Nine Inch Nails Is Back With New EP and Single!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 13th, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,

Nine Inch Nails has never really been gone, if you ask me, but they’re back with a new five-song collection release titled ‘Add Violence‘ on Friday, July 21st. Leading the pack of this new release is the upbeat single ‘Less Than‘. You’ll find the video below, it will make you absolutely giddy, or maybe that’s just me. The synthesizers beckon back to the optimism of the ’80’s before being overpowered with some rugged and dirty guitar riffs.

4K UHD Review: ‘Batman Begins’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

Since 1989, we were thrilled to have Batman movies. In 1989, we received are first big budget Batman film from newcomer director at the time Tim Burton. It went onto be a box office sensation and spawned three more sequels, which became increasingly worse and silly. By the time the 4th film got around, it was more like watching a slapstick cartoon than anything good or resembling Batman. In fact, the franchise became a joke. Then came along Christopher Nolan who made his trilogy of Batman films, starting with ‘Batman Begins‘, which told a much darker and realistic side of the Dark Knight. The results were astounding on both critical and box office fronts.

Alan Ball has a new show coming out on HBO, meaning we should all pay attention to this. The new show is called ‘Here and Now‘ and stars Holly Hunter and Tim Robbins. If you don’t remember who Alan Ball is, he wrote a great film called ‘American Beauty‘, which won a ton of awards. He then went on to create ‘Six Feet Under‘ and ‘True Blood‘ for HBO. We’ve all been waiting patiently since then for him to come back to work on a new HBO series.

4K UHD Review: Westworld Season 1!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 11th, 2017

THE SERIES

HBO’s new flagship show ‘Westworld‘ entered with a big bang in its first season. Since ‘Game of Thrones‘ is ending soon, HBO was ahead of the game and needed its new sci-fi action original show and ‘Westworld‘ was its name. That rhymed a little bit. Based on Michael Crichton’s story and film from 1973 of the same name, ‘Westworld‘ takes a theme park (much like Disneyland) to the next level. What do I mean by that? Well, let’s say you entered the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ ride at Disneyland.

4K UHD Review: ‘Kick-Ass’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 2nd, 2017

THE FILM

Back in 2008, Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. created a new comic book that was kick-ass, that they in fact named it ‘Kick-Ass‘. It was basically Spider-Man if Spider-Man had no superpowers and was had a hardcore R rating. The amount of creative energy, violence, comedy, and character development that went into the comic was magical as it was entertaining and wonderful. Millar just had a way with words and story plot that made this comic book called ‘Kick-Ass‘ solid gold. It was to nobody’s surprise that only two years later, we got a feature film directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman) and produced by Brad Pitt, that ignited a new breed of R rated superhero films.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Narcos’ Season 2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 4th, 2017

THE SERIES

There are a ton of drug trafficking shows and movies out there in the cinema universe, that sometimes it can be difficult to tall one from the other. ‘Narcos‘ stands on its own though, with very realistic details brought to life and keen sense to intimate stories that are put on screen. The performances are all award-worthy in this very violent tv show that allows you to sympathize and connect to both sides of this drug war. It’s something that not all creative shows can do well, but ‘Narcos‘ succeeds on all levels.

Blu-ray Review: The Fate of the Furious!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM

We’re eight movies into this franchise, which would have you assume that these films would have lost steam, been remade, or have a completely new cast. That’s not the case at all with ‘Fate of the Furious‘ or the 8th installment of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise, because there are no signs of this franchise slowing down, being remade, or losing any of its fun cast.

THE FILM

We all got glassed twenty years ago with Danny Boyle’sTrainspotting‘ movie, and we stuck around for two decades to find out which cunts would come back. Luckily, everyone came back for ‘T2 Trainspotting‘, because this sequel is highly entertaining and has some heart beneath all of the scams, drugs, and violence. Some 20 years later, Renton (Ewan McGregor) is back in Edinburgh after hiding out in Amsterdam from the events of the first film. He runs into Spud (Ewen Bremner) who is still addicted to heroine and is not in a good place. The two eventually meet up with Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), who now owns a run-down pub.

Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

Film Review: ‘LOGAN’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-02-17 at 11.10.34 AM

For decades now, we have been clamoring for a ‘Wolverine‘ film done right. From his first incarnation in Hulk #181 to his own miniseries in comic book form in the 1980’s by Frank Miller, to the amazing Saturday Morning Cartoon, and his first appearance in a feature film in 2000 with ‘X-Men‘, which had the song and dance man Hugh Jackman play the iconic character. He was so good at playing Logan/Wolverine, that fans immediately took a liking to him as that character and he went on to play the ‘Snikt-y Snikt’ character in almost a dozen more films. Besides the ‘X-Men‘ films, Wolverine got his own set of standalone films, which may or may not have been liked by a lot of people for various reasons. Either the story was too silly or the character Wolverine was to PG for fans.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Infiltrator’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 27th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

91mazrrfznl-_sl1500_

THE FILM

We’ve seen quite a few movies and even TV shows that cover the Pablo Escobar story and his drug cartel over the years. Some have been great where others missed the mark. Here with ‘The Infiltrator‘, you never really see Pablo Escobar, but only in passing as the story follows real-life US agent Robert Mazur or as his undercover name Bob Musella, played by Bryan Cranston, who is no stranger to the drug business (Breaking Bad). Robert Mazur went deep undercover to unlock and take down Pablo Escobar’s drug business, along with his right hand men.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 15th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

51cr14hes4l

THE FILM

This portion of the review was written by Suzanne Loranc.

Everyone can understand that the second movie in any series can be the problematic middle child of a franchise. They tend to suffer between the spellbinding beginning and the satisfying conclusion. However, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire rises above the usual awkward bridge label with excellent performances and a script that remains faithful to the book to make it a movie that could almost stand on its own.

Film Review: ‘Jason Bourne’!

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Jason-Bourne-2

Hey now. Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne in the new film that is simply titled, ‘Jason Bourne‘, which teams up Damon and director Paul Greengrass once again for the spy thriller who seems to never remember who he is or where he came from. In addition to the usual losing sight of Jason Bourne, then spotting him in a big crowd, to losing him once again, the writers added HBO’sSilicon Valley‘ show to the element without all of the fun or comedy. I’ll get to that in a minute though.

Texas-Chainsaw-2-Blu-ray

THE FILM

The original ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘ is one of the best horror films of all time. It still holds that title to this day. One thing most people don’t realize though is that the original film was made in such a way to evoke terror and horror, that it was filmed in such a manner as to show almost not gore, blood, or violence. It was all left off-screen for the most part. In return, this was a low-budget independent horror film that was fast-paced, horrific, and wildly entertaining, if not scary-as-hell. It truly is one of the perfect horror movies. some twelve years later, the original director Tobe Hooper came back and directed a sequel titled ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre II‘.

Film Review: ‘Green Room’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 30th, 2015

Jay S., Here…

green-room-movie

As a hobby musician, I’ve played a few sketchy venues.  I’ve had occasions where I had to worry about whether or not I would be paid, and I’ve even had a couple of times where my physical safety held the forefront of my thoughts.  In his latest triumph, “Green Room,” writer-director Jeremy Saulnier (‘Blue Ruin‘) takes ahold of those themes and runs screaming into the woods, dodging bullets, machetes, and outpacing the foaming jowls of kill-hounds.  During the Q&A at Austin’s Fantastic Fest, Mr. Saulnier told the audience about, as a teen, attending Punk-Rock shows and being perplexed and off-put at having to share the event with skinheads and neo-Nazis.  This experience he credited as being the seed that eventually led to the screenplay for his thrilling movie, “Green Room.”

Film Review: ‘Black Mass’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 8.01.58 PM

It’s okay to look at ‘Black Mass‘ as a distant sequel to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ movies. Both have bad guys, wars, guns, monsters, and Johnny Depp. Maybe I’m reaching a bit there, but it’s still fun to think about them as distant cousins in movies. The story of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger has been told a lot, especially recently. If you’re unfamiliar with who Bulger is, he was one of the most vicious and heinous human beings to ever walk the planet. He was even the FBI’s Most Wanted man for more than a decade, as he spent most of his time in Boston as a mafia boss who committed murder amongst other things.

