Hey guys, Jana here, If you’re a Neil Gaiman fan, you’ve been watching the progress of the ‘Good Omens‘ adaptation, from Amazon and BBC2,with unbridled excitement as he’s been posting updates on his Twitter  feed . For those of you unaware, ‘Good Omens‘, which is technically titled ‘Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch‘, and it’s co-written by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. These are not two lightweight authors that had to team up to get a book published, but rather, two literary giants that chose to bless us with their combined greatness.

Gaiman has been writing since 1984 and has come up with some of the most remarkable and fascinating stories that have made their way to the screen. Some of the more notable contributions are 2007’s ‘Stardust‘, 2009’s animated tale of ‘Coraline‘ and last year’s adaptation of Gaiman’s ‘American Gods‘ to name a few.

Terry Pratchett has dozens of works credited to him before his death in 2015. He was an incredibly prolific writer with ‘Discworld‘ having more than 40 novels in the series. There have been several attempts to bring some of his titles to film adaptation with little to no success despite there being a decent amount of interest.

Good Omens‘ was sent to press for the first time in May of 1990, and tells the story of which the witch Agnes Nutter predicts in 1655, and recorded in The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter before she exploded. She goes to tell us that not only will the world end, but it will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact, just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel, Aziraphale played by Michael Sheen, and a fast-living demon, Crowley played by David Tennant—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

The pictures Gaiman has been sharing of the shooting process are so exciting and we still have more casting information coming our way, too. The most recent announcement is that Jon Hamm is stepping into the project to play the Archangel Gabriel. Here’s what the ‘Mad Men‘ alum has to say about his involvement in the project – “I read Good Omens almost twenty years ago. I thought it was one of the funniest, coolest books I’d ever read. It was also, obviously, unfilmable. Two months ago Neil sent me the scripts, and I knew I had to be in it.”

One last piece of information that is pretty remarkable, if you haven’t read the book, yet, or just want a refresher on the particulars, Google has a new option where if you search for the book, it will take you one step further and even cross-reference the book with your local libraries so you know if it’s available. We know the final product will be available in 2018, but we can’t narrow it down any more than that, regardless – this chick is excited!

  1. I read Good Omens over 20 years ago, and I remember laughing out loud while reading it. I wasn’t aware that this was being made, and with such an incredible cast. I’m so excited I think I’ll reread the book again in anticipation…
