Interview with Varèse Sarabande!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 28th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Varèse-Sarabande-logo

I had the extreme pleasure to talk with Cary Mansfield (the guy who runs the Pop/Soundtrack section of Varèse Sarabande), and discuss the resurgence of vinyl, soundtracks, Record Store Day, and some new releases. Mr. Mansfield has been working for Varèse Sarabande for over 21 years and has seen the uprising of the digital age of media and music, the fall of analog and vinyl, and of course its resurrection over the last few years, as he sheds some light onto the format, along with some really cool and upcoming titles.

Film Review: ‘Legend’!!

by Janet White on Nov 28th, 2015

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Legend - Court Twins

Moon rises on the London cityscape and thus begins the true tale of the Kray Brothers of the 1960s narrated by Frances Shea Kray (Emily Browning).  A car comes toward you, traveling down the narrow streets of London.  Behold, the identical twin brothers, Ron and Reggie Kray (Tom Hardy as both), the most notorious gangsters of the East End of London.  The Kray Brothers ran first their beloved East End and they worked their way through London.

Film Review: ‘Victor Frankenstein’!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

captain-america-civil-war-image-65

We have the first trailer for the highly anticipated ‘Civil War‘ film from Marvel, which will basically be the third ‘Captain America‘ film. This Civil War story line was one of the finest story arcs in Marvel from the past fifteen years and ran in the 2006-2007 time period. It basically splits up the Marvel heroes as some pick sides to side with the government, unmask themselves, and report to a variety of government officials.

Film Review: ‘The Good Dinosaur’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

maxresdefault

This year marks the first time that Pixar released to feature films in the same year. Usually, Pixar releases one film every year or two, but in 2015, we got both ‘Inside Out‘ and this new Thanksgiving release ‘The Good Dinosaur‘. There was good reason for this second release as well, as this might have been the first Pixar movie to ever have a troubled history of production. Back in 2009, Bob Peterson came up with the story and was set to direct ‘The Good Dinosaur‘ a couple of years later.

Hey guys, Jana here,

GOLDEN GLOBES TOM CRUISE WITH AWARD

Universal has made no secret about their wanting to re-launch their original monster universe. You know, The Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, all the favorites, and why not? These are great stories that can be excellent every time they’re retold. What will make the difference now, besides having a damn good special FX team, is the star. You’ve got to have some massive star-power to anchor a film of this magnitude, especially if it’s the first of their reboots on the monster series, they want it to go off with a global bang.

Film Review: ‘Creed’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Creed-Movie-Rocky-Trailer

Another year, another ‘Rocky‘ movie. Some of you might be saying, “When is enough, enough?” More times than not, you might be right with any string of sequels that goes back the third installment, particularly with the ‘Rocky‘ franchise. Sure, the first ‘Rocky‘ film from 1976 was spectacular, and arguably one of the better movies ever made. It even won a ton of Oscars that year, including Best Picture. ‘Rocky II‘ came shortly after, which was still excellent, but starting with ‘Rocky III‘, things got silly and the films lost some focus. Still, audiences world wide packed theater houses to see the Italian Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) underdog his way up to the top, never quitting and giving his best. It’s a great message.

Knight of Cups‘ comes from writer/director Terrence Malick and stars Christian BaleCate Blanchett and Natalie Portman and hits big screens on March 4. The production of this project was a little different for everyone involved. Christian Bale just got a character description with no lines, some characters received lines with the option to use any or all they desired. Everything captured on film was an organic reaction to the situations they were presented with.

Grease: Live‘ has been in the works for a while and I, for one, have been incredibly skeptical as to how a live TV performance can hold a candle to the movie I can quote in my sleep and hold on a pedestal of awesome. Remembering the live version of ‘Peter Pan’ with Christopher Walken and just how incredibly un-wowed (I think that’s a word!), I was. Then it hit me, I’m trying to compare the performances movie = movie instead of looking at it how I should have, as a filmed theatre performance. So now, after seeing the first pics released from the show, I might be able to appreciate this in a whole new light.