Film Review: ‘American Ultra’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 19th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

american-ultra-jesse-eisenberg-600x414

This late summer movie ‘American Ultra‘ mixes a good stoner comedy with high octane action with a great cast and some decent laughs throughout. You can add to that a good amount of bloody violence in the second half of things. That all being said, ‘American Ultra‘ seems to lose its steam far from the climax of the movie, and seems to just go through the motions until the end. Still, it’s a fun popcorn film to end the summer on. Director Nima Nourizadeh, whose only previous film was the found footage party movie, ‘Project X‘, leaves the handheld camera on the table here, and delivers some decent long shots of violence and action, which is a step up in his career.

TV Review: ‘Peaky Blinders’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 7th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

peaky-blinders-fin_2705945b

I’m an addict. When I see a new TV series that I fall in love with, I marathon every episode until I reach the end, or a cliffhanger. Both of those conditions were incredibly true for my newest addiction – ‘Peaky Blinders‘. ‘Peaky Blinders‘ falls into one of my favorite topics when it comes to what I’m watching and it’s all about mafia. The show was produced by BBC and aired the first season beginning in September of last year. Then Netflix entered the equation by acquiring exclusive US distribution rights from the Weinstein Company and Endemol. It became available for streaming on September 30, 2014. Film Review: ‘Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 21st, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

sin-city-2-a-dame-to-kill-for-eva-green-ava-lord

Second verse, same as the first. It’s been almost ten years since Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller brought us the noir-soaked graphic novels known to comic book fans around the world as ‘Sin City‘, which was created by Miller himself. This seedy, ultra violent, and nasty underworld, where crime is rampant and the bad guys end up on top of this booze drenched and drug induced city is the backdrop for some of the most entertaining characters in ever to come out of a graphic novel.

Paul Giamatti Heading ‘Straight Outta Compton’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 18th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

o-STRAIGHT-OUTTA-COMPTON-570

We all knew that creating the N.W.A. biopic, ‘Straight Outta Compton‘ was going to make some headlines in some form or another. I didn’t expect the production to get so much attention, especially this early on. The biggest shocker came in the form of an extremely real drive-by shooting when the crew was filming near the Compton courthouse. The unplanned violence gave the crew a good scare, but it’s back to business as usual.

Film Review: ‘The Giver’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

giver_a

Here we are with yet another Young Adult franchise that is based off a series of books. This time around, we have Phillip Noyce’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 big selling book ‘The Giver‘. I can’t believe it’s been more than twenty years since that book came out. If you are unfamiliar with the story, don’t feel left out, for you have probably seen or heard this story a few times before. ‘The Giver‘ takes place in a man-mad Utopia of sorts where people are void of human emotion by choice and force, thus no violence or wars could happen again.

Hey everyone, Jana here,

ben-hur2

If you’re new to the site you may not know how I have railed against the habit film makers have of taking classic movies and re-tooling them into what they deem bigger and better. If you’re not new, sorry, had to point that out! Anyhow, I have certain rules that make a re-imagining somewhat acceptable. One of them is if the original has been out for more than 50 years, go for it. If there were only crappy and really horrid special effects in the original, I’m looking at you Bubo, then go for it, but you better knock that flick out of the park! I’m talking about mind-melting special effects and balls to the wall violence. There is something to be said for childhood favorites, no matter how awful that cutting edge technology was, now. This bit of news falls into both categories.

Is There a ‘Kick-Ass’ 3 In The Works?!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey fanboys and girls, Jana here,

MV5BMTMzNzEzMDYxM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTc0NTMxMw@@._V1_SX640_SY720_

You may be asking yourself what is in the future for ‘Kick-Ass‘. Let me fill you in on the latest. When Mark Millar, the creator of the comic books the movies are based on, he’s not sure either. The freshman offering from the Kick-Ass universe took fans by storm and surprise. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve re-watched the movie, punched the air in victory or sat in shock watching the death of Big Daddy. Hit Girl is my personal favorite and I’ve tried telling my son numerous times that if he finds a girlfriend one day like her, I’ll be happy.

