Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

We’ve been anticipating a live-action film of ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ (one of the finer anime movies ever made), for quite some time. Over the past year or so, we’ve been reporting that this project is indeed gaining steam. Today, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson (‘The Avengers‘) will star in the film.

And why shouldn’t she get the part. She’s one of the bigger bankable action stars there are as of recent. She’s beautiful, talented, and one hell of a fun and versatile actress. This live action ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ film will be directed by Rupert Sanders (‘Snow White and the Huntsman‘) with a screenplay by Bill Wheeler (‘The Hoax‘).  DreamWorks is the studio behind this adaptation of Mamoru Oshii’s original film, which was based on the manga novel of the same name. And you know who’s in charge of DreamWorks, right? Steven Spielberg is, and I know he’s said in the past that he’s a huge fan of the original movie, according to Variety.

If you’re unfamiliar with original story, it follows a girl named Motoko Kusanaigi (Johansson) and her security agency posse who try to stop the evil hacker dubbed The Puppet Master. That’s basically the setup, but there is so much more to this story than that. I remember watching this for the first time over fifteen years ago, and loving it. I really hope they get this right, because it deserves an excellent cast and crew, which it seems like it has so far. Johansson is going to own this role.

Your thoughts?
