Podcast #38 – ReCast of ‘Saved By The Bell’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 30th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

53afe2113cbf47fac7fad8864cd01f55

The Multi-Media Men are back with the 38th episode that covers all things in the entertainment industry. We had a big house this time around, and this being the middle of summer, we had tons to talk about. Joining me is Adam Conway from the Angelika Film Center, Andrew Conway, Gwen Reyes from Fresh Fiction TV and Susan Kamyab from This Chix Flix. It was a lot of fun to say the least. Here is one of our infamous Re-Cast segments. We went ahead  and recast the iconic tv show ‘Saved By The Bell‘, which is one of the most entertaining tv shows of the 90s that starred Mark Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Tiffani Thiessen, Dustin Diamond, Elizabeth Berkley, Lark Vorhees, and Dennis Haskins. There is no way we can replace any of the amazing actors aboard here, but in this day and age, a remake is more likely to happen than not. So here are some of our suggestions on who should play which role? Do you agree with us? Let us know  if you agree or missed anything. And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page and TWITTER page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher to subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.

Film Review: ‘La Bare’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2014

Black Mariah, Here….

la-bare-joe

Whatever I thought this movie was about, whatever stereotype I had in my head about male strip club dancers, whatever I thought went on at Dallas’s most infamous Male strip club……I was wrong. Dead wrong.

I was among a select audience with the privilege of screening a new film by Joe Manganiello  (Magic Mike, True Blood) titled “La Bare”. I had seen Joe promoting the movie on various talk shows for the past few weeks, and was interested in the film already since it is about our hometown landmark, La Bare. I would like to preface this review with the fact that I have never been to La bare, but it does come with quite the reputation. As a burlesque dancer living in Dallas for the past 7 years, inner circles of cheeky entertainment often intertwine. I had heard tell of a fantastic strip club on the other side of town, with legendary male dancers sure to make any lady’s heart swoon. I had even met a few of the dancers in passing, and if they were any indicator of the men created in the image of the Golden Ratio dancing at La Bare, that is the one building in Dallas most likely to be filled with Greek God-like men.

Listen, Michael Bay, we need to talk.  It’s not you, it’s me.  Trust me on this.  You haven’t changed, I have.  Maybe I love you more than I should.  Is it wrong to love too much?  Maybe it was.  You will always be dear to my heart.  Your explosions are completely unmatched by any other.  Nobody can take that away from you.  No other director will ever replace your passion to film entirely in IMAX 3D just to make things that much bigger, and we’re already talking about GIANT EFFIN ROBOTS!

Film Review: ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 26th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Transformers_Age_of_Extinction_42240

I’m not sure why there was an idiotic woman behind me, applauding and yelling “Woooo”, every time an autobot was on screen, but it happened throughout Michael Bay’s fourth installment of his ‘Transformers‘ franchise. Let me assure you, there is absolutely NOTHING to applaud or cheer for in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘. If you weren’t sure if Michael Bay couldn’t get any worse as a filmmaker, think again. He outdoes himself here and tries to throw all of his tricks into one bag, leaving us with a film that can only be described as ‘shit with big explosions’.

Enjoy this Video from ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Mockingjay

Lionsgate sure has a handle on how to market their films and their new teaser trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1‘ is no different. Instead of the usual 30 second trailer that is filled with mostly text or footage from previous movies, we have a 1 minute and 12 second video from President Snow (Donald Sutherland) from the Capitol, spewing some evil propaganda. It seems straightforward, but as the camera pulls back from President Snow, someone is revealed, and it just got me all excited for this sequel. Fans will be screaming! Enjoy the short teaser trailer. The film opens November 21st, 2014, so we have a while.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Non-Stop’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 24th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

non-stop-blu-ray

THE FILM

In the next installment of Liam Neeson saving the world, or in this case, 150 people 30,000 feet up in the air on a commercial airliner from New York to London, things are so over-the-top ridiculous, things tend to not make a whole lot of sense. But what do you really expect from aLiam Neeson movie these days? That being said, this thriller in the air called ‘Non-Stop‘ is quite fun and is less cheesy than the ‘Taken‘ films, but not as gritty as ‘The Grey‘.

