Immediately following his wife’s funeral, Robert DeNiro’s Dick Kelly convinces his grandson Jason (Zac Efron) to go on a road trip to Florida, eventually landing at Daytona Beach during spring break. This puts a huge kink in plans for Jason who is a mere week away from marrying his boss’s daughter, Meredith (Julianne Hough), but the trip with grandpa, may change his plans, it has nothing to do with the accidental crack-smoking, I’m sure.

Hey guys, Jana here,

boondock_saints1

TV can make the unlikeliest of people stars and sometimes they just reiterate what we’ve known all along and prove to us who the stars really have been the whole time. Nothing shows this more clearly than AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead‘ and it’s star Norman Reedus. Reedus landed on my radar in 1999 when I first peeped one of the greatest films in the world, ‘The Boondock Saints‘, when he showed the world what a pair of Irish brothers can do when they’re on a mission from God. I’ve been watching Reedus since then through ‘Blade II‘, ‘The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day‘ and onto TWD and every film or TV role in between, no matter how small.

My visit to Wizard World’s Comicon in Tulsa, OK would not be complete without getting into the Sean Astin panel. There’s just something about the Rudy Hobbit I’ve always loved. He’s one of the first movie stars to take my breath away in ‘The Goonies‘ and he’s still going strong! Love this man! I don’t understand why Wizard World did not use the Grand Ballroom like they did last year, the Assembly Hall worked out well for some talent, but Astin deserved the big room! It was bursting beyond capacity while we waited for him to take the stage and he was funny, sincere and everyone’s best friend, just like we all expected him to be. He slipped in and out of character reciting lines as Samwise, giving Doug’s legendary lisp some good use from ‘50 First Dates‘, he was amazing to see and worth the price of admission on his own.

Film Review: ‘Burnt’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 27th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Screen Shot 2015-10-27 at 2.01.41 PM

Perhaps enough time has passed since Jon Favreau’s hit film ‘Chef‘ graced theaters for a new movie that has a lot of similarities to stand on its own. Then again, maybe it doesn’t. Originally, ‘Burnt‘ was actually titled ‘Chef‘, but of course had to change titles, but the story still remained in tact from director John Wells and writer Steven Knight (‘Locke‘). Billed as a comedy film with a chef played by Bradley Cooper, ‘Burnt‘ is like the steely ice cold, unfunny, heartwarming version of ‘Chef‘, which if you look at the bigger picture here, what’s really the point?

The WWE Universe waited in anticipation as the Pay Per View that bore the name of the most dreaded match unfolded before them (shown on the WWE Network for the low low monthly rate of $9.99 or free for the first month #BetterThanNetflix) The night saw every Championship defended, as well as honor defended and legends put to rest. The night was filled with ups and downs that kept one guessing and in the end, the WWE delivered as the most demonic structure in sports entertainment lived up to its hype. Did you miss it? Mike, Here…

wwe-hell-in-a-cell-ppv-wallpaper

There is a dark cloud of reality hanging over this Sunday’s Hell in a Cell

It started moving in last month, when Sting faced Seth Rollins in the main event at Night of Champions.

The story was that the Vigilante Sting, WCW’s greatest icon and the last soldier of the Monday Night War, magically appeared to challenge Rollins for the WWE Championship. Admittedly, he had already magically appeared once only to lose to Triple H, so there was slightly less magic than advertised. but Sting seemed to be enjoying himself and Rollins sold the idea of Sting being threatening well enough to make their match-up compelling.

It should then come as no surprise that the reimagining of ‘Jem and the Holograms‘ involves a viral video. Jerrica, being an overly shy singer-songwriter, records a song dressed in disguise as Jem. When her sister Kimber discovers the video on her camera, she secretly posts it to YouTube. The video goes viral and Jem is offered a record deal by THE Erica Raymond (Juliette Lewis) of Starlight Enterprises, which couldn’t have happened at a better time, since Jerrica’s aunt Bailey (Molly Ringwald) is about to lose their house. Jerrica accepts the offer, but only if her sisters get to come along as her band. Cue the makeover montage!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Just in time for Halloween, comes the latest action-horror movie, starring Vin Diesel, called ‘The Last Witch Hunter‘. With a budget of $90 million, you’ll be puzzled to see where all that money went after watching this awkward and slow-paced movie. Director Breck Eisner tries to weave a horror movie with some action set pieces, but the dialogue and script is fair at best, and besides the first five minutes of the film and the last ten minutes, nothing really happens.

