Jana B., Here…

 2013 Winter TCA Tour - Day 9

HBO has been pushing the envelope with series television like Sex and the City, Oz, True Blood and The Sopranos. Former Sex and the City writer, Jenny Bicks is adapting the French porn comedy “Hard” for the premier cabler.  Stephen McPherson pitched the adaptation to Bicks and she agreed to the partnership instantly, being familiar with McPherson due to their working together at ABC when she helmed the dramedy “Men in Trees” starring Anne Heche. Bicks and McPherson are joined by Vin Di Bona, that’s right, the name we all see as executive producer of “America’s Funniest Home Videos“, are executive producing the comedy. Bicks is coming off her association with Showtime running “The Big C“. Currently, she is writing a pilot for NBC and executive producing a comedy pilot, “Works With Jerks” for ABC.

The dark comedy, as almost all are, anymore, features a Brentwood housewife who believes she is married to the owner of a software company. Soon after his death, she learns the truth about her late husband’s line of work. She discovers it is a struggling porn company instead. She takes on the challenge to manage the business and make it profitable once again. She also tries to keep the same face she’s always shown her friends. This makes me think of the first season of Weeds somewhat. Except Nancy Botwin knew what she was getting into with pimping pot after her husband, Judah’s death. Regardless of it’s comparison to Weeds, I am really looking forward to the series.
