Insidious 2 trailer (Screengrab)

I was cautiously optimistic when I went to the screening of ‘Insidious 2‘. I’m a huge fan of Patrick Wilson as an actor and come on ladies, he’s pretty easy on the eyes but from the previews, the movie looked pretty cheesy. I’m sad to report that other than a few super intense, seat jumping scenes, it pretty much delivered on the silly slapstick type of horror one would expect.

The ghosts even had personalities that were not impressed with the PG-13 rating. As childish as a lot of the scary parts of the movie were, I was glad to see Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson reprise their roles as Specs and Tucker, as it provided a much needed comic relief.

The storyline picks up with Josh Lambert and his family trying to move on with their lives after escaping from “The Further” but it soon appears that the “Josh Lambert” that escaped is not who he seems to be and we soon learn about the infamous Bride Killer.

I have no doubt that this horror sequel will make tons of money at the box office this weekend, and while it garners a few scares here and there, it wasn’t the horror film I was hoping it to be. Maybe next time around we will get a solid ‘R’ rated horror story.
