What happens to Ghostbusters 3 Without Harold Ramis?

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 28th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Harold Ramis

Harold Ramis gave us years and years of laughter that came to an end way too early. The entertainment world will also tell us of the void he left within their ranks. We, the fans are left questioning the future of ‘Ghostbusters III‘. Sony is still managing to keep ‘Ghostbusters III‘ on track, even though Ramis was to have made a cameo appearance. Ivan Reitman, who formerly directed the first two Ghostbusters films is scheduled to meet with the heads of production to form a game plan to keep it in active development.

Jana B. here,

Jason Statham

Jason Statham is at the top of his game with a handful of projects in different levels of production. After being pitched the idea last year all is in place for him to sign onto ‘Susan Cooper‘ and costar with resident funny girl Melissa McCarthy. The feature film was written and will be directed by Paul Feig, I remember him clearly as Stanley from 1990’s campy and ridiculous ‘Ski Patrol‘.

Oprah Winfrey Supports MLK Biopic!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 28th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Martin Luther King

Think of all the biopics we’ve seen to date. Look at who they are about. Joan Crawford, Kennedy, Lincoln, Al Capone, Tina Turner, Ty Cobb, Lane Frost…the list is vast. There are a few personalities that get bio treatments from several people and others that have yet to be immortalized in film. We’re looking at a big screen, no-holds-barred Martin Luther King Jr. feature. Paramount is in final negotiations to acquire domestic distribution rights to ‘Selma‘, a feature drama about Martin Luther King’s 1965 landmark voting rights campaign regarded as the peak of the civil rights movement.

Film Review: ‘The Bag Man’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 28th, 2014

Jana B. here,

The Bag Man

I really wanted to like ‘The Bag Man‘, I did. I love Robert De Niro. I love John Cusack. How could this not be an awesome movie? It started out really promising. The opening scene jumped right into the plot. No excessive build-up, no slow start, just right there. Boom! On first impressions I was already bored of hearing about the bloody bag but I was intrigued, too. I want to know what’s in the bag but I’m also trying to figure out who decided to outfit De Niro and Cusack with the most ridiculous eye-wear known to man. De Niro’s begin to grow on you, but there is no way I could ever take Cusack seriously in those hideous specs.

Film Review: “Son of God”

by Woozie on Feb 27th, 2014

Suzanne L., Here…

Screen Shot 2014-02-27 at 12.14.13 PM

Whether you believe or do not believe, most people can agree that the story of Jesus is very powerful. A man who sacrifices his life by a going through a terrible death in the hopes that his act will save humankind from the grave – it is automatically filled with drama and meaning. Unfortunately, the latest film to try to capture the power of this story, Son of God, fails in so many ways. From the acting to the scripting to the special effects and staging, this is one story of the Gospel that should be skipped.

Has ‘The Stand’ Found a Permanent Director?

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 27th, 2014

Jana B. here,

The Stand

Stephen King’s world is fertile ground for scary twists and turns. Film makers for decades have looked to the author for source material for film and TV alike. ‘The Stand‘ was originally released as a mini-series in 1994. Josh Boone (‘Stuck In Love‘) is in talks to re-write and direct ‘The Stand‘. This won’t be Boone’s first project where a book has been re-tooled for the big screen. John Green’s beloved novel ‘The Fault In Our Stars‘ is directed by Boone and is highly anticipated for release this June.

Jana B. here,

Warren Beatty

Warren Beatty hasn’t been featured on the big screen for quite a while and he is ready to change that. Beatty has had a Howard Hughes-based project perking in his head for 20 years before we’re seeing any tangible sign of its existence. Beatty will direct and star as Hughes, but it will center on Hughes’ assistant and his love interest. Beatty’s wife, Annette Bening and Matthew Broderick have lent their talents to the project and we’re told there may still be a few surprise actors to join, we’re being told perhaps Jack Nicholson?

