Bryan’s Review of ‘Pirates: Band of Misfits’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Aardman Studios proves once again that it can turn out a very charming and hilariously funny film that is fun for all ages.  The claymation is top-notch and mixed with that famous dry humor we have come to love from Peter Lord and his creations.  In the likes of Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, Peter Lord’s The Pirates! Band of Misfits is a great and pleasurable adventure.

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Let me start off by saying I am a huge Andrew Bird fan.  And if you do not know who Andrew Bird is, after seeing this amazing documentary by Xan Aranda, you will be hooked and consumed with both the artist and his music.  Fever Year is a compelling and fun documentary that follows Andrew Bird on his tour across the USA.  We get an in depth look at his performances on stage and behind closed doors as we see the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist’s passion for music.

Bryan’s Review of ‘LUV’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Sheldon Candis’s LUV is one of the strangest yet better coming-of-age films I have seen.  Above all else, this film excels in its character development, which is probably why Candis was able to secure an A-List cast.  LUV is set in Baltimore , which undoubtedly will prompt comparisons to the HBO hit series The Wire, particularly because of the similarities in characters and story.  But where LUV differs, is when it makes its characters come first before anything else –even the storyline.

Je-kyu Kang’s ‘My Way’ is not just a film you watch, it’s a full emotional experience.  ‘My Way’ will take you on a moving journey through several countries and languages as you grown a bond with the two main characters.  This is Korea’s most expensive film to date and you will immediately see that.  ‘My Way’ is epic on all levels.  This is one of the better films I have seen in recent memory and most definitely the best film dealing with war-time since Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’.

BRIDGE – Chapter Nineteen

by Justin Cline on Apr 25th, 2012

CHAPTER NINETEEN

By the eighth Mississippi, Bridge had his map back in hand and a good idea of where he was headed.  It must have been a long walk from the cemetery to The Bethany for a man who’d been forced to vacate his own grave, but in the van it was a short ride from their current location to the outskirts of the city.  The hope in making the trip was to find something—anything—at the gravesite that would point him forward in the investigation.  Between himself and the cat, they had killed off all other viable leads. Bryan Reviews ‘Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous’ DVD!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

‘Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous’ is the second part of a trilogy written by Joss “man-god” Whedon.  This is a motion comic film which is illustrated by the talented John Cassaday and is out just in time I feel to promote Whedon’s epic Avenger film.  This is not the best work I’ve seen, but it’s not the worst either.  I just feel like this was rushed to release rather than give it the proper time to be the badass DVD it deserves to be.

Bryan Reviews ‘War Horse’ Blu-Ray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

In never got a round to catching Spielberg’s ‘War Horse’ in the theatres.  I heard a lot of people enjoyed it, but it really wasn’t at the top of my list.  Overall. I enjoyed the film quite a bit.  It’s done very well on ever level, but that’s Spielberg.  I really expected a movie about horse, but it was more about the different characters the horse encounters during the war and how the horror of war-times effects each individual.  The audio and video on this bluray are top notch with a few good extras.  If you were a fan of the film, a Spielberg enthusiast, or a war movie buff, then this bluray is for you.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Extraterrestrial’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I didn’t quite know what to expect from Nacho Vigalondo’s ‘Extraterrestrial’, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.  ‘Extraterrestrial’ is a romantic comedy with an ‘Independence Day’-sized alien invasion.  That’s the best way I can describe the film.  Over its ninety-minute run time, we enjoy the whimsy and follies of a budding new romance, while hundreds of UFO’S enter Earth’s atmosphere.  ‘Extraterrestrial’ will make you laugh and warm your heart until the next impending alien invasion.

Bryan’s Review of ‘The Pact’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Nicholas McCarthy’s ‘The Pact’ delivers scares and creeps that will linger with you through the next several days.  There are enough scenes to make you jump out of your seat to last two movies.  ‘The Pact’ was originally an eleven minute short film that showed at Sundance last year.  Fast forward a year, and the short was made into a feature length film by the same name.  While the creep and scare factor might keep you on the edge of your seat, the film’s pacing and character development lack the push to make this a great horror film.

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best’ is a bright ray of light in the indie film scene.  Ryan O’Nan’s debut film is a mature, coming- of-age story that brings two lost souls together for a bizarre musical journey across the United States in a beat up old car.  The characters sport enough wit and charm to warm audiences to their core.  This is a wonderful little film with an original soundtrack that younger-generations will eat up.

Bryan’s ‘Think Like A Man’ Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 20th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Tim Story’s ‘Think Like A Man’ is comedy gold.  I completely underestimated this film, expecting stupid sex jokes, flat character development, and ridiculous male posturing. Hi, Bryan Here….

It is hard to think of a comparison for the movie ‘Queens of Country’ because, quite honestly, I’ve never seen anything like it.  Directors Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke may have just created the first of a new film genre, seamlessly weaving comedy, angst, campiness, desperation, musical numbers, and line dancing. It is rare to find a film that is so original and oddly amazing that it succeeds on all levels.  ‘Queens of Country’ breaks the rules of film and takes you on a hilarious journey of love, confusion, and music.

