Aladdin (2019) 4K UHD Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2019

Of course, Disney is on top of the world right now. Their multi-billion-dollar box office numbers are astounding. The studio is releasing a ton of movies a year from kids films and Star Wars to Marvel superhero action blockbusters. This also includes live-action remakes of their beloved classic animated movies. Even though these remakes started a long time ago, their first real, big step into this medium was in 2015 with Cinderella (I hated it). From that terrible motion picture, albeit a strong financial success, we have gotten multitudes of these live-action movies with The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and of course now Aladdin (a remake of the excellent and most-treasured 1992 animated movie).

Hey guys, Jana here,

Disney has found another story they are mining for live-action and it’s not exactly a remake of one of their established animated classics. It’s a prequel to the 1992 smash-success ‘Aladdin‘ titled ‘Genies‘. While the project has a producer and writers, there is no director attached to the undertaking at the moment.

THE GENTLEMEN – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 23rd, 2020

“The Gentlemen is a wonderful and hilarious step back into what Ritchie does best.”

The Gentlemen is a return to true form for director Guy Ritchie who two decades ago gave us some of the funniest and most violent gangster movies, including Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Ritchie has a penchant for the London gangster scene and after many years of different genres and a blockbuster Disney film about a blue genie, it was time the British filmmaker came back to his origins with a funny, brutal story and a vast amount of zany characters that are guaranteed to entertain with The Gentlemen, led by an all-star cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, and Charlie Hunnam.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Moana’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 9th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Moana‘ is the latest animated film from Disney, releasing a few months after their big hit ‘Zootopia’. No matter what film Disney releases, the usual messages and tone are consistent in every film. However, Disney magically manages to make each film feel very fresh, unique, and original with excellent characters, animation, and story lines that not only captivate me with each film, but to the masses as well. ‘Moana’ is no different here, as it looks visually stunning, as well as have an top notch story with excellent voice talent and songs.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Since there just are not enough man-eating plants in my movie collection, I’m ecstatic that Warner Bros. is making a movie musical remake of ‘Little Shop of Horrors‘. The property began as a horror movie from Roger Corman in 1960, then it went on to become a musical, then another movie, it’s had a lot of incarnations, which makes sense because it’s such a genius story!

Why I Love Movies!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 31st, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

When someone in the entertainment industry dies, especially suddenly, everyone reacts differently to the news. Some people just regard it as a bit of news for the day and go on entirely unphased. Then there’s another response some can have, it’s a personal, visceral one, at that. I fall into the latter category.

David Bowie Produces New Album!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 9th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

David Bowie is a name that brings an instant image to mind. He’s had about a thousand of them and he continues to change his look, his style and his sound. Most men at 67 would be taking it easy, but Bowie is working on new material and prepping for a new album that will add a few new songs peppered with hits that span the length of his astonishing career. The new songs ‘Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)‘ and ‘Tis a Pity She’s a Whore‘ mark the ending of a decade-long period of silence from the androgynous artist.

Robin Williams 1951-2014!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Jana here,

Robin Williams-AES-050543

This is a truly sad day. Robin Williams was found dead of an apparent suicide today. Williams was found dead in his Northern California home. The actor had been battling some pretty heavy depression lately and Williams had struggled with addiction earlier on in his career, but recently went to rehab to help maintain his sobriety, his rep said at the time. The rehab stint would have gone unnoticed, expect that the comedian opted to pose with a fan for a photo at a Dairy Queen near the facility, and the picture eventually went viral.

Broadway’s First Black Cinderella Takes Stage!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 6th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

Remember the movie ‘Akeelah and the Bee‘? Akeelah is all grown up now and preparing to take her place on the Great White Way. Keke Palmer is a long way from where she began her career as a thespian and is watching her dreams come true in a whole new way, now. Palmer will be the title character in ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella‘ bowing on September 9th at the Broadway Theatre. Not only is she the new lead for the show, but she takes precedence as the show’s first black Cinderella. Brandy held the same distinction when she wore the glass slippers in 1997’s TV Movie of the same name.

Film Review: ‘Planes 2’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2014

Rebecca S., Here…

Last night my six-year old son E and I saw the next high flying adventure of Dusty Crophopper in ‘Planes 2‘. He was so excited to see the movie since he loved the first film . There are a lot of things to like about this movie, such as the theme of bravery, the old saying that you can be anything (the continuing theme from the first movie), and that sometimes you have to follow instructions even when you don’t want to, which are important things for children and adults to remember.

Hello, Jana here,

Disney has always been more than just an animated studio, but when you produce such awesomeness as ‘Sleeping Beauty‘, ‘Robin Hood‘, ‘Peter Pan‘, ‘Aladdin‘ and ‘Beauty and the Beast‘ it’s not something that is always remembered. Plus, we begin life learning that a Disney movie is something animated with catchy songs, at least that’s what my kids learned first. The studio has been finding different ways to get more bang for their buck for a long time. That’s why there will be a celebrated release, MAYBE a sequel in theaters, then a third or more straight to DVD. Take that same movie with established characters and it pops up on the Disney Channel as a brand new animated series. Not to mention the obligatory Disney park tie-in and the countless branding options from clothing to toys to bedding and all things in between.

Here Come The Minions!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 16th, 2014

Jana B., Here…

If you’re disappointed that you won’t get to see the cute, quirky, 3 fingered minions from the ‘Despicable Me‘ movies before the third installment of the crazy popular ‘Despicable Me‘ series on June 30, 2017, I have fantastic news! Illumination Entertainment with Universal Pictures announced the 3D CG animated comedy, ‘Minions‘! Slated to release on December 19, 2014, we also know who two of the stars will be. Jon Hamm, crazy popular as Don Draper from ‘Mad Men‘ and Sandra Bullock, (‘Gravity‘, ‘The Blindside‘). Bullock is voicing the Audrey-Hepburn-esque Scarlet Overkill, as dangerous as she is fashionable, and bent on world domination. Hamm is voicing Scarlet’s husband as inventor, Herb Overkill. The film sees the faceless many minions competing to be a henchman for Overkill.

Hi Bryan Here….

Earlier today in anticipation for the release of Lion King 3D and for tis first time on blu-ray, I had the pleasure to sit in a virtual roundtable interview with Tony Bancroft.  Bancroft was one of the supervising animators on ‘Lion King’.  He also directed Disney’s ‘Mulan’.  Before we started with the interview he drew by hand a picture of Pumbaa.  It was amazing to see him bring that character to life.  After that I watched one of the extras from the upcoming ‘Lion King’ blu-ray and then on to the Q&A.  Enjoy.  And don’t forget to get the ‘Lion King’ On Blu-Ray!!
