Film Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 25th, 2018

For the last decade, we’ve been getting to know most of the Marvel super-heroes. In 2008, we met Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when the comic book company Marvel decided to start making their own films with their own company, without the help of any other big studio. It was a massive success, which led to 17 more films that included a ton of more superheroes, including Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For the first few superhero films, we were introduced to their origins and character, which led to the first Avengers films. Needless to say, that first Avengers movie broke box office records at the time and put in motion a story arc that culminates into what we have today – ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘.

Film Review #2: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 24th, 2018

Avengers: Infinity War isn’t just the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is the culmination, better yet coronation, of the universe to this point. This is the film that will actually be remembered and talked about years from now. Ten years in the making, eighteen films deep, and at least 30 characters so that we could get here. It’s astonishing that they pulled this off. Infinity War, when all is said and done, will likely be the crowning achievement of this cinematic universe.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The Avengers are back and they’ve brought a few friends. The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe  packs the star-power in like gunpowder to a bomb making it ready to ignite a powder keg of awesome to kick off the summer. The usual suspects have all returned, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., and Jeremy Renner. But there is room for more awesome, and we get it with the addition of Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, and Zoe Saldana from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and far too many to mention to round out one kick-ass movie, or at least that’s what the trailer leads us to expect. We can’t forget to mention that Josh Brolin’s Thanos is back and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, the Infinity Stones.

Avengers: Infinity War‘ is set to release in May of 2018 so there’s plenty of time for more cast additions and cameo appearances to be announced. Following that line, it’s been announced that Danai Gurira (‘The Walking Dead‘) will be appearing in the latest ‘Avengers‘ film. There has been no official word on what role she will be playing, but considering in ‘Black Panther‘ she plays Okoye, one of the female warriors who watches over the royal family, so it stands to reason she will play the same role.

Hey guys, Jana here,

from-the-jungle-book-to-comic-books-jon-favreau-is-returning-to-marvel-938989

Jon Favreau has a strong presence in the movie-making world. He’s been in front of the camera, behind the camera, writing the lines and doing nearly everything else, at one point, to bring us the cinematic joys we gladly line up for. In our stadium seats with our overpriced popcorn, jumbo sodas and Mike and Ike’s, we get swept away into a world that, sometimes fortunately, is not the one we’ll walk back to, squinting in the daylight after experiencing the action, drama, laughs, epic heights and drastic lows a well-instructed cast has just delivered, and Favreau is among the best at drawing those emotions from a cast.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

avengers-3-infinity-wars

Marvel Studios has give us their epic slate of films for the foreseeable future. In that slate includes, ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘, which was a series of six comics that came out in 1992 and was a sequel to the comic series ‘Infinity Guantlet‘, which basically had the entire Marvel Universe, trying to stop the evil Thanos. Well, Marvel has now hired the director, or shall I saw directors for that project.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ 4K UHD Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 13th, 2019

The culmination of everything we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the first Iron Man movie in 2008 is here with Avengers: Endgame. Back in 2008, a few people had a big idea for us comic book fans. That idea started with Iron Man, where at the end of the film, Samuel L. Jackson showed up and wanted to get a team together. That team would be the Avengers, that would go on to team up everyone’s favorite superheroes, including Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, The Wasp, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Scarlett Witch, Vision, The Winter Soldier, and a few others. Spread over the course of ten years, these filmmakers and Marvel Studio execs have crafted an intense storyline that has continued over the last decade with rich and iconic characters that have had their own movies to shine, along with teaming up here and there to take on bigger threats.

Avengers: Endgame – Film Review!

Avengers: Endgame – Film Review #2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 23rd, 2019

“Avengers: Endgame is a nearly flawless closing chapter to this universe that started with Iron Man.”

Avengers: Endgame is a nearly flawless closing chapter to this universe that started with Iron Man in 2008. Every movie leading up to Endgame is represented here is a way that honors (while flexing) everything that Disney/Marvel has achieved in the last 11 years. For a movie this dense and long to be executed at such a high level is a testament to the common knowledge that Marvel has created with its characters over the last 11 years. For a movie to have nearly 50 characters appear yet still feel grounded and focused on the original six Avengers we met between 2008-2012 was astonishing.