Film Review: ‘Non-Stop’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 27th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

non-stop01

In the next installment of Liam Neeson saving the world, or in this case, 150 people 30,000 feet up in the air on a commercial airliner from New York to London, things are so over-the-top ridiculous, things tend to not make a whole lot of sense. But what do you really expect from a Liam Neeson movie these days? That being said, this thriller in the air called ‘Non-Stop‘ is quite fun and is less cheesy than the ‘Taken‘ films, but not as gritty as ‘The Grey‘.

Luke Bracey Joins Cast of ‘Point Break’ Remake!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 26th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Luke Bracey

Alcon Entertainment, the company behind the remake of yet another Patrick Swayze movie, and movie I grew up with. Both are treasonous acts and I really hoped the ‘Point Break‘ remake would lose steam and remain untouched. Sadly, that is not the case.  Gerard Butler was previously announced to star as Bodhi, Swayze’s original part. We now have a new face for Johnny Utah, the role originated by Keanu Reeves. Luke Bracey (‘G.I. Joe Retaliation‘ and ‘Monte Carlo‘) has been announced as the newest cast member.

Console Wars

Blake Harris has a new novel dropping in May of this coming year entitled ‘Console War‘. Sony Pictures has already snapped up the feature rights from Atlantic Books. The behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry. Culminating in a David and Goliath face-off. The battle was vicious, relentless, and highly profitable, eventually sparking a global corporate war that would be fought on several fronts: from living rooms and schoolyards to boardrooms and Congress. It was a once-in-a-lifetime, no-holds-barred conflict that pitted brother against brother, kid against adult, Sonic against Mario, and the US against Japan.Atlantic will publish ‘Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation’ in August.

Warner Bros. Is Developing ‘Space Jam 2’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 24th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Space Jam

Over the weekend, a very trusted news source in Hollywood called Deadline, ran a news story that said, “Lebron James was going to star in the upcoming ‘Space Jam‘ sequel. The article mentioned producers and a studio, which was Warner Bros. A day or so later, Lebron and a couple of people on the NBA side and close to Lebron’s camp refuted the story and basically said this wasn’t happening. But the wording they used was confusing. The sources said that there have been no “substantive discussions”, which means, the deals are not made yet, however talks have happened. It seems like Warner Bros. is definitely making a ‘Space Jam‘ sequel, and they want  Lebron to star in it, but again, no deals have been made yet. In my personal opinion, I think Shaq should star rather than Lebron. Or just get Jordan back. He’s not doing anything. Below is the original story.

Warner Bros. Is Building A ‘Lego Movie’ Sequel!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 24th, 2014

Jana B. here,

After the ‘Lego Movie‘ proved to be such a massive blockbuster hit world-wide, Warner Brothers is not letting any of the momentum die down before announcing a sequel. While the details about the coming film are sketchy at best, one thing we know for sure is the release date has been staked out for May 26, 2017, with it being the beginning of the long Memorial Day weekend, we can assume it will be the tentpole for their summer film releases. At this point, this is the only film to claim the release date. So far, the only real thing that has been confirmed is the release date and that it will be the Lego universe. The rumor mill is spinning with whether or not it will be a proper sequel to the film in theaters now or if it will be a Lego Ninjago spinoff.

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 21st, 2014

Edward Norton is an exceptional and compelling actor, writer and filmmaker, and has decided on his next project. Well, he decided 15 years ago, it just took time to get his vision crystal clear before it could be put to celluloid. That time is now. What is this mysterious project, you ask? The film treatment of the Jonathan Lethem novel of critical acclaim, ‘Motherless Brooklyn‘. You know how you read a book and hope someone takes that vision and puts it directly onto screen? Don’t hold your breath for that happening with this novel. While taking the source material mostly straight across there are going to be some major changes. One of those changes is Lethem’s novel takes place in 1999, or at least contemporary New York. Norton is setting his story in 1954, a time of great change in the city.

Ben K., Here….

