After eight years of hosting ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel is about to face the world in a slightly more historical position: he will host the next White House Correspondent’s Dinner.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is an annual event that allows government bigwigs and the media corps to rub elbows for an evening. The President and First Lady are traditionally in attendance, along with whoever else can afford to go. A participant must be a member of the White House Correspondent’s Association to be eligible for purchasing tickets. Proceeds go towards grants and scholarships that support aspiring journalists.

The dinner usually has a comedian host, and Kimmel will fulfill the post on April 28th, 2012. Past hosts have been Seth Meyers (Saturday Night Live), Jay Leno (The Tonight Show), and Wanda Sykes (Curb Your Enthusiasm).

“I look forward to being a part of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. I love dinner,” Kimmel has been reported to say. We do too, Jimmy. We do too, you lucky son of a gun.