Bryan Reviews ‘Save the Date’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 17th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Save the Date’ is a romantic comedy about the love lives of two sisters. While loyal indie romantic comedy fans may love this film merely because it echoes their favorite genre, this particular romantic comedy comes up short on both the romance and the comedy.  Although it may capture the indie “feel”, it lacked the spark and originality that should be at the heart of an independent film.  Even the stellar cast was unable to overcome the monotony of the storyline.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Josh Radnor’s ‘Liberal Arts’ is nothing short of amazing and was a perfect film to open up the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival.  Most of you might know Radnor from the hit television series ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ where he plays the hopelessly romantic lead character.  But with ‘Liberal Arts’, Radnor throws out the laugh-track-style comedy and give you one of the smartest and most genuine performances of the past few years.  I have no doubt that audiences will fall in love with the incredible cast, witty dialogue, and light-hearted yet heart-felt story.

Bryan’s ‘L!fe Happens’ Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 12th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘L!fe Happens’ tries so hard to be a warm hearted movie that will make you laugh and feel for its characters all throughout the movie.  But due to its lack of likability of characters, and its really poor and laughable dialogue, ‘L!fe Happens’ plays out more like a 3rd rate series on Lifetime more than the funny, heartwarming, and vulgar humor type of film it wants to be.  And it’s terribly sad, because the cast of this film is amazing.  I like the cast of actors in this movie, but they were given a terrible script and nothing was executed to make me laugh or feel anything for its characters or story.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Way out of left field, but David Gordon Green will direct the remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 Horror opus ‘Suspiria’.  Green directed ‘Pineapple Express’, ‘The Sitter’, ‘Your Highness’, and several episodes of ‘Eastbound and Down’ for Showtime.  Casting is underway as they are looking for their Suzie,  the young protagonist who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a series of brutal murders, the young American student learns that the academy is a front for something way more sinister than education. The original had a surreal, psychedelic tone that involved the supernatural, witches and a whole lotta blood.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Oscar winner Ben Kinglsey (Schindler’s List/Gandhi) is final negotiations to take on Iron Man’s next villain in ‘Iron Man 3’.  A lot of fans of Iron Man were hoping to see that villain be the Mandarin, but insiders close to the film have hinted it won’t be the Mandarin.  All that I know is that when Kinglsey and Robert Downey Jr. share the screen, everything will be glittered with gold.

Hi, Bryan Here…

The day after soon-to-be valedictorian Henry Burke (Matt Bush) takes a hit of the chronic for the first time, his school principal (Michael Chiklis) institutes a zero tolerance drug policy and administers a mandatory drug test for all students. Henry has two options: fail and lose his college scholarship, or team up with his stoner friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) to beat the system. They steal a high powered ganja from law student-turned-drug-dealer Psycho Ed (Adrien Brody) and spike the school’s bake sale brownies, getting the whole school “faculty included” completely stoned out of their minds. But with the student body getting higher and higher with every brownie, and a pissed-off Psycho Ed on their tails for stealing his stash, they must find a way to keep their half-baked plan from going up in smoke.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Did the first script for season 5 of AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad’ get leaked?  By the look of things, it might have.  Either this is one of the best fan-fiction stories ever or this has to be the actual script.  It’s that good.  The good folks at ScreenCrush think its real, but who knows.  RedShark has the script.  But you can read it here as well.  It’s amazing.  Read at your own risk.  Major spoilers.  Your thoughts?

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Marvel announced today that the sequel to ‘Captain America’ will be released on April 4th, 2014.  This is an interesting move by Marvel since it will be airing in the spring rather than the summer when all the other big movies will be out.  Marvel hasn’t done this since 2004 with their ‘Punisher’ film.  But maybe with the success from ‘Hunger Games’ and ’21 Jump Street’.

Jimmy Smits Joins FX’s ‘Sons Of Anarchy’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Jimmy Smits is jumping sides here and is set to appear in the upcoming fifth season of FX’s  ‘Sons of Anarchy’ in a major season long story arc.  Smits will play Neron “Nero” Padilla, a Latino gang-banger with an exit strategy who becomes a dangerous mentor for Jax (Charlie Hunnam).  Smits has played bad guys before, so he is no slouch to playing villains.  I think he will add a lot to the show and is cast perfectly.

Let’s just say it and admit all at once.  Liam Neeson is the ultimate badass.  He battles sith lords, leads the A-Team, takes on a murderous pack of wolves, saves a bunch of Jews, tries to kill Batman, and is the almighty Zeus.  There is nothing this guy can’t do.  Liam is currently in talks to star in ‘Non-Stop’, a film for Warner Bros. about an exhausted air marshal who kicks it into high gear when a serious threat goes down high up in the air in the middle of an international flight according to Variety.

BRIDGE – Chapter Sixteen

by Justin Cline on Apr 4th, 2012

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The possibility existed that Mullet knew nothing of the symbiotic relationship between Bridge and Spade.  He may have had no clue that, without the cat, the man he was facing off against was little more than just that—a man—, and the kick signified only a deep-seated hatred of cats.  Whatever the case, from here on out, Bridge was on his own. Hi, Bryan Here….

I’m the first to say that I am NOT  a fan of ‘Family Guy’ or ‘American Dad’, but this Seth MacFarlane project starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and a part of Seth MacFarlane looks fucking GREAT!  The film is called ‘Ted‘ and follows John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.  The results are astounding.  Plus the teddy bear sounds a lot like Peter Griffin.

So here is Colin Farrell in the remake of ‘Total Recall‘ directed by Len Wiseman.  While some of you might be all over this, I’m keeping my distance.  First off, Len Wiseman has yet to impress anyone as a director.  He was responsible for ‘Live Free or Die Hard’ and ‘Underworld: Evolution’.  While I quite enjoy Colin Farrell and think he would do great in the film, this trailer just falls flat and looks just like every piece of shit PG-13 action film of the last couple years.