Hey guys, Jana here,

lost-in-space

For years, we’ve heard rumblings in the deepest pockets of space that the 1960’s sci-fi series ‘Lost in Space‘ was getting a remake. They even released a movie in 1998, 30 years after the series was relevant to most viewers. The response wasn’t enough to demand a sequel, but the concept of the show never went away. It was announced a few years ago that writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have been writing a script that will rejuvenate the series if it could only find a home.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Here we are with the final ‘Hunger Games‘ movie again, ‘Mockingjay’ Part II. With splitting the final chapter into two separate films, you’d think there’d be something worth waiting for or at least a big climax. None of that is found here with Part II, despite what anyone else tells you. I understand why the studio wanted to split the final film into two parts, which would garner double the money and profits off of one story, but in order to have a decent story and film, you need it to go somewhere. In this case, anywhere.

You can keep your smiley, sunny cheerful Cabbage Patch Kids, and your adorable, roly poly Popples, but you were not an awesome kid of the 80’s if you did not get on the Garbage Pail Kids wagon as it trundled through your childhood. That wagon rambled through stealing your innocence and replacing those trusting doe-eyes with some heavy skepticism. I loved them! Of course I did, it was the collector’s card version of ‘Happy Tree Friends‘ in a sense. They should be cute, should be safe, but they turn on you like a good ‘Goosebumps‘ novel would. GPK’s were the  in-your-face response to the aforementioned Cabbage Patch Kids craze that celebrated cuteness and like anything our parents deemed too gross or disgusting, the more glorious our search for these cards became. The Holy Grail was a shiny pack of brand new cards just waiting to be explored, would you get that coveted card none of your friends could get and you were all in a secret race to be the first?

Is anyone else sick of the remakes out there or is it just me? Based on the number of fans that trek to the local cineplex and plunk down heard-earned cash for a ticket to watch the new big thing which is just  remake of what the big thing was 20 years ago make me think I’m alone. Sometimes a remake comes along before it’s even 20 years old which just makes me all kinds of stabby. Especially when it’s done to such a well-made flick like ‘Memento‘. The directing juggernaut that is Christopher Nolan launched into Hollywood with this flick and it’s still a prime look at exemplary director skills. In a world of beating the same dead horse for movie ideas, this plot is fantastic in its originality, which may be one reason it’s been cherry-picked for a remake.

Netflix is, at this point, well established in the original series game so it comes as no surprise that their further efforts are drawing some serious star power. Brooklyn” is a sweet look at life in a 1950’s version of the borough for a young Irish immigrant. Saoirse Ronan plays Eilis, a naïve girl sent to America to find a better future and a life away from her small town with her devoted sister, played by Fiona Glascott.  While that is the over-all story being told here, it is also a story of a girl who meets boy. The movie itself is gorgeous and every location feels authentic, however the film drags in certain places, making it easy for the mind to wander at times.

It would be an understatement to say that a lot has happened over the last week in the WWE universe. What was supposed to happen was that the current WWE heavyweight champion Seth Rollins was going to defend the championship belt at the upcoming PPV ‘Survivor Series‘ against his former Shield partner Roman Reigns. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar, Undertaker, John Cena, and Randy Orton are out either on vacation or injured, which is a lot of top tier talent for the WWE.

‘John Wick 2’ Rounds Out Its Cast!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 9th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

john-wick-keanu-reeves

You know you can’t wait for ‘John Wick 2‘! Keanu Reeves and the filmmakers certainly surprised us with ‘John Wick‘, which is where a man goes on a killing rampage after a bunch of jerks kill his dog and steal his car. It’s basically what we would all want to do if someone did that to us. Most people are returning for the sequel that will have Wick (Reeves) take out a bunch of bad guys again, which the filmmakers from the first film did an excellent job with their cameras and story. It was one of the best action films in a long time. Read the review HERE!

