Ethan Hawke has ’24 Hours To Live’ on Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 12th, 2018

Why did this movie not get a major theatrical release? I have no idea. This movie called ‘24 Hours To Live‘ stars Ethan Hawk and produced by the guys who helped make ‘John Wick‘. I mean, this has gold written all over it. Not sure what bonus features will be available, but there is none listed at the moment. Let’s hope that changes. You can currently see the film On Demand, but the Blu-ray will be available on February 6th.

Film Review: ‘Mark Felt’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 12th, 2017

Written By: Beka Perlstein

As I watched Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching a movie about modern day politics. I wasn’t around during the Nixon years, so the story itself was intriguing to me, but as the film played I just became increasingly frustrated that history was seemingly repeating itself. Mark Felt was as they said, “the G-Man’s G Man.” He worked for the FBI for 31 years and it’s made clear at the outset of the film that under Hoover, he was the guy that held the key to Pandora’s Box. Felt knew when to talk, when to keep his mouth shut, when to bark and when to bite. Everyone in Washington knew not to cross him for fear of their secrets leaking. But that wasn’t Mark Felt. He. Did. Not. Leak.

Film Review: ‘Zootopia’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 2nd, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Zootopia

Finally, Disney has resurrected the animated animal film genre with ‘Zootopia‘ The genre was for sure getting stale with yet another ‘Ice Age‘ and ‘Madagascar‘ film coming out every year or so. That’s not to mention the ‘Kung-Fu Pandas‘ or any of the other sloppy films that have come out in recent years. That is until ‘Zootopia‘ has given new life to the world of talking animals with an incredible voice cast, hilarious bits that will leave you laughing out loud, a story that is highly entertaining, and great and very relevant messages throughout. Both adults and kids will find many things to love about ‘Zootopia‘, which is a thing Disney has been getting right for a number of years now.

Hey guys, Jana here,

1510983_orig

I’m sure everyone’s noticed, or read, that remakes are the axis that makes the movie-world go round, and it looks like they’re also the source of “new” television series, as well. If you hear ‘Rambo: New Blood‘, someone is probably thinking Sly’s got another action flick on the way and they would, unfortunately, be wrong with that line of thinking. The title is absolutely in the works, but as a series for the small screen. Who’s surprised – raise of hands? Me either.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Muppets Most Wanted’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

MuppetsMostWantedBlurayCombo_jpg_rgb

THE FILM

It’s very difficult to find a sequel that’s as good as the original. There aren’t a lot out there that are great sequels, but when they do come along, they are remembered forever. And maybe what worked so well for the first Muppet film that starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams is that it had a human element to it, and didn’t just follow the Muppets around. That’s not to say that this sequel ‘Muppets: Most Wanted‘ isn’t a lot of fun and very entertaining. It is, but it doesn’t have that magic that the last one had.

Film Review: ‘Need For Speed’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

need-for-speed-first-look-06102013-201607

I was trying to think of a movie that was based on a video game that was truly amazing. I couldn’t do it. I went through all of them, and while I enjoyed some of the attempts, nothing really stood out as being unforgettable or even that great. Sure, you have your ‘Resident Evil‘ movies and your ‘Tomb Raider‘ films, but ultimately those are still forgettable and don’t hold up all that well, although they have made a killing at the box office.

Hi, Bryan Here….

joecornish600

As we all know, J.J. Abrams has directed the last two ‘Star Trek‘ films, but earlier this year, we reported that he was asked to direct the upcoming ‘Star Wars‘ sequels, which he happily accepted. That being said, he has no time to do another ‘Star Trek‘ film in the near future, as he will be busy making the ‘Star Wars’ films. And as of the last 48 hours, Disney has told Abrams that ‘Star Wars’ MUST be released in 2015, which is putting this ‘Star Wars‘ project in rush mode, due to Abrams taking over script duties.

Film Review: ‘Bullet to the Head’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 31st, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

url

Sylvester Stallone and director Walter Hill abandon their walking canes to make one brutal action film set in New Orleans called ‘Bullet to the Head‘, even though it’s silly, brainless, and laughable. This action flick packs a hard punch, but fails in story, character, acting, and dialogue.  But what do you expect from two guys who are around 70 years of age, who are making and starring in films that involve a climax with battle axes.

