Hi, Bryan Here….

The third season of ‘The League is releasing October 9th.  That’s the same day as ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s’ 7th season release.  This was a great season and can’t wait to have it finally on home video. To be a fan of The League, you don’t need to know much about fantasy football, or sports at all. You just need to have friends that you hate. The ensemble comedy follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who care deeply about one another – so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each other’s lives miserable.

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 7’ Blu-ray will be released on October 9th.  So be prepared and start studying up for Chardee MacDennis.  In season 7 see the Gang prepare for the apocalypse, hit the beach at the Jersey Shore, produce a child beauty pageant, and take a walk down memory lane at their high school reunion. As they say, some things never change. So prepare for more depraved schemes, half-baked arguments and absurdly underhanded plots to subvert one another.

Hi, Bryan Here…

James Franco will join Jason Statham for a film called ‘Homefront’.  It will be directed by Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) and was written by Stallone.  Stallone and Statham star in both ‘Exependable’ films.  Stallone will also be producing the film.  Franco knows no bounds and will be in every movie and genre.  I like that about him.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Yes, there is going to be a live action remake of ‘Masters of the Universe’.  No, I’m not excited about it.  The signature toy series and beloved cartoon are making its way to the big screen again for Sony.  Alex Litvak and Mike Finch have penned the script which was titled ‘Grayskull’, but since they turned the script in, the title has gone back to ‘Masters of the Universe’.  Personally, ‘Grayskull’ is a better title.

You know the covers. You’ve seen them millions of times, and they continue to captivate upon every gaze. But what is behind those marvelous covers, encased in voluptuous black wax? Admittedly, we hang our heads in shame for saying this, but there are several albums from the past few decades we’ve seen on record store shelves and in ‘top ten’ lists year after year, but have yet to experience for ourselves. More precisely, we’ve never listened to these records in any shape or form. Read the rest of this entry »

Tom Waits Tour Announcement?!?!?

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 31st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

A very cryptic image appeared on Tom Waits’s web page earlier.  It’s an image of him, which is the one above that says “Coming Aug. 7”!  With the caption that reads, “Permission to Come Aboard”.  I think this means he will do a new tour.  Hopefully we will get a cool new video announcing the tour like he did with his PEHDTSKJMBA tour.  PEHDTSKJMBA meaning “People Envy Happiness; Dogs Though Sense Courage, Knowing Jubilation Means Better Ass…sets.”  Keep it here for more info on Aug 7th.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Here is a 6 minute trailer for ‘Cloud Atlas’.  This definitely looks epic, which is based on David Mitchell’s magnificent story, which spans 100’s of years.  Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant star. It looks like Tom Hanks plays several different characters and Hugh Grant looks like something out of Mel Gibson’s ‘Apocalypto’.  The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer directed this, which they brought us the ‘Matrix’ trilogy and ‘Speed Racer’.  This opens October 26th.

Check Out the ‘Skyfall’ Trailer!!! 007 is Back!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 31st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Some interesting and fun marketing campaign for the new James Bond film lately.  If you watched the Olympics Opening Ceremony, you would have seen Daniel Craig as 007 escort the Queen of England to the Olympic stadium as they jumped out of a helicopter and parachuted into the stadium.  It was hilarious.  And if you have seen ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in IMAX, you would have been treated to a few minutes of ‘Skyfall’.  Well, here is the new international trailer which is all sorts of cool.  Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory and Judi Dench star in the Sam Mendes-directed spy thriller which comes out in theaters on November 9 (my birthday).

Bryan Reviews ‘The Watch’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I was excited to see ‘The Watch’ when I sat in my theater chair.  I’m a fan of Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade.  And I thought the premise of the film was going to be a lot of fun as well, mixing a vulgar humor guy comedy film with a full scale alien invasion.  It sounds good on paper with that plot and cast.  Unfortunately, Hill, Stiller, and Vaughn play the same character they have played in their last seven movies.  The script is lethargic throughout the entire film with the exception of a few lines of dialogue that I suspect was improv.  And that feels weird to say since the script was credited to Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jared Stern.  While ‘The Watch’ has a decent premise and stellar cast, the mark is missed by a good 1000 yards.

‘Battle Royale’ Might Be Reborn as Series For CW!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

First off.  Fuck everything about this.  I hope it doesn’t get made.  These people at CW would ruin this story faster than you can say Noriko.  I can’t believe this would even be up for discussion.  A film and story like ‘Battle Royale’ should not be made for network television.  Hell, it shouldn’t even be remade.  It’s a perfect film as it is.  And if these assholes decide to remake it, give the money and talent it deserves.  Not some hack at CW.

It’s not very often I take the time to promote projects via crowd sourcing, but the world needs more books. It also needs more books about vinyl records and their collectors…

Vinyl record blog Dust & Grooves currently has a Kickstarter campaign going on to fund their first book about vinyl collectors and their amazing collections, and they are getting super close to their goal. Check ’em out and throw a few bucks their way, so this book can get published. Because D&G’s articles are concise, thoughtful, entertaining and quite engaging, it would be a tragic shame to see this project not come to fruition.

Also, follow  D&G on Twitter for progress on their Kickstarter campaign, as well as for future installments of D&G.

Believe it or not, there is no such thing as too much velvet.

