, September 30th.  Waits will play himself in the show as he helps introduce Homer to a community of survivalists, so says producer Al Jean.
