4K UHD Review: ‘The Mummy’ (2017)

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 13th, 2017

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Fernando Martinez)

The Mummy (1999) is by far one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.  Written and directed by Stephen Sommers, it works as an homage to classic monster movies, great adventures, and old school “hero of the day” golden age of cinema films. Starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and what can only be described as a truly breakout performance by Arnold Vosloo as The Mummy Himself, Imhotep!

Universal Pictures is rebooting their monster movie franchise and the first tent pole to be staked is ‘The Mummy‘ debuting on June 9, 2017. Director Alex Kurtzman (‘People Like Us‘) worked with a stellar cast to kick off this new universe where all the films will be entwined and venture into each other’s films  à la the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We see the first crossover as Rusell Crowe’s Dr. Henry Jekyll is very visible in this film, or at least in the trailer. The cast includes Sofia Boutella, Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Chasty Ballesteros, and Courtney B. Vance.

Hey guys, Jana here,

the-mummy-poster

I love Universal’s monster movies and I couldn’t have been more thrilled when I heard the company was rebooting the films into huge tentpole events all the while adding more depth to the classic monster universe. First up for renovation was ‘The Mummy‘ with Tom Cruise attached. Say what you will about him personally, or even religiously, but the man can carry a film and I’m nothing but excited for it. I suppose Universal hopes others feel that way, and have gifted us a little teaser to give us a small taste of what this movie can be.

Universal Pictures is rebooting their classic monsters universe and starting with ‘The Mummy‘. Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B. After hearing that Tom Cruise has been set to star in ‘The Mummyreboot, it should come as no surprise that a huge name like Johnny Depp would be attached to ‘The Invisible Man‘ reboot. When Universal sets its mind to creating a movie monster universe that makes us think Marvel, they come out of the gate swinging. First Cruise, now Depp, what is next and who is behind this? Angelina Jolie for ‘Bride of Frankenstein‘ maybe?

Hey guys, Jana here,

bryan-fuller

Bryan Fuller is a name known for such shows as ‘Hannibal‘ and ‘Pushing Daisies‘, but if you go a little further into Fuller’s past, you’ll find a sci-fi fan first and foremost. In fact, Fuller became a writer with the hopes of writing for Gene Roddenberry’s juggernaut that is the ‘Star Trek‘ universe. He achieved that goal and began his writing career writing for ‘Star Trek: Voyager‘ and ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘. Now he’s back where it all started, taking on the mantle of showrunner and co-creator of the new Trek series coming from CBS.

Hey guys, Jana here,

GOLDEN GLOBES TOM CRUISE WITH AWARD

Universal has made no secret about their wanting to re-launch their original monster universe. You know, The Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, all the favorites, and why not? These are great stories that can be excellent every time they’re retold. What will make the difference now, besides having a damn good special FX team, is the star. You’ve got to have some massive star-power to anchor a film of this magnitude, especially if it’s the first of their reboots on the monster series, they want it to go off with a global bang.

Here are the 2013 Super Bowl Movie Trailers!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 3rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Iron-Man-31

It’s Super Bowl Day, meaning us fellow movie geeks are only interested in a couple of things. 1) Movie trailers. 2) The commercials. 3) Food. 4) The Puppy Bowl. Not necessarily in that order. I mean, the Puppy Bowl is really the only time out of the year where the entire world is at peace and everything is a bit brighter. But, this isn’t about the Puppy Bowl.  This is about some really amazing movie trailers that will be shown during the big game this year.  We can expect a new ‘Iron Man 3‘ trailer, a new ‘World War Z‘ trailer, ‘The Lone Ranger‘ trailer, and another ‘Oz‘ trailer.  Plus some other surprises.  Below are the trailers you can see before anyone else does.  Enjoy.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Columbia Pictures is courting Jamie Foxx to star as the next villain in the sequel to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, which already has Andrew Garfield returning to star as Spidey and Marc Webb returning to direct. The script for the new film was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinker, which was based on a previous treatment by James Vanderbilt. Remember Kurtzman and Orci wrote the reboot of ‘Star Trek’ for JJ Abrams.
