Hi Bryan Here….

Well the 2nd part of Season 2 of ‘The Walking Dead’ is upon us.  Particularly February 12th on AMC.  The episode is called “Nebraska” and it looks like the first episode will pick up right where the last one left off.  I really enjoyed the first part of the 2nd season, but I really think that this 2nd part will be the meat and potatoes of the 2nd season.  Looking forward to this.

Hi Bryan Here….

One of our favorite shows here at Boomstick to write about is ‘Arrested Development’.  So over the past year or so we have heard so many stories on a new season or a feature film.  Then a little while back, Netflix made a deal to air a completely new season of ‘Arrested Development’.  Not much has been said or really known about the series.   Still to this day, there is not much known about it, but co-exec producer Dean Lorey let a few details slip out today.  All good news.

Hi Bryan Here…

PlayStation has confirmed the mulitplayer demo for ‘Twisted Metal’ hitting PSN next week, on January 31st.   You will have to use the PSN Pass to play.  I used to play Twisted Metal quite a bit back in the 90’s.  I’m glad to see it coming back again.  Weird timing though.  I would of thought that they would have waited until the PS4’s release.  I know that is at least a year off, but that would be a huge launch title.

Julian Assange Guests on ‘The Simpsons’ as Himself!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

Wiki Leaks founder Julian Assange has a gust spot on ‘The Simpsons’ coming up on February 19th.  This  also marks ‘The Simpsons’ 500th episode.  In the episode,  Marge and Homer go off the grid and find themselves living next door to Assange. “He invites them over for a home movie and it’s an Afghan wedding being bombed,” says producer Al Jean. “There’s nothing we did that has anything to do with the legal situation that he’s in,” Jean says. “We wanted to make sure it was satirical, and he was willing to do that.”

Shirley MacLaine Joins Cast of ‘Downton Abbey’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…

More good news for PBS’s ‘Downton Abbey’.  Not only did ‘Downton Abbey’ win best miniseries at the Golden Globes this year, but now famed actress Shirley MacLaine will join the cast in the third season and will play American-born mother of Elizabeth McGovern’s character Lady Grantham.  “My late grandfather directed Shirley MacLaine in Gambit in 1966,” said Downton Abbey executive producer Gareth Neame, “so it is a delight for me that she will be joining us on Downton Abbey.”

Watch the Entire Ferris Bueller Super Bowl Commercial!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

Well, last week, we posted a strange video that popped up that was a 10 second commercial that featured Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller once again.  And the end title was the date for the Super Bowl.  Soon after we posted the video, we got word that it was a promo spot for the new Honda CR-V.  The promo will be featured on Super Bowl Sunday.  While this is not the coolest news ever, it certainly is a great move in the marketing department for Honda.  I wonder if any other promo spots will feature other films?  Can you imagine a Breakfast Club commercial?

Is Ferris Bueller Coming Back for the Super Bowl???

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 26th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

Not sure what this is about, but it is all sorts of AWESOME.  What we have here is Matthew Broderick seemingly portraying his Ferris Bueller character years later.  All it says is 2/5/12 which is the superbowl.  If Ferris Bueller has something to do with this, then all is right in the world.  Can’t wait to find out.

Thanks to Martinez who said “it made me giggle like a schoolgirl”.

‘Hangover 3’ Set to Begin Filming Very Soon!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 26th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

Well negotiations are just about done to get filming started on the third ‘Hangover’ movie.  This has been going on for a few months due to the big salary demands for the three actors; Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Bradley Cooper.  Supposedly they are asking for $15 million each plus backend money.  As the dealings are just about wrapped up, they are most likely going to receive what they are asking.

Hi Bryan Here…

Twenty five years later, ‘Good Morning Vietnam’ still holds up as one  the best films about Vietnam and most certainly one of the top Robin Williams films of all time.  I can’t believe it has been twenty five years.  I actually remember seeing this in theatre with my parents and just loving Robin Williams’ based on real life person Adrian Cronauer.  Over the next couple of years I memorized all of Cronauer’s radio monologues and performed them in front of people at a young age.  I can still recite them to this day.  Needless to say, ‘Good Morning Vietnam’  holds a special place in my heart.  And this 25th anniversary bluray is a hit.  Some great extras, and great HD presentations in video and audio.  This is definitely worth picking up.

Bryan Reviews ‘Gia’ Bluray!!! (A Bluray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 24th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…..

I can’t believe ‘Gia’ is almost 15 years old.  Angelina Jolie plays to perfection real life Gia Carangi, a girl next door type who works at her family’s diner and then virtually over night is whisked away to become an international super model.  The movie is very solid, due to Jolie’s performance.  This is a story you have heard many times sadly, and HBO brings us this true story in high def.  Jolie’s performance definitely carries this movie.

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Cannonball Run’ is most certainly an acquired taste.  Much like a fine scotch.  It’s not for everyone.  If you’re a fan of those late 70’s early 80’s silly goofball comedies, than ‘Cannonball Run’  is the movie for you.  However, if you aren’t, then this movie will be like nails on a chalkboard.  I will say that it has an amazing cast with the likes of; Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, Dom Deluise, Roger Moore, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Chan, Adrienne Barbeau, and Jamie Farr to name a few.  This i movie is a lot of fun if you’re into this sort of thing, and my guess is that like myself, you have seen this over a dozen times.  ‘Cannonball Run’  is a zany film to have fun with.

Hi Bryan Here….