Lou Reed and company are releasing a swank 6 disc 45th Anniversary edition of their ground-breaking 1967 debut “The Velvet Undeground & Nico” on October 1st. The set features Mono and Stereo versions of the album with additional alternate mixes, Nico’s “Chelsea Girl”, live recordings from two Valleydale Ballroom gigs and the previously unissued ‘Scepter Studios Sessions’. (Remember the rare VU acetate recording found for pennies at a New York sidewalk sale, only to be sold on eBay months later for bookoos of money? Yeah, the public finally gets to hear it!)

No other release information is currently available as of yet, but rest assured we’ll post pre-order info when it becomes available! In the meantime, be sure to ask your local favorite record store to reserve you a copy.

Neil Young “Journeys” (Review)

The ‘Grandaddy of Grunge’, Neil Young, has been on quite a roll over the last few years,  musically and artistically, releasing several critically acclaimed albums, not to mention finally  releasing the long, long-awaited “Neil Young Archives: Volume 1” to the masses, proving  again and again that ‘rust never sleeps.’ After all, Young is pretty old for a rock and roll star.    However, his love for making music and shredding guitars on stage never ceases to wane, as is  evident in his latest concert documentary film, “Journeys.” Read the rest of this entry »

Bryan’s ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Review!!!

Hi, Bryan Here….

Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman franchise ranks as the best film in the series.  That’s difficult for me to say, as the first two films were so amazing.  Even with Heath Ledger’s iconic and eternal role as the Joker in the previous film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ far surpasses anything my imagination could have hoped for in film.  Movies do not get better than ’The Dark Knight Rises’.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Sam Raimi’s take on the ‘Wizard of Oz’ universe is taking shape nicely.  By the trailer, you can definitely tell people who work with Tim Burton are working on this film with Raimi.  When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well. It looks good and I hope it is.  The film will open March 8th, 2013.

Jessica Biel To Play Viper In ‘Wolverine’ Sequel!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Jessica Biel has just landed the role of Viper in Fox’s ‘The Wolverine’ film.  Viper formally known as Madame Hdrya has been in the X-Men universe for a long time now and we hear that her role is pretty big.  Let’s not forget that Biel was in one other Marvel film.  Can you guess which one that was?  If you guessed ‘Blade: Trinity’, then you guessed correctly.

Hi, Bryan Here…

CREEPY Magazine is getting the big screen treatment.  Chris Columbus is set to produce an epic 4 part anthology film based on the mag, which most likely he will write at least one of them.  Dan and Josh Braun will produce the film with Sarah Feldmann Sheehan.  CREEPY is a horror magazine that came out in 1964 and ran through 1983.  It sort of had a comeback in 2009.

Bryan’s Blu-ray Review of ‘Chariots of Fire’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 11th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Finally, Warner Bros. gave us the ultimate (so far) edition of ‘Chariots of Fire’ release it deserved.  This film is amazing from start to finish.  It won best picture at the Oscars in 1981 among others.  Even if you haven’t seen the film, I’m sure you have seen the opening title sequence with the runners sprinting along the beach to that iconic score by Vangelis.  After watching this again, I can’t seem to get that amazing score out of my head.  I keep whistling it.  This bluray release is top notch all the way through.  Great extras, amazing audio/video, and terrific film to round it all out.  Highly recommended.

Hi, Bryan Here….

It’s such a delight to have The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan out on DVD.  This series, which only lasted 16 episodes, originally aired in in 1972 and follows Mr. Chan or Charlie Chan, his ten children, and their dog Chu as they travel across the globe and solve mysteries.  Charlie Chan sounds familiar to you doesn’t it?  Like that name is in a song?  That’s right, because it’s used in the Beastie Boys song ‘Brass Monkey’.  Just a little side note.  This release is one of those famous WB Archive releases.  It looks very good.

Director Darren Aronofsky just tweeted this image from the location of his new film ‘Noah’, which is Noah’s ark.  He said,  “I dreamt about this since I was 13. And now it’s a reality. Genesis 6:14.″  This looks epic. Enjoy.  Aronofsky directed Pi, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Requiem For A Dream, and The Fountain.  I wonder if this will be better than Bruce Almighty 2.  I kid.

Hi, Bryan Here…

As I previous said, one of my favorite characters from the ‘Walking Dead’ books is that of Michonne.  Michonne is a female zombie killer to put it lightly.  She wields a kitana blade and is extremely deadly.  She is a complete badass.  Danai Gurira has been cast as Michonne.  She can be seen in HBO’s ‘Treme’ series. Well, we have a sneak peak at Michonne doing what she does best – killing zombies. COurtesy of The Talking Dead!  Enjoy.

Check Out the Trailer for ‘Gangster Squad’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 11th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Gangster Squad’ takes place in Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and-if he has his way-every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.  This is the 2nd trailer for the film.  It looks good.

Bryan Reviews Oliver Stone’s ‘Savages’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

After a few years of getting a softer side of Oliver Stone, Savages brings the director back to his ultra violent, drug induced, sex crazed, and savage side.  Based on Don Winslow’s novel, Savages tells an intense tale of drugs, sex, and betrayal.  I really missed this side of Oliver Stone.  I’ve been hoping for a film that can be put in the same cookie jar as Natural Born Killers, Platoon, and U Turn.  Instead, we have received films like Wall Street 2: Electric Boogaloo, W., and World Trade Center.  By far not his best work nor interesting.  So the big question is, “Did Oliver Stone deliver the goods on his return to a more sadistic film?”