The film made stars out of relatively no-name actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz and moved them up to major players in the acting world from the bit parts they had been accepting. The budget for ‘Kick-Ass’ was a trifling $28 million dollars but brought $100 million at box offices and earned another $140 million in DVD sales. This kind of revenue would make any production company eager to sign on for a sequel and that’s what happened.

HBO Eyes Stars For ‘True Detective’ Season 2!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 7th, 2014
Hey everyone, Jana here,
‘True Detective‘ was lauded by critics and fans alike in its first season. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have a loyal and already won over group of fans that followed them to the gritty series. Add into that equation fans of HBO’s unparalleled programming and production value and mystery/crime/drama fans and it’s the perfect recipe for success.  ‘True Detective‘ was lauded with Emmy nominations by the truckload. How does HBO compete with itself on such a stellar first season? With an equally star-studded and action packed second season, of course.

Comic-Con gives and it just keeps giving. This time they gave us the red-band trailer for ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For‘. ‘Sin City‘ from 2005 and based on Frank Miller’s graphic novels, was a groundbreaking hit. Now Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Miller have joined forces once again to give us the next chapter in the tale of the inhabitants of Basin City. ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For‘ gives us more of Miller’s riveting storytelling and a lot more of the stylized violence the first installment was packed full of.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Ginger Snaps’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

61abmZkAgyL._SY300_

THE FILM

I admit, I’m a suck for werewolf films. Ever since I was shown 1941’s ‘Wolf-Man‘ when I was very little by my dad, I knew that I would be hooked on werewolves for life. Then I watched Michael Jackson’sThriller‘ video and ‘An American Werewolf in London‘ soon after that, while all under the age of eight. Needless to say, these werewolf films have had a profound effect on me, and might be the igniting reason why I love the horror genre so much. When I was in college, I came across a film called ‘Ginger Snaps‘, which was only released in Canada at the time, and being a big movie buff, I had to get my hands on any film that wasn’t being released in the U.S. yet.

It’s that time of year again. Time to celebrate the founding of this nation by eating excessively and purchasing enough fireworks to create man-sized craters in the pavement. In honor of this time, here’s a list of the most ‘Murican movies ever. This isn’t a list of patriotic movies (though some of these could be seen as patriotic), so you aren’t going to see Saving Private Ryan or other true patriotic movies on here. Good news, everyone. Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory have finally partnered up to give us horror fans something we have wanted for far too long. Not one but two different Blu-Ray box sets that spans all of the ‘Halloween‘ films. There will be tons of new bonus features, every film in high-definition, collectible packaging, and a 40-page Booklet. You can expect this amazing set in time for Halloween season, specifically on September 23rd. It’s about time they did this, because Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street already have box sets. Glad to see ‘Halloween‘ is catching up with everyone else. Now if we can just get that ‘Phantasm‘ box set to release in the US instead of the UK, all will be well. And today, they have unveiled the amazing Box Art it comes in. This is Fantastic. I Can’t wait. And you can pre-order the set now for 30% off.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Eastern Bandits’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 5th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

61kX4ko8V0L._SL500_AA300_

THE FILM

If films had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), then ‘Eastern Bandits‘ would be diagnosed with a severe case of it. I’m not saying that it’s a horrible thing, but it definitely takes away from the main focus of the film and it tends to stray into some ridiculous sub-plots throughout 107-minute run time. The film is billed as a Western meets Martial Arts type of movie. Well you can add comedy, heist, and whacky to that mix as well.