Chris Rock Steps Up To Host 88th Academy Awards!!!

Hey guys, Jana here,

The 77th Annual Academy Awards - Photo Room

Have the Oscars lost a little of their glittery oomph that make it a night of royalty for Hollywood’s best and brightest? Maybe. One year it will be utterly entertaining, original and exciting, the next it feels forced, stale, boring and becomes the night that NEVER ends early enough. I’m sure there is a formula for success and the host is key. Imagine that the leaders of Wal-Mart suddenly snapped and created an invincible killing machine out of their famous smiling logo (not that far-fetched now that I think about it). Steve Jobs opens on a black and white video of a young boy listening with profound focus to a computer technician’s progressive response to the world’s potential journey towards a computer-dependent society.  Young Steve Jobs clearly had a desire for technological innovation in his blood even then.  Through his wide-eyed look, the turning of his mental wheels was easily discerned.  Even then, you could tell that Jobs had his mind set on a path to making the right computers a part of everyone’s everyday life.  Fast forward to the launch of the first Mac where an all-grown up Jobs (Michael Fassbender) is in a state of controlled panic (or was it frustration?).

Blu-ray Review: ‘Tomorrowland’!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

There’s one hell of a cast and crew at work here for Disney’s ‘Tomorrowland‘, which is loosely based on the famous theme park at Disney resorts. Directed by Brad Bird (‘The Incredibles‘, ‘Ratatouille), produced by Damon Lindelof (‘Lost‘ and ‘Star Trek‘), and starring George ClooneyHugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson, ‘Tomorrowland‘ is a throwback to those old innovative Disney films full of adventure. I felt like a kid again through its two hour run time as I was watching each suspenseful and fun moment on the IMAX screen. That being said, ‘Tomorrowland‘ does have a few problems, but fortunately the good outweighs the bad this time around.

Film Review: ‘Bridge of Spies’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 14th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

‘Bridge of Spies’ by DreamWorks Studios.

The year 2015 gives us yet another Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg movie called ‘Bridge of Spies‘ with an added bonus of the Coen Bros. serving as co-writers. Now with a cast and crew like this, I expect something that would live on forever and win all the awards come award season. That’s not really the case here though, as Spielberg’s recent directorial efforts have been lacking a bit. I’m not saying they’re bad, I’m just saying that ‘War Horse‘ and ‘Lincoln‘ were long, slow, dreary period pieces with no real momentum, despite some awards and critical acclaim.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

901718 - Goosebumps

I’m surprised that Hollywood hasn’t made a ‘Goosebumps‘ film yet. I would have expected one or three at least a decade ago, given that all of the horror books by R.L. Stine have sold millions of copies and continue to do so. I guess the time is right more now than ever though as Halloween is approaching. I remember reading a variety of these stories back when I was very young and always remembered those iconic covers of each book. I wouldn’t say that they books really did any permanent damage, scaring me, but they were quite fun and entertaining from what I remember.

Hey guys, Jana here,

BTTF1-Matt-Taylor

It’s almost time! October 21, 2015 is so close you can taste it. If you don’t know the significance of that date, you’re not too big of a ‘Back to the Future‘ fan, then. The date, of course is the destination Marty McFly traveled to in 1989’s ‘Back to the Future II‘.

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 8th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-rock1

Good news, to the millions….and MILLIONS of Rock fans. The Rock has been busy as of lately. Well, I think he’s always busy, as he has about a dozen movies coming out, his HBO show, and too many to count upcoming projects, including a remake of ‘Big Trouble in Little China‘. We’re still waiting on him to play a live-action Johnny Bravo, but it looks like WWE has moved The Rock from their alumni website to their active roster.