“Get to the Choppa, Now!!” Twentieth Century Fox is rebooting the classic Arnold Schwazenegger film, ‘Predator‘, which spawned one sequel, a few crossovers with the ‘Alien‘ franchise, and a recent revamp and futuristic sequel called ‘Predators‘. But now it seems like hte original 80s action flick is finally getting an excellent remake, and yes, I’m excited about it. You know why?

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

I really do hope that this ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle‘ film is as good and fun as these trailers have been. But having Michael Bay producing and Jonathan Liebesman (‘Wrath of the Titans‘ and ‘Battle Los Angeles‘) directing, my hopes are not high. I’ve always been a fan of the Turtles. I’ve watched their movies, their cartoons, played their video games, owned their action figures, and owned their soundtracks. I guess you can say I love being a Turtle. I’ve enjoyed each film and each cartoon they were in, yes even the one where they time traveled and when Vanilla Ice rapped on stage.

Will Forte Joins ‘The Simpsons’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 23rd, 2014
Hello, Jana here,

180674032JF00024_Life_Of_Cr

Will Forte is a renaissance man. We’ve all seen him as a bit player in dozens of different movies. He’s the nose-bleed guy from ‘How I Met Your Mother‘, ‘Saturday Night Live‘, and in a heart-touching role in the Oscar nominated ‘Nebraska‘. Bruce Dern is amazing, but I really think that Forte should have been nominated for an Academy Award, as well.

The film is financed by Film 360 the production arm of Management 360. The film is high school-set and is similar to the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer‘ formula with a found-footage component.

Hi, Jana here,

girlfriend_experience_ver3_xlg

Steven Soderbergh’s (‘Magic Mike‘, ‘Ocean’s Eleven‘, ‘Sex, Lies & Videotape‘) 2009 film ‘The Girlfriend Experience‘ that starred then-porn-star Sasha Grey and Chris Santos has inspired what will become ‘The Girlfriend Experience‘, a 13-part anthology series Starz has just greenlit. Soderbergh  will work with Philip Fleishman to executive produce the half-hour series which will explore the relationships of the most exclusive courtesans who provide their clients with far more than just sex. These high-price call girls deliver far more than just sex, they offer the girlfriend experience (GFE). Clients wanting a GFE can afford to pay for the prices the service demands. As you would expect, the GFE calls for a more emotional connection than just sexually. These women talk, and genuinely listen, to their clients.

Here is some very interesting and shocking news that Deadline is reporting. We all know that J.J. Abrams is directing ‘Star Wars: Episode VII‘, and I was going to assume that he would be making the next episodes as well. I was wrong. It looks like director Rian Johnson is signing the contracts to write and direct Episodes VIII and IX. This means that Abrams will pass the torch after this first film is done to Johnson, who by the way is forty years old. And like all of us, grew up watching Lucas make the original films. This is great news.

Film Review: ‘Jersey Boys’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 19th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Film Review-Jersey Boys

You might think it’s quite odd that Clint Eastwood directed a musical this year with ‘Jersey Boys‘, which is an adaptation of the Broadway stage play that is currently the 13th longest running show in history based on the careers of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, but you’d be wrong. In fact, Eastwood is very big in the music scene and always has been. You remember the film ‘Honkytonk Man‘ and ‘Bird‘, don’t you, which were both about musicians. And you can add to this the eight films he wrote and composed the music for. My point is that Eastwood is a solid choice for this great musical adapted into a feature film.