Chloe Grace Moretz Boards ‘The Little Mermaid’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 7th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

Chloe-Grace-Moretz-07

The latest in the litany of film tendencies is the hugely popular live-action fairy tale. While Disney may have made a mint on pioneering the genre, they’re not the only film company to have made the jump. Working Title and Universal are working the prototype and their next title receiving the live-action treatment is ‘The Little Mermaid‘.

TV Show Review: ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ Ep. 2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 6th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Ash-vs-Evil-Dead-main

Ash vs. Evil Dead‘ had such a perfect pilot episode, that it would be difficult to follow that up with something as good. Luckily for all of us rabid fans, the second episode titled ‘Bait‘ doesn’t lose any steam whatsoever and packs as much if not more blood, guts, and hilarious one-liners from Ash (Bruce Campbell) in this second episode. It’s no wonder that Starz has already given this series a second season. It’s that good.

Check Out The ‘London Has Fallen’ Trailer!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 5th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

London-Has-Fallen-New-Banner-Poster-1

If there’s one thing this girl loves than anything else in a film, it’s crazily violent killing, explosions as far as the eye can see and completely preposterous settings that a character shouldn’t survive, but they always do! Basically, I love crappy 80’s action movies. Since I’ve seen most of those, I’m beyond excited for ‘London Has Fallen‘. Add to that a great cast consisting of Morgan Freeman, Gerard Butler, Angela Bassett and Aaron Eckhart and I’m going to be happy.

I wish I had better news here, but unfortunately I don’t. It seems that the current WWE Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has had a serious injury. This injury happened on Wednesday night’s Live event in Dublin, Ireland and is much worst than anyone anticipated. Rollins has torn his right ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus, according to ESPN commentator and former WWE star Jonathan Coachman.

Film Review: ‘The Peanuts Movie’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 5th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

la-et-mn-peanuts-schulz-family-20150421

It’s been 35 years since we last saw Charlie Brown and his friends grace screens with a new film, but in this era of reboots and bringing vintage and retro projects back to the limelight, 20th Century Fox has brought back the Peanuts in a big way. How big? A $100 million dollar CGI ‘Peanuts Movie‘, that’s how big. With director Steve Martino (‘Ice Age‘) and Charles Schulz’s kids Craig and Bryan Schulz writing and producing the film, this new look at ‘The Peanuts Movie‘ is quite satisfying for kids and adults alike.

James Franco is nothing if not incredibly busy, his latest project just wrapped which makes only 1 in 15 projects he has in varying degrees of completion, at the moment. ‘King Cobra‘ focuses on a murder in the adult entertainment industry in the early 2000s. DVD Review: ‘Shelby: A Magical Holiday Tail’!

by Janet White on Nov 4th, 2015

Hi Everyone, Janet W. here…

Shelby DVD

The film is so bright, you gotta wear SHADES.

Shelby is a cute little dog movie, and Shelby (Rob Schneider) is, cute. It is never explained how the puppy repeatedly escapes from the pound, and that’s half the battle so it was a little disappointing. A button is pushed, (surely by the dogcatcher (Tom Arnold)) and next thing you know a dog is running in the streets. This doesn’t make sense unless the dogcatcher wants a regular exercise regime to break the monotony of small town life (as is perceived from the film). During one of Shelby’s escapes, he runs into the Parker family (or is hit by Ed Parker (Jefferson Brown)) who are going to show us what Christmas is all about or at least try. Jon Stewart may have stepped away from the ‘Daily Show‘ but he’s not ready to be a full-time retiree, yet. Film Review: ‘Spectre’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 3rd, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

spectre-nbimagesopening-fbpic

The year 2015 marks the 24th ‘James Bond‘ film in the 007 franchise. It also marks the most expensive Bond film to date, which is also in the top two most expensive films ever made with a budget of over $300 million. Even in addition to that, this new 007 movie, titled ‘Spectre‘ is the longest running Bond film with a runtime of 148 minutes. With the billion dollar success and critical acclaim from ‘Skyfall‘ a couple of years ago, the studio and its executives thought it would be a good idea to go bigger and “better” on everything. That’s not always a good thing, as is the case with ‘Spectre‘, which is bloated and disappointing.
