Hi, Bryan Here….

The third volume of these Fur Flying Adventures are here and they are quite a bit of fun to watch, just like the previous two volumes.  These cartoons still hold up and despite no extras and this not being on bluray, all still seems to be right in the world when there is Tom and Jerry on the screen.  Am I right?

So, There’s Going to be A ‘Top Gun’ Sequel!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I really don’t understand why they would want to remake ‘Top Gun’.  In my opinion, ‘Top Gun’ is the most overrated film in cinema history.  It’s one of the most boring films I have seen and not to mention it hold’s the gold medal for most homo-erotic film ever made.  Well according to HWR, Peter Craig, who wrote ‘The Town’ has been hired to write the sequel for ‘Top Gun’ for Paramount.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Finally, Indiana Jones is coming to bluray.  Looks like the Fall of 2012 will be the time area of the release and even Amazon has a pre-order link right now of $74.99.  I bet the price will go down even more by then.  Now technical details or extras have been announced yet, but hopefully we will get what was on the DVD version plus more.  And for FUCK’S sake, I hope Lucas doesn’t change anything with these.  Paramount released the following info today.

Hi, Bryan Here…

A bit of sad news. Davy Jones, lead singer of The Monkees has died of a heart attack in Florida this Wednesday morning.   Jones, 66, leaves behind his wife, Jessica, and four daughters from past marriages.  Davy is knwon for his band ‘The Monkees’ with hits like ‘Daydream Believer’, and I’m a Believer.  They had their own show and were well loved around the world.    Sad day.

The New ‘Avengers’ Trailer Kicks So Much Ass!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

Here is a 2 1/2 minute NEW trailer for ‘The Avengers’.  Being into comics from when I was a little kid to owning a comic book store, this is something I have been looking forward to for a few decades now.  And now it is almost here.  Not to mention Joss “man-god” Whedon is directing it.  This looks all sort of awesome and I’m sure it will knock each and everyone  of us out of our seats.  Enjoy!

BRIDGE – Chapter Eleven

by Justin Cline on Feb 29th, 2012

CHAPTER ELEVEN

The news destroyed all sense of perspective.  In what world could the murder of one of his clients intersect with the assassination of a sitting president some fifty years earlier?  It seemed impossible that the same weapon could have been used on both victims.  And yet, according to the cook, the proof was resting in Bridge’s palm. Bryan Reviews ‘Weeds’ Season 7 Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 28th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here we are with season 7 of ‘Weeds’ on bluray and it does not disappoint.  The video and audio are superb on this bluray with some pretty decent extras as well.  It’s good to see some old faces pop up and some new faces in this seventh season.  I’m curious as to where they are going with show after this season, but I’m sure they won’t disappoint.  Season 7 of ‘Weeds’ is a must get if you are a fan of the show.

Bryan Reviews ‘Nurse Jackie’ Season 3 Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 28th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The 3rd season of Showtime’s ‘Nurse Jackie’ is here.  And starting in April, the 4th season will start.  I can’t believe it’s been 3-4 years that this show has been on.  Kudos to ‘Nurse Jackie’.  This bluray is top notch.  Showtime really struck gold with Edie Falco as Jackie. She is tremendous in this role.  Even better than her Sopranos role.  This disc has some good extras, and a really fantastic audio/video presentation.  If you are a fan of the show, you know you are already picking this up.

Hi, Bryan Here…

So in an effort to ramp up their animation devision, Paramount will be releasing a ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ film at the end of 2014.  Maybe the Mayans will be right and we won’t make it to 2014.  And who knows, maybe David Hasselhoff  won’t either.  Viacom president and CEO Philippe Dauman said “We will be releasing a SpongeBob movie at the end of 2014, which will serve to start off or be one of our films that starts off our new animation effort.”