Film Review: ‘Think Like A Man Too’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 19th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

1200290 - THINK LIKE A MAN TOO

It’s been two years since we last saw the characters of ‘Think Like A Man‘, which was based off of Steve Harvey’s book ‘Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man‘. The first film followed a group of guys and girls falling in love with one another with all of the ups and downs of a relationship. It was funny, charming, and worth the time. Director Tim Story is back in the director’s chair again for this second outing. Statistically and historically, if a film on a modest budget does well, more than likely there will be a sequel.

“The D is silent.” In some excellent news, Quentin Tarantino is partnering up with Dynamite Entertainment and DC Entertainment to publish a comic book that pairs up Django and Zorro. Django has already been in the comic book realm when the film came out, but now he’s coming back. Tarantino himself will co-write the series with Reginald Hudlin and Matt Wagner and is scheduled to hit comic book shelves late this year. I’m excited to see where this leads, as all 3 collaborators are known for risky moves and thinking outside the box (no one more so than Tarantino). And both outlaws should be well represented by that kind of thinking.

I saw “Say Anything…” back in 1989. I was 9 years old. “Jerry Maguire” came out in ’96 when I was 16. So it wasn’t until 2000 when “Almost Famous” hit theaters that Cameron Crowe became a name in my household. I am very excited that he is returning to his rock’n’roll roots (“Almost Famous” is loosely based on Crowe’s time as a writer for Rolling Stone magazine) with a comedy that he will write, direct, and executive produce.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 18th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

300-rise-of-an-empire-blu-ray-cover-69

THE FILM

You would think that by the look of ‘300: Rise of an Empire‘, the sequel to the 2006 hit film ’300′, director Zack Snyder had returned to make this film. Well, you’d be wrong as Noam Murro directed this, making this film his first feature film. But don’t worry, Snyder seemed to have a heavy hand and watchful eye over this film, as his handprints are all over this from his screenplay to the camerawork. It’s all here again in this prequel, side story, and sequel that features a lot of the same characters from the original. ’300′ cost $65 million to make back in 2006 and was largely made in front of a green screen. That film grossed over $457 million dollars.

There has been a lot of speculation recently about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming projects. Two of them will be for DreamWorks, and people have been curious as to which film he will tackle first. DreamWorks answered that question by announcing release dates for his next two projects. First, there is an untitled cold war, spy thriller, which will hit theaters on Oct. 16, 2015. Then less than a year later, his adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s book The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) will open on July 1, 2016.

How Cool Is This ‘Halloween’ Blu-ray Collection!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 13th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

 BqBu2OOCAAM-nsZ

Good news, everyone. Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory have finally partnered up to give us horror fans something we have wanted for far too long. Not one but two different Blu-Ray box sets that spans all of the ‘Halloween‘ films. There will be tons of new bonus features, every film in high-definition, collectible packaging, and a 40-page Booklet. You can expect this amazing set in time for Halloween season, specifically on September 23rd. It’s about time they did this, because Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street already have box sets. Glad to see ‘Halloween‘ is catching up with everyone else. Now if we can just get that ‘Phantasm‘ box set to release in the US instead of the UK, all will be well. And today, they have unveiled the amazing Box Art it comes in. This is Fantastic. I Can’t wait. And you can pre-order the set now for 30% off.

Trailer for ‘The Equalizer’ Will Blow Your Minds!!!

Hi, Jana here,

'Safe House' Premiere - New York

I’m talking about ‘The Equalizer’ today. Denzel Washington, the acting genius from ‘Training Day‘, ‘American Gangster‘ and ‘The Book of Eli‘ is back in a role he’s been born to play. The trailer just dropped on ‘The Equalizer‘. It gave me goosebumps watching this small clip of what HAS got to be an excellent movie! It conjured up feelings of Michael Caine in ‘Harry Brown‘ or Gerard Butler in ‘Law Abiding Citizen‘. I’ve always been a huge fan of action movies, anyway, give me a revenge-based action movie and I’m enthralled!

