Michel Faber’s last novel, ‘The Book of Strange New Things‘, is being adapted to series for Amazon. The sci-fi drama concerns an English priest who is sent to the planet of Oasis to teach its reclusive native inhabitants about Christianity. Matt Charman (‘Bridge of Spies‘) will write and exec produce the project while Kevin Macdonald directs the 60 minute pilot.
The cast is being assigned with a few members already in place, Haley Joel Osment (‘The Sixth Sense‘) has just signed to join their ranks. Osment will play Sy, a man who used to grow large quantities of marijuana before being recruited to work on the new colony as chief botanist. Richard Madden (‘Game of Thrones‘) stars as Peter the priest, is attached to topline the series with Stephen Jennings and Jeandré Wentzel appearing as well.