DIFF 2014 Film Review: ‘Brazilian Western’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2014

Claire S., Here…

 brazilian-western-tiff-review-header-graphic

Brazilian Western” is René Sampaio’s debut feature length film, which is loosely based on a legendary Brazilian folk song titled, “Foroeste Caboclo.”  Don’t be fooled by the title. This is not a traditional Western by any means. Instead, the film is a little bit “Scarface”, a little bit “Romeo and Juliet”, and a little bit “The Unforgiven”.  This may sound like a strange combination with too much going on, but it actually works.  And oddly enough, despite the ultra-violent scenes in the film and the depressing ending, the one word I keep using to describe this film is “fun”.

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Showtime Announces Two New Series!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 16th, 2014
Jana B., Here,

Joshua Jackson

I love watching premium network series. It started with ‘The Sopranos‘. I was absolutely fascinated by how many times they cursed, how much violence it showed, and don’t forget all the T&A in the sex scenes! I should also include the story line arcs that I never wanted to end, as well. I just couldn’t believe this wasn’t a stand alone movie, but a series I got to watch every week! As time went by I had my attention divided to include ‘Big Love‘, ‘Weeds‘, ‘Nurse Jackie‘, ‘Dexter‘….and on and on and on. So I’m excited about Showtime’s announcement of two new series that have been picked up.

Film Review: ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 20th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

wolf-of-wall-street-trailer-06172013-014649

Even though Martin Scorsese is 71 years old, he has not taken a slower and more cautious path in making films or even the stories he tells. ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘ is anything but cautious and slow. In fact, during its three hour run time from start to finish, only one hour seems to have passed by, as we are thrown in head first into a drug-fueled, rich hungry, and ultra luxurious life of Jordan Belfort and the sinful synagogue know as Wall Street. I have no problem with saying that this is right up there with the best of Scorsese’s films, and it might be Leonardo DiCaprio’s most intense, layered, and greatest performances yet. Hundreds of millions of dollars are made during the course of this film, and I’m sure the same amount, if not more will be made at the box office this holiday.

Film Review: ‘The Family’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 13th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

the-family-movie-photo-2-550x303

Director Luc Besson must just love Martin Scorsese’sGoodfellas‘. I’m sure if there was a film that showed the life of  Henry Hill one he was in the witness protection program, this would have been that film. ‘The Family‘ is a dark and ultra-violent comedy where a former family working for the New York mafia is in the witness protection program after testifying on some big bosses. This family has been re-locating every few months or so, and are now in a small town in France.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Martin McDonagh’sSeven Psychopaths’ is highly entertaining.  I was a huge fan of McDonagh’s ‘In Bruges’ and have since then been wanting more from him.  It’s been four years since ‘In Bruges’, which was the last thing McDonagh did, and I can safely say that McDonagh’s writing and directing has only gotten better.  McDonagh is the next Tarantino and ’Seven Psychopaths’ is an excellent film.

Film Review: ‘Fast & Furious 6’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 23rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

fast_and_furious_6-wide

Universal’s biggest film franchise has hit number six with more than $1.5 billion in previous sales. And it looks like this new sequel/prequel will even push that amount further into another billion, despite its awful dialogue and numerous over-the-top, zany action sequences, which seems to make the audience laugh more often than cause suspense. That being said, this film does deliver what the audience has wanted since the first film. That is all of the original actors are back this time, which includes Michelle Rodriguez. I have no doubt this will score big at the box office. At least Universal seems to think so, as they have already greenlit part 7, which will be released next July and promises more stars and bigger action.

Film Review: ‘The Hangover III’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 23rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

the-hangover-3-wide

I’m not quite sure why ‘The Hangover III‘ was called ‘The Hangover III’. The first two films actually dealt with four friends having an epic hangover and their crazy exploits and adventures. This third installment doesn’t even include a hangover and oddly leaves a lot of the comedy at the front door and focuses instead on violence, murdering animals, and action sequences. I’m sure this will score a giant box office reward for its opening weekend, but bad word of mouth should prevent this third and final act from making any more money past the next couple of days.

