Ladies contain yourselves….a sequel to ‘Magic Mike‘ is officially in the works! Joe Manganiello got the internet buzzing when he let slip that shooting will start this fall saying “I think they’re going to announce it soon”. Here is that official announcement. ‘Magic Mike XXL‘ will reunite most of the stripper cast, while there are no official agreements, a few players may be written out.

While Steven Soderbergh is the director that brought the original to massive box office success, he will not be directing its sequel. He remains as executive producer but is directing the new Showtime series ‘The Knick‘. Close collaborator of Soderbergh’s and producer and first assistant director of ‘Magic Mike‘, Greg Jacobs is taking the reigns. Jacobs has been Soderbergh’s right hand man since 1993’s ‘King of the Hill‘ and routinely acts as creative partner, producer and assistant director on most of the celebrated filmmaker’s films.

Jacobs’ has two films where he served as main director, 2004’s ‘Criminal‘ and 2007’s ‘Wind Chill‘. ‘Red Oaks‘, a comedy Jacobs created, wrote and is executive producing was going to see him act as director on that project, but with the opportunity ‘Magic Mike XXL‘ presents, he has handed control over to David Gordon Green who was set to direct a Soderbergh-produced adaptation of ‘A Confederacy of Dunces‘ before the project fell apart. What this shows us is Soderbergh is faithful to those that work with him and we should expect no less than the same level of oiled-up-man-candy Soderbergh created when he brought ‘Magic Mike‘ to life in 2012.