Avengers: Endgame Predictions!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 17th, 2019

We are one week away from the big L.A. premiere of Avengers: Endgame. The embargo on critics reviews will lift shortly after that and the internet will be the wild west of spoilers for two days until the movie is released. I have succesfully avoided spoilers like the plague for Avengers: Endgame. I got off of Twitter last year and deleted Facebook in January (not because of Endgame), so it is very easy to avoid spoilers. I dabble in Reddit for news sometimes but don’t subscribe to any “spoiler” groups, and I still plan to stay offline starting that day in case anything makes the home page. Now even though I am leak and spoiler adverse, I have watched every single trailer and TV spot and spend way too much of my adult time speculating what will happen. I was also in the Wal-Mart toy aisle yesterday and saw the Avengers: Endgame figures so that tipped me off too. So here is what I think will happen based on that…

Dan Moran’s Top Films of 2018 and his Award Nominations!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 30th, 2018

This year I saw 102 new movies in 2018. That number is actual movies released in 2018. I count Netflix and streaming movies released this year because that is where we are heading but the majority of the 102 was in movie theaters. I decided not to rank my top movies this year because at the end of the day the difference between #10 thru #3 is usually based on my mood when I write the list. So I just put my top movies in ABC order.

EXTRACTION – Netflix Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 22nd, 2020

“What an energetic thrill ride Extraction is.”

A story that has been done many times before is given a big breath fo fresh life and brutality in Netflix’s newest violent action film Extraction, starring Thor the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, as he escorts a kidnapped kid out of India to safety, avoiding the ruthless drug cartel. What seemed like just another yawn of an action film, turned into one hell of a thrilling and extraordinary experience in Extraction, which can share a space with some of the best action films ever made. What an energetic thrill ride Extraction is.

‘Captain Marvel’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2019

“Captain Marvel has some major flaws, but the payoff in the end is worth it.”

Coming in as the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Captain Marvel, which introduces us to a brand new character in the Marvel comic book franchise of movies. We’ve been with these superheroes for more than a decade now in cinema form and it could be quite redundant with another introduction to a new superhero. Captain Marvel has some major flaws, but the payoff in the end is worth it. If you’ve been watching all of the Marvel films, then you would remember the hint at Captain Marvel in the recent Avengers: Infinity War movie during the mid-credit sequence, where Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is disappearing and he uses a device that looks like a pager from the 1990s to page someone. That someone was Captain Marvel.

Dan Moran’s Review of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 4th, 2018

Ant-Man & The Wasp is perfectly fine. Its ok. It is certainly a two hour movie in which things happen. I was entertained by things that happened in this movie, that I definitely saw, but I don’t think matter at all. I love Paul Rudd. Evangeline Lily as Wasp is delightful. Michael Pena steals every single scene he is in again. Michael Douglas certainly enjoys his paycheck. Walton Goggins is wasted, but my face lit up every time he spoke. This is without a doubt the best cast of all the solo Marvel films. The problem with the movie is that it was released at the worst possible time to get anyone to care about it.

Film Review: ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2018

A few years later, we have a sequel to one of the Avenger’s more minuscule components in ‘Ant-Man‘. The original film was funny, charming, and had a good deal of entertainment value, mostly due to Paul Rudd’s unique and perfect comedy timing and delivery. Now, after the big consequences of ‘Black Panther‘ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘, Marvel thought it be best to make ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp‘ with a funnier tone and with much lower conflict and chaos. It’s a nice breather before what’s to come in future Marvel movies.

Best Movies of the First Half of 2018!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 28th, 2018

I’ve had the chance to see a ton of movies this year but still feel like I have missed out on some indie ones that are necessary to catch before December. Below is my list so far. I was really shocked with what a good year it has been for horror and movies staying with me in general. It is pretty rare that I think about a movie days after seeing it but this year there have been so many.

Marvel made an announcement today, actually several announcements, about the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve all been hearing rumors about upcoming projects but nothing has been verified until today. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage to lay out a timeline for their next few films.

In the category of we-all-knew-it-would-happen-eventually Marvel is paving the way for an epic battle between Captain America and Iron Man with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr will reprise their previous roles and Chadwick Boseman will make his first appearance as the Black Panther. Cap’s Civil War hits big screens on May 6, 2016.

Spider-Man: Far From Home – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2019

Spider-Man: Far From Home shows that if this is the direction they plan to go after Avengers: Endgame, then be prepared for another 10 years of Marvel dominance. The ease with which this film picks up after the events of Endgame while propelling a single character forward was actually unexpected to me. Maybe I was dumb for doubting Marvel, but I didn’t think that Far From Home would be better than 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it was.

Captain Marvel – Film Review #2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2019

“Captain Marvel is perfectly acceptable and definitely worth seeing.”

Captain Marvel is a victim of Marvel’s release schedule. It is a perfectly fine and entertaining entry into the MCU but releasing it six weeks before Avengers: Endgame just can’t help but permeate my review of it. I am here for the end of the Avengers as we know them and while Captain Marvel is good enough, I found myself looking for easter eggs and Avengers tie ins instead of focusing on this story on its own. I assume I won’t be alone in how that taints my review.