Fairytales are always fodder for reinterpretation and expansion in movies. Sometimes they fall flat and sometimes they add to the beloved story we knew as children. Film Review: ‘Broken City’

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Broken City Movie

I was majorly impressed with Allen Hughes of the Hughes brothers ‘Broken City‘. I’ve seen a lot of political crime dramas before, but none like this.  This particular story dives into the deep dark corners of politics and the police force in New York City at the end of a big mayoral election. I’m calling it now. Brian Tucker’s debut screenplay deserves at least an Oscar nomination for next year.  This multi layered drama and its intense characters made this film shine above the rest in its genre.

Hi, Bryan Here….

gangster-squad_2012-en-2-1280x851

Gangster Squad‘ lacks depth, character, and mild storytelling, but with its amazing cast of actors, over-the-top violence, and cartoony vibe, I left the theater highly entertained.  Instead of playing out like a true noir gangster film from the 40s, director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) has gone the route of making this gangster film like and R rated ‘Dick Tracy‘ mixed with a Saturday morning cartoon, which isn’t necessarily bad, but instead of getting story and character, we get blood and guts.

Bryan’s Top 20 Films of 2012!!

Hi, Bryan Here….

I can’t believe that 2012 is at its end and we are about to welcome 2013.  This year has gone by so fast, and man, did I see tons of films.  When I started making this 2012 list, I came up with 87 films that I enjoyed.  Yes, you read that right, 87, meaning there were probably just as many films that I didn’t enjoy.  Now, below is my top 20 of the year. I just couldn’t do it with 10 this year.  And these are films that I watched in the theater or at home and that don’t necessarily come out this year, but I did see this year.  And I’m sure I’ll get a lot of criticism for my list, but hey this is my list, not yours.  You can have your own.  But my lists tend to be different than most people’s as you can tell from my previous lists HERE. Film Review: ‘Killing Them Softly’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Killing Them Softly’ not only is a brilliant and intelligent crime yarn, which will fulfill your violence, gore, and character levels, but also from beginning to end has a political and social undertone that makes this modern crime noir film much more than it looks to be. It’s been several years since Andrew Dominik made a film.  His last film was the impressive ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’ in which Brad Pitt starred in.  Well Pitt is back and even better than ever in ‘Killing Them Softly’.

Good news for your Tarantino fans out there.  Actually, I don’t know whether to be happy or angry about this.  Lionsgate and Miramax are releasing a big Tarantino movie set on bluray on November 20th.  It will contain 8 films and two bonus discs.  This kind of sucks, because I imagine most of us already own all of these on bluray already individually.  Now we have to purchase all of these again.  And, why are the ‘Kill Bill’ films not in one film like we have been promised for years now.  I will admit, the artwork is cool from MondoTees, but I can’t justify purchasing this, for two extra bonus discs.  These look to be the same blurays that we already have.  And why did they not wait till next year to release this, so they could include ‘Django Unchained’?    Official press release below.

‘Battleship’ has a bluray heading our way August 28th.  READ MY REVIEW HERE!  It looks like there are tons of features on this release, and I anticipate this bluray look flawless and sounding even better.  It looks like this bluray will come with the DVD, a Digital Copy, and the UltraViolet Copy.  I’m very happy that we are getting a choice in a Digital Copy and UltraViolet.  I’ll go Digital Copy 100% of the time, but I hope other studios take notice of this and start providing us with a choice. Looks like Amazon has the pre-order up for $24.99. Below are all the fixin’s you can expect with the release of”Battleship’ on Bluray.

Bryan Reviews Oliver Stone’s ‘Savages’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

After a few years of getting a softer side of Oliver Stone, Savages brings the director back to his ultra violent, drug induced, sex crazed, and savage side.  Based on Don Winslow’s novel, Savages tells an intense tale of drugs, sex, and betrayal.  I really missed this side of Oliver Stone.  I’ve been hoping for a film that can be put in the same cookie jar as Natural Born Killers, Platoon, and U Turn.  Instead, we have received films like Wall Street 2: Electric Boogaloo, W., and World Trade Center.  By far not his best work nor interesting.  So the big question is, “Did Oliver Stone deliver the goods on his return to a more sadistic film?”

