Angi S., Here….

RAW_1126_Photo_264-3289282083

It’s that time of year again. When we all gather round with those we care about and watch the special Christmas edition of WWE’s RAW from Minneapolis, Minnesota! Trees, lights and cheer paired with mayhem, chaos and insanity were the order of the evening. Like so many presents we have received in our life time, we saw things that made us go this is awesome, and others that made us go what the hell did I just witness? Either way, we were just grateful to spend the time with the superstars we loved and the ones we wished we really could not see. What fun was to be had and what was bad? Let’s rip into this shiny box of holiday spirit that is the December 22, 2014 RAW!

Hi, Bryan Here…

‘A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas’ 3D Bluray/2D Bluray/DVD/Digital Copy is currently 56% Off making it only $19.99!!!  Not sure when this sale ends, but take advantage.  Normally it’s $50.00.  Following years of growing apart, Harold Lee (Cho) and Kumar Patel (Penn) have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrive at Kumar’s door on Christmas Eve, his attempts to redirect it to Harold’s house ends with the “high grade” contents – and Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree – going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar, through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven – and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high.

It’s hard to believe that another year is just about over, and the spirit of Christmas is already swirling in the air. All the department stores and specialty shops will no doubt be playing a bevy of Christmas music over the speaker system, but I can almost guarantee you they won’t be playing anything as cool as “The Ventures’ Christmas Album.”

The surf guitar quartet that made the original ‘Hawaii Five-O’ theme song popular (“Walk, Don’t Run”) trades in the beach and sand in favor of snow and mistletoe with their ever-awesome renditions of holiday classics. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi Bryan Here….

That’s right.  Kal Penn and John Cho are back again as Harold and Kumar for their third film with ‘A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas’.  The film will be in 3D, and will come out close to the holiday season being November 4th of this year.  And yes, the almighty NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) will reprise his role as himself.  The image is from EW and has been making the rounds for a while.  But not it is official.

With all of the great music releases by legendary artists this holiday season, the two ‘must have’ collections this year for sure are from Bob Dylan.

First up, continuing with his ‘Bootleg Series’, collections of rare and unreleased recordings, Dylan’s latest is the “Bootleg Series Vol. 9: The Witmark Demos”, 47 tracks featuring an early 20s Dylan on guitar and vocals, with the occasional harmonica and piano to boot. Many of these recordings have not been commercially available until now, almost 50 years since their original recording sessions. The collection also includes an in-depth booklet with liner notes from music historian Colin Escott, and is available on 2CD or 4LP. You really hear Dylan like you’ve never heard him before, as well as these songs in their first incantations ever committed to tape. It certainly feels like hearing these recordings again for the very first time.

Film Review: ‘NERVE’!!

by Janet White on Jul 27th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Nerve - Cinematography

To quote Marianne Williamson, Author and Lecturer: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Film Review: ‘Captain Fantastic’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

CFday25-580.jpg

Captain Fantastic‘ is not a super-hero movie, despite the title, but again, then maybe it is as we follow the journey of a big family, both emotionally and physically, as they stick together through some tough obstacles. Directed by Matt Ross, who is most known these days as Gavin Belson on HBO’sSilicon Valley‘, ‘Captain Fantastic‘ is one of those rare films that has just about everything you’d want in an emotional drama-comedy, which is all led by the amazing talent of Viggo Mortensen. The film is a refreshing mix of ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild‘ and ‘Little Miss Sunshine‘ and plays to both of those films strengths, while still managing to be original, entertaining, and heart-warming. ‘Captain Fantastic‘ sure has quickly become one of my favorite films of the year.

Film Review: ‘Roseanne For President’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 29th, 2016

Joel H., Here…

Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 10.42.40 AM

That laugh. That iconic friggin’ laugh. It’s been awhile. Maybe I’m out of touch with culture, which I don’t think I am, but I have not heard that laugh in so incredibly long. Immediately, I think back to my childhood and the interior of the Connor house, not too far off from my own at the time. The sound of that nasally chuckle takes me back like a song. (*Joel proceeds to smash a Smashmouth record*) Side note on being “taken back”, did anyone else grow up thinking the show “Dinosaurs” was a story-arch/dream-sequence within the Roseanne show? You know, the flannel shirts and all with John Goodman?

Hillary Thomas’ Top 5 Films and Best TV Shows of 2015!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 29th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

Best2015_660

As a writer for Boomstick Comics, we are charged with going to see a lot of movies. I thought that this past year, I saw quite a few. Apparently, with the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, the movies I saw this past year weren’t all new. There were some that were classic programming at a new venue. What can I say? James Wallace knows that I like (“Sixteen Candles”, “Aliens”, “Big Trouble In Little China”, “True Grit”, and “Conan” just to name a few), but I did see a “Few Good Movies.”

Film Review: ‘The Peanuts Movie’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 5th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

la-et-mn-peanuts-schulz-family-20150421

It’s been 35 years since we last saw Charlie Brown and his friends grace screens with a new film, but in this era of reboots and bringing vintage and retro projects back to the limelight, 20th Century Fox has brought back the Peanuts in a big way. How big? A $100 million dollar CGI ‘Peanuts Movie‘, that’s how big. With director Steve Martino (‘Ice Age‘) and Charles Schulz’s kids Craig and Bryan Schulz writing and producing the film, this new look at ‘The Peanuts Movie‘ is quite satisfying for kids and adults alike.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The new red band trailer for Seth Rogen’s new film ‘The Night Before‘ is fantastic. Rogen stars with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie who have been childhood friends. They annually re-convene every Christmas eve for a night of debauchery and decadence, however, since they are older now, this might be the last time they get to party, so they’re going to make this one count.

Top 10 Soundtracks We Want To See Released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

say-anything

Many of you might already know that I love listening to movie soundtracks. I always have. Since I was a little tyke who could barely see over a counter, I was infatuated with movie scores and soundtracks, particularly the ‘E.T.‘ original motion picture score and the ‘Beverly Hill Cop‘ soundtrack. From there, my love and passion grew for all types of music. My parents had a pretty good record collection that included all three original ‘Star Wars’ albums, ‘The Wizard of Oz‘, and ‘Star Trek I and II’ to just name a few. Throughout the years, I now have a fun record collection that spans all genres of music from Frank Zappa to Rage Against the Machine, from R.L. Burnside to The Pixies, and so on. Along the way, digging through the dirty stacks of crates at local record shops and estate sales, I became hell bent on having one of the best Soundtrack collections. And over the past several years, I’ve been lucky enough to acquire some very sought after albums. But there are still so many soundtracks that have never found their way to vinyl, either commercially or ever really. So here is a list in the hopes that maybe Varèse Sarabande, Mondo, or Death Waltz will consider releasing these albums in the near future.