‘Home’ From Dreamworks Animation Trailer Is Here!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 12th, 2014

Hi, Jana here,

dreamworks-home

Dreamworks Animation has got another film headed to release in March of 2015. This time around, they’re hitting the “alien hiding out on earth” theme. ‘Home‘ will, of course, be released in 3-D and feature the voices of Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez, Steve Martin and Rihanna. With Parsons and Martin involved in the voice acting, ‘Home‘ has some hope of being more than just cookie-cutter dreck that seems to clog up the multiplex every week. Check out the trailer for ‘Home‘ and tell me what you think about it? Enjoy.

Hi, Jana here,

The-Penguins-of-Madagascar-Season-2-Episode-2-It-s-About-Time

In 2005 when ‘Madagascar‘ came out, I’m betting the filmmakers did not plan on the runaway stars of the show being the penguins that were a short, little side story at best. The penguins are definitely some of the best characters out of the whole franchise. I may encourage my kids to watch the penguins cartoon when we see it on TV. So learning there is a whole movie based off these great and hilarious winged birds makes me really look forward to its release date, already!

Hi, Jana here,

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-most-anticipated-movies-2014-570x285-tmnt-trailer-description-leaked-online

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans have had August 8 circled on their calendars since word of the Michael Bay-produced flick has been announced. Looks like there’s another day TMNT fans can be looking forward to, as well – August 12.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles turn 30 this year, so maybe that makes them the Middle-Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles. Like all hitting middle-age, looking back at where they came from and where they are now seems a normal step to take. The TMNT are no different. Hot on the heels of the highly anticipated feature film starring Megan Fox comes an opportunity to retrace the legacy that is TMNT.

I would have never thought of this casting decision, but it makes perfect sense, and I’m totally psyched about it. Tom Hiddleston or Loki from ‘The Avengers‘ will play the iconic country and western music singer Hank Williams in the film ‘I Saw The Light‘. Marc Abraham will direct the biopic film from a script he wrote, which was based off of the biography by Colin Escott.

Hi, Jana here,

Awesome news! The tag-team duo that brought us ‘Bridesmaids‘ is back! Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are taking celluloid for another spin. ‘Bridesmaids‘ became a slightly unexpected hit on a global scale for being a female-driven comedy. The upcoming flick is going to team Wiig and Mumolo  as writers again, but they will also produce, star and Wiig is going to try her hand at directing the project which is going to be a first effort for the comedian. TriStar Productions is backing the production and they have described the film as the story of “best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with.”  No release date has been set.

Sequels, while common among movies, are rather unique to documentaries. Korengal picks up right where Restrepo left off, with an unabashed, honest look into the lives of American soldiers in Afghanistan. This sometimes crude documentary follows a handful of soldiers from Battle Company.

Michael Keaton in ‘Birdman’ Is AWESOME!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 12th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

image001_(4)

Michael Keaton is one of the best actors of the last century and was completely robbed of an Oscar for his role as ‘Beetlejuice‘. He’s proved countless times that his talent knows no bounds. His new film is called ‘Birdman‘ and looks all sorts of awesome. In the film, Keaton plays an actor who is famous for playing a superhero. He is now trying to book a gig on Broadway. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego as this superhero to get back his sanity, career, and family.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

If I were to tell you that Seth Rogen and James Franco were making a movie where they are tasked with a mission from the United States to head to North Korea, track down Kim Jong-un, and kill him – would you jump up from your seat, throw your fist in the air, and scream ‘YES’? I know I did. That is in fact the storyline here with their new film ‘The Interview‘, which is from the makers of ‘Neighbors‘ and ‘This is The End‘. The trailer looks hilarious and is now at the top of my list of movies to see. And man, what a cool poster. Enjoy the trailer.

We now have a full trailer for the upcoming live-action ‘Paddington Bear‘ film, simply titled ‘Paddington‘. They are quite funny and have a hashtag of #creepypaddington if you are ever so inclined to search these out. But the trailer itself, is quite lovely and charming.