Bryan Reviews Woody Allen’s ‘Manhattan’ Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 28th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Woody Allen’s ‘Manhattan’ is one hell of a fine movie, no matter what Woody Allen says.  The video and audio make this the best the film has ever looked since the theatres. This film has some of the most iconic shots in any Woody Allen film and for that fact , any film made.  The whole film is just one beautiful shot after another.  Frame worthy.  While there are no extras besides a theatrical trailer, this is still one bluray worthy of owning.

Bryan Reviews ‘Annie Hall’ Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 28th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Annie Hall’ is finally on blu-ray and that is good news folks.  But at least for me, it’s bittersweet good news.  Sadly, like most or all Woody Allen dvd’s or blu-rays, this does not have any extras besides the trailer.  Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a commentary by Allen on ‘Annie Hall’?  But, with that said, this is the best the film has looked and should be in everyone’s collection.  ‘Annie Hall’ is a comedic masterpiece of love, loss, and wit.  One of the best films of all time.

New Line has begun negotiations with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm a ‘Vacation’ reboot.  Daley and Goldstein wrote the script back in 2009 and it plays both like a sequel and a reboot according to HWR.  This new adventure will center around Rusty Griswold (the son of the Chevy Chase character) who is now all grown up and has a family of his own.  They set out on their own family vacation and encounter some of the same disasters that we all have come to love.

James Spader Will Exit ‘The Office’!!!

That’s right, James Spader will leave ‘The Office’ after this season.  He originally only wanted a one season arc and only wanted to be in fifteen of the episodes for one season.  Studio execs granted his wishes.  “James always wanted this to be a one-year arc, and he now leaves us having created one of the most enigmatic and dynamic characters in television,” said “Office” executive producer Paul Lieberstein. “He’s been a great friend to me and the show, helping us successfully transition into the post-Michael Scott years, and I’m grateful for that.”

A. Sanders Here….

The Episode:

This week’s episode revolved around the rescue of the men captured in the mines during Naevia’s rescue. Unbeknownst to Spartacus,  a gladiator whom once graced the sands of the area and fought his way to freedom, has been summoned to make an example of Crixus and the others. A seemingly hopeless rescue made more difficult by the presence of a freed brother of the sands and the secrets of the past he holds.  Side notes of the episode held more scheming and plotting from Illithyia and Glaber’s frustration at not being able to apprehend Spartacus.

Here is Bryan’s Review of ‘Act of Valor’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I’ll come right out and say it.  I enjoyed the hell out of ‘Act of Valor’.  It was intense, thrilling, and a lot of fun.  That being said, it has its flaws.  ‘Act of Valor’ separates itself from other action and military films by having real navy seals play themselves rather than have actors portray navy seals.  The result is bittersweet.

FedMex Reviews ‘Act of Valor’!!!

FedMex Here….

‘Act of Valor’ is advertised as a war movie unlike any other, a movie that creates an unprecedented realism due to the fact that it stars real Navy Seals.  Unfortunately, although it did create some awesome battle sequences which were probably some of the most realistic and tactically accurate battle sequences in a military film, it completely lacked the sense of realism that it hoped to showcase.

Eliza Dushku Q&A at the Sci-Fi Expo 2012!!!

Minecraft Legos on the horizon!

by JonnyBrokenBones on Feb 16th, 2012

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long at all for Lego to adapt its toys to imitate Minecraft. Just over two weeks after Lego approved the Minecraft project, Markus “Notch” Persson has gotten hold of a set, tweeting a couple of exciting pictures of blocky Creeper components and plastic landscapes.

The Lego Cuusoo blog, meanwhile, has more “official” pictures of the adorably compact building set, which you can peruse in our gallery. The Lego Minecraft Micro World set is available for pre-order exclusively through J!NX with a release due this summer — after which point, you’ll be able to buy it through Lego’s own store. If it’s not 100% sold out (which it will be).

