Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Since it’s Friday and this is the 13th installment of the Favorite Movie Scene of the Day, it made sense to pick a scene from the iconic Friday the 13th franchise. Out of the 12 films, where does one begin to pick a scene? There are so many great death scenes, ridiculous dialogue, and tits flying around with blood, that I need to just make a montage of everything I love about this franchise. I just don’t have the time right now. It’s unfortunate that it’s rather difficult to find all of the films in one place these days.

A few years ago, there was a big Blu-ray set that featured all the movies, but now that set is out-of-print and goes upwards of $200 online. Unless I spend the same amount buying them individually across multiple formats, I can’t watch all these movies yet. (This is a cry to Scream Factory to release a big set again.) Moving on though, there is a recent video game of Friday the 13th that came available across multiple consoles that fans are talking about. It’s a multi-player game where you can play with 8 people, 7 of which are camp counselors and 1 is selected to play as Jason. The goal is to survive the 30 minute time limit if you’re a counselor or if you’re the masked killer, slay your prey. It’s a fun game, despite the early flaws and is renewed interest in the Friday the 13th franchise, which began in 1980. So what scene am I thinking of?

Well, the scene comes from Part IV, which was titled Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, which of course was not the final chapter. The studio wanted to end the franchise with this film in 1984, due to the producer not liking his name attached to the movie series. What a wanker! So the script was made to kill Jason off once and for all, which is the scene I picked. It’s an insane scene for sure with a very young Corey Feldman playing Tommy Jarvis, who became the arch rival to Jason for many films. Jarvis in this Part IV is not even a teenager yet, but he shaves his head like Jason to distract him, where Trish hits Jason in the face with a machete. That’s not all though. Tom Savini wanted to make Jason’s death so gruesome that one simple slash to the face wouldn’t do.

As you can see below, Jason is hit with the machete, causing him to fall down to the floor where his face slowly slides down the machete blade, slicing his flesh and brains off. I still yell out for joy here. After that, the young Tommy Jarvis goes to town some more on Jason. In the end, Part IV made over $33 million on a $2.5 million budget and went onto make 8 more sequels in the cinema world. What makes this special is that at the time, this was supposed to be the last image of Jason Vorhees, all the while a young kid who shaved his head to look like the supernatural killer is on the loose. Corey Feldman of all people. You can’t make that up. Enjoy!