Film Review: ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 12th, 2014

Maggie V., Here…

how-to-train-your-dragon-2-trailer

A few years ago I went to watch ‘How to train your Dragon‘ in the theaters and was pleasantly surprised by what a great film it was. It was different than most of the stories being told on the big screen at the time. This story revolved more around not fitting in and finding your voice against popular opinion. Even now I put it on every once in a while, and it always puts a smile on my face. When I heard that there was a sequel, I had mixed emotions about it. Sequels tend to be just a bigger, blown out version of the original film. When I got the chance to check it out I was curious how it would hold up to the original. However, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2‘ did not disappoint!

Film Review: ‘The Grand Seduction’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 11th, 2014

Janet W., Here…

la_ca_0418_the_grand_seduction

The Grand Seduction with Taylor Kitsch sounds yummy, but this film is not that type of party.  In the quaint town of Tickle Head, Newfoundland, the word of the day is “welfare”.  The small harbor is struggling to stay afloat while generation after generation of fisherman had lived and worked in the small town.  Sadly, since the fishing has dried up, the whole town is apparently on welfare.  Their spirit is parched for any sense of self-worth.  Mostly the older generation refused to leave, so when a petrochemical company is looking for a location for their new waste processing plant, the town bands together to get the contract.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

1396290301000-22-JUMP-STREET-MOV-JY-3504--63256180

The movie theater chains across America are plagued with sequels, reboots, and remakes these days. It seems like almost every film out there is either a sequel or a remake of an older film, leaving the original indie films left out to dry for the more independent theaters or video-on-demand. While you want these sequels and remakes to be just as good as the original or first film, most of them fall a little short, or are down right terrible. There are only a select few sequels that receive the praise and box office power that have audiences across the globe cheering its name. And I’m happy to report that ‘22 Jump Street‘ falls into that category, maybe even being towards the top of that list.

Hi, Jana here,

coens

If we were to talk about filmmakers that have a specific feel to their films there would be a wide variety of names on that list. But if we narrow the field down to filmmakers that are a wildly successful pair of brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen would undoubtedly fit the bill.

The Coen’s have a peppered legacy of complex films with ‘Raising Arizona‘, ‘Fargo‘, ‘The Big Lebowski‘ and ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou‘ among many others. Looks like the pair is not taking any time off from a career that has most recently been recognized with an Academy Award nomination for 2013’s ‘Inside Llewyn Davis‘. Universal Pictures has picked up ‘Hail, Caesar!‘ the latest original screenplay from the Coen’s. Besides writing the script, they will direct stars George Clooney and Josh Brolin in starring roles.

I’ve taken a brief hiatus, but I’m back with some big news! We all know that James Cameron likes to make movies that have a universal appeal. That’s basically a nice way of saying he makes money-makers. If something makes Cameron money, he goes back to that well until it’s bone-dry. If he could have come up with a logical way to bring Jack and Rose back together for a ‘Titanic‘ sequel, he’d have done it. History got in the way of that one, though.

Film Review: ‘Hellion’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 10th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

13906-1

Texas-based filmmaker Kat Candler delivers a great dramatic story with excellent performances by her actors in her feature film ‘Hellion‘, which is based off of her 2012 short film of the same name. I love when director’s get the opportunity to tell their full story on screen from previous short, and ‘Hellion‘ is sure to have audiences talking about it for days to come. Director Jeff Nichols, whose previous film was the award-winning ‘Mud‘, served as executive producer for ‘Hellion‘, which is fitting, because both feature a couple of young adolescent boys in serious adult situations. While some of ‘Hellion’s script has a few problems, it makes up for it ten-fold with its directing and acting.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Starting last year and heading into the year 2016, we will be bombarded with tons of sci-fi films. This is great news, people. We have seen a treasure trove of this great genre with big action blockbusters that cost upwards of $200 million and some more meager projects that cost less than a tenth of that budget, while still maintaining decent visual effects and sci-fi story lines. I could start listing some of these movies, but I’d be here for a few hours. Whether these current sci-fi films are good or bad, we are still receiving excellent characters and story arcs that dare us to think and dream.

