Hey guys, Jana here,

kevin-bacon-cop-car-focus-world-980x551-5730

Kevin Bacon may be forever cemented as Ren, the bad boy with an urge to dance but he has never shied away from exhibiting the dozens of layers that encompass his acting range. ‘Cop Car‘, where Bacon is the quintessential small-town sheriff who just oozes douchebaggery, torments and taunts two young boys that go for a joyride in Bacon’s abandoned patrol car in the woods.

Hey guys, Jana here,

point-break-poster-2015-888x489

The first trailer for the ‘Point Break‘ revamp is making waves. I’m not much of a fan of remakes to begin with, but when you take a Patrick Swayze movie that isn’t old enough to need re-telling and bastardize it, I get a little huffy.

WWE: Mike’s 2015 ‘Elimination Chamber’ Preview!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2015

Mike P., Here…

chamber

Confession: I recently confronted the possibility of taking a break from WWE. Or, if you’re being cynical, I briefly considered only watching the highlights of the 12th most important pay-per-view event of the year, while still watching several hours of WWE programming a week.

‘Ash Vs. Evil Dead’ Teaser Trailer is Here! Groovy!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

ash-vs-evil-dead-slice-600x200

You know how Bruce Campbell always said “Don’t ask about ‘Evil Dead IV’, because it isn’t happening?” Well, don’t take that to the bank, because it is definitely happening in the form of a TV series called ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead‘ for the Starz network. The show will star Bruce Campbell as Ash again and is a sequel to ‘Army of Darkness‘ (the best film ever made). This teaser trailer doesn’t show much, but it does have blood and a chainsaw in it, plus Campbell’s voice, which makes me all sorts of giddy. The series is shooting in New Zealand right now, and we expect more videos very soon. We can’t wait.

Film Review: ‘Felix and Meira’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

felix-and-meira

If you are one of the five (ok, six) people who saw If Lucy Fell then you understand the importance of subtlety and symbolism. In that film, Ben Stiller plays an “artist” who struggles with that very concept. All his “art” attempts to relay a message, which he claims hides beneath the surface. The problem is that his message is rather shallow and obvious to anyone with a pulse. To quote his character, it “symbolically sucks”. Felix and Meira, though not a train wreck of a film, suffers from the same problem.

Dallas Comic Con: ‘Insidious 3’: The 4D Experience!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

For someone who scares easily, the Insidious 4D experience was made for me. Actually, for a short ten minute trip through the small space it occupies, it’s a great scare. The tour manager Josh Randall found out that I scream like a girl, so he sent me in first.

Film Review: ‘Aloha’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

aloha

I am saying “Aloha” to Aloha, but it’s not a hello.  It’s a disappointing goodbye.  Aloha begins with the return to Hawaii of Brian Gilcrest (Bradley Cooper), a former soldier that suffered a horrendous missile attack.  This fact is hard to believe since Cooper is inconsistent in his performance of this impairment.  One minute Gilcrest is somewhat struggling as he walks and the next minute he is effortlessly able to lollygag along the street in a love montage.  Due to his shady history of embezzlement, Gilcrest is assigned a military watchdog Captain Allison Ng (Emma Stone).  Captain Ng is hyper, anal, dry, and in love and proud of Hawaii and her ¼ Hawaiian heritage.  She also greatly admires Gilcrest for his achievements in space, technology, physics or something.  His expertise is not really clear in the film.  During Gilcrest’s previous time in Hawaii he fell in love with Tracy Woodside (Rachel McAdams).  Gilcrest suddenly left Woodside hanging.  What will happen when he sees her again and she him?

Film Review: ‘San Andreas’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

San-Andreas-3D-Movie-Wiki-563x353

It’s certainly been a while since we got to sit through an epic disaster film that featured earthquakes, volcanoes, twisters, a giant monster lizard, or even a ‘Sharknado‘. Luckily for us, the summer of 2015 has given us ‘San Andreas‘, a full-scale earthquake action picture starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. It shouldn’t be any surprise that director Brad Peyton has teamed up with The Rock again for this disaster flick since their previous ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island‘ did so well. Add on ‘Lost‘ writer Carlton Cuse, and you have ‘San Andreas‘, the movie that should be able to hold the championship belt at the box office, at least for a week or two.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

tom-six12

You can mark this one off my bucket list. I finally got to talk with director Tom Six. Yes, the Tom Six who directed and came up with all ‘The Human Centipede‘ films. His latest and final(?) installment of ‘The Human Centipede‘ franchise, dubbed Final Sequence is finally out in select theaters and on VOD. If you’re a fan, I highly recommend you watch it. However, Mr. Six and I discuss his work on all three films, his intention for the third installment, and some of his favorite films and scenes from movies. Unfortunately, we had to do the interview over the phone, so there is no video, but the interview is fun none-the-less. Enjoy.

The WWE’s Smackdown blew into Norfolk, VA and it brought with it the return of Roman Reigns! I had the extreme pleasure to sit down with the iconic actress Blythe Danner and great director Brett Haley and discuss their latest film ‘I’ll See You In My Dreams‘. We discuss how much fun they had on set, the screenplay, and what their favorite scenes in film were, which Blythe gives an excellent answer. See the film.