Best Movies of the First Half of 2018!

Blu-ray Review: ‘Molly’s Game’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein)

Do you have a girl crush on Jessica Chastain? Do you have a man crush on Idris Elba? If you have any combination of the two, Molly’s Game is going to make you have all the feels. This is a well done film with all the right players and script that packs a punch. Aaron Sorkin (screenplay and first time director) has taken the novel Molly’s Game and turned it into a film that at a run time of two hours and twenty minutes seems fast paced and doesn’t waste your time. While I know literally nothing about poker, this movie kept me entertained and engaged because the story wasn’t the game-it was the players.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 25th, 2018

THE FILM

There is always hope for a new ‘Star Wars‘ movie. Two years ago with ‘The Force Awakens‘, Disneyand JJ Abrams reinvigorated the franchise into becoming the #1 movie of all time. Not only was it financially successful, but it brought a new love to the film series, since the prequels almost destroyed all that ‘Star Wars‘ had built up since 1977. It was a new day in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe with new characters crossing paths with our favorite original characters, which made our collective nerdy hearts soar with happiness and nostalgia.

4K UHD Review: ‘Justice League’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Dan Moran)

There are several things about Justice League that are good. I think the cast is terrific. Gal GadotBen AffleckJason Momoa, and Ezra Miller are great in their roles. They each have a character moment (earned or not) that makes me interested in seeing their next solo adventure. DC/WB has put some talented filmmakers in charge of the next slate of movies. Justin Lin doing Aquaman sounds great, Patty Jenkins taking Wonder Woman on her next adventure, and Matt Reeves writing and directing The Batman. These are world-class filmmakers who have a great actor in the title role and hopefully that leads to some great story telling. I have no idea who is directing The Flash but I did enjoy him as the comic relief character in Justice League and would like to see if he is more than that in the future. Even Henry Cavill’s “new” Superman was delightful as he is reborn in this film and is no longer a whiney douchebag with terrible parents. Man of Steel 2 is actually on my radar now! But those are the nicest things I can say about Justice League. I loved the cast and I look forward to their solo adventures because having them all together in whatever Justice League was/is/supposed to be was a horrific insult to the fans of DC and moviegoers in general.

Criterion Blu-ray Review: ‘I, Daniel Blake’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 23rd, 2018

THE FILM

For more than 50 years, Ken Loach (KES) has been making films that cause us to think about our current political and social climates, no matter what race your are or where you come from, because a lot of us suffer from the same overall issues, whether it be medically, financially, or a corrupt government. Loach has never been shy to show any of these topics in his films over the years as well as in real life interviews. If you’ve ever attended a screening a film festival or movie where Loach is the director behind the movie, you will immediately know what you’re in for, which is usually a story of someone being beat by the system, despite all of the honest and good things they do. His film I, Daniel Blake is no different, which isn’t a bad thing.

‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ is coming to Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

One of my favorite and Top movies of 2017 is coming to Blu-ray on January 23rd. Of course, I’m talking about ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer‘ from director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster). The film stars Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, and Barry Keoghan. I have described this movie as a sibling to Stanley Kurbick’s film ‘Eyes Wide Shut‘, because of the glaring similarities. Not only is it similar, but it’s a damn good film that stays with you long after you watch it. There looks to be only one extra here and no 4K UHD release yet, but let’s hope that changes. I can’t wait to watch this again and  relive the awkwardness and suspenseful situations this movie delivers.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

4K UHD Review: ‘Dunkirk’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 19th, 2017

THE FILM

There’s never been a war film like ‘Dunkirk‘, which I’d say is a masterpiece in filmmaking, lead by Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy). Even though Dunkirk cost $150 million to make, you really wouldn’t know it, as it’s simplistic, yet grand view of the Battle and Evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 is perfectly captured here. Dunkirk is why we still go to the movies. It’s one of the most intense movies I’ve ever seen and is one of the reasons to get out and see it in IMAX. Other war films try add sweeping music to add an emotional effect or certain camera angles to drum up more dramatic suspense.