I love Pompeii. It’s a fascinating place where the past comes to life; where all one imagines of the Roman Empire is made tangible. It’s amazing to walk through ancient homes surrounded by frescoes, mosaics, restaurants, a bathhouse, a grand theater…and one need only look upward to see the cause of both Pompeii’s destruction and preservation. That vast, once fearsome volcano. Still, it is worth but a glance; the city and her ghosts will forever remain the focus of Pompeii. In his latest film, Paul W.S. Anderson gives us the opposite: a cursory glance at the people and the detailed wrath of top-billed Mount Vesuvius.

Judd Apatow is developing ‘Trainwreck‘. No, I’m not saying I think the film will be a trainwreck.  Apatow has found his niche in the film world much in the same way Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith have their cemented fans. A few of the trademarks for an Apatow film are finding the same 10-12 actors appearing in almost each one, and while they are brilliant comedies, they’re realistic and a bit longer than the average 90 minute comedy. So far the only thing that’s been released about ‘Trainwreck‘, is that he’s directing and we’re beginning to see the cast fill out.

Jada Pinkett Smith lands villainous role in ‘Gotham’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

Action9-415x450

Fox’s Batman prequel series ‘Gotham‘ has been adding names left and right for the past few weeks to its cast. Ben McKenzie will play Jim Gordon while Donal Logue will play Harvey Bullock. Now, the network has cast Jada Pinkett Smith (‘The Matrix‘) in the series. Smith will play a ruthless villain called Fish Mooney, a sadistic mob boss who might be in cahoots with The Penguin.

A ‘Ride Along’ Sequel Is Already in the Works!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

 RIDEALONG-master675

Ride Along‘ is still in theaters. Before the proverbial body of the original is even cold, Universal Pictures executives are already planning the sequel. The movie hasn’t even made it to the gap between theatrical release and DVD release, yet! It’s like Hollywood is checking the obituary column of the paper to get the jump on a great rent-control apartment in the city.

Haley Joel Osment Joins ‘Entourage’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

haley-loel-osment-2011

Haley Joel Osment is a name that is said pretty much in the same sentence as “Have you seen ‘The Sixth Sense‘? You know the one that kid Haley Joel Osment is in?” For me, he kind of dropped off the radar since the flop that was ‘A.I.: Artificial Intelligence‘ and the mildly successful ‘Secondhand Lions‘ in 2003. Turns out he has voiced a slew of video game characters and has been in some movies I’ve never heard the name of. Osment is currently finishing up production on the Kevin Smith-directed comedy ‘Tusk‘ that is expected to release this fall.

JK Rowling To Release New Robert Galbraith Book!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 18th, 2014
Jana B. here,

JK Rowling

If you’re a best-selling author, everything you do gets scrutinized.  If you’re a best-selling author that single-handedly re-ignited a passion for reading in young people the world over, you can’t take a breath that someone, somewhere doesn’t want to know about. So it is for JK Rowling. Most writers wait their whole lives to be a best-selling author. When your first attempt becomes the most popular series in history, you might want some anonymity after that.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 3!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 18th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

DVp9EjkI9Y94ss_1_l

THE TV SERIES – 5/5 STARS

Nothing has slowed down or become redundant with HBO’s flagship series, ‘Game of Thrones‘ Season 3. Based on George R.R. Martin’s third book ‘A Storm of Swords‘, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have decided to split the book up into two seasons, which is no easy feat, considering the amount of information in the book and the strategy of where to place certain story arcs. Luckily for us, everyone involved from the cast and crew of the show have flawlessly executed every aspect of the series.

Hi, Bryan Here….

1392672840000-GUARDIANS-GALAXY-MOV-jy-0704

We’ve been hearing about this film for a while now. This is Marvel’s new epic film in the whole superhero franchise. We saw a tease to this film at the end of ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ earlier last year. It’s where we saw Benicio Del Toro doing something sinister. James Gunn (Slither & Super) is directing. If you are unfamiliar with the story, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.

Lets get started on episode two of what happened to the entire cast. Beth and Daryl are still alive and in the woods. They spend the their scenes running away and killing walkers. There is a narrative of Beth reading a letter she wrote when they first got into the prison and how she had faith. They come upon a group of walkers and the dead bodies of Luke and his father. Nothing really spectacular happens to them. Daryl is a badass like always.

