Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 10.37.46 AM

There’s a new film called ‘Jackpot‘ that has signed on Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Armie Hammer (The Social Network), and Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) to star. I even hear that Jennifer Garner is about to sign on to the cast as well. ‘Jackpot‘ is of course a remake from a 2011 Norwegian action-comedy film about a guy who wakes up in a strip club with a gun in his hand and surrounded by a bunch of dead people. Oh yeah, and the police have their guns drawn on him when he wakes up.

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer Are Clueless Idiots!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

 lone_ranger_810

I don’t usually write open letters like this on the site, but I feel like I need to with the recent statements Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer made about American film critics. Their remarks about the press and journalists are asinine, childish, and unprofessional. I get that everyone is entitled to their opinion and are free to say whatever they feel like. But what Depp and Hammer said was wrong.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted the first image of Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp in ‘The Lone Ranger’.  Armie Hammer was the face of the Winklevoss twins in ‘The Social Network’ and we all know who Johnny Depp is.  Depp plays Tonto while Hammer plays the ‘one Ranger’.  This is looking good for a movie that came extremely close to not even being made.

Blu-ray Review: Free Fire!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

Film Portion Reviewed by Janet White:

In typical 70s film fashion, Free Fire opens with an aerial scan of the city below.  Curvaceous, bold letters displayed nearly every cast member and some of the crew.  This got very old, long, and kept the pace slow.  Two men waiting in an alley… (Sounds like a bad joke, it was).  Stevo (Sam Riley) and Bernie (Enzo Cilenti) meet up with Justine (Brie Larson), Chris (Cillian Murphy), and Frances (Michael Smiley) for a shady gun buy with Ord (Armie Hammer), Vernon (Sharlto Copley), Martin (Babou Ceesay), Gordon (Noah Taylor), and Harry (Jack Reynor, how did they turn this hottie into a slob?).  Great cast, right?  Well, great casts alone do not a great film make.  The dialogue and plot points must harness and ride with that talent.

Film Review: ‘[Free Fire]’!!

by Janet White on Apr 21st, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Free Fire - Gun Gang

Inundated with morons and piss-poor shooting for a calamitous combination, Free Fire leaves the audience either shaking their heads or bowing over laughing.  Between the mumbling of lines and poor volume control, I missed bits of the dialogue for sure.  It is as if they were aiming to repeat what Tarantino did with Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, but they were not clever enough.  Complete with wondrous never-ending bullet supplies and a villain’s miraculous ability to stave off death repeatedly aka “movie magic,” Free Fire simply does not make much sense.  Could a person, shot in their right arm, fire a weapon (even automatic rifles) with their right hand? Film Review: ‘The Birth of a Nation’!!

by Janet White on Oct 7th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

the-birth-of-a-nation-sermon

When I first heard that I had the assignment to review The Birth of a Nation, I was discouraged. The 1918 version was so full of racist stereotypes, blackface, and made a hero of such a horrible organization, the Ku Klux Klan. I didn’t want to screen the 2016 film of the same name (I don’t research prior to a screening, so the experience is fresh and unbiased by propaganda). Admittedly, after watching the 2016 version, I was still discouraged. Though told from the Black point of view, I saw such atrocities committed on both sides of the racial line.   Read the rest of this entry »

Just wow! Nate Parker’sThe Birth of a Nation‘ now has a teaser trailer and it looks unbelievably amazing. The film premiered at Sundance this year and it got rave reviews and scored the highest deal ever made at Sundance, which was over $17.5 million from Fox Searchlight. The film is set to release on October 7th of this year and I bet it will be nominated for a ton of awards.