Film Review: ‘Jane’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 6th, 2017

There’s a new documentary from filmmaker Brett Morgen, which means you should pay attention to it and do everything you can to see it. Morgen made the two documentaries ‘The Kid Stays in the Picture‘ and ‘Cobain: Montage of Heck‘, meaning he knows exactly how to tell a compelling story and inform you on the intimacies of his subjects. His newest documentary is simply called ‘Jane‘ and focuses on Jane Goodall and her first foray into the chimpanzee study in Africa. What comes out of this documentary is pure bliss, joy, and wonder as we see a young Jane coexist with the wild chimps, which ultimately brought her to worldwide fame for showing us that we might share more than one or two things with our fellow primates.

A Deeper look into the ‘The Holiday’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 21st, 2017

In 2006 a little movie by the name of ‘The Holiday’ was released unto the world from the place where all darkness flows. It now signifies the start of “Holiday Movie Season” for countless women across the globe. I believe it is solely responsible for the Hallmark Channel’s holiday film slate every November-December. However, the imitators don’t even come close to the unique mess this film is. I actually don’t think I’ve seen the movie in one full sitting the past 5 years but it has been in such a rotation in my home that I’ve caught it in enough chunks to have seen it at least 10-12 full times since it came out in 2006. I really want to break down the absurdity of this movie to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

The Ryan Gosling Jacket Investigation!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 13th, 2017

Written By: Dan Moran….

There have been tweets and style articles written about Ryan Gosling’s jackets over the past year, but after seeing Blade Runner 2049 last night, are we sure he’s ever read a script? Would it really be so ridiculous to assume that almost every role that Ryan Gosling has ever played was based on his agent just laying two jackets out and Ryan deciding which one was better? More importantly, is Ryan Gosling even a good actor? Are we sure his jackets aren’t giving him this power?

An investigation has been opened.

Blu-ray Review: ‘A Ghost Story’!

THE FILM

(This film review portion is written by Audrey Evans.)

Fresh off the wings of his most commercial movie to date, Pete’s Dragon (2016), Director David Lowery floats back to his Indie roots with the dreamy fantasy drama, ‘A Ghost Story.’  This ponderous portrait of life, loss and existence will undoubtedly make art enthusiasts coo over its alluring framework and vision, but for those anticipating an intensely haunting experience, be prepared for more mood than material. Time is of the essence in this story; the right state of mind and patience will reward you, that is, if you’re still alert before the leisurely picture reaches its point.

Film Review #2: Wonder Woman!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 31st, 2017

Dan M., here….

Wonder-Woman-Diana-in-the-trenches

Let’s cut to the chase, Wonder Woman is great and one of the best modern superhero origin movies ever made. It deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the original Superman, Batman Begins, Iron Man, etc. It is a nearly flawless introduction to a truly interesting character who cannot only carry her own film but will hopefully help carry future DC films the way Iron Man does with Marvel ones.

Blu-ray Review: GET OUT!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 25th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

NE2UEHKXb05S62_1_1

THE FILM

When you say the name Jordan Peele, you would most likely think of the brilliant comedic stylings of Key and Peele or Peele’s time on MadTV. You might even crack a big smile, thinking of Peele’s recent film Keanu. But I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t think of the words “horror maestro” when you see Jordan Peele’s name come across the screen. And that’s exactly what Peele can add to his resume résumé with his new movie Get Out, which he wrote and directed for the genre mogul Blumhouse.

Powers Boothe

June 1, 1948 – Mar 14, 2017

When great entertainers pass away, it’s difficult to come up with the right way to mourn a life that still lives on for us in so many ways. The one way we can not just respect the life, but continue to enjoy the life they lived is with re-watching their movies that cement their presence in our lives.

Film Review: ‘Monster Trucks’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 11th, 2017

Joel H., here…

monster-trucks-movie-cgi-creature

Remember what it was like to dream? I’m not referring to our current dreams of better jobs, or more money, or a new car, but dreaming without restriction? As a kid, I dreamed several times of experiencing that bicycle flight in front of the moon with E.T. at the helm. I dreamed of discovering pirate gold and sneaking a kiss from my older brother’s girl like Mikey. I sat in spaceships and fighter jets made of cardboard boxes. I gave life and personality to a slew of GI Joe’s, even little green army men with no functional limbs. I dreamed. There was no lack of depth to those dreams. No impending Trump administration. No knowledge that the guns used for pretend are replicates of actual war machines taking lives every single day. My simple imagination was rampant without knowing otherwise, but I grew up.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2016-09-07 at 10.48.46 AM

Short films have always held a special place in my heart, because I believe that short films pave the way for amazing talented filmmakers to showcase their work on small budgets to the masses. Sometimes, these filmmakers and their short films move ahead to become feature length films and win Oscars, thus setting the stage for original and fresh filmmaking. It’s a great way to seek out new talent in hopes for a very promising future for film in general in the most unlikely places.