If you don’t know who Dr. Horrible is, I’m going to assume you have been living under a rock, on Mars, or in a cave with no sunlight and/or internet access. ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog‘ is a comedy, tragedy, musical….a comtragical? Hi, Bryan Here…

We now have the first round elimination for our new Bracket, which is the Best TV Shows from the 1990s through present day. A few weeks ago, we took a couple of days to come up with 64 of the best tv shows from that time-frame, and we put them in a NCAA-style tournament bracket to see what would emerge as the best show of that time. We separated them into two categories, which were comedy series and drama series. Even in this opening round, there were some big fights amongst us. Blood was drawn. You can click the link below to see the bracket in its entirety.  This was a lot of fun. We will be posting some images of our re-cast for you to see in full on our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. What could possibly go wrong in a romantic movie that includes time travel, Colin Farrell on a flying horse, Russell Crowe as a demon, and Will Smith as the Devil? Well, a lot actually. Winter’s Tale is a truly sappy bit of film with a lot of star power and a story that relies on manipulation rather than actual depth.

‘Gone Girl’ Writer to Pen ‘Utopia’ for HBO!!

David Fincher’s name is synonymous with a successful film franchise, and for using Brad Pitt in his work.  Films like ‘Fight Club‘, ‘Se7en‘, and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button‘ have all been huge box office hits and when we hear Fincher’s name, we expect more of the same. After a successful TV debut with Netflix’sHouse of Cards‘, he is ready to take on another series, like ‘House of Cards’ it is a British remake, and will be aired on HBO. The drama series project is based on the Channel 4 series, ‘Utopia‘, created by Dennis Kelly and produced by Kudos. ‘Utopia‘ enjoys a successful following on Channel 4 and in January of 2013 was picked up for a second season to air later this year.

‘The Wonder Years’ Is Finally Coming to DVD!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 12th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

Well it’s about time. The iconic 80’s tv show, ‘The Wonder Years‘ is finally getting a release on DVD. It has never before been released on home video in it’s entirety with the exception of a few ‘Best Of’ VHS’s. The entire series was released on Netflix a year or so ago, so it was only a matter of time before it got a phsyical release. But it looks like there is no Blu-Ray release scheduled. Most of the original music will be in tact, which was  the major factor of it not being released on home video all these years, since it’s soundtrack contains tons of Beatles music amongst others.  It was just too expensive. This is exciting news. I hope there are some great extras and I hope there is a Blu-Ray release soon.

If you’re like me, there is no story line too far fetched to keep me from gazing at the Nordic god-like appearance of Alexander Skarsgard. Now that I know there is a 3D live-action version of ‘Tarzan‘ going full speed ahead starring the Swedish bombshell, I’m more than a little excited about the idea of Skarsgard appearing on screen most of the time sporting only a loincloth. Hi, Bryan Here….

Joel Kinnaman

Over the past year, I’ve been writing stories on the upcoming ‘Robocop‘ remake. As I found out more and more information about this reboot of the franchise, I was becoming less and less excited about it. It might of been the fact that it was getting a PG-13 rating, the change in the suit, or many of the other differences that were popping up from the original 1987 film that starred Peter Weller. Hell, even Weller himself said he was not looking forward to the remake and even compared his 1987 film to the likes of ‘Casablanca‘, which is hilarious.

Universal Pictures was caught up in a bidding auction against Sony. The prize? A hot script by Gary Spinelli (Stash House) that has yet to be written for the rock bottom price of $1 million! Ron Howard is already attached to direct. I’m sure Universal is banking on Howard’s vision to garner the film a big box office viewing, after all he is a proven success with films like ‘Apollo 13‘, ‘A Beautiful Mind‘, ‘Cinderella Man‘ and ‘The Davinci Code‘ that have ruled their box office runs. Doug Davison, Brian Grazer and Kim Roth are all attached to produce or executive produce. Grazer is a success on his own steam and is often paired with Ron Howard for cinematic success.

