by Janet White on Sep 30th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

This is for all you conspiracy nuts out there. The trio of Matt Johnson, Owen Williams, and Josh Boles brings you a big historical “What if?” Did Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins really land on the moon? Operation Avalanche (still don’t understand the code name) presents an almost convincing counter to the history books. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘RAW’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

1-zkonh7qleuq1z_ecz0plg

RAW‘ made me remember why I love movies. I can’t wait for you all to feast your eyes and stomachs on first time French director Julia Ducournau’s masterpiece in cinema, simply titled ‘RAW‘. Julia takes an overly done genre trope (cannibalism) and completely makes it fresh, organic, and ready to serve to the masses in a very beautiful, elegant, and most disturbing way in which a young woman is on a coming-of-age quest in her life and discovers her sexual side as well as a new appetite.

FILM REVIEW: “THE GREASY STRANGLER”

by Justin Cline on Sep 26th, 2016

Justin C. here,..

Correct me if I’m wrong, but at one time the term “cult film” referred to a movie that failed at the box office during its initial release but eventually found its niche, either through home video release (The Evil Dead) or midnight screenings (The Rocky Horror Picture Show). Nowadays, it seems as if certain filmmakers have grown disinterested in commercial success and are instead targeting that fringe audience they consider underserved by mainstream fare.

Such is the case with The Greasy Strangler. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Arrival’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

amyadamsarrival

Not to be confused with ‘The Arrival‘ with a young Charlie Sheen, although both of these films involve visitors from another planet, the simply titled ‘Arrival‘ takes the alien invasion genre into paths that we’ve never traveled down before. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario), instead of giant cities falling to the ground and millions of people disintegrating into thin air by a laser beam, ‘Arrival‘ follows the path of two people who want to find a way to communicate with the new aliens that have seemed to land at twelve different locations on planet Earth. Set in present day, multiple giant alien spacecrafts land on Earth, where the governments around the globe put their best and brightest on the job to try and communicate with the new visitors.

Rarely though, horror films tend to stick in my mind long after viewing that have a lingering haunting effect that will cause me to sweat or choose not to walk down a dark hallway. I’m happy to say that the fresh and original horror film ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe‘ will terrify me for the coming weeks. John Travolta stars in Director Chuck Russell’sI Am Wrath,” which follows the story of a former black ops agent that is out for vengeance on a biblical scale, after his wife is murdered by a group of thugs.  Not exactly a newbie to the scene, Russell has directed a handful of moderately successful movies such as “The Mask,” “Eraser” and even the third installment of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.  This movie meets the standards set by his previous films; Not exactly a good movie, but not bad, either.

Film Review: ‘Blair Witch’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 14th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

neon_0001_large

Seventeen years later, we have journeyed back into the Black Woods in Burkittsville, Maryland to seek out the Blair Witch. Back in 1999, one of the first examples of viral marketing came splashing on the scene with ‘The Blair Witch Project‘, where we saw trailers of faux police interviews and news reports that three college kids went missing in the woods and the footage that was found was real. Filmed all with a handheld camera in first person back in 1999, this film was one of the first movies to deal with the “found footage” aspect and it worked to great effect as everyone thought the film and people in it were real. It was highly effective and scary-as-hell and became a cult-phenomenon and paved the way for tons of “found footage” movies.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Conjuring 2’

THE FILM

It seems like a ton of horror movies come out every year, and most times, they don’t live up to their potential. There are a handful of horror movies over the last decade that really satisfy us horror fans. Films like ‘The Babadook‘, ‘It Follows‘, and ‘The Conjuring‘ will still be talked about for years to come. One name in the horror genre, or at least in recent years is James Wan. This man burst onto the scene with ‘Saw‘, which was basically genre changing and spawned a ton of sequels. Wan also made a few other horror films, all testing the bounds and pushing us into a new horror direction, while still respecting his influences.

The 19 second preview doesn’t give us a lot of info to go on, but will pique the interest of enough fans that they will be waiting on the edge of their seats for the official trailer release tomorrow.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

If you know anything about Troma or ‘The Toxic Avenger‘, you would know that their films and Toxie is not for the faint of heart or for a mainstream audience by any means.

In news I thought I’d never report on, Hollywood is making a Chris Benoit biopic with Lexi Alexander (Green Street Hooligans, Punisher: War Zone) in the director’s chair. if you’re unfamiliar with the name Chris Benoit, I’ll give you a little background. Film Review: ‘Sully’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 8th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

sully_still

We all remember what took place in New York on January 15th, 2009. Pilots Captain Chelsey ‘Sully’ Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles took an Airbus A320 with 155 passengers aboard out of LaGuardia Airport to their destination. However, a couple of minutes after takeoff, a freak accident with a flock of birds took out both engines of the airplane, leaving the Airbus without any power and no airport immediately in range to land. Making a calculated decision to save everyone’s life, Sully was forced to land the plane in the very cold waters of the Hudson River.

A project that can certainly fall into the category of longest gestating reboots is ‘The Crow‘. Since 2008, the plans have been in in the works for a re-imagining of the 1994 film, which itself was based on a comic book series in the late 1980’s by James O’Barr. There were dozens of actors attached to the lead role of Eric Draven from Bradley Cooper to Norman Reedus with a lot of stops in between. The man we’ll see take on the undead vigilante role is officially Jason Momoa!!

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2016-09-07 at 10.48.46 AM

Short films have always held a special place in my heart, because I believe that short films pave the way for amazing talented filmmakers to showcase their work on small budgets to the masses. Sometimes, these filmmakers and their short films move ahead to become feature length films and win Oscars, thus setting the stage for original and fresh filmmaking. It’s a great way to seek out new talent in hopes for a very promising future for film in general in the most unlikely places.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Captain America: Civil War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

61GKKp2eMaL

THE FILM

The ‘Civil War‘ story line in the Marvel Universe is one of the better story lines in recent memory in all of Marvel. It pitted your favorite superheroes against each other and caused some real havoc, before taking on a much bigger enemy. The day has finally come when that comic book miniseries is put up on the big screen in a very large way with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. This is the third ‘Captain America‘ movie, and a lot of you will wonder why this isn’t just an ‘Avengers 3’ film since most of the ‘Avengers’ show up here throughout the movie. You might be right, but in a big way, this is really Captain America’s movie that shows us just how Steve Rogers ticks.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Cabin Fever (2016)’!

The Film

Director Travis Z’s remake of Eli Roth’s cult classic horror flick “Cabin Fever” is a movie that I wanted to like, but could find no redeeming qualities in.  This movie bills itself as a gory, horror-comedy, and fails to provide either scares or laughs.  The acting is wooden, the characters are idiotic and un-relatable and even the gore fails to deliver.   Sigh… I do love me some over-the-top gore, but sadly, the gross-factor was completely lackluster in this film and did nothing to redeem the rest of the movie.