Film Review: ‘The Fault in Our Stars’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 7th, 2014

Janet W. Here…

STOP, a man (young man at that) really whole-heartedly pursues, woos, and loves a woman.  This must be a movie, and oh and what a movie.  The Fault in Our Stars is a romantic drama with wonderful moments of levity and truest love that are contrasted with the extreme plunges into frustrations, despair, and numbness.  This emotional rollercoaster is the journey into love between Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort).  Hazel Grace is sixteen and dying from stage 4 thyroid cancer that has virtually destroyed her ability to breathe on her own.  HG has kept to herself and perhaps given up on the idea of having a boyfriend in her life when she meets the ultimate yet genuine charmer, Gus.  It is never too late to find true love or for true love to find you.

It’s an age-old question—“How much money would it take to get you to [fill in the blank]?”—, the idea being that every man, woman, and child have a breaking point, where the pay-off is simply too good to pass up.

For all intents and purposes, the filmmakers behind the movie Cheap Thrills ask the same question, but they’ve put their own unique spin on it. Not only do they want to know how much it’s going to cost but what you’re willing to do to prevent your competitor from accomplishing the task first. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

If films had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), then ‘Eastern Bandits‘ would be diagnosed with a severe case of it. I’m not saying that it’s a horrible thing, but it definitely takes away from the main focus of the film and it tends to stray into some ridiculous sub-plots throughout 107-minute run time. The film is billed as a Western meets Martial Arts type of movie. Well you can add comedy, heist, and whacky to that mix as well.

I’m very glad that the science-fiction genre is back and doing very well these days. The more sci-fi in theaters, the better. Here to start off June 2014 is ‘Edge of Tomorrow‘, formally titled ‘All You Need Is Kill‘, which is based on the 2004 novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka of the same name. Director Doug Liman (‘Swingers‘, ‘Go‘, ‘The Bourne Identity‘) took a swing at this $178 million dollar budget film and hit a home-run.

Film Review: ‘Words and Pictures’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 4th, 2014

Janet W. Here…

tn-500_clive-owen-tiff-3

What is mankind’s highest form of expression?  Word or Pictures?  Or maybe Words and Pictures.  The film Words and Pictures is a clever, cheeky comedy starring Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen that poses and addresses this question.  Jack Marcus (Owen) is an honors literature teacher at a preparatory high school and a somewhat functioning alcoholic.  Indirectly the film informs the viewer that Marcus’ alcoholism had destroyed his marriage, placed a huge stress on his relationship with his son, and affected what is near and dear to his heart, the teaching of words.  His alcoholism threatened his position because Marcus was consistently late, annoyed other teachers and didn’t always grade his students’ papers or stick to a curriculum.  Marcus has a brief moment of victory each day while in the faculty lounge when he challenges the other teachers to a contest of guessing the largest syllable word.  On the verge of Marcus potentially losing his job, Dina Delsanto (Binoche) begins her journey as the newly appointed honors art teacher.

Josh Trank Will Helm A ‘Star Wars’ Stand Alone Film!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 4th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

sw-logo_featured

Disney and LucasFilm are fast tracking tons of ‘Star Wars‘ related projects, because Disney recently purchased all of LucasFilm, which includes ‘Star Wars‘ and ‘Indiana Jones‘ for a couple of billion dollars. So now Disney is going to make their money back somehow. In addition to the main ‘Star Wars‘ films – Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, Disney will be making off-shoot films to keep us fed until each “Episode” comes out. These will tend to focus more on certain characters rather than display the entire world and story. To explain it better, think of these off-shoots as the stand-alone Marvel superhero films like ‘Thor‘, ‘Captain America‘, and ‘Iron Man‘ with ‘The Avengers‘ being the main ‘Episode’ movie. That’s where we have director Josh Trank enter the picture.