Image: A protester reacts as the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi burns

How do we know what took place when we were not there to witness an event? We wait for the movie to come out. The more common way is we wait for the book to come out, then someone writes a movie based off the actual events. Historical movies make big money so it’s not surprising that a book describing the first hand account of the Benghazi attack is in the works. It’s also not surprising that Paramount is already negotiating to purchase film rights to the book that hasn’t even been released, yet.

I’m very skeptical about this project. The original ‘Escape from New York‘ that starred Kurt Russell and was directed by John Carpenter is pretty much flawless. ‘Escape From LA‘ on the other hand wasn’t as good, even though it had Bruce Campbell. Chilean director Sebastian Lelio’s film, ‘Gloria‘ is the poster child for how to make a great romantic comedy. Sure, there are many of these types of movies that have come before it, but none have their main character pushing 60, and none have been executed this well. As we’ve seen over and over again with the rom-com genre, things can get a bit cliched, silly, and just downright dumb.

Heard About ‘Stage Fright’, The Horror Musical!?!?

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 6th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Stage Fright

Genre-bending features are not a really new thing. When they’re done right though, we stand up and cheer. Remember ‘Zombieland‘, a grisly zombie flick that made us scream – with laughter? ‘The Cabin in the Woods‘, ‘Shaun of the Dead‘, ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show‘? If the movie can be categorized by more than one descriptor, it’s a genre-bender. ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ for example can go into Sci-Fi, Comedy, Musical and Horror categories. After all that explanation, I can tell you that I am excited for the release of the horror comedy musical, ‘Stage Fright‘.

DMZ heads to SyFy!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 6th, 2014

Jana B. here,

DMZ

SyFy is cashing in on the popularity of comic book adaptations for small screen with a DC comic book, ‘DMZ‘. In a huge deal at Warner Bros TV, two of ‘Mad Men’s producers Andre‘ and Marie Jacquemetton are hitching their wagon to another producer, David Heyman of ‘Gravity‘ and ‘Harry Potter‘ fame. The Jacquemetton’s, a husband and wife team, will write the series. They began with ‘Mad Men’ right after the pilot was picked up. The two have shared in three of the series’ four best series Emmys and earned three writing Emmy Nominations on their own.

Film Review: ‘Monuments Men’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 5th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

monuments_men

George Clooney has had an amazing track record of films he has been in and directed. From ‘Good Night and Good Luck’ to ‘From Dusk Till Dawn‘, the brilliant man seems to know what he is doing. Clooney is also no stranger to war movies, as he has been involved in several different war films, but he has yet to direct one up until now with ‘Monuments Men‘. Sure, you can argue that ‘Monuments Men’ isn’t a “war film”, but rather more of an art heist movie, but I would argue against that.

Film Review: ‘Lego Movie’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 5th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

LEGO

In the past, we’ve seen video games and board games adapted into movies for the big screen. More often than not, these adaptations are usually panned by critics everywhere and let down the fans. Or the film is decent enough for a ‘one-time’ watch, then is completely forgotten. You can say the above about ‘Battleship‘, ‘Street Fighter‘, or ‘House of the Dead‘. ‘Clue‘ might be the only board game adaptation to sustain any sort of fan following, and actually has received a lot of positive remarks since it came out 1985.

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 5th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

EmmaWatsonEthanHawke-618x400

Director/Composer Alejandro Amenabar (‘The Others‘) has cast Emma Watson (‘Harry Potter‘) along with Ethan Hawke (‘Training Day‘) in a new thriller called ‘Regression‘. Not much is known about the plot of the film yet, but with these two amazing actors, I would imagine something very suspenseful and full of thrills.

Untitled_large_verge_medium_landscape

We don’t have to wait to much longer for Wes Anderson’s (‘The Royal Tenenbaums‘) new film, ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel, as it will release in the theaters on March 7th. We’ve seen the trailers, but now we have an official clip of Bill Murray, an Anderson regular, doing what he does best in this new film.  This looks quite hilarious and I can’t wait to see it. Enjoy the clip below.
