SXSW has has some good news coming out of it this year. Danny Boyle did an interview about all of his upcoming movies and announced that he will be returning to the film that put him on the map. I’m of course talking about ‘Trainspotting‘.  That’s right, folks. Boyle is making a sequel to ‘Trainspotting‘ for an anticipated release for 2016. The movie will be a sequel to Irvine Welsh’s ‘Filth, which is titled ‘Porno‘, and Boyle is confidant that he can get the entire cast back, including Ewan McGregor.

John Hodge will be returning to the writer’s room to pen the script for the sequel. Hodge’s script for the first film was incredible and know he will do a decent job on this sequel, considering he has a while to get it knocked out.   The movie will not be a straight up adaptation, but will be loosely based off the book.

Boyle is also working on two other projects, which will be period pieces. One will be based on a book, which he declined to reveal, and the other is an original written by Hodge. Boyle said, “We’re working on two period pieces at the moment, but they won’t be like, ‘Downton Abbey‘ period movies. “They’re like… they’re interesting. They’ve arisen very naturally. I never thought I’d do a period piece. It’s weird the way it happens. Maybe because we’re running out of genres.”

I can’t believe we are getting a ‘Trainspotting‘ sequel.  How cool is that? Hopefully there will be another toilet scene.