Film Review: ‘Pan’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 8th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

pan-movie

Pan opens with the star-filled, vastness, and seemingly infinite space a proper setting for our imaginations.  This is where the world began.  Fitting this would be the start of the story of one of literature’s most courageous young boy (sometimes a grown woman, remember Mary Martin played him, too), Peter Pan.  Pan is where Peter’s story began, long before he met Wendy, John, and Michael.  Peter was a baby left on the front steps of Lambeth’s Home for Boys in pre-World War I London.

WWE: ‘Hell in a Cell 2015’! What to Expect!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 6th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

wwe-hell-in-a-cell-ppv-wallpaper

We are only a few weeks away from ‘Hell in a Cell 2015‘, which will take place in Los Angeles, California at the Staples Center. If you recall, we went to ‘Hell in a Cell’ 2014 and wrote about it. Needless to say, we had a great time. WWE has been amping up the storylines and matches on Raw and Smackdown these past couple of weeks and now we have an updated title card for the PPV. This looks like it will be a great event with some solid matches lined up.

Seth Grahame-Smith Directing DC’s ‘The Flash’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 5th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

480x277_seth_grahamesmith

Seth Grahame-Smith  is putting some distance between himself and the novels that rocketed him to stardom (‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter‘ and ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies‘) by turning his eye to directing. The project in question isn’t an adaptation to one of his novels, but to ‘The Flash‘.

WWE: Wrestlemania 32 Tickets Go On Sale…..

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 5th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

maxresdefault

I’ve been talking about it for almost two years now and finally Dallas will host Wrestlemania of the 32nd kind! WWE just announced when tickets will go on sale, which will be November 6th, which is just about one month from this very day. Wrestlemania will be held at AT&T Stadium, which most likely will go down in history and break world records for the most attended event EVER. I’m expecting around 103,000 people there. Not much is known about matches, but I would venture to guess Stone Cold Steve Austin, HBK, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, and the Undertaker will all be in the ring at some point. Oh yes, and The Rock should be there as well or at least I hope. This will definitely be the biggest Wrestlemania yet. Official announcement below.

‘MacGyver’ Going to Re-boot for CBS!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 4th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

tvm170aq_edit

I’m trying to keep my personal thoughts to myself on the Hollywood re-make machine that anything successful seems to go into, but these announcements that keep coming make that a harder job than my will-power can topple, so here it is. One of the latest  re-makes is not going to be making a big-screen debut, but a small-screen opening that CBS is hoping will be just as big a hit the second time around as it was the first time, I’m talking about the original Mr. Fix-It and Granddaddy of the life hack, ‘Macgyver‘.

Short Film Review: ‘Trying Not To Explode’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 3rd, 2015

Jay S., Here…

trying_not_to_explode_2__large

Short films are some of my favorite forms of cinematic art.  Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Austin’s Fantastic Fest short film.  Fantastic Fest, as you no-doubt know, specializes in horror, fantasy, and sci-fi.  When “Trying not to Explode”, directed by Dave Dorsey, was described by a friend as “a story about one man’s struggles with spontaneous combustion,” it seemed to fit with Fantastic Fest’s programming, and I figured I was in for a shocker.  I was right.  But instead of being shocked by exploding infernos of human entrails flying across the screen (that was a different Fantastic Fest movie), I was shocked by the amazing heart, vulnerability, and tenderness of “Trying not to Explode.”

Film Review: ‘The Martian’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 1st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

martian-gallery3-gallery-image

It’s no doubt in my mind that director Ridley Scott was the perfect person to direct ‘The Martian‘, which was based off of Andy Weir’s 2011 novel of the same name. His brilliant story telling and eye to make a desolate planet like Mars look beautiful is simply majestic. Scott is mostly known for directing ‘Alien‘ and ‘Blade Runner‘, which kind of makes him one of the Godfather’s of science-fiction, but he has a few other gems on his resume too, all in different genres. With a movie like ‘The Martian‘ that is in the sci-fi realm, I was pleasantly surprised and overjoyed to find the film quite funny with a very feel-good quality to it, which is something that is not really present in Scott’s sci-fi movies.