I had the opportunity to speak briefly with the legendary Bernie Wrightson at Sci-Fi Expo 2012.  Wrightson is truly a master of his craft.  His line work is incredible and proof is in the pages including his work for Creepy, Heavy Metal, being co-creator/artist of Swamp Thing, and his more recent work with writer Steve Niles including “The Ghoul”, “Dead, She Said”, and Doc Macabre.  The three works with Steve Niles can all be found in separate color volumes or altogether in one beautiful over-sized black and white hardcover which really shows Wrightson’s amazing pencil and inking skills.  I asked Wrightson how he met Steve Niles to create this long-lasting creator relationship and he said that he in fact met Niles at a convention in Dallas!

Jonathan Liebesman (Battle L.A./Wrath of the Titans) is set to direct a reboot in live action form of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ for Paramount. I’m seriously, people in Hollywood fail upwards.  Liebesman started with ‘Darkness Falls’ then went on to ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning’, then to ‘Battle L.A., and then onto the upcoming sequel to ‘Clash of the Titans’.  How does someone like that get more work?

Hi Bryan Here….

The Season Finale of HBO’s ‘Luck’ airs at the end of March, but don’t fret, for HBO has already renewed ‘Luck’ for a second season due to very high ratings.  It’s great to see Dustin Hoffman on HBO.  I think his character Ace, is brilliant.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see him nominated for some awards in upcoming future awards shows.

Hi Bryan Here…

We at Boomstick had the pleasure of talking with several artists and writers during our coverage of Sci-Fi Expo 2012.  Among some of them were Robert Wilson IV of ‘Knuckleheads’ fame and who does some pretty incredible movie poster art.  We also talked with artist Jamie Tyndall who you might recognize from Grimm.  We got the scoop on some of their projects as well as some upcoming projects they might have in store.

Hi Bryan Here….

So following Guillermo’s work on ‘Pacific Rim’, he is in line to direct a re-imagining of ‘Beauty and the Beast’.  And Emma Watson (Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films) is in final talks to star.  In my eyes, Guillermo can do no wrong.  He is amazing.  How awesome will it be to see this done by the same guy who did ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and ‘Hellboy’?

‘The Walking Dead’ Mid Season Opener Broke Records!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 14th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

I’m so proud of ‘The Walking Dead’.  I was just discussing the other night with friends, that back in 2008, while we were deep into reading ‘Walking Dead’ comics, that we fantasized about a ‘Walking Dead’ series.  And back then we thought that it would never become a reality.  Why would it?  Do people unlike our geek and nerd selves love zombie stories? Are there people out there that have constructed a full on zombie survival handbook on their own?  Well, going by the record viewers for this mid season 2 opener, that answer would be YES.

Hi Bryan Here….

You know what’s awful?  Writing two stories back to back about Michael Bay.  But I guess, he is unstoppable right now.  In addition to the 4th ‘Transformers’ film, Michael Bay will be directing ‘Pain and Gain’.  Yeah you read that right.  What a shitty title.  The film will star Marky Mark of the Funky Bunch and the People’s Champ, Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

Hi Bryan Here…

This trailer is AWESOME!!!  One of the better ones in a while.  President Lincoln’s mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers.  This looks great and is one of the top films on my list for this year.  Enjoy.

The Bishop Charlotte Reporting….

Having not seen Volumes 1 and 2, I considered that I might be a bit confused coming into the plot. However, a review like this can be done by a fangirl like me due to an extensive knowledge of comic book characters and situations. I marched right into Episode 14 of this series without breaking a sweat, and was mildly disappointed to learn that I am not special here – anyone could do it.

Reason # 1042 Why George Lucas Is A Boob!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…..

It might be to hype up the 3D release of one of the worst films ever made, or may be the anger of an old man finally getting back at his fans.  But I’d like to think once upon a time, George Lucas liked making movies.  Sadly that hasn’t been the case in over 20 years.  Lucas recently said he was done with making big blockbuster movies.  He said, “Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”  Now he has gone the way of the internet in trying to get a rise out of his most rabid of fans.