WWE Payback 2016: What to Expect!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 30th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

payback-2016-poster-2

It’s that time of year again for the PPV after Wrestlemania, which is known as Payback. Normally, this is a rather lackluster PPV when compared to the rest of the WWE events throughout the year, and this particular one seems no different, despite a couple of matches. I do expect some good moments, but I don’t expect a ton of titles to change hands here, if any really. Not only that, but we still have a ton of WWE Superstars out, including John Cena, Seth Rollins, Neville, and Randy Orton. You can add to that list Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, and Triple H not showing up, as well as The New Day not having a match either, however the latter will most likely do some promos. In other words, this just doesn’t seem like an exciting PPV at the moment. I hope I’m wrong. Maybe, just maybe Shinsuke Nakamura will show up and wrestle for two hours. Then again, maybe they’ll bring back ‘Firefly‘. Side note: why is Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt family on the poster for Payback, but they don’t have a match?

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Texas-Chainsaw-2-Blu-ray

THE FILM

The original ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘ is one of the best horror films of all time. It still holds that title to this day. One thing most people don’t realize though is that the original film was made in such a way to evoke terror and horror, that it was filmed in such a manner as to show almost not gore, blood, or violence. It was all left off-screen for the most part. In return, this was a low-budget independent horror film that was fast-paced, horrific, and wildly entertaining, if not scary-as-hell. It truly is one of the perfect horror movies. some twelve years later, the original director Tobe Hooper came back and directed a sequel titled ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre II‘.

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Film Review: ‘Black Mass’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 8.01.58 PM

It’s okay to look at ‘Black Mass‘ as a distant sequel to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ movies. Both have bad guys, wars, guns, monsters, and Johnny Depp. Maybe I’m reaching a bit there, but it’s still fun to think about them as distant cousins in movies. The story of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger has been told a lot, especially recently. If you’re unfamiliar with who Bulger is, he was one of the most vicious and heinous human beings to ever walk the planet. He was even the FBI’s Most Wanted man for more than a decade, as he spent most of his time in Boston as a mafia boss who committed murder amongst other things.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Complete Series!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 19th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

91BNj35rUrL._SL1500_

THE SERIES

I remember when the pilot episode for ‘Boardwalk Empire‘ aired on HBO back in 2010, which was directed by Martin Scorsese. After the episode aired, I said to my friends, “that was one of the best pilots to any television show I had ever seen.” They all seemed to agree. What followed was five season of some of the best storytelling set in the prohibition era of America, complete with historical figures and gangsters. It was almost like it was ‘Goodfellas‘, but set in the early 1920s. The series followed Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), who was based on a real guy, who secretly controlled the Boardwalk in Atlantic City and bribed politicians and presidents to make his rise to power much easier.

Watching Steak (R)evolution just once was enough to give me sympathy pains for the troops of Noriega. In fact, I imagine this film might just be added to the torture device database.

Bryan’s Best and Worst of 2014 List!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Wright_39_s_Top_10_Films_of_2014

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2014 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2014 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2014 with some added categories down at the bottom. I believe this year I watched over 145 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some chocolate snacks covered in marshmallow cream, I finally had a TOP 10. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

There is a new documentary that is currently being made called ‘Haunters‘, which is being made by Jon Schnitzer. This documentary looks all sorts of fun as it looks to be the ultimate look inside how some of the scariest Haunted Houses are made across the country. I’m not talking about real haunted houses. I’m talking about the fun Haunted Houses that we all go to during the Halloween season. Some are truly scary and some are fairly laughable. ‘Haunters‘ seems to dive into how each haunted house is made, along with the costumes, make up effects, digital effects, and actors who make a living, performing in these scary houses.