Film Review: ‘Poltergeist 2015’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 22nd, 2015

Janet W., Here…

Poltergeist-2015-trailer-image-3

Horror, according to Webster: Something that causes feelings of fear, dread, and shock.

Someone should have enlightened the production team of this definition prior to their exploring the “re-imaging” (not remake) of this staple of the horror film genre.  I would not expect real horror in this film.  You will get a Scary Movie version of cheesy horror.  Everything in the 2015 version of Poltergeist is topsy-turvy from its 1982 predecessor.  The Freelings (1982) give way to the Bowens (2015).  Fear, suspense, and horror give way to one-liners and gratuitous special effects.

Film Review: ‘Tomorrowland’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 21st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

thumbnail_20656

There’s one hell of a cast and crew at work here for Disney’s ‘Tomorrowland‘, which is loosely based on the famous theme park at Disney resorts. Directed by Brad Bird (‘The Incredibles‘, ‘Ratatouille‘, and the recent ‘Mission Impossible‘ film), produced by Damon Lindelof (‘Lost‘ and ‘Star Trek‘), and starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson, ‘Tomorrowland‘ is a throwback to those old innovative Disney films full of adventure. I felt like a kid again through its two hour run time as I was watching each suspenseful and fun moment on the IMAX screen. That being said, ‘Tomorrowland‘ does have a few problems, but fortunately the good outweighs the bad this time around.

Film Review: ‘The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 21st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

09-centipede.w529.h352.2x

I can’t believe we have a third film in ‘The Human Centipede‘ franchise. This is supposedly the final film, but I hope there will be others or director Tom Six will come back after a long hiatus and do a fourth film. If you are unaware of ‘The Human Centipede‘ films, allow me to give you a little background. The first film was more or less a straight horror film thru and thru. It had a psychopathic surgeon (Dieter Laser) who kidnapped a few twenty-somethings and sewed them ass to mouth as to form one long digestive track.

Film Review: ‘I’ll See You In My Dreams’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 21st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

cdn.indiewire

It’s rare that a movie hits all the emotional notes in a genuine way, rather than hitting you over the head repeatedly, telling you how you should feel. Fortunately for us, the former is true with ‘I’ll See You in My Dreams‘, which is a small indie dramedy by director Brett Haley, which has iconic actress Blythe Danner play one of her best roles yet. Haley uses a soft touch throughout the film as we see new beginnings from people not to far from the end. There are a ton of funny moments with enough subtle drama that mixes into a perfect pie by the end of the film that leaves you wanting more.

FILM REVIEW “SLOW WEST”

by Justin Cline on May 21st, 2015

Justin C., Here…

cdn.indiewire

Westerns, as a film genre, are nearly as old as film itself, the first of which was little more than a short where a bandit leveled his weapon at the camera and blasted unsuspecting viewers. While plotlines have improved markedly since then, there are still those instances where filmmakers show as much care for their audiences as a bullet to the face. In the long lineage of westerns, how fares the latest addition, Slow West?

Film Review: ‘Good Kill’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 21st, 2015

Janet W., Here…

8E9A6700.CR2

Good Kill opens from a drone’s eye view over Afghanistan.  This reality gives the best manifestation of “Death from Above.”  Seven thousand miles away a pilot guides this miniature death bird.  Thomas Egan (Ethan Hawke) wants nothing more than to pilot a F16 again.  Having originally signed up for a one-year tour of duty with the UAVs, Egan is best in class on his 3rd tour.  Physically back from the war, Egan’s life has been diminished in many ways.  He cannot relate to his wife Molly (January Jones) or the domestic life in Las Vegas.  Egan roams between work and home as though he is on autopilot.  Suddenly the “Christian in Action” (aka CIA) hijacks his team for their covert off the books operations.  The job was hard enough with the long distance assassination of unsuspecting enemies.  Now, the call as to whether the person(s) in their sights are the enemy is taken from them.  How long can they continue?

The Raw after Payback was an insane evening that finally saw the WWE World Heavy Weight Champion get the appreciation and recognition that he deserved. Unfortunately, not everything went as planned, but as they say, The Authority always wins. The night was also filled with moments that shocked the WWE Universe and set the WWE Superstars on the road to the Elimination Chamber in less than two weeks. Did you miss it? Blu-ray Review: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Complete Series!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 19th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

91BNj35rUrL._SL1500_

THE SERIES

I remember when the pilot episode for ‘Boardwalk Empire‘ aired on HBO back in 2010, which was directed by Martin Scorsese. After the episode aired, I said to my friends, “that was one of the best pilots to any television show I had ever seen.” They all seemed to agree. What followed was five season of some of the best storytelling set in the prohibition era of America, complete with historical figures and gangsters. It was almost like it was ‘Goodfellas‘, but set in the early 1920s. The series followed Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), who was based on a real guy, who secretly controlled the Boardwalk in Atlantic City and bribed politicians and presidents to make his rise to power much easier.

Movie Quotes

Narrator:
Home was a condo on the fifteenth floor of a filing cabinet for widows and young professionals. The walls were solid concrete. A foot of concrete is important when your next-door neighbor lets their hearing aid go and have to watch game-shows at full volume. Or when a volcanic blast of debris that used to be your furniture and personal effects blows out of your floor-to-ceiling windows and sails flaming into the night. I suppose these things happen.
