Amazon’s New Comedy Series Are Debuting This Month!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 4th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

 alpha-house-amazon

When I read the premise for Alpha House, an original series from Amazon for release strictly on Amazon, I felt like I was kind of familiar with the idea. Four buddies that, due to skyrocketing rental prices, decide to share a house. This sounds like a frat party waiting to happen. With a name like Alpha House, you’d guess to be right on the money, right? WRONG! This is a story about four senators faced with crazy rent prices in Washington D.C., and decide to split the cost. Which, incidentally, is something that actually happens.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Amazon’s Prime Streaming Service just got a hell of a lot better.  It will be giving Netflix a run for its money.  EPIX signed a deal with Amazon that more than doubles Amazon’s streaming film catalogue.  This comes shortly after EPIX’s contract with Netflix expired.  Now films from Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate will be available on Amazon’s Streaming service.  “We think customers will really enjoy watching new titles like The AvengersIron Man 2 and The Hunger Games on their Kindle Fire, PlayStation 3, Xbox, iPad or any of the other of the Amazon Instant Video compatible devices,” says Amazon VP Bill Carr. Epix CEO Mark Greenberg calls the deal “a great line extension” for Amazon.  Read the official press release below.

Shazam! – 4K UHD/Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 29th, 2019

It’s easy to see that the executives at Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been listening to the fans in wanting funnier and more light-hearted superhero films after the super dark and very adult previous films. With ‘Aquaman‘, they literally threw in everything and the kitchen sink into that film to bring a wild, chaotic affair that was silly, yet fun in a “so bad it’s good” kind of way. There is much more of a balance with ‘Shazam!‘ and dare I say it in my most impressive imitation of WWE’s The Rock – “Finally! DC has made a fun movie!” I stand by that statement too as an odd choice in director David S. Sandberg (‘Lights Out‘ and ‘Annabelle: Creation‘) took his cues from Tom Hanks‘ 1980s film ‘Big‘ and made a large budget superhero movie out of it, set in the universe of The Justice League. Everyone in the film looks to be having a great time on screen with their respective characters and it transfers to smiles and laughs in its audience.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Geostorm’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 29th, 2018

THE FILM

Natural disaster films will always have a special place in my heart. Most of the time, they are over-the-top, ridiculous, and never make a lick of sense. Still, there is something entertaining in watching giant cities fall due to an alien invasion, a giant lizard, or is with the case of ‘Geostorm‘, extreme weather. No matter what the premise, these films usually have the same intentions and plot structure, which usually involves one hero guy to save the day, millions of casualties, hilarious one-liners, and enough insane plot tangents that would cause you to have a headache.

4H UHD Review: ‘Inception’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2018

THE FILM

Every once in a blue-moon, a movie comes out that feels refreshing, original, and entertains us on a certain level that we won’t soon forget. Of of those movies is ‘Inception‘, directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight). As Nolan was making his Dark Knight (Batman) trilogy, he made a movie in between each sequel. One of them was this film and it truly shines out of all the rest. It brings something everyone does for half their life and makes a thrilling and smart film out of it. ‘Inception‘ involves sleeping and dreaming, but with certain technology, you can be in control of your dreams, and even connect to other people’s dreams and plant an idea in their heads that might make them change their way of thinking. That’s the point of ‘Inception’. It’s quite brilliant.

If you’re like me, then you have grown to love filmmaker Christopher Nolan over the years. Come December 19th, most of his films will be released on 4K UHD for the first time ever. The films include the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘, ‘Inception‘, ‘The Prestige‘, ‘Interstellar‘, and the recent ‘Dunkirk‘. Each film will come with HDR as well, meaning a richer and deeper looking image for each movie. Each film will feature extras, the standard Blu-ray Disc, and Digital Copies of each movie. The whole collection will retail at about $150 with the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘ retailing at around $70. Of course with the holidays coming up, expect big discounts everywhere for these.

Blu-ray Review: The Glass Castle!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 11th, 2017

THE FILM

You probably have heard the name Jeannette Walls. She is a journalist that was known for her Gossip column for MSNBC, but she is now known world-wide for her amazing novel ‘The Glass Castle‘, which was a memoir about her life growing up with her dysfunctional family. Her novel stayed on the Best Seller list for 261 weeks. If you think about that’s about four years and yes, it’s that good. Of course, Hollywood made a movie about it, which was directed by the amazing Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) and starred Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts.

4K UHD Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 16th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

First off, my favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe film is ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. I love the weird, oddball, and sometimes anti-hero characters so much, the dialogue, and the feel of the whole movie, that I really connected to it and enjoyed it on every level. This group of heroes are not the norm and I relish in all their conflicts, endearing moments, and witty banter. That brings us to Vol. 2 that reunites all of our favorite characters as they go on missions to save the galaxy.

Blu-ray Review: GET OUT!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 25th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

NE2UEHKXb05S62_1_1

THE FILM

When you say the name Jordan Peele, you would most likely think of the brilliant comedic stylings of Key and Peele or Peele’s time on MadTV. You might even crack a big smile, thinking of Peele’s recent film Keanu. But I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t think of the words “horror maestro” when you see Jordan Peele’s name come across the screen. And that’s exactly what Peele can add to his resume résumé with his new movie Get Out, which he wrote and directed for the genre mogul Blumhouse.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Gate’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 21st, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-02-21 at 2.17.28 PM

THE FILM

The 1980s were very good to us horror buffs in the form of films. We were introduced to Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Re-Animator, John Carpenter’sThe Thing‘, ‘The Shining‘, ‘Child’s Play‘, ‘The Lost Boys‘ and the wonderful world of ‘Evil Dead‘ to name just a few. I guess you could say that the 80’s gave us some of the very BEST horror films ever made. One of the 80’s horror films that is just as good and as fun as the above mentioned movies, but rarely gets a mention is the 1986 film ‘The Gate‘, directed by Tibor Takacs.

Morgan O'Mally:
Double Burger.
[singing]
Morgan O'Mally:
Chuck, I had a double burger!
Chuckie Sullivan:
Will you shut the fuck up? I know what you ordered, I was there.
Morgan O'Mally:
So give me my fucking sandwich.
Chuckie Sullivan:
What do you mean your sandwich? I bought it. Hey Morgan, how much money you got on you?
Morgan O'Mally:
I said I'd give you the change when we ordered the Sno-Cones when we pulled up, so why don't you give me my sandwich and stop being a prick.
Chuckie Sullivan:
Well why don't you give me your fucking sixteen cents you got on you and we'll put your sandwich on layaway. There you go, keep it right up here for you, We'll put you on a program. Everyday you bring your six cents and at the end of the week you'll get your sandwich.
Morgan O'Mally:
Why do you have to be such an asshole?
Chuckie Sullivan:
What am I, fuckin' sandwich welfare? I think you should establish a good line of credit. Like how you bought your couch, payment plans. Remember how your mother brought in $10 everyday for a year and she finally got her couch Rent-A-Center Style?
Morgan O'Mally:
Can I have my food now please?
Chuckie Sullivan:
[throws the burger at Morgan] Here's your fucking double burger!