You Must Watch The ‘What If’ Trailer!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 3rd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

What-If-600x650

Mark the movie ‘What If‘ at the top of my list of movies to see this year. This trailer is great. ‘What If‘ is a romantic comedy starring Daniel Radcliffe (‘Harry Potter’), Zoe Kazan (‘Ruby Sparks’), Adam Driver (‘Girls’), and Rafe Spall (‘Hot Fuzz’). It’s a story we’ve seen before, but this looks like it’s done perfectly. Basically, Radcliffe plays Wallace who falls in love with a new girl named Chantry (Kazan), but quickly finds out she has a boyfriend. So it’s kind of a wrong-place, wrong-time type scenario.

This is not a review; this is a plea.

As of this posting, the Rotten Tomatoes score for X-Men: Days of Future Past is holding strong at 92%. And while it would seem that a score that high indicates the filmmakers got nearly everything right—in as much as anyone ever can—, I’d like to offer up a few suggestions for the next film, tentatively titled X-Men: Apocalypse.

Here they are, in no particular order: Read the rest of this entry »

FILM REVIEW: ‘COHERENCE’!!!

by Justin Cline on Jun 3rd, 2014

Justin C. here…

coherence poster

Certain movies defy traditional review.

It has nothing to do with ambivalence on the part of the reviewer but rather a desire to maintain a spoiler-free experience for moviegoers yet to come. In a time when Hollywood seems hell-bent on telling the same story and over again—practically requiring that any variation on theme be revealed in the trailer—, who am I to do damage to one of its few original, thought-provoking works by revealing too much?

Coherence is one such movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Check Out the ‘Hercules’ Trailer, Starring The Rock!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 3rd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

hercules-the-rock-trailer

As we reported late last year, there will be two films that feature Hercules this year. One came out at the start of the year, which was directed by Renny Harlin, and wasn’t too good. You can read that review HERE. The other one has me more excited, but not by much. I’m not a fan of director Brett Ratner (‘Rush Hour‘), but this film will star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Hercules, so that has me intrigued. I don’t care what it is, but The Rock is so charismatic on screen, I’d watch him in anything.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

After a two week vacation, The Multi-Media Men are back with the 35th episode that covers all things in the entertainment industry. We had a full house this time around with myself Bryan KlugerAdam Conway from the Angelika Film CenterGadi Elkon from Selig Film NewsAndrew ConwayGwen Reyes from Fresh Fiction, and Susan Kamyab from This Chix Flix. It was a lot of fun to say the least.  We now have the Championship round elimination for our new Bracket or Final Four and Championship game, which is the Best TV Shows from the 1990s through present day. Several weeks ago, we took a couple of days to come up with 64 of the best tv shows from that time-frame, and we put them in a NCAA-style tournament bracket to see what would emerge as the best show of that time. We separated them into two categories, which were comedy series and drama series. Even in this final round, there were some big fights amongst us. Blood was drawn, bones were broken, words were said, dogs and cats started living together – MASS HYSTERIA. You can click the link below to see the bracket in its entirety and print it out and play along.  This was a lot of fun.

We had a full house this time around with myself Bryan Kluger, Adam Conway from the Angelika Film Center, Gadi Elkon from Selig Film News, Andrew Conway, Gwen Reyes from Fresh Fiction, and Susan Kamyab from This Chix Flix. It was a lot of fun to say the least. As usual, we start off each episode with some sort of Top 3 list, and this 35th episode is no different. We decided to come up with some movies that Criterion should consider adding to their ever impressive collection. There are some excellent suggestions here along with some ideas for great bonus features. If you are unfamiliar with Criterion, check them out HERE. Basically, they are like the Neiman Marcus of home video. Criterion has the best video and audio transfers in the business and generally has the best bonus features in town. Not to mention that almost all of their films are five-star movies. So here is what we think Criterion should release in the coming year or so. Let us know  if you agree or missed anything. And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher to subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.