Bryan Reviews ‘The Double’ Bluray!!! (A Bluray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 10th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

I vaguely remember this movie being released.  I seem to recall seeing a trailer for it somewhere, but was never sure.  Come to find out, this was a little indie film that was released in less than 50 theaters and did not do well.  ‘The Double’, starring Richard Gere and Topher Grace has some good ideas, but ultimately does not stick the landing.  However for what the film itself lacks, it makes up in its audio and video presentation, which is pretty outstanding.  I had hoped for better things from this movie, but it just never crashes that barrier into being any good.

FedMex Reviews ‘The Vow’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 9th, 2012

FedMex Here….

The Vow:

Channing Tatum loves Rachel McAdams.  Rachel McAdams has brain injury and forgets who Channing Tatum is.  Channing Tatum wants Rachel McAdams to remember him and be in love with him again.  That’s the plot.First and foremost, I would normally not watch a movie like this unless a girl made me do it.  In this case, the girl that normally makes me watch movies like this didn’t even want to watch this movie.  My expectations were sufficiently low walking into “The Vow,” but what can I say?  I guess I’m a sucker, because I actually found some redeeming qualities to this cute dromantimedy ™.

Morgan Freeman and Tom Cruise will be starring alongside in ‘Oblivion’.  Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy), ‘Oblivion’ follows Cruise who is  the last man on a post-apocalyptic and nearly uninhabitable Earth, who stays behind to repair ships that hunt down and blast a virulent alien species.  And Freeman will play a vital part of the film, but that role is known at this time.

Check Out the Trailer for ‘The Bourne Legacy’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 9th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…

This trailer looks good.  Sorry no Matt Damon, but Jeremy Renner looks like he has taken the Bourne role nicely.  “The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.”  Enjoy the trailer.

Hi Bryan Here….

Now most of you know I am a HUGE fan of Kubrick’ work.  Anything related to the director, I want to read, watch, and cherish.  There was a documentary that premiered at Sundance recently entitled ‘Room 237’.  It is a documentary on the Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ movie.  Not the one made by his daughter that is shown on the DVD, but rather a different type of documentary that explores the insane conspiracy theories and subtext of the “real meaning” of ‘The Shining’.

Good news everyone.  Billy Connolly has joined the cast in the role of Dain Ironfoot, a great dwarf warrior and cousin of Thorin Oakenshield.  Such good news.  Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh took a hiatus from ‘The Hobbit’ to introduce the ‘West Memphis Three’ documentary at Sundance, since they funded quote a bit of the DNA testing for the freedom of the three guys. Hi Bryan Here….

HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ is easily one of the most brilliant and engaging series to air in the past decade.  It is full of colorful characters, gripping story lines, and tons of violence and sex.  And all of the series is based on actual people and events from the roaring 20’s in Atlantic City.  You can tell that everyone involved with the series has a passion and love for the show.  This bluray release is incredible.  The video and audio are top notch while the extras are a lot of fun for any fan of the show.  This gets my highest recommendation.  So let’s have a glass of scotch and be secret about it.

Hi Bryan Here….

That’s right!  The company that brought you Final Fantasy has just announced a new game called ‘Sleeping Dogs’ which is part of the True Crime series, and is a hardcore cop drama that has the open world scenario.  Kinda like the Grand Theft Auto series does.  The game will be set in Hong Kong, and vows to have “intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat”.  I don’t know, but this sounds like Square Enix’s answer to the Grand Theft Auto series.  And by the sounds of it, it promises to have a pretty good combat section.

Luis Bunuel’s ‘Belle de Jour’ is a fantastic sensual odyssey that I enjoyed immensely.  Catherine Deneuve is just radiant and amazing in the lead role.  Criterion really rolled out the red carpet with this release.  The video and audio presentations are fantastic and the extras are very good.  If you are a fan of the beautiful Catherine Deneuve and or an intense tale of sexual fantasy and fetish, then this movie is for you.  I just love this movie and it will make a great addition to your criterion section.