‘The Purge 3’ In Development Stage!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 6th, 2014

Universal, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes are beginning development on a third visit to a world where ‘The Purge‘ is a yearly event. If you’ve been in a cave the last few years, I’ll give you the high points. March 21 at 7pm until March 22 at 7am, is the annual purge. This is 12 hours where every crime imaginable is legal, police do not respond and emergency help of any kind is only what your neighbor is willing to do for you. Most families lock themselves away from the evil that lurks just outside the door. Yes, this is the movie franchise that began scaring communities when moronic teenagers began promoting the event for Louisville, KY in what turned out to be a hoax.

Film Review: ‘The Giver’!!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Here we are with yet another Young Adult franchise that is based off a series of books. This time around, we have Phillip Noyce’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 big selling book ‘The Giver‘. I can’t believe it’s been more than twenty years since that book came out. If you are unfamiliar with the story, don’t feel left out, for you have probably seen or heard this story a few times before. ‘The Giver‘ takes place in a man-mad Utopia of sorts where people are void of human emotion by choice and force, thus no violence or wars could happen again.

Plans were made for the man to begin filming the ending of his trilogy of ‘Clerks‘ in May. Unfortunately for us…and the world as a whole, this is not meant to be at this time. Smith gave a statement that The Weinstein Company, who own the rights to the franchise, passed on the sequel. There is no way they could have heard him correctly! This is ‘Clerks’ to the third power! I’m not sure why there was an idiotic woman behind me, applauding and yelling “Woooo”, every time an autobot was on screen, but it happened throughout Michael Bay’s fourth installment of his ‘Transformers‘ franchise. Let me assure you, there is absolutely NOTHING to applaud or cheer for in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘. If you weren’t sure if Michael Bay couldn’t get any worse as a filmmaker, think again. He outdoes himself here and tries to throw all of his tricks into one bag, leaving us with a film that can only be described as ‘shit with big explosions’.

From the big cult success of that film, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim picked up the storyline in the form of an animated series. Needless to say, the series was just as good as the film. Hell, the first episode had Black Dynamite fighting an evil version of The Jackson Five. The series will be available July 15, on Blu-ray and DVD and will Include the 10 First Season Episodes Plus  a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette, and an Original Pilot and Video Commentaries.

Hello, Jana here,

simpsons-family-couch

Which TV show has been on air for 25 years and has just been sold into syndication for a whopping $750 million? If you answered ‘The Simpsons‘ you were right. The newly announced sister network to FX, FXX is going to begin airing with the animated satire. If you’re starting a new broadcast and want to get viewer attention a series marathon is always a good way to do it. If you want the network to be talked about you plan a 12-day marathon that comprises 552 episodes. The high price-tag for the series will not only give network syndication rights, but a first time availability for on-demand viewing.

Film Review: ‘Divergent’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 20th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

DIVERGENT

Ok, I’ll admit it. My name is Bryan Kluger, and I’m a Young Adult Movie virgin. I’ve never seen a ‘Twilight‘ movie nor have I seen either of ‘The Hunger Games‘ yet. And to be perfectly honest, I have not yet read any of these books that the movies were based on. Part of it is that I never got around to it while another part was that these stories didn’t really interest me. With ‘Twilight‘, my personal preference is to have my monsters whether they be vampires or werewolves, go on a nightly bender, wreaking havoc and killing for blood, only to have a hero stop their evil thirst and put them in their place. They are not to have vampires who wear glitter and talk about their feelings for three hours. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

If the words, “ a long time ago, we used to be friends, but I haven’t thought of you lately at all,” make you feel nostalgic for a blond super sleuth, you are a fan of Rob Thomas’ underappreciated show Veronica Mars, which ran for three seasons (2004-2007). For those of you who didn’t watch the show, do not fear – Veronica Mars, the movie, will make you a convert.

South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin is known for being the cool place to be for music, movies, and tech every March. And it’s now starting to branch out into the art scene.  For last 2 years Mondo Gallery, a collectible art boutique with a rabid fan base and part of the uber popular Alamo Drafthouse, has had gallery openings during SXSW with lines of buyers, stretching for blocks, waiting for hours, and in some cases, days.