Film Review: ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 11th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Henry-Cavill-Armie-Hammer-Alicia-Vikander-in-The-Man-From-UNCLE-2015-movie

The latest Hollywood remake to hit theaters is the hit tv show from the mid-60’s ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.‘, which lasted four seasons and was partially developed by Ian Fleming just as the James Bond franchise was taking off. If you were alive during the mid-60s, you would have known that this ‘U.N.C.L.E.‘ television series was one of the best things on tv at the time, as it centered on an American spy and a Russian spy, working together to take out the bad guys in a very 007 kind of way.

Film Review: ‘The Lone Ranger’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

tonto-theloneranger-cliffs

Director Gore Verbinsky certainly borrows heavily from his animated Western, ‘Rango‘, along with some other choice films for his latest mega budget action adventure film ‘The Lone Ranger‘. In what seems to be a project greenlit only for the fact that Johnny Depp was willing to get in makeup and costume again and sport a new iconic character, this remake is deeply flawed and way too long. Running at two-and-a-half hours, this adventure flick could have been loads better with a full hour knocked off its run-time.

Here are the 2013 Super Bowl Movie Trailers!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 3rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Iron-Man-31

It’s Super Bowl Day, meaning us fellow movie geeks are only interested in a couple of things. 1) Movie trailers. 2) The commercials. 3) Food. 4) The Puppy Bowl. Not necessarily in that order. I mean, the Puppy Bowl is really the only time out of the year where the entire world is at peace and everything is a bit brighter. But, this isn’t about the Puppy Bowl.  This is about some really amazing movie trailers that will be shown during the big game this year.  We can expect a new ‘Iron Man 3‘ trailer, a new ‘World War Z‘ trailer, ‘The Lone Ranger‘ trailer, and another ‘Oz‘ trailer.  Plus some other surprises.  Below are the trailers you can see before anyone else does.  Enjoy.

Take a Look at Disney’s ‘The Lone Ranger’ Trailer!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 11th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here is the 2nd trailer for ‘The Lone Ranger‘ starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.  The first trailer we watched came out a few months ago and was about a minute shorter than this one.  I hope this turns out good and not like the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ films.  Gore Verbinski has teamed up with Depp again to make this epic picture, and at one time was going to be one of the most expensive films ever made, and the studio axed the project all together.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here’s your first look at Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in ‘The Lone Ranger’.  This project by Gore Verbinsky has had some trouble getting off the ground, but has resumed nicely.  This film has a budget of $215 million dollars, which is incredibly insane.  Depp plays Tonto and Hammer plays the Lone Ranger.  I know you all know who Depp is, but to refresh your memory, Hammer played the Winklevoss twins in ‘The Social Network’.  The film will release on July 3 of next year.  Your thoughts?

Bryan’s ‘Mirror Mirror’ Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I didn’t know what quite to expect from ‘Mirror Mirror’.  I have seen the trailers and have compared them to the other Snow White film coming out this year (Snow White and the Huntsman), and immediately knew that ‘Mirror Mirror’ was the sillier of the two.  Did I hate ‘Mirror Mirror’?  No.  Did I like ‘Mirror Mirror’? No.  ‘Mirror Mirror’ is a foolish yet whimsical film based on Disney’s classic, Snow White.  I have no doubt that ‘Mirror Mirror’ will be eaten up by kids under 12, but if your age is above that of a 6th grader, then you might find yourself angry that you bought a ticket.

Hollywood has a rich tradition of releasing competing movie projects at virtually the same time.  Armageddon squared off against Deep Impact.  Before that, Big duked it out with Vice Versa and roughly 87 other body-swapping comedies, the last of which was kept on a shelf until finally being released earlier this year (The Change-Up).  So it is that two studios have set their sights on updated interpretations of Snow White, currently scheduled to be released with 3 months of each other. Hi Bryan Here….

Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros. have decided to premiere their ‘J.Edgar’ film at the AFI Film Festival on November 3rd to open up the festival.  Many have thought ‘J. Edgar’ would premiere at an earlier film fest, but sadly it has not made any of the lists until now.  ‘J. Edgar’ is slated to open nation wide just a few days later on November 9th.