‘Dead Poets Society’ is a modern classic.  I loved this film when I saw it back in the late 80’s and I still love it today.  Robin Williams leads an all-star cast….well back then they were mostly unknowns, but today, they are A-List actors, in one of the best coming of age films and one of the best films that takes place at a boarding school. The extras on this disc are great and new HD transfers are really good.  I loved seeing this on bluray it all its 1080p glory.  Definitely worth picking up.

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Infernal Affairs’ is amazing.  This was the original ‘Departed’ film that Scorsese made.  ‘Infernal Affairs’ was made in 2002 with ‘The Departed’  being made in 2006.  Scorsese must have seen this movie when it came out and quickly wanted to make an American version.  And that’s exactly what he did.  ‘Infernal Affairs’ is exactly what ‘The Departed is, but made in Hong Kong.  It has a lot of the same scenes, characters, and plot lines.  And this bluray release is quite good.  If you are a fan of ‘The Departed’, then ‘Infernal Affairs’ is a film you will love.

Hi Bryan Here…..

The 84th annual Academy Award nominations are in.  There are a couple of surprises that I was very happy to see on here and tons of disappointment.  It looks like the Academy went with 9 Best Picture noms this year rather than 10.  They also only went with 3 noms for make up which I can think of others, and only two for original song.  Was this a time issue, so that the event would be over on time for once rather than have all 5 songs being sung?  I don’t like it, but that’s how it is this year.  Below you will see each category with my thoughts.  Enjoy.

I had so much fun with Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’.  It’s packed with thrills, gun fights, drama, great chase sequences, and some of the best fight choreography I have seen in a long time.  Much like most of Soderbergh’s films, ‘Haywire’ packs a stellar cast including retired MMA fighter and Dallas native Gina Carano (who is our main character).  After watching ‘Haywire’, I quickly wanted more.  There needs to be a sequel pronto and I say this with the upmost certainty; ‘Haywire’ is the new ‘Bourne’ and Carano can take on Matt Damon anytime.

FedMex Reviews Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’!!!

So, Steven Soderbergh brings us a slightly convoluted film about a former Marine working for a private company that is hired by the CIA to do secret missions who is betrayed by people and revenge ensues.  Soderbergh is no stranger to the gritty crime drama, and this film hits the nail on the head…mostly, but misses the mark enough to leave me just slightly torn about my feelings for it.

Production on the sequel resumed recently in Montreal after a two-month break due to money issues.  Katee is just awesome in everything she does.  I can totally see her carrying this movie.  She is that awesome.  Hopefully this highly anticipated sequel gets on the right track and comes out soon.  Your thoughts?

Tim Burton is in talks to direct a live-action version of ‘Pinocchio’ movie which is currently being scripted by ‘Pushing Daisies’ creator, Bryan Fuller.  Warner Bros. is courting Robert Downey Jr. to star as Geppetto as well.  This is no surprise as Burton’s last film, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ was his biggest box office success.  Now it seems on the big screen as well as on television, there is an abundance of fantasy/fairy tale films in the works.  Heck there is a few Snow White films coming out and a few Pinocchio films coming out, and not too mention the many more fantasy/fairy tale films that have been slated for this year already.

IFC has picked up two new scripted comedy series, ‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’ and ‘Bunk’. Both have received orders for 10 episodes to premiere back-to-back in June as a one-hour original comedy block.  From my guess, with the somewhat success of ‘Portlandia’, IFC is getting more into the original programming.  But by the sounds of these two new series, I don’t see them lasting very long.

Evil Dead 2.  Possibly one of the greatest films ever made.  It has a 98% Fresh rating on rotten tomatoes.  This sequel to the Sam Raimi horror gore fest, is pretty much a re-telling of the first film with a bigger budget and an added humor in the vein of Three Stooges.  This humor and horror mix nicely to bring you one of the best thrill rides of your life.  And let me just say, it seems that they went back to the original negatice of the film and cleaned it all up for this release.  It looks AMAZING.  The best it has ever looked.  This gets my highest recommendation.  Get it.

Hi Bryan Here!!!!

“One for each other and all for one.  The three brave amigos are we.”  I was so excited that this finally came out on bluray.  I loved this John Landis film growing up.  I still quote this movie to this day.  That trio of great comedic actors of Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short has never been rivaled to this day in my opinion.  This movie was an instant classic.  Tons of songs, shootouts, and tons of great comedy pack this film with enough laughs to last a lifetime.  You know you are doing the Amigo salute right now.  Admit it.

Classic Waxxx: Jimmy Reed “At Soul City”

by NapkinArt on Jan 5th, 2012

With the start of a new year at Classic Waxxx HQ there are large stacks of incredible vinyl to sort through that was obtained over the holidays. Rock n’ Roll, Jazz, Country, Bluegrass and the like all wait to be played and shared. It’s such a treat to discover new music by groups loved and practically unknown, and with another year come and gone it means there is just more music out there that needs some attention.

It was a difficult decision to pick the new year’s first record review, but Jimmy Reed’s “At Soul City” LP snuck in from left field for several reasons. First of all, I love blues records. Maybe more than most other records in the CW collection. I also love live recordings, and especially live blues records. But, I do have a little bone to pick with Vee-Jay Records for their release of “At Soul City.” Read the rest of this entry »

I was thoroughly surprised with this movie.  It was really good.  I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did.  The acting was superb all around.  Oscar worthy even.  The writing, story line, and direction was all done to a tee.  Director Tate Taylor did a wonderful job at adapting the book to screenplay form and into a wonderful film.  The video and sound quality on this bluray are top notch which make ‘The Help’ a truly great release.  I definitely recommend this film.

‘Farscape’ fans can rejoice.  Almost seven years ago, ‘Farscape’ executive producer, Rockne S. Another Year, Another Paranormal Activity Movie!!!