BRIDGE – Chapter Twenty

by Justin Cline on May 9th, 2012

CHAPTER TWENTY

The tinny song was repeating by the time Bridge determined its tune was emanating from him.  After that, the process whereby he retrieved the phone from his coat pocket was lengthy and arduous.  He was in need of fingers, which forced him to swap his lighter from his left hand to the right, balancing it in the center of the wide, flat stone.  Only then could he pull out Rook’s cell and identify the caller. Hi, Bryan Here….

I’m so excited to get the ‘Battle Royale’ films on blu-ray.  I’ve owned bootlegs of these films, as well as a shitty official DVD version of these movies in the past.  Now, all will be right with these official bluray releases.  Over at Familyvideo.com (made me laugh), they have the set for only $17.99.  That is 64% Off.  Amazon.com is selling it for $31.99 right now.  So take advantage and get it for $17.99.  It comes out tomorrow.  Thanks for the tip, Joel.

BRIDGE – Chapter Eleven

by Justin Cline on Feb 29th, 2012

CHAPTER ELEVEN

The news destroyed all sense of perspective.  In what world could the murder of one of his clients intersect with the assassination of a sitting president some fifty years earlier?  It seemed impossible that the same weapon could have been used on both victims.  And yet, according to the cook, the proof was resting in Bridge’s palm. Hi Bryan Here….

HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ is easily one of the most brilliant and engaging series to air in the past decade.  It is full of colorful characters, gripping story lines, and tons of violence and sex.  And all of the series is based on actual people and events from the roaring 20’s in Atlantic City.  You can tell that everyone involved with the series has a passion and love for the show.  This bluray release is incredible.  The video and audio are top notch while the extras are a lot of fun for any fan of the show.  This gets my highest recommendation.  So let’s have a glass of scotch and be secret about it.

BRIDGE – Chapter One

by Justin Cline on Oct 31st, 2011

CHAPTER ONE

There are pockets within the city where even the hacks don’t travel.  Requests for passage to such places are sometimes met with laughter, oftentimes with the threat of violence, but always—always—refusal of fare.  It would seem that even madmen have moments of clarity, wherein common sense cannot be denied.  If only the same were true of the driver who delivered the blonde to The Bethany Hotel. Hi Bryan Here….

I remember watching Degrassi growing up way back when it first started.  It has changed quite a bit in its 10th season but the core of the stories are still there.  I remember when Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob) got involved with the Degrassi franchise.  This 10th season had 44 episodes and was previously known as Degrassi: The Next Generation but dropped ‘The Next Generation’ part for this 10th season.  This was quite fun to watch, but I’d imagine teens and pre teens would enjoy it more than I did.

Bryan Reviews ‘Trainspotting’!!! (A Blu-Ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 12th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

This is such a delight to have on blu-ray.  Danny Boyle’s first film sets the bar pretty high.  Of course Boyle would go on to direct ‘127 Hours’, ’28 Days Later’, and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.  But Trainspotting was an instant cult classic and starred a wide variety of then at the time unknown stars, but today are A-list actors.  I have still not seen a film that has shown me the true distinction of agony and satisfaction as perfectly as this film did.  Seeing the constant struggle with drug addiction and the highs and lows of going through a drug addiction was quite entertaining and so tragic.  This dark comedy will take you through an insane psychadellic journey of devastation, pleasure, and the ultimate high.  That is ‘Trainspotting’ for you.

Hi Bryan Here….

I am just loving these musician documentaries.  The first half of the George Harrison doc has been amazing.  Looking forward to the second part tonight.  And now  Harry Belafonte is getting a documentary on his life and career.  Most of you might know Belafonte as the guy who sang ‘The Banana Boat Song’ which features the lyric “DAY-O”.  It was featured in the film ‘Beetle juice’.  I’m very excited for this doc as I am a huge fan of Belafonte.  I remember watching the making of Michael Jackson’s ‘We are the World’ music video and during the rehearsal, all of the singers and musicians just randomly started singing ‘The Banana Boat Song’ along with Harry Belafonte himself.  It was magical.