Ok “Walking Dead” fans, I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the same thing happening in every episode with only a few little things to report. The whole cast just needs to magically find each other and deal with their emotional problems soon, or I’m likely to to throw something at my television. With that being said, let us dive into this episode which I have just renamed to “The Escape From the Crap House.”

Jana B. here,

Image: A protester reacts as the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi burns

How do we know what took place when we were not there to witness an event? We wait for the movie to come out. The more common way is we wait for the book to come out, then someone writes a movie based off the actual events. Historical movies make big money so it’s not surprising that a book describing the first hand account of the Benghazi attack is in the works. It’s also not surprising that Paramount is already negotiating to purchase film rights to the book that hasn’t even been released, yet.

I cannot wait till March 14th, as that is when the ‘Veronica Mars‘ movie will be released in theaters. I’m a huge fan of the tv show, and was super excited when this project hit it’s crowd funded goal in less than 24 hours. The trailer looks amazing and brings back everybody from the tv show for another ‘Veronica Mars‘ adventure and thriller.  Enjoy the trailer.

Film Review: ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 12th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

desolation-of-smaug-dragon

And we’ve arrived in the 2nd year of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘, and let me tell you, it’s a big improvement on the last film, which was released the same time last year. First off, we don’t have to spend a half hour inside Bilbo’s home with thirteen dwarves eating, drinking, and singing songs about washing dishes and Bilbo’s unhappy attitude. In this sequel things start off fast and to the point, which is sure to excite all audiences. Still, adapting J.R.R Tolkien’s less than 300 page novel into three separate films might be a bit much, but damn if it isn’t fun and highly entertaining this time around with a giant fire breathing dragon, some epic battles, a familiar elf, and an escape from orcs that I could watch 100 times in a row and never tire of. Just like the previous films set in Middle Earth, I expect another billion dollars for Jackson and co.

Discovery Channel To Document Life Of Evel Knievel!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2013

Jana B., Here….

Evel Knievel

Discovery channel has found a new topic they hope will garner something close to the 13 million viewers it received when Nick Wallenda walked a wire crossing the Colorado River Gorge, broadcasting his running dialogue with God back in June.  The documentary centers on the controversial life of none other than the motorcycle daredevil, himself, Evel Knievel. The documentary is set to air October 14 and is entitled ‘True Evel‘, which is being produced for Discovery Channel by Kowalski TV with Craig Coffman serving as executive producer for Discovery.

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer Are Clueless Idiots!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

 lone_ranger_810

I don’t usually write open letters like this on the site, but I feel like I need to with the recent statements Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer made about American film critics. Their remarks about the press and journalists are asinine, childish, and unprofessional. I get that everyone is entitled to their opinion and are free to say whatever they feel like. But what Depp and Hammer said was wrong.

Film Review: ‘Fruitvale Station’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 19th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

 fruitvale-station-trailer-05112013-112150

What a rough movie to get through. After the credits rolled and the lights came up in the theater, there was not a dry eye in the house. Instead of a documentary, we have a narrative account on the real life murder of Oscar Grant, an incident that occurred on New Years Night in 2009 that sparked large protests and riots in Oakland and around the country. In his first feature film effort, director Ryan Coogler takes us through the life of Grant in the hours leading up to his untimely murder. Major Hollywood figures have been involved in this case with Forest Whitaker serving as producer on the film and Octavia Spencer playing the role of Grant’s mother. This film needs to be seen by everyone and I wish I could buy everyone a ticket to see ‘Fruitvale Station’.

Film Review: ‘Only God Forgives’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Only-God-Forgives-Red-Band-Trailer-You-Wanna-Fight

I’ll be the first to admit that Nicolas Winding Refn’s movie ‘Drive‘, starring Ryan Gosling was one of my favorite films of that year. It was original, fresh, had a killer soundtrack, and had a wonderful and colorful cast of characters. I own the Blu-ray, soundtrack, and even stickers from the movie. Needless to say, when I heard that Refn was making another film in the same vein called ‘Only God Forgives‘, I was excited with pure joy and couldn’t wait to see it. Not only was it going to star Ryan Gosling and amp up the violence and suspenseful situations to eleven, but it was going to take place in Thailand and pack enough blood for two films. Man, was I dead-wrong about this film and sorely disappointed.
